October 2017 Recap - What's New With You Link Up

Good morning everyone! Time for another link up with Gretch & me, all we ask is that you link back somewhere in your post. Thanks a bunch. I'll be doing another monthly recap because that's how I roll.

What's New With You

October was a bit of a quiet month over here, which I am in no way complaining about. A couple of fun things though, first off - my friend and her friends started a book club and I guilted my friend into inviting me and it was AMAZING. The book was not, unfortunately.

I am hosting the next meeting and I'm not nervous about it at all. AT ALL.

Then, the biggest and best thing to happen in October (and 2017) - Tracy completed her Ironman! I am selfishly so glad she decided to do it in Louisville so I could spectate. Alyssa and I drove around all day following her and cheering for her (and strangers) - it was a lot of fun.

It was a busy weekend but kind of made me want to do an Ironman for like 3 seconds and then I decided no thank you, but I will absolutely spectate or volunteer next year.

Alyssa sent me the cutest cat mug, and the cats loved the box it came in, naturally.

Then of course as you all know, it was halloween on Tuesday and we actually got quite a few trick or treaters. The most fun part of the night was when our next door neighbours hit our house, the little boy said to KC 'hey, what are you doing?' like he was just popping over for a visit rather than trick or treating. I guess you had to be there but it was really hilarious.

^ I can take or leave most of that candy, so that was for the best!

As for other things, like the kitchen - it's at a standstill. We haven't really done anything else, it is a fully functional kitchen so anything we have left to do isn't important, just little things. I'm sure we will get to them eventually. We are too busy being lazy slugs right now instead.

And now here we are in November. Not gonna lie, November & December are my least favourite months of the year and I get crankier as the days go on. I'm trying to be less of a grinch this year, but there are a couple of things happening right now that make that hard for me to do. When life upsets me, I turn into negative nancy, and around the holidays that turns into the grinch. One of the things happening right now that is making me sad, thus negative, thus grinchy already, is that mum told me on Tuesday that it's time to put Pacey down. I cried all day and am still a bit of a mess. I am glad I got to see her in June but wish I could go home and be with her now.

I know everyone says this, but she really is the best, sweetest dog you ever knew. I feel insanely lucky to have her in my life and heart.

So, what's new with you?

    Love the cat mug.

  3. Oh no :( sorry to hear about Pacey. That's rough. That would turn me into a grinch, too. She looks like a total sweetheart.

I hope hosting book group goes well! I'm sure it will. How can it not?!

  4. That's so sad about your dog...and that you're so far away. I'm sure she had a happy life though.

There will always be little bits and pieces left to a remodel...especially with a kitchen!

  5. Ah I'm so sorry to hear about Pacey :( I agree that November and December are some of the worst months. Was it better in Australia since that was your summertime? It's just cold and gray here every day..I can't stand it!

  6. sorry to hear about Pacey :( We had to put down our family dog a few years ago and it was horrible. I cried so much. They really are a part of your family. I hope your Christmas season gets better!

  8. I'm so sorry to hear about Pacey. That's horrible! :(

I'm not really a fan of November - but I'm hoping to fill it up with lots of fun things to make it more exciting and enjoyable. We'll see.

Yay for a book club - hope the next read is better though!

  9. Oh no friend I am so sorry to hear about Pacey :( You must be heartbroken being so far away. What a sweet looking dog. I hope this November and December aren't quite as hard for you as other years but I know it's so hard to be away from home. What book are you guys reading for book club next month?
PS I think we definitely need to do our "Austen tribute" before Christmas and hopefully that will lift your spirits a tiny bit.
    XOXO

  10. Oh no, I'm sorry to hear about Pacey! I've been trying to prepare for Boomer as he gets older, but I know there really is no preparing. I hate that pets don't live as long as us. Umm, book club sounds all kinds of awesome and you're leading the next one...which book? Do you get to choose or do you guys vote?

  11. SO SAD about pacy :( losing a pet is so hard. big hugs to you guys!

  12. So sorry to hear about Pacey. That's terrible. And I'm sure so tough to not be nearby. I've not lost a pet, but I know how much I love mine, so I can't even imagine what it will be like. They're just such sweet, innocent, caring souls. And so perceptive.

  13. So sorry about Pacey. All the sads. There is no preparing.

Hurrah for Iron Man support and book club at your place next time! You'll be fine. Just have snacks LOL.

There are things that remain undone in our kitchen like six or seven years later...

  14. Oh man... I hate any time to ever hear of a fur baby coming to the end of this world's life. So sad.
Isnt being in the Ironman atmosphere amazing? I hate I had to miss it - the first one I've missed in like 5 years. I get that Ironman fever for about as long as you do too. The training for that. OH LORD.

  15. I'm so sorry about Pacey - my heart feels sad for you! Losing a pet is never, ever easy. Sending you all the love.
My brother has done two Ironmans, and I still think he's nuts. I'll stick to spectating, ha!

  16. So fun that you and Alyssa got to spectate. If we had ironman here Id totally volunteer too. Seems so fun.

That cat mug is THE BEST!!!

Sorry about Pacey and I hope nothing too serious is happening at the moment. That said, I totally get grumpy vibes too around the hols. Bleh. Hugs friend.

  17. I enjoyed watching your Instagram stories throughout the day and seeing Tracy finish. So awesome that you got to be there, and so bad ass of her!!!! I hate that my favorite months are your least favorite. I am going to try to channel some of my annoying cheer your way, ok?? I am so sorry again about Pacey. When you told us the other day, I started crying for you. I am emotional wreck when it comes to the loss of pets and pets of my loved ones. I know how hard it is. I bet Pacey and Gracie will be playing together in doggie heaven!

