April 2018 Recap - What's New With You Link Up

Hello all, time for another what's new with you link up! Tomorrow is Oaks here in the 'ville and I am taking the day off for no real reason except why not. Fridays are my busiest day at work and because today is basically my Friday, I'll be a busy bee so I might not get to everyone's links but I will try. If not, I'll pop in tomorrow. Thanks again if you join me, I always appreciate it.

March used to be the month where we started doing things with the outside world again, but I felt like April was that this time. But as always, writing it out never seems like much!

With the weather improving, KC and I have gone on a couple of walks and Chelsea and I have been hanging on our little porch concrete square thing.

We went out of town - near St Louis - to attend a family wedding. It was a ridiculous amount of fun. As always, after hanging out with that side we say to each other 'we really need to visit them more!' and thankfully we have another visit in June planned so we will be seeing them again soon. Except I will never go to a bar in Missouri again - ugh, there was smoking inside you guys. It was awful. Awful. And yes, we went to a bar after a wedding.

Then there was the KY Derby mini - I was hemming and hawing about signing up, but I did, I'm glad I did because I like the tradition of it, I think I've missed one since I moved here. Honestly, I probably should not have signed up because I was a little deluded thinking I'd been running regularly and it was a bit of a shit show after mile 9. I ended up run walking the last 4 and deserting my friend, but I didn't die, so at least there's that. I could barely walk the next day though, zero exaggeration. I was in so much pain. That's not normal for me and just goes to show how much I've been slacking on my running.

Then there was book club, a few gym visits (May is already looking better in that department, high five self), some house projects I took no photos of, the return of the caprese panini at Jason's, spilled tea I might have cried over and a free lunch at work.

Oh, and I hung out in my sunroom on the last day of April - It is the opposite of pretty or done right now, but I don't care. I have big plans for that room and can't wait for it to get hotter so I can hang out there more. The cats loved it too but I highly doubt they will enjoy it as the weather creeps up - except maybe Millie, she loves being with me even if she hates being in my lap or affection of any kind.

If you'd like to link up, please do so below.

So, that's what's new with me, or rather, what I did in April. What's new with you?

  1. I think it sounds like you did a lot.

Spilled tea is definitely something to cry over!

  2. Smoking inside?? Noooo. Isn't that illegal? Not sure of laws in the US... but since the smoking ban in the UK/Aus I've become so sensitive to the smell of smoke, I absolutely can't stand to be around it anymore. The outside area near the office I work in at the moment is semi enclosed by tall buildings, and everyone goes there for their smoking break, and there isn't quite enough fresh air to make the smell go away. Eurgh.

Well done on the run! You finished, that's the main thing. I'm busy doing as much as I can before more visitors come, and enjoying the verrrry last of the warm weather. Back up to 26 today!

  3. Glad you made it through the mini and yay for more gym workouts in May already!! Looks like you had some great things this month, reading room for the win!!

  4. Congratulations on the mini! I completed it, too, and beat my PR from 2009 by 16 minutes. Enjoy your day off tomorrow! Happy Derby to you!

    1. PS. You're not the only one who hit the wall around mile 9. Two of my friends, one who ran and one who walked, said the same thing. One said the tunnels at Churchill broke her rhythm and she was never able to really get it back after that. I hit my wall around mile 10.

  5. So much going on. Congrats on the race, but sorry about the pain, that is no buenos. I am all about a free lunch at work!

  6. Congrats on the half - I always feel like I can't walk the next day!! I'm really happy you are getting so much outside time - I feel like it's just good for the soul!

  7. Way to go on the half marathon! I have never done one and I'm not sure if I ever want to. Haha. I am slowly getting back to running again after slacking all winter but I'm also trying to decide if there's something else I like doing more...like kickboxing and strength training...just gotta do SOMETHING. haha.
THe wedding looks like so much fun!! Have an awesome Thursday off and happy Derby weekend!!

PS - super envious of your sunroom! It looks so cozy!

  8. Oh my word shit show AFTER mile 9? I haven’t ran over three miles in like.... well years. I should probably get on that. I think that every week Friday’s should be days off. Three day weekends are my jam! Enjoy yours!!

  9. The wedding looks great! Look at you youths going out after.

I am all for hanging out in unfinished spaces. We need to rest sometimes and we can't do all the things at once.

  10. All the high fives on the mini! There was smoking inside somewhere?? What??? It's 2018. Ew! I used to live in the St Louis area a long time ago. I am sure it has changed a lot since then. Sunrooms are so fun, I am sure you will have yours looking awesome in no time :)

  11. Looks like April was a good month for you! Proud of you for still doing the run, even if it was hard! I bet you still felt good afterward (minus the whole dying thing, lol). Family weddings are the best, it’s fun that you’re already headed back for another visit.

