Stuff you don't need to know about me.

Inspired by Steph & Jana. Random little tidbits about me.

  • I don't like making eye contact. I can do it briefly, but I won't do it for very long.
  • I change people's names when I read. The earliest example I can think of is in the BSC, Claudia's sister is Janine and I called her Janie in my head for years until I read aloud for my uncle and he corrected me. The girl with the dragon tattoo - those characters became Liz (Lisbeth) and Mike (Mikael). I don't do it on purpose exactly, it's just like my brain sees a sentence and shortens it or eliminates the unnecessary.
  • I will most likely finish your sentence if you are talking to me. It's partly because I'm a fast talker and I assume everyone else is so you must be stumbling and I will help you along by supplying the word I think you need - and partly because I'm rude.
  • I have an absolutely shocking memory when it comes to books, movies or TV shows. Even if it's something I've watched/read multiple times. The thing is, when I'm re-reading or re-watching, it comes back to me. I can quote P&P or Beauty & the Beast when they are on, but if you asked me to quote either on my own without it playing in the background? Nothing, nada, zilch. I couldn't even tell you the exact wording of the first line of P&P with complete confidence.
  • I get into bed with socks on and take them off immediately. Every night.
  • I drank too much in Texas during my first trip to the US and think I gave myself alcohol poisoning. It's a long story but we were given a huge jumbo bucket of twizzlers from some random guy at a campsite, and someone had the bright idea to tip all the twizzlers out and let me use it as a vomit bucket. The smell of twizzlers is what made me vomit (and, okay, the alcohol), and to this day I can't handle the smell of them.
  • I would just like to point out that I drank too much because we have very strict laws on how much alcohol goes into a drink - 30ml. You are allowed to get doubles most places, which is 60ml (duh) but that's it. So, I come to America and order doubles because that's what I always order and next thing you know I'm dancing on the bar. The straight pouring/counting instead of measuring threw me. Also, because I knew nothing about tipping or American money, I over tipped and I think the bartender was rewarding my stupidity.
Moving on.
  • KC and I have separate bedding. Like it's two single beds instead of one king. I toss and turn too much, and I hate sheets (I end up wrapped like a mummy), and he is always too hot. So he has a blanket and a sheet and I have 5 blankets and no sheets. It took us like 2 years to try this and I swear it's like the best thing we ever did for our marriage.
  • I don't like cold water. I like room temperature water. To drink, I mean. In a bath, I like hot hot hot.
  • The epilogue is my absolute hands down favourite part of a book. If a book has an epilogue, I instantly like it more. I've never met an epilogue I didn't love.
  • If I read a book that is also a movie or tv show, I will watch it immediately after finishing the book, even if I didn't love the book. I'm weirdly obsessive about it. Must watch immediately. I just finished a book last month and I still haven't watched the movie because the book hurt my brain.

Also, I just wanted to share that Erin gifted me a pair of LuLaRoe leggings. I am obsessed.  They really are crazy comfy. Thanks Erin!

You'll have to excuse the we-currently-live-in-a-basement-mess in the background.

  1. those LLR leggings -- are they drifit material? or cotton? can someone my age even pull those off?!

i also have a separate blanket from my husband. He uses a down comforter ALL YEAR, even during the summer (wtf) but I run hot and can't sleep properly when I get hot so I have a think blanket while he's wrapped up like a burrito 12 months of the year.

  2. There was this one night I made poor choices and we kept doing 4 horseman shots. I was an absolute shitshow. To this day, the smell of tequila makes me gag.. To actually ingest it? Yeah, watch out for the spew. I once tried someones margarita not realizing what it was (I don't know how or how I didn't smell the tequila) but it definitely got spit out into an empty cup. Nope, nope, nope.

  3. I love the epilogue too! Also one of my favorite parts in movies is when they show the what-happened-next during the credits or something - You know? I like to see that they really DID live happily ever after.
I'm the same that I really like watching the movie after I read the book, even if I didn't really like the book. The only one I haven't watched yet is The Light Between Oceans though... It's just too too sad!

  4. I feel like our relationship would be a million times better if we could figure out our sleep situation! I sleep hot and need white noise - and he's the opposite. Haven't had a good nights sleep in 9 years! Ha! I still haven't jumped on the LLR leggings train but now thinking I should...

