TGIF #2

Happy freaking Friday, for reals. Come 5pm I will be as happy as Millie laying on towels all over the house. She loves to lay on towels so I have them on every flat surface and.... what is the 'whipped' version for cats? Because I am that. I love them so much. And I swear she is happy, she has resting don't take a photo of me face.

Thrilled - I discovered Passionflix recently and I am, well, thrilled. I know it sounds a bit... you know.. but they make movies out of books, yes, romance books, but they also have other movies up there (like Pride & Prejudice, Kate & Leopold, Wuthering Heights). It's not for everyone, duh, but I am a fan. It's like $5.99 a month, but they always have deals and I think I signed up for like $3.99 a month. They have a new movie coming out next Friday, and I was so excited to plan my Friday night around this movie because I'm lame like that, but then my work announced they are having one of our christmas parties that night. On a scale of one to loser, how lame would it be to skip the party and chill with a romantic comedy movie? Asking for a friend.

Grateful forgot to mention in my November recap that we did not do anything for thanksgiving. Obviously my family doesn't do anything for it, not that we could join them if they did, but KC's mom always hosts and takes it pretty seriously. I mentioned a few months ago that his grandpa (so my MIL's dad) has a pretty advanced cancer and he just finished his first round of treatment and got pneumonia right before thanksgiving. So she didn't want to host, understandably so. He is over the pneumonia, he is home now. We were able to go down and visit him last weekend. I do not know how to say this without sounding morbid, but he will not be around much longer so I am glad we were able to visit with him while we could.

In love with - I got a bluetooth speaker for my car a few months ago, I'm not even going to link to it because it stopped working and was super annoying after like 2 weeks. It was so finicky and if I touched it or turned a corner, it would turn off and was driving me batty. When it finally died and could not be resuscitated, I looked into replacements and discovered this one for $20. It is 1 million times better. First, it turns on and off WITH THE CAR. Game changer. Also, it comes with sticky stuff to stick to my car. Also also also, I like the buttons. I like it, I love it.

Favourite - My new favourite thing right now is to not utilise prime's 2 day shipping.  Crazy, I know. I mean, I am as impatient as the next person and seriously spoiled, but if I can wait, I do. I choose the no rush free shipping option for $1 credit for digital items. It's not the end of the world having to wait a few more days, and I build up my credits to get 'free' or discounted books.

I have a limit with how much I will spend on kindle books. I read too much, have too much of a book buying addiction to not save money where I can. My limit is like... $3-$4. I just can't justify spending more for an ebook that I can't physically hold, can't lend to someone (well I can, but you know), can't sell to half price books or drop off in a little free library (KC is going to build me one next year and I CAN'T WAIT).. so yeah. I have a limit. There are a few books that are $5-$6 that I've wanted for ages now (literally years, I am a tight arse) and I finally bought them using these credits.

It's stupid because now I just want to buy things to get credits, and I could just buy the book rather than something I don't need to get a credit. Like buying a new meal planning notepad (not an affiliate link, but I love it) that I don't quite need yet. Logic, none.

You can check your no rush shipping credits here if you do the same.

And that's about it from me. Christmas will be here before we know it and I am about 3% done with gifts, so I should probably get on that.

Anyone else have a limit they impose upon themselves for things like books or ebooks?

  1. Lol whatever the whipped version is for dogs I'm that. I slept on the couch last night for a couple hours instead of just going to bed because Nash was all comfy & asleep on me feet.

  2. Warm towels, yes! I am a NO RUSH prime girl, too. Unless it's needed asap, I uncheck and get the benefit :)!

  3. Millie is so cute, but her face really is like, "are you REALLY taking a picture of me right now?" lol. I love when there are digital credits for things-- this week I noticed it was for DVDs, which we won't use so I was slightly annoyed and just stuck with the faster shipping. Yay for KC building a Little Free Library!

  4. Now that I have a Kindle I REALLY need to take advantage of the non-2-day-shipping credits. I agree with you- I just won't splurge on ebooks because they're not necessarily tangible.
I'm glad you were able to spend time with family. Honestly, the holidays are less important than the family members we spend them with.