  12. 1. Teh German mentioned something about going out after our wedding, per the German tradition of staying up all night long to party. We didn't because we were exhausted, thank god.
    2. Smoking in bars is gross. It's a thing here in SC too. The worst thing.
    3. MIKE WAZOWSKI!!!
    4. I had another friend run the Mini-Marathon! I told her that I'd sign up to run next year if I could also get into the Bourbon trail race as well so I could get an extra medal. That medal is super awesome!

  13. When I first moved to Texas & people were smoking in bars I was like "wait what?!" because MN had outlawed it like 4 or 5 years earlier. Now most bars don't allow it here but it's not illegal.

  14. Ooh fun sunroom! Hopefully one of your cats will hang out with you. :)
Good job on doing the run, but I'm sorry you were in so much pain after. I'm trying to get to the gym a couple times a week so we'll see how May goes. LOL I do dance one day a week too so that's three days of doing something - which is a lot for me, since I'm not that physically active and I need to get better.
Oh gosh, I hate smoking inside of places! It's so gross. And some people are allergic, so I don't get why it's not illegal everywhere at this point.

  15. OMG - the expression on Chelsea's face in the sin with you. Priceless! I didn't realize you could smoke inside any business in the US. Not cool! I'm so not use to cigarette smoke that I get irritated when I'm walking behind someone smoking!

  16. Love the sunroom! Good job on the half, though I'm sorry you were in so much pain the next day. Yay for wedding fun!

  17. Way to go on running the Derby mini! Even with training I know that I’d have a hard time running 9 miles! And oh my goodness I just spilled coffee all over me yesterday and it was the most depressing thing ever! I wanted to cry because it was such a good cup! I hope you’re enjoying your Friday!

  18. You are just too beautiful! I love those wedding pics!
We seem to always end up at a bar or party pre- or post-weddings, too. And we're NOT party people. I think we just get energized with the right crowd. Hahaha!
Sounds like it was a good month! Can't wait to see future pictures from your sunroom haven in the future this summer!

  19. I think it’s great you ran the marathon again. Kudos to you. Can’t believe our weather lately, I’m glad it’s finally warm! I took off tomorrow too. Cheers, friend!

  20. Your sunroom looks like the perfect spot for reading :)

  21. You've been busy! Seems like it was a fun month :) and ewww smoking allowed indoors??

  22. Cheers to a spot to read. I hope it doesn't get too hot in there this summer...don't cats love heat???

I would cry over the tea too. I spilled tea on computer log-in cards at school and now the kids remind of me of it every time I pass the cards out to them.

  23. I keep missing this linkup!! :( :( Maybe in June. It's dumb to say, but I really can't believe that it's almost JUNE. JUNE! Oy. I'm glad that you guys are enjoying the weather, patio, and little sun room. We had a patio once at our apartment and we rarely used it! ha. Hopefully someday we'll have a yard, or a patio... or whatever. LOL. We took Duchess and Scal on a "walk" Duchess loved it and then hid under a table that had a bunch of dead leaves from fall under it. LOL. Scali was less scared so that's a thing. The wedding sounds super fun! I am SO CONFUSED by the smoking thing, because in Kansas City (Missouri) it is NOT ALLOWED. You cannot smoke inside in bars!! So maybe it was the specific town? Was it in STL? That's SO ODD.... Ew!! That sucks! So excited for SUYB next week! XO - Alexandra

  24. That must be a local thing because all the bars around me smoking is banned! So that one must have different rules or that particular county or something like that. I know that if I would've walked in the one where they allowed smoking I would've turned right around because I cannot stand it.

That being said you guys look super adorable!

  25. You look gorgeous at the wedding! Sounds like you had a blast minus the smoky bar! Go you on running the marathon and getting in lots of outdoor fun and exercise! I hope you enjoyed your long weekend. Emily @ Martinis & Bikinis

Your sunroom looks like the perfect place to curl up with a book 😍

  27. You looked so beautiful at the wedding. I can't believe they still have smoking at a bar. I thought it was banned everywhere. Your sun room is awesome!!

  28. Oh man! I hate it when you are in a state that allows smoking in bars. I loved it when Illinois and Wisconsin changed that law. It made it so much nicer! You look gorgeous at the wedding. Looks like a fun time!

  29. Looks like a fun yet chill month! Kudos to you for finishing the race no matter what!