  5. OMG this list is too funny. That's actually a clever idea to use two twin sheets instead of one, though! I like to be wrapped like a mummy and that makes it a bit difficult for my husband to get his share of the sheets. LOL.

  6. heheh this is awesome. I'm glad you are enjoying the LLR leggings! They are SO comfy. :) I kind of do that sentence finishing thing too.. hahahha Yes to all of that. I enjoy watching the movie or show of a book I have read, but often am not super on it. I didn't know that alcohol was measured strictly in Australia. Interesting. Sorry about the twizzler thing. : / XO - Alexandra

  7. I'm the opposite with the book turned into movies! I hate watching them, especially if I loved the book, because I feel like they can never do it justice. My Sisters Keeper scarred me... lol

  8. We have separate blankets too. It's very common in Germany! At first I hated it as I thought it seemed less romantic or something but it makes sense and helps us sleep better since I like several blankets and hubby is fine with just one. My memory is also shockingly bad when it comes to books and movies. Like someone will be in my house and ask me about one of my books and I can't even remember whether I enjoyed it or not! Unless I read it within the past few months

  9. I'm terrible at remembering quotes off the cuff. Except movies. I can carry entire conversations in movie quotes.

I like the idea of two twin beds. Solves the problem of liking different levels of mattress firmness, too.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Love this. Im the same with movies. I can recite mrs doubtfire, cincerella and 101 dalmations like nobodies business but ask me to recite it without it on. Nope cant.

You crack me up with the socks... mostly because I used to do that (because I sleep with my AC really cold) until i just decided to ditch the socks haha

    ReplyDelete
  11. Oh I find this lost very funny! And interesting in a not creepy way. The separate bedding idea is just genius if you're asking me. And now I feel the need to see what the opening sentence is in pride and prejudice....

    ReplyDelete
  12. OMG, half of these are me too! I absolutely do not do eye contact, I ALWAYS make up names for characters in books, and I love my showers/baths as hot as they can be. And those leggings! Too cute!

    ReplyDelete
  13. I have often changes names while reading too- lol! I thought I was the only one who did that ;0

    ReplyDelete
  14. Love those leggings!

I will change character names in books in my head if they're hard for me to pronounce.

I will also supply words for people and interrupt.

Freaking GENIUS on the separate bedding. I swear next time we have to buy a bed we are doing the two twins and that shit is happening.

    ReplyDelete
  15. What a fun gift!!! They really are the softest leggings that exist.
OK - I'm so intrigued about the bed thing... so does a king size comforter cover 2 twins for the cleaned up bedspread look? & is it hard to change the sheets on 2 beds that are together? ... I need to know more. Ricky is such a blanket hoarder... & I do the same thing with sheets - I always say I must roll like an alligator all night long.

  16. The drunk in Texas story is amazing. I don't drink vodka because that's what I got most sick on in my younger days. Oops.
I change names in books, too. I pronounced Hermione & Sirius incorrectly in my head for the longest time. I read Levana's name in the Lunar Chronicles as Lavinia.
The hotel story about KC is my favorite ever. I laughed just reading the mention about it.
(Erin sent me some leggings, too! She's the best!!!! <3 )

    ReplyDelete
  17. Are you secretly German?! Having separate covers is really common there (and in Austria) - most hotel rooms provide two duvets. Also, a lot of people have two single mattresses in a double bed frame, so they can each choose their mattress hardness. I hate it because then there's a line down the middle of the bed (and guess who always ends up lying in it?)

    ReplyDelete
  18. I laughed at the socks in bed thing, I do the exact same thing, every night.
I feel you on the twizzlers. Sense of smell is more powerful than people realize. I had one really bad night in college with Bicardi O (orange flavored) and I still make a face even just smelling orange juice. It's been 14 years.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I have certain foods that I can no longer eat because of alcohol as well. The smell instantly takes me back to a horrible moment.

I'm with you on the whole sheet thing. I'd much rather just have a blanket over me and not worry about sheets because they just get tangled and in the way!

  20. Chris and I always joke that the time we visited our friends in San Diego and slept on twin sized beds was the best night of sleep we've ever had because we weren't sharing the bed with each other! That's a bummer that you can't eat Twizzlers now because of your time in Texas! Hopefully you can make another trip back and make new memories there! And epilogues really are the best! I love seeing how everybody ends up!