  5. I FINALLY UNSUBSCRIBED FROM GOODREADS DEALS! - big day over here. (I mean I did it a few months ago), but I was buying wayyy too many ebooks on deals. Know how many I've read..? 1?! I have 30+. Ridiculous! Cold Turkey for a bit. I'm so sorry to see/re-read(?) about KC's grandpa that's very hard. I can totally understand his mom not hosting Thanksgiving. I'm glad that you got to see him though, and that he has gotten over the pneumonia. :) Oh my gosh, that romance channel sounds crazy but great. LOL. Work parties. We had a potluck yesterday, usually I'm super into planning... but... meh, was not feeling it. And my boss kept telling me to eat... awkward. So amazing that you will have a LFL!! I would love to have one someday! :) XO - Alexandra

  7. This link is so handy! I nearly always select that option but I never knew how to access my rewards - thank you for posting!

  8. WHAT! You can get Amazon credit for not choosing 2 day delivery???? How did I not notice this? I mean, sure, it's nice to get things fast and sometimes you need them fast, but most of the time, I'd be happy to wait a few extra days for credit that I can use to buy books! LOVE! I'm with you, though, I am not a fan of paying $14.99 for a digital book, especially when you can often get the physical book for about the same price. I'm glad KC's Grandpa is doing well. My Grandpa just turned 90 and I know my years with him are getting numbered. It is morbid but also truth and why spending time with him is even more important. Have a great weekend!

P.S. Max also has resting cat face. :D

  9. I struggle with buying books. Full stop. I'm always afraid I'm going to hate the book and then it's a waste of money. But if I do, I generally try not to buy more than 3 at a time. I don't know why 3.

  10. Oh I am the opposite. Give me all the two day shipping or give me death! Something like that. Happy friday! You to lay on those proverbial blankets!!

  11. Most things I don't need in two days so I've been taking the credit too.

  12. I'm totally with you on opting to not use 2-day shipping if I don't need the thing right away and the "perk" is something good. They also will sometimes give you credit for Prime TV for the titles that aren't included for free, and other stuff like Pantry or Fresh (which we don't use, but it's good to know). I just got $10 for Amazon Restaurants which we've never used but probably will because, hello, $10 off.

  13. Slow shipping to get "digital" credit to use for BOOKS is something I never even considered! Ugh, I for some reason thought it was for music and movies. Duuuh Megan. And I just ordered a whole bunch of shiznit from Amazon that I wasn't in a rush for. EEEDIOT!!

  14. I love getting the credit - even if I don't end up using it. I got a $10 Home Services credit this week ... didn't even know Amazon offered Home Services but now I have a credit and I'm not sure what to use it on. And the thing is, since I live so near the Amazon hub, their non-rush shipping still gets to my house in 2-3 days max PLUS I get a credit. Win-win.

  15. I totally respect you planning your Friday night around a movie on Passionflix! I would rather stay home watching movies than going to a work party any day of the week :) Those Amazon credits are pretty nice, I should start doing that too though I think I'm way too impatient to do that lol.

  16. I just saw an author that I follow on social media share something about that Passion Flix ... I'm intrigued. I can't justify paying for another TV subscription type thing right now, but maybe in the future. Glad to hear that you're enjoying it! Sorry to hear about KC's grandpa - I know how difficult that can be, but that's nice that you were able to spend some time with him.

  17. I've never heard of Passionflix, but it sounds fun! I'd also rather skip a work party and watch a movie instead. Haha! I've been doing the same thing with Amazon credits so I can rent movies. I ordered today and they've taken that option away and now it's $10 to a home service, which I will never use. Boo.

  18. Hmmm Passionflix sounds like something I need. I didn't realize there was an option to get a $1 credit and if I am being totally honest..half the shit that is supposed to be 2-day shipping hasn't been coming in two days this month so double bugger on them! I will have to chose that option next time.

  19. Oh I have never heard of Passionflix. I will have to check it out. I always do the rush shipping, even when I don't really need it. I won't anymore. Thanks for the info!

  20. Yeeepp, I definitely have book spending limits because I read too much to go crazy. I rarely spend more than $5 on a book because I have an awesome secondhand bookstore near our house.

  21. I usually took the extra credits, too! Of course we have brand new but still extremely minimal Amazon here so that's not an option yet. I'm keen for Prime to launch soon, it's amazing how quickly you get used to certain services!

Most Christmas parties are lame if you ask me (I can't stand Enforced Fun) so I'd take the film+sofa option any evening. I have become oddly addicted to house hunting type programs for people buying beach houses, so I'd be watching those and tearing my hair out that you can buy a mansion with a pool on the beach in the Caribbean for the same price as a 1 bed flat down the road. Arrrrrgh Sydney why.
