February 2018 Recap - What's New With You Link Up

Good morning everyone! Time for another link up with Gretch & me, all we ask is that you link back somewhere in your post. Thanks a bunch. I'll be doing a monthly recap, and it was birthday month, yay!

What's New With You

Like I said, February was birthday month and I like to celebrate sporadically throughout the month and use it as an excuse to for all the things. 'It's birthday month! Buy the things! Eat the food! Lay around all day!'

But besides that, I actually had some proper celebrations too, all in one weekend:

Dinner & cocktails with my girlfriends:

^ one of my girlfriends brought me cadbury creme eggs #friendship

A cooking class date night I've always wanted to do, and I roped in a few of my coworkers and ended up going to a bar afterwards (don't think I've been to a bar in a couple of years!). Louisvillians, it's Cooking at the Cottage and was super fun. You can BYO and make it even more fun.

^ don't know if you can tell but they had normal chairs for very high tables, so when you sat down you felt like a little kid at a giant's table. It was a tad silly.

^ most of the people I work with are my age or older, and we have one youngen who we call... youngen. She randomly showed up to the bar for like 5 minutes, so we had to document it. Don't ask me why I'm standing like that because I have no idea.

Finally, we did a Board & Brush class! This was SO fun. I highly, highly recommend. I am definitely going to do another. You do all of it yourself, with their help of course. I felt super fancy and accomplished after I did it, not gonna lie. I got stain all over my hands, of course.

So yes, that was all in one weekend and let me just tell you, I have not consumed that much alcohol since I was like 22. It was insane and I'm good for like a year now. Nah just kidding. I like alcohol, and I like drinking to enjoy it, whereas when I was 22 I was drinking to get drunk. That's no fun the next day, and thankfully I was totally functional each day following a celebration, zero hangovers. Success.

Then the following weekend, my friends and I went to a masquerade thing at Louisville Palace, I've always wanted to go there - it's really pretty inside. It was like fancy dress but we were only there for a couple of hours and it's probably not something I would do again but I had fun with my friends.

Other things in February: cake and nothing bundt cake!

Pizza and meat pies - I have found several bakeries in the US that make and ship meat pies, I finally tried one. They are good and I will eat them all but likely won't get them from this specific place again. The pizza was my birthday dinner. Yum.

Got some presents from near and far! Nail goodies from Gina, books and choccies from Heather, and a bunch of food from home (which I managed to make last until the end of the month, except for the chicken salt which will last for like a year).

We also went to dinner with my mother in law, brother in law and his fiancee - sort of a couple of birthday celebrations and congratulations on their new house (I'm so excited for them) but the only picture I got was of the dessert - crème brûlée so freaking good.

Finally at the end of the month we had book club - this time we had brunch style food, so good. I have always wanted to join a book club but was worried because I don't think I am very good at talking about books, I either say 'I liked it' or 'I didn't like it' but I feel like book club is actually bringing that out - we've chosen a few books that really encourage discussion and it's just a bunch of fun. I never would have been in a book club if it weren't for my friend, so thanks Jenni! Our latest book was Rabbit by Patricia Williams, very interesting and funny.

So that's all for me and February! If you'd like to link up with us, please do so below.

Here's to March! March is a fun month to me because it's when fun things finally start happening and we get to shake off the blah of winter. It's one step closer to summer, which is a bonus in my book!

So, what's new with you?

  3. So glad you had a great birthday month! I love the idea of celebrating throughout the month and also convincing your loved ones to do things you've always wanted to do.... I'm going to keep that in mind. So excited to hear what you think of Tell me three things! I still have to read the third Shades of Magic book that you sent me. Lol. I am looking forward to March too!

  4. I'm glad you had a good birthday month and ate plenty of cake :) I'm still so impressed by that painted board thingy. I might have a look and see if there's something like that around here. It looks so profesh!

Speaking of meat pies, I found a chain in Queensland that does proper Aussie meat pies but gluten free! It changed my life and I feel one step closer to being accepted by Australia. I'm also a bit glad I don't live in Queensland or I would just live on pie - they're so good!

Also yay for care packages! Looks like it was stuffed with joy. I'm impressed you made it last so long. And now I feel I need to go find chicken salt.

  5. Glad you had a great birthday month and especially got some goodies from your home. I've always thought those wooden painting things were cool. Perhaps I'll get some buddies of mine together and do one sometime soon.

  7. That looks like a really fun & successful birthday month! The cooking class & Board and Brush class both sound like a lot of fun. I really want to do another wine & painting class but I'm being super picky about the picture. I did one awhile back when I was in MN & it is basically MN themed, I want a TX one to hang next to it. I hope you have a fabulous March!

  8. You guys are stunning in the masquerade pics! So pretty!! I wish there were more events like that for adult to get all fancy and attend.
I worked at a job where I was the youngest by +12 years. It sucked. I'm glad you have a good batch of coworkers!
That sign is so pretty. You did a great job! I never have the patience for those types of classes. The cooking class sounds super interesting, though!
I always end up only taking a photo of dessert- usually creme brulee! Haha!

  13. Sounds like a fantastic birthday month! Cadbery eggs are kind of the best. I really want to do one of those sign classes. I've done the follow along paintings, which I do love! Anything creative is kind of fun though.
That's great you are enjoying your book club. I'm in one at my local library that I'm really loving.
I've never been to Nothing Bundt Cakes, but those look yummy and I have one near me so I need to go!

  17. Hooray for a fun month of pretty much celebrating! Isn’t that what birthday months are supposed to be like? That make your own sign class sounds like so much fun! I’ve only ever done the painting classes. And yes to drinking and not getting a hangover! That’s definitely a success!

  18. It looks like a fantastic birthday month! And pizza is a great choice for a birthday meals. Seriously, my birthday isn't until July and I'm already working on what I'm going to eat. I take that very seriously and know you are someone who understands. :D I love the Board and Brush class - looks like a lot of fun.

  19. How fun! Looks like a great month! My problem with some of the book clubs is that I don't like the books they want to read. One of the ones I am a part of the last two books were books I didn't even bother to finish.

  24. So you basically ate and drank your way through February!! That’s awesome! It’s a short month too so you should definitely celebrate often - I’m like that too with my bday month, celebrate for the whole 30 days! Happy belated! Everything looks so yummy! I would love to take a cooking class one day! How fun!

  32. I would love to do a Brush&Board class! I always think they look like so much fun. Yours is great!

  33. I have always wanted to do a cooking class too!!

  34. Wow, your birthday month was definitely a success! :-) I'm glad you shared pictures from your cooking class! I've always wanted to do one of those as well. (And the regular chairs at the super high table? That's like my life! Okay, I'm probably exaggerating, but at 5'1", I can feel like I'm sitting at a giant's table if the chairs and tables are even a little disproportionate.)

I gave up drinking alcohol this year (minus January 1st because Eric and I always drink mimosas all day on New Year's Day), and your post is making me miss it! I really don't notice going without that much, but it sucks when I go out because I love trying different cocktails or having a glass of wine with dinner. I've been good with it so far, though, so I'm going to keep up my streak. (And it's awesome that you didn't have to deal with any shitty hangovers or anything!)

The food in this post looks amazing! I love Cadbury Creme Eggs too (they're my favorite candy besides Reese's Peanut Butter Cups). I also love creme brulee. Yum! And I have to ask ... Chicken salt? Does it actually have a chicken flavor, or is it a specially seasoned salt meant for chicken?

Happy birthday (again)! I'm glad your month was fabulous! :-)
