TGIF #4

Happy Friday everyone!

Thankful - This is something I need to work on, sometimes I get so bogged down with what I don't have and I'm not thankful for the things I do have. I take for granted little things that really aren't so little. So I'm just going to thankful-brain-dump: thankful for my cats even though they like to wake us up, thankful for KC even though he somehow uses 12 dishes for one meal, thankful for work even though I am sad because I am losing some of my favourite coworkers, thankful for good customer service, thankful for music, thankful for chapstick, thankful for books even though I've read some duds lately, thankful for the sun even though it's been colder than I'd like lately, thankful for food even though I eat too much of it, thankful for the gym even though I don't workout hard enough lately, thankful for real life and internet friends, thankful for blankets, thankful for some great news we got yesterday, thankful for cups of tea and alcohol (though not together because that would be weird).

Thankful for new blinds, we've been meaning to replace the awful curtains the lady left behind but we've been doing it slowly and the kitchen just kept getting ignored. It's amazing how different it makes the entire room look. I don't have the best before photo, but I found one from during the renovation (which I am sure I will blog about in the next 10 years) because KC did it while I was at work one day. You get the idea.

Glad that today is the last day of spring break - yeah that may not be very nice of me but I really dislike when KC is off work. I mean, it's good because we get things done around the house or outside - though not so much this year because of the weather - but it throws off all the routines and I really don't like it. I like routines. So I'm glad he's going back to work next week, though I am not looking forward to him being off over summer. Talk about ruining routines. I really need to get over it and just deal with it, but why do that when I can complain instead. Kidding, kidding.

Ignoring the fact that I need to go swimsuit shopping - I want to, but I also don't want to. I wonder if I can just go back to wearing boardshorts and tank tops. I am using it as motivation to get to the gym, so maybe I should just get it over with. I'm thinking Target because it's easy and there - any other shops I should look at?

Favourite purchase - I mentioned this onion chopper back when I bought it last year, it broke a couple of weeks ago and I immediately purchased it again. It's $20, we use it at least twice a week, mainly for onions which we use a lot of, but sometimes other veggies like peppers. But mainly onions. It's definitely worth $20, I'm cranky it broke after 1 year but not cranky enough to not buy it again. I also realise it says lifetime warranty but I obviously didn't pursue that, just replaced it.

Anywho. That's all from me today. Nothing planned this weekend, thank goodness - last weekend we helped my mother in law move 2 hours away (2 hours in a u-haul on a very windy day, I don't recommend) and lifted lots of heavy things including a piano (did that one all by myself, lol jk as if) and have lots of bruises because I am not very smart when lifting heavy things. All that to say, very much looking forward to doing absolutely nothing.

So. Any miracle swimsuit shops I should know about? Perfect lighting? Full body spanx that looks like a bikini? Kidding, kidding. But not really.

  1. I love the new blinds! They look great. LOL my mom says the same thing about my dad when he's off in the winter.

  2. Yes, to being thankful even when it's hard. Your blinds look great! I wonder if that onion thing would work for tomatoes...when I worked at taco tico in HS they had a heavy duty one made of all metal that looked like that and I loved how it cut the tomatoes into small chunks. We have a pampered chef one but it doesn't have the grid, just slices. Hope you enjoy your not busy weekend!!

  3. Happy weekend to you! I wouldn’t like working if my husband was off either. Just wouldn’t work for me lol! Best of luck in the swim suit shopping!! You got this!

  5. The farther you get from the demo stage of a remodel, the less you ever want to look at pictures of it because it becomes super depressing.
That being said, new window treatments work wonders! (Uh, and so do new floors :)

JCPenney might have some decent swimsuit options? I've gone there in the last few years. Oh, and Old Navy.

  6. OMG, I totally understand about needing your husband to go to work. LOL. Our whole house functions best with structure and routines! Our Target is fully stocked with swimsuits so hopefully you'll find something there. But if you have time to order online, I've also had good luck with Venus and J Crew swimwear (though...you can't try that on in advance so it might be a hassle if you don't know your sizing).

  7. Ugh the dreaded swim suit shopping - I totally avoided it last year since I had the baby in May (and she couldn't be out in the sun those first few months), but this year I know we will want to take her to the pool...so I'm going to have to face it lol

And that onion chopper looks awesome! I am so bad at chopping them on my own and my slap chop is rather crappy haha xx

  9. The new blinds do make such a huge difference! For swimsuits, I either hit up Target, Old Navy, Gap or Aerie. I don’t think you can go wrong at any of those places. Glad you’re feeling thankful for all the little things. Happy Friday!

  10. I cant even begin to think about swimsuit shopping right now. Ugh! Why was I lazy all winter?? I am also terrible at not being thankful for the things I do have sometimes. I definitely need to focus on that right now. I have an onion chopper that is similar, but I hate to clean it so it never gets used. You have any easy cleaning tips?

  11. The new blinds look great and it is amazing how a simple switch can really change a room. I'm not always good with focusing on what I have either. It's something I'm trying to be better about as well. If you find that miracle swimsuit, please let me know. I need a new one too. I do like those little skirt bottoms, although I might try the short bottoms this time and see how they look. Have a great relaxing weekend and hopefully any book read this weekend is a good one! :D

  12. Love the brain-dump thankful list. Love the new blinds. Love your honesty about KC's time off (I'd be the SAME way).
Hope you have a great, slow, relaxing weekend!!

  13. Love your gratitude brain dump. :)
Also love the new curtains/blinds. :)
I too have to go shopping for swimsuits.. isn’t that the most enjoyable thing on earth?! Lol.
Hope you have a nice and relaxing weekend hun. Xo

  14. omg we have the 12 dish per meal problem at our house too and it drives me crazy! lol. The new blinds look great-- it's always amazing to me how something can make such a huge difference to a space. I'm zero help in the swimsuit department- I think I usually end up getting mine from Macy's or Nordstrom.

  15. Thank god one pieces are in style. I’m way too afraid to ever step foot in a bikini ever again, but if you find that spanx one let me know!

  16. My husband bought me that vegetable chopper last Christmas, and it's been awesome! I may never chop an onion by hand again, ha ha. I can totally see why you'd purchase it again.

  19. What a big transition from those old curtains to the new blinds! I'm sure it was a relief to get rid of those. Target has so many cute swimsuits this year, you could have a field day and for very reasonable prices too! Emily @ Martinis & Bikinis

  20. Eek I hate swimsuit shopping but I am actually kind of leaning towards a cute rash guard since I burn super easily and get in and out of the water a lot with the kids. I hope you find something you like! I can't stand it when my husband is home and I'm at work which is kind of unfair since I spend two days at home when he works...but yeah, routine works well for us too. Yay for good news!

  21. 1. I want an onion slicer! I always joke when slicing onions that Teh German should stop making me cry. I've also started using the food processor because I'm lazy.
1.5) Why does that onion in the cutter still have the crunchy skin on it. I do not understand.
    2. OMG those old curtains were heinous.
    3. I can tell a difference in Teh German's attitude when I don't get up at the same time as him.. like he's resentful that I'm getting to sleep in, so I try, even if I'm teleworking or something is different in my routine, to keep the same routine with him. And they say that thing about happy wife = happy life. /rolleyes
