TGIF #1

I recently finished The Gifts of Imperfection by Brené Brown and she mentions that she used to (or still does but I couldn't find it) do a weekly TGIF series on her blog, where she talked about a few things to do with trusting, gratitude, inspiring and faith. I thought it was a fun idea but decided to change the words for the letters and I'll probably change them every week because why not. I will stick with something to do with gratitude/being thankful though, because it's something I want to work on. I put it on my Operation Get Happy and have done absolutely nothing gratitude related. Perfect excuse to make me do it now. FYI no affiliate links were used.

Thinking - I had a busy weekend last weekend, next weekend will be busy, so this weekend will be the opposite of busy and I cannot wait to do absolutely nothing. Well, I will be doing some things - sitting on the couch, reading, eating, annoying my cats.. that's about it. Penny has been weird lately so I've been trying to suffocate her with my love to get her back to normal.

Grateful - I am trying to be less of a grinch this year so am trying to think of things that I like about cold weather. The number #1 thing I like about winter is making myself warm - hot drinks, blankets and slippers. So I'm grateful for those things, and bought myself some new slippers to celebrate being less grinchy... so far anyway.

Inspired - As I shared on Instagram, we finally installed our 'secret' drawers aka the drawer within a drawer. I also bought a bunch of stuff from ikea to organise and other random stuff, then I bought a couple of things from Chip & Jo's line at Target (I'm not a hardcore fan of them, but some of that stuff was crazy cute - namely this house lantern thing and this frame thing, I'm going to take the picture out, I just loved the frame) and it gave me the kick up the butt to really start organising and decorating the house. Of course I'm just doing it bit by bit, but it's better than not doing it at all.

Those drawer divider things were $1.99 each and perfect for our 2 junk drawers. That clip on basket was THREE DOLLARS, though full disclosure after I snapped the picture I realised my cabinet wouldn't close properly, and I cried a bit but then KC bent the front bit so it wasn't at an angle, now it closes. Phew. Our plastic bags were sitting in a trader joes bag and took up half that cabinet, so I bought one of those super fancy plastic bag holders for $1.99 and I love it. I'm trying to cut down on our plastic bag usage, but.. kitty litter. These bins from Ikea were $4.50 and they organise the rest of the under the sink mess, I love them and want 75 more. I also got 2 of the smaller ones and they are in my pantry. One day I want to get something bigger/fancier for my under sink so I use up some of that dead space but this'll do for now. Lastly, I've had this leaning bookshelf thing from Target for like 3 months, finally made KC put it together for this weird spot behind the couch aaaaand I love it. Now to fill it with all the crap.

Favourite - After we went to Ikea the other week, we went to dinner and got pizza and I discovered this new wine that I really liked and then found it at the bottle shop. So good. I'm still figuring out what kind of wine I actually like, and apparently I like this kung fu girl riesling.

So, that's a few things from me this week. Tell me, do you have any super fun organisational things I should buy? Did you get anything from Chip & Jo's whatever the line is called at Target?

  1. Umm, I love this idea. I've been trying to write things down in a note I'm thankful for and plan on doing one long post at the end of the month instead of little ones on FB everyday like I see others doing. Mostly because I'd probably forget everyday and I can catch up before I post, lol. It has been nice to kind of think about the little things. Glad KC was able to fix your cabinet not closing with your new gadget. Enjoy your less busy weekend!!

  2. Riesling is good...it's my go-to most of the time if we're going to someone's house or having people over because pretty much everyone likes it.
I might do some Target browsing today.

  3. This is the best idea and a perfect way to end out every week. I dont have a target here (though I can order online) but I like the frame. It seems the lantern has also been super popular too. PS cheers to a non busy weekend. Im with you on that!

  6. I love this idea-- I meant to have a gratitude journal back in January and I never started it consistently. Those cat slippers are SO fun! We got a new couch and had to move around our TV and now we have a bunch of empty space and haven't been able to figure out what to do with it, but now I think a leaning bookshelf would be the perfect size. I was thinking a blanket ladder, but we really don't even have a lot of blankets- nor can I see us actually using them and rehanging them up all the time, lol.

  9. Have you ever been to a tasting at a winery? That might help you decide what kind you like. If you're ever in Pittsburgh I'll take you to the Pittsburgh Winery..they have the most amazing wines!

  10. YES to finding organizing gems and making them work, esp if they're cheap and $1.99 is my kind of price :D

  12. Love the TGIF format. Could be fun to mix it up every week too! Kitchen organization is always a good topic, and it feels so good to finally get some stuff in order that's been a pain point for a while. Love the bookcase too. I always wanted one of those leaning style bookcases but never got around to buying one and now don't have the space for one, but it looks like the perfect solution for that space in your living room.

  13. Love the prompt idea - I did GIFT today totally coincidentally LOL.

I like that frame - I saw it this week in Target but didn't know you could remove and replace the photo. I will have to check it out again.

  14. Those kitty slippers are adorable! I was just looking at some unicorn ones on Amazon but they were $45 so I had to pass. The Riesling sounds delish!

  15. I haven't shopped Chip & Jo's line at Target yet, but I plan to.
I love your new slippers! I love that winter gives us an excuse to make warm drinks and bundle up under blankets and sweatshirts :)
Your pantry/cupboard organization is inspiring! I love the plastic bag holder (because dog poo pick up... ugh).

  17. I checked out Chip & Jo's line at Target and I was, sadly, a little uninspired! I can make a blanket for less than $29, I make wreaths, and I didn't really love their candles haha I'm such a snob. BUT I love them, so then I felt all sorts of sad for not loving all the things. First world problems.

  18. I love the idea of a secret drawer but I am terrified of what will get forgotten about inside of one in my house.

Weekends of absolutely nothing are my favorite

  21. I love this idea for a post! So fun! Girl, I am so so so jealous of your secret drawers! I need them in my life! Chip and Jo's line at Target is seriously the cutest and I want to fill my house with their stuff. I hope you have a fabulous weekend loving on Penny :)

  22. It’s totally a blessing that Target in Australia isn’t like the US because my hank account would be EMPTY 😂

  23. Yay for all things organization. I love your "secret" drawers - those are seriously the best. We always have Riesling at Thanksgiving - it actually tastes really good with turkey, so I'll have to look for that specific brand. Hope you're enjoying your weekend of nothing!

  24. I could read about storage all day long and I'm not even joking. I swear once we get a place of our very own I am going to go totally nuts and poor S isn't going to know what hit him. Have you heard of The Home Edit? I just found their Instagram account and it's utterly amazing. They go around organising famous people's houses and it's basically a dream for organisation freaks.

  25. Ooh I love this. Storage is the best. LOL. We felt super cool for finally buying those itty bitty not quality shelves that you can insta-hang. We put them up in our temporary bathroom/apartment/blahhhh blah space. It is perfect for our bathroom items, as our bathroom wasn't meant for brushing teeth, etc. without a cabinet. It's the easiest thing and cost maybe $20, but it is amazing! I also got some copper baskets in the target dollar spot. One we are using for extra TP in the bathroom. The others are being used for my scrapbook things. :) Little things that make life easier make me happy! :) I love all of the organizing you did! :) And yay for lazy weekends. :) XO - Alexandra

  26. yeah I love weekends when you have nothing on and you can just relax! Especially after a busy few weeks. Those drawer divider things are so handy. I want to get some from ikea for the baby room to sort things like baby socks from clothes etc!

  27. Those rack things are genius for in the pantry. I love them. Also, I love IKEA. They have thought of everything! And yes to wine -- all of it.
