February 2017 - Birthday Month! - What's New With You Link Up

Time for another What's New With You link up with Gretch & I! Lets get to it shall we? No real rules, all we ask is that you link back to us somewhere in your post - easy peasy. I'll be doing another monthly recap, February was birthday month, the big 30.

What's New With You

So. Birthday month! I turned 30. Big deal. High five. It was a good month. I didn't 'treat myself' like last year, though I still did some fun things.

I went to dinner & drinks with my girlfriends. I was home before midnight, totally fine with 30 year old me.

Went running the next day and then out to brunch with KC. Followed up by a nap. I rarely take naps anymore, they screw with my sleep that night and also I feel like I'm wasting time I could be doing stuff, like reading or netflix watching. But it was a good birthday nap.

Got my hair done.

I might be biased because she's my best friend, but I think she's amazing. Always makes me feel pretty.

We saw several houses. We even put in an offer on one - we didn't get it, thankfully, because afterwards we were like.... eh. The market is so crazy right now that houses are just flying and it's easy to get swept up and say yes to the first thing in the area and budget we want.

There was this little carpeted shelf in one of the houses that I'm sure other people would put other stuff on, but we were like the cats would love that. KC broke the blinds in that house. Fun times.

I know this is 'February's recap' but an update on the house hunt is that we saw a house yesterday that is in a location we didn't even bother looking in because we knew we couldn't afford it, it needs a bit of updating but mostly cosmetic, is bigger than we could have hoped for and has everything we want, great bones, great neighbourhood, everything. We put in an offer last night, we wouldn't be closing for 45 days or so, and who knows if the offer will be accepted, we can only wait and see. We just loved it, truly. Fingers crossed! I'm ready to get out of the basement and have some natural light in my life again.

We saw that sun room and were both like the cats would love this.

Speaking of the cats, we cut a mat out of Millie's hair and we cut her. I cried. She gave zero shits. She didn't bleed or anything. This is just her normal resting bitch face.

  2. I love your hair! It's so pretty (and so long). I'm with you on the naps things -- I feel like they are such a waste of time, but alas, once every now & again I'll take one anyways. Fingers crossed for the house you guys really loved!! I hope it works out for y'all. Millie's RBF is my new favorite thing ever. Lol. xo

  10. Yay for birthday month!!! Millie's bitch face is too funny. She must be preserving her youth and not wanting wrinkles haha. Best wishes on the house. If it's meant to be, you guys will get it. If not, that means something better is out there waiting for you to discover it.

  11. Oh how exciting! I hope the offer is accepted and everything works out for you guys! I love how you see a space and think about your cats! They are your babies you absolutely should! Sorry she was cut how traumatic for you! At least she didn't let it affect her love for you...

  12. I wish I had a sun room for my kitty, she would love that. For now she'll just have to settle for that patch of sunlight that hits her bed every morning (or at least every morning that it is sunny! Not so much in the winter).

Fingers crossed that your offer gets accepted!

  13. Oh Millie! LOL, that RBF is pretty funny. The house news is very exciting!! My fingers and toes are crossed for you. And I'm glad you had a very responsible but fun birthday month! You deserve it after such a rough start to the year. Hope things are continuing to look up!

  14. Happy Birthday! Miracle of miracles I made it past midnight (and that was probably the only time I was out that late the whole year, lol). So exciting about house hunting... would love to read more about it- such a daunting process that is definitely on the horizon in the next year for me!

  15. So glad you had a great birthday! Your hair looks amazing too btw! And I seriously laughed about you and KC looking at houses and thinking "the cats would love this" so cute! I really really hope you guys get the house you put an offer in for last night, you deserve it!! <3, Pamela Sequins & Sea Breezes

  16. Happy Belated Birthday!! My husband turns 30 this month :)
That brunch pic is making my tummy growl...
Good luck with the house!! That can be so nerve wracking. We were getting ready to jump back into the house-hunting world again but then made a different purchase.
I cut Enzo's nails to close once and he bled and I cried. Of course he didn't care at all and didn't even flinch.

  20. Happy Belated Birthday!

Millie's face is how I feel when people talk to me before coffee. Or tell me something is urgent, but then leave work before it's solved. Can't be that urgent if you're running out of here at 459PM.

Fingers crossed & sending good vibes for that house. I hope it's all yours with no hiccups! Natural light & a yard will be perfect as the weather gets nicer, plus you could totes move before it's a million degrees outside!

  21. Oh my god. Dying over Millie! What! That's crazy. :P Happy Belated Bday! I'm totally fine being home before midnight. ha. The house sounds great, crossing my fingers for you. I also would walk around thinking "the cats would like that" - or destroy it. Depending on. XO - Alexandra

  22. HAHAHAH I can't stop looking at Mille's face!

The housing market is so ridiculous here that it's ridonkulous. A friend put his house up for sale and in ONE HOUR, he had 5 offers. ONE HOUR! bidding war ensued, obviously. I think the only way to make a profit in today's housing market is to sell and then move into a cardboard box.