    1. Oh, and I am also totally jealous of your book club!!! I want to have a book club so bad!

  18. That cat mug is adorable! I don't think I could ever do an Ironman, but it would be really cool to see an event and cheer everyone on.

So sorry about your dog. That is rough.

  19. That cat mug is amazing. And I'm so glad October was slow for you. It was crazy for me and I'm very much looking forward to a slow cold hermit-living winter. Lol. Besides our many business trips and holiday obligations. *shrug*
I'm so so so sorry about Pacey :( This time of the year (even when it's the opposite on the other side of the world) always seems so tough on dogs. We've lost two around Christmas time. Remember how worried you were that she wouldn't remember you and then she FLIPPED OUT to see you?? She 100% knows that you love her and you're there in spirit. She still loves you and feels that love from you, even across the the planet. I'm so sorry you're so far away, though. It's never ever easy- close or far.

  20. Cats and boxes. I don't understand the appeal but cats sure do love them. I am so sorry about Pacey. It's so hard when it's time to say good-bye to a beloved fur baby. I still miss my Emeril five years later, but now memories make me smile versus cry. Yummy snacks and lots of wine will make book club a huge hit at your house. :D The cat mug is super cute. I want one too!

  21. Boo for bad book club books, but since you're hosting, does that mean you get to pick the book? I've never been a part of one, so I have no clue! Still so sorry to hear about your Pacey - I've secretly always wanted to participate in a triathlon, but then see all the training, and am like, NOPE.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Sorry you didn't love the book, but yay for new book clubs! And so awesome that you and Alyssa got to follow Tracey's race!

So sorry for your loss. I've been there- I know losing a pet is like losing a family member, but hope you know she had a good, long life! I hope the rest of your month gets better. Hugs!

  23. Oh Kristen - So sorry to hear about Pacey. Losing a pet is so so hard. Thinking of you.

  24. Hooray for getting involved in your friend's book club! I swear it's so much fun to talk about books, even if it's online, but there's something special about meeting all in person. And hooray for getting trick or treaters! They're so much fun!

    ReplyDelete
  25. So stinking sorry about your dog, that would totally turn me into the grinch too. UGH! Wish I could send you money so you could visit and then hug you. Hmmm, that doesn't really work but makes sense, right?

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'm so so sorry about your dog - she looks like such a sweetheart and I know that is one of the hardest things to have happen, especially when you can't be there. Thinking of you friend... sending internet hugs your way and hoping November and December aren't to terrible and end up bringing you some smiles :) :) :)

  27. Sorry that progress on the kitchen has stalled, but I can't wait to see it all finished. And sending lots and lots of hugs for your precious pup. But yay for a new book club, and you've totally got this for hosting the next get together <3

  29. I volunteered for the Ironman twice several years back when it was held on Labor Day weekend (and hot as balls both times). It's quite an experience that I'm glad I did.

It's never easy saying goodby to a beloved pet. I am very sorry.

I'm so sorry to hear about your dog back home. It's never easy to lose a pet.
I can't wait to catch up with your life more - I loved seeing your kitchen reno on Instagram! I was SO proud of Tracy for the Iron Man. I'm glad you were there to celebrate with her.

  33. Yay for book club but boo to a crappy book. Good luck with hosting the next one - it’s not as scary as it seems!

I’m sending big hugs your way. Pets are the best kind of family members and losing them is so tough 😢

  34. Aw, well this post was a flip flop of emotions! Happy about all the great things you have going on but so sorry about your dog. That is heartbreaking. I'm with you on the holidays...could we just skip the next two months? Already dreading it. :/

  35. OMG that mug. So perfect! Also, yes to wanting to do sporting events when you spectate haha that's how I get roped into 99% of everything I end up doing!

    Have a great weekend!

  36. That mug is so fun! It looks like you guys at so much fun with Tracy and Alyssa in town-- plus soo awesome to see Tracy finish! I can only imagine how awesome the energy must be at an IM event. Yay for an IRL book club-- even if the book wasn't the best. The cover and title are definitely catchy. I am so, so sorry to hear about Pacey.

  37. I'm so sorry to hear about your family's dog. :( That's so sad. I'm glad that you got to see her in June though. Hugs. I can understand turning super grumpy when life gets sad or stressful. I have been that way on and off a lot this year. : / I hope that you are able to enjoy the holidays some either way. I'm trying to make the best of things despite our current icky family situation. LOL. We'll see how that goes. Glad book club was awesome, you'll be a great host. :) I hope you enjoy your November/December. ;) XO - Alexandra

  38. We hardly had any trick or treaters and now have SO MUCH candy! Luckily I live with three 20-something-year-old guys and every evening the living room gets littered with wrappers haha, so the two gigantic bowls won’t last through the weekend.

I’m so so sorry to hear about Pacey ♥ It’s so tough when we have to say goodbye and I’m thinking of you and your family during this sad time.

    ReplyDelete
  39. So sorry about your Pacey :( What a hard thing to go through right during the holidays. Extra hugs to you!

  40. Yeah November isn't a great month really! My brother has done an ironman several times. I think he's crazy, haha! You have to do some serious training.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Oh no, so sorry to hear about your family pup! Sending hugs!

Cheers to hosting book club though! I have a friend that would LOVE that mug - so cute!
