2017 Fourth Quarter Goals

I keep forgetting to do these posts until the quarter has already started. Oops. I feel like this year has gone by so fast but also agonisingly slow. I am so ready for 2018.

I just posted about goals/my operation get happy the other day, so forgive the double up. I have discovered that the quarterly goals didn't really work for me, but I liked that I had more time to do things. I think next year I'll do yearly and monthly, or maybe monthly and quarterly. I don't know. We shall see. Riveting stuff, I know. Something I need to work on is when shit goes down, not giving up on everything completely. I am 100% for giving up/letting go of something when it no longer fits your life or will make you happy, but sometimes I get a little cranky at life and the world and give up on everything even though there's no reason to.

As for my third quarter goals, I tried to keep them nice and simple so I was more likely to accomplish them. I accomplished one of them.. the doctor's appointment. I did not make my eye doctor appointment though, so I only really accomplished half of that goal.

As usual, I'm just going to ignore the failure from the previous set of goals and make some new ones!

- Work on my Operation Get Happy.
- Read all of my netgalley books. I currently have 26, 13 older than 3 months and 6 pending requests. I am going to try really hard and not request anymore, so if everyone else could stop recommending netgalley books that would be great.
- Finish Erin's challenge. I have 7 books to read before the end of the month. They are all books I own except for one library book.
- Get all Christmas presents purchased by end of November. Couple of years ago I had them all done by like September, but I am not on the ball this year.
- Don't be such a grinchy scrooge this year. I hate winter, I dislike a lot of the things that come with the holiday season where I live now, but I am going to live here for the foreseeable future so I really need to just get over it.
- Meal plan. I am getting better at this, but still not where I want to be and not enough to make a difference in the grocery budget.
- Take the cats to the vet. I made and canceled several appointments earlier this year, I really need to be a better cat owner and make it happen.
- Make and actually attend an eye doctor appointment.

That's all from me folks. Tell me, do you do monthly, quarterly, weekly, yearly goals? Or just whenever you feel like it?

  1. Good goals, lady! I'm with you on Christmas gifts, I want to get em all cared for so I don't have to worry about anything come December. Keep up the great work with Operation get happY!

  2. I'm a total grinch with winter but once you actually get out and do stuff, it's not that bad. This year I'm excited about snow shoeing. can that be any more canadian?! it's a great workout as well so if you guys get a lot of snow, you should rent a pair and check it out for yourself - you work up a sweat, it works your entire body and it's actually quite nice being outdoors in the winter looking at snow-covered trees.

  4. These are very practical goals! I 100% understand you on the vet/eye appointments though. If something isn't wrong...it feels like a waste of time to go to a doctor of any sort. Logically I know checkups and preventive care are important, but I still don't like it!

  5. I stopped doing annual goals/resolutions -- too much pressure to change all the things and no plans on how to accomplish any of it. I'm going to try to break those goals down into quarterly, monthly, even weekly goals ... so it's basically a to-do list, I suppose. I'm stuck with eye appointments though - I wear daily disposable contacts and they won't give me my next year's supply until I go to an appt.

  6. GOALS to have christmas shopping done early. I swear, I'm still shopping AFTER Christmas for christmas gifts. (those late get togethers) - I wish I was joking

  7. I told myself to cool it with the Netgalley books too, unless it's a known author and a series I already read. My netgalley books tend to be real hit or miss (and more likely a miss) which has made reading less fun because I feel obligated to read the book. It's always been a struggle for me to DNF any book but almost impossible to do with a netgalley book. I aspire to be an early Christmas shopper but in reality tend to be more of a last-minute shopper. :D

  8. haha I know I am guilty of telling you Netgalley books...but like...they are ones I think you would be sad if you missed out on :) That makes it ok, right? LOL. I am trying to get my amount of books on there down too! What is it about the holidays that you don't like? Is it a seasonal thing since your seasons have basically changed when you moved here? I am one of those annoyingly in love Christmas people. Maybe I can send you some of my sap and cheer? haha. I FINALLY went to the eye doctor back in August. I had been meaning to go for ohhhhh four years. Oops. It wasn't near as bad as I remember. They have this option now that for an extra little bit of money...you dont have to get dilated. That was my whole purpose of not wanting to go before and it is so worth it!!!

  9. I have just so many books to read atm, its crazy! I actually stopped doing goals as I found the pressure of them made me grouchy mc grouch pants. Still, I love to see people killing their goals and Im considering monthly goals next year - yes riveting. I have to buy Christmas presents early as I leave for Europe on the 16th December so no time for last minute shopping.

PS Im so curious as to what you dislike about Christmas where you are. Lol yes Im nosy.

  10. I'm trying to have my holiday shopping done by November but I'm not sure if I will. oh man I'm trying to get better with meal planning but its so hard. Sometimes I'm so tired, its' easier to just get some take out. However, that isn't good for the wallet or waist line.