  23. Your commentary about how the cats would love the houses made me laugh out loud. Oh, the things we do for our pets!

  24. Happy Happy birthday month! Buying a house sucks and is so stressful. I hope that offer gets accepted!!

  25. Happy Birthday girl!!! I hope your offer gets accepted. You deserve all the happiness and joy in the world. That sun room is so fantastic. I'm very rarely out after midnight these days and whenever I am I'm like I can stay up this late still. hahaha

  26. Phil is super stoic as well. He never yips or cries when something hurts him. Just takes it all. It's crazy to me.

  27. Good luck with the continued house search! All of that birthday deliciousness looks amazing :)

  28. Fingers crossed for the house. That sun room is the first thing I noticed too! That would be my reading room - every day. I love you are finding things in a house the cats would love. Such a good cat mommy :)
Me & you both on naps. They soooo screw me up for night time sleeping!

  29. Good luck on getting your offer accepted!! And this sounds like a fun birthday month! Your hair looks awesome:)

  30. Happy Late Birthday :) Keeping my fingers crossed for you guys that you get the house!

  31. Looks like some fun and delicious birthday celebrations to me!!! :-)
I love that you are always thinking about what the cats would like when you look for a new house to buy. I am the same way with my dog. In our new house the fenced yard and no stairs were both in the "good-for-the-dog" bonus column.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Good luck on the house!!! And happy 30th!! I took a birthday nap too :)

    ReplyDelete
  33. Crossing my fingers for your new house! A sun room is perfect for the kitties :)

    ReplyDelete
  34. I actually don't remember the last time I was out past midnight lol. Welcome to the 30s! I love it here, and I hope you do too! Good luck on the house- fingers crossed for you guys!

  35. Hahaha, I love that you think of your cats while house shopping! Before I even read what you wrote, I was thinking, "her cats would like that weird shelf on the staircase" LOL. Happy belated birthday!! Good luck with the offer on the house! xo

    ReplyDelete
  36. Happy late birthday! My 30th birthday is this year, too. Haha my cats would love that little carpeted area, too. It's a weird spot but perfect for them. A sun room would be amazing! I hope you guys get the house. If not, I hope you find one that is right for you. Lmao Millie's resting bitch face.

  37. Happy belated birthday! I think every year you mention your birthday and then I think, "Huh, I'll be turning [whatever age it is that year] later this year." How's 30? A couple years ago the idea that I'd be 30 soon was super weird, but the closer I get the less it seems to matter. Good luck with the house hunting! Are you getting tired of your current situation? How is life? I feel like we haven't talked in forever!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I don't think I wished you a happy birthday anywhere so HAPPY (belated) BIRTHDAY! I'll cross my fingers for y'all about the house!

    ReplyDelete
  39. GAH 30! Its so exciting and terrifying at the same time. I ALWAYS think of 13 going on 30 when I think about turning 30. "Thirty, Flirty and Thriving!" I'll be joining you next year! lol

Good luck with the house hunting! I remember when my best friend and her fiance were doing it last summer. It was a pain! Fingers crossed on this latest bid!

Also when I got my new car the first thing I thought about was the fact that the cats would have so much more room to move around in when I travel with them. lol It was one of the things I was most exited about, so I totally feel ya on thinking about how they'll react/move about anything new!

  40. Happy belated! Your hair looks great! Enjoy your 30's! They have treated me pretty well so far!

  41. Woo, 30! I'm glad you found a few ways to make your day special :)

I haven't had my hair cut in over a year. I AM trying to grow it out, but I want someone to give me a good blowout and make it pretty. I should probably just go and get a blowout and no cut, but I feel silly unless there's a good reason. Aanyway. Your hair looks beautiful.

Good luck with the house hunt! Fingers crossed on the one you saw last night.

  42. Your hair looks fabulous, and all that birthday food looks delish! Fingers crossed on the house gurlie! Happy Friday Eve <3

  43. Happy Belated Birthday!! My sister turns 30 this year. We're planning a trip, which will be fun. I'm excited to get away, even if it won't happen until the fall probably.

I'm 27 in May but I don't think I'll do too much. I feel like an old lady half the time. I went to the drive-in theaters last year, which was fun!

  44. So did we get you in a trade for Erin? Like an exchange program or something?

    ReplyDelete
  45. I almost never want to move again because the house search process is so stressful! Sun rooms are the best! Crossing my fingers that the cats will be able to move in and soak up some sun. Millie is a bad-ass. Also, happy belated birthday!!

  46. happy belated birthday! i hope, i hope, i hope you get that house. if it's something you love, if you can see such potential in it and it makes your heart happy, that's exactly the kind of owner a house needs, right? good luck. and what an awesome birthday present that would be...

  59. HA! I love that you guys consider what your cats will like about houses when you look at them! Though I can't judge because we were looking for a house with a decent sized backyard for a dog that we didn't even have yet at the time. ;) Here's to hoping the offer on the second house works out!!

    Happy (belated) birthday month!!

  60. OMG Millie's face!!! Priceless!! Your hair looks SO pretty!!