  11. It's my goal to finish Erin's challenge by the end of this month too! I only have like 2.5 more books to go so hopefully I can do it! And oh my goodness Netgalley is my major struggle too! I've gotten to the point that I just delete emails from them because I have so many books outstanding that I really shouldn't be asking for me, especially considering how long it takes me to read them.

  12. I'd have a weekly to do list for more urgent stuff and then long term goals I want to get done at some point in the next few months. I'm not a big fan of winter either! The people I know who actually like winter are the ones who are into winter sports I find. I do like Christmas time, but I hate January and February when you are broke and freezing.

  13. Great goals! I really want to work on getting my Christmas shopping done earlier this year. I'm so bad at waiting until the last minute!

  14. You are my HERO. I always wait until the week before Christmas and then hate myself for it.

  15. I think your goals are super healthy and mind-easing and manageable for you! I hope you check them all off!! Don't let the cold winter weather discourage you ;)

  16. I am determined not to let Christmas get out of hand (aka too late) this year because we have so many gifts to buy for nieces and nephews and it always gets overwhelming, which takes the fun out of it. Appointments are so hard, but I'm confident you can get them checked off by the end of the year!

  17. You just motivated me to get started on my Christmas shopping...I never think to do it this early. Vet appointments are so hard to schedule with your work schedule but luckily Lola's boarding place is also a vet clinic so it's a 2-in-1 deal and she absolutely loves them! What cat or dog loves going to the vet?? x Emily @ Martinis & Bikinis

  18. Ah Christmas. Thanks for the reminder on shopping! I keep forgetting that I now have to have presents organised 1 month+ out from the date they need to arrive. And there are birthdays to take care of between now and then too, so I need to start making some lists!

I'm excited about Christmas this year because we're somewhere totally new so we get to design the holiday exactly how we want it. No obligations. It's really nice!

  19. Oh gosh, goals are the hardest sometimes! I guess I have yearly ones but monthly sometimes too; it really depends on what I want to get done. I'm usually so good with Christmas gifts but not this year, so getting all of mine finished by the end of November would be great too; or at least not to have TOO much to do and/or get in December.

  20. Goals are my jam. Love them. I don't know I think I do the same thing in that I make goals... and then don't do them... and then make more. I started doing the monthly ones (based on my yearly ones) mostly because I wasn't keeping up with the yearly ones, which was annoying to me. Plus your linkups gave me the perfect time to do it. I find that I still do the fun ones, and not the less fun ones.. haha, but I think overall it is going better for me to do it this way. I almost wonder if setting 2 months worth of goals would be better or just crazy. LOL. I realize that my seasonal bucket lists are mostly just for fun... so I don't usually end up doing a lot from them. We'll see. But it's hard not to want to set Seasonal goals and long term ones too. I have no real good advice, ramble ramble. LOL. Good luck with Christmas, I can see how that would be really hard. For me, things get murky when it comes to family holidays now, and I find that making fun traditions for just me and KC and our cats helps me. Being excited that he and I are picking a charity to give to, or having our hot schnappslate + love actually movie night, or going to the nutracker is fun, even if everything else is nuts or stressful or sad. Plus, I'm embarrassingly addicted to Hallmark xmas movies, and for that matter xmas fiction. I eat that stuff up. haha Um yeah, I have a ton of Netgalley books too. I am trying to read them because I don't want to be denied new ones. But the struggle is super real. I have 2.5 books left for Erin's 7.0 so there should be no excuses. LOL. And I can't really talk about meal planning. I have just so little motivation for it right now. Boo. Good luck with all of your goals and deciding on how you want to do them next year! :) XO - Alexandra

  21. I make a weekly to-do list, a monthly goals list, and a few overall resolutions for the year (at least, that's how I did it this year). And for me, the system works!

  22. When I was blogging regularly I stuck with monthly goals and I kept it capped at like 5. This made is more likely that I would actually accomplish the goal. I also made one set of yearly goals. These are more in-depth than the monthly ones and are ones that I know are going to take longer to accomplish than just the monthly ones.

It worked really well for me. Ya know, until I stopped blogging over the summer. Womp womp! Good luck with these goals though! There are several on here that I should try and accomplish too!

  23. I totally can’t blame you with being grinchy. I think i’d totally be the same because I hate the cold!

  24. Ive been so bad with goals - I just feel like the year keeps slipping away. I fully support your operation get happy - I’m always here for you if you need to talk!

  25. I have never been good at getting Christmas presents early. Like ever. I'm always more of the last minute kind of gal. I am so not good at writing down or keeping goals -- I have tried to get better at keeping a small to-do list and maybe will work up to the goals? We'll see. Good luck lady!