    ReplyDelete
  21. I'm the same way with books, but probably worse. Most books, even if I LOVE them, I forget the plot completely after a while. Sometimes even reading the description I'm like, "What happens in this book? Why can't I remember?" Haha. But if I started reading it again I'd remember. Annnd I talk in my sleep too! I've never not been able to eat a food again because I threw up after eating it (whether for sickness or alcohol). I have a friend who won't eat SO many things because she used to get sick all the time (not from drinking--when she was a kid). BUT I won't drink Malibu (or other coconut rum) anymore because I drank WAY too much of that at the beginning of my drinking 'career.' Hahaha.

    ReplyDelete
  22. The separate bedding thing is big in Scandinavia, too, as well as Germany and Austria. They all seem very efficient people so I reckon they're on to a good thing. I am definitely a person who needs space when sleeping, so maybe this is the way forwards for me, too! Although whenever we've tried the two duvet thing in Germany somehow I always end up with no duvet in the middle of the night. I have no clue how.

Those leggings are EPIC. I've just invested in some tall person leggings and slobby trousers and I love them, but the pattern isn't nearly as awesome as yours. Yours look nice and long, too!

    ReplyDelete
  23. As an introvert, I weirdly look people in the eyes for probably too long. :D I actually think I would have the same problem where I can quote lines with the movie in the background but brain fart without it. I love a good epilogue too. Sometimes I get cranky when there isn't one, especially if it feels like there should be one. Those LLR leggings are adorable. I need to get into better shape before I can pull those off though. Motivation, right?

    ReplyDelete
  24. SAME with room temp water and also with epilogues!! And you poor thing..I can totally see how alcohol here would be confusing, because no bartender EVER pours the same! I didn't know it wasn't like that everywhere!

    ReplyDelete
  25. I totally make up my own names for books if I cant pronounce them, find them annoying or they are too long too!!! I have been sleeping out in the living room with Zoe since we brought her home...and I was sleeping out there the last few months of my pregnancy too because our bed was too high for me to get my fat pregnant ass in. I dont know what we will do when I go back to our room. I think Chris likes that big bed and all the covers to himself now haha.

  26. I have a freakishly good memory in general and sometimes I pretend like I don't because it gets weird. I kind of agree on the eye contact thing too. Cute leggings. I can't get on that Lularoe bandwagon, I just don't think I can do that much pattern at my old age lol

    ReplyDelete
  27. Oh man your alcohol story is both scary and funny at the same time! I make up names if I don't like them in books as well! It might be sort of normal at least that's what I'm telling myself!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Ahh I do the name thing too sometimes! In one of the books I read last month there was a character Bryte that I pronounced Bur-tee, for whatever reason. I was listening to part of it and it was actually pronounced Bright-- but even when I went back to reading it instead of listening I couldn't bright myself to call her Bright when I read her name. I'm also with you on room temperature water- I hate when it's too cold. Your twizzlers story makes me so sad, haha, they are my favorite but I can see how that would ruin you for life! Those leggings are SO fun and they look so comfortable!

    1. *bring (which I just typed as bright AGAIN... lol)

  29. I can only drink room temp water and Mark can only drink it ice cold. Our ice maker inside of our fridge just recently died and he is a very sad man. I cracked up over your separate sheets story. I can totally see that.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I won a pair of LLR leggings last summer, and they really are so comfy! The KC sleepwalking story is still one of my favorites. I love epilogues too. Hot baths are the best. :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. Those leggings are so cute! I'm weird about eye contact, too. And, socks. I wear socks around the house, but as soon as I get into bed, it's like my feet can't breath.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Yes! 100x yes to the eye contact & finishing sentences. I do that all the time & one of my friends gets pissed off at me. He's always like WHY DO YOU ALWAYS DO THAT?! YOU ALWAYS CUT ME OFF! No I'm just getting to the punch faster...catch up.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I finish people's sentences too, and I hate that I do! I wish I could stop, but I don't even realize I'm doing it until it's too late! I also only like room temperature water. The "coldest" I can handle is whatever comes out of our fridge. It's not exactly cold, but it's not exactly room temp either. Tell me more about this bed situation. Are they two twin beds pushed together? Or do you legit have two separate beds? I'm totally intrigued because we suffer from some of the same issues!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Neil and I are in the same bed but we use separate blankets. I like something heavier, but I want my feet to hang out. He wants something lighter and wants it tucked in.
I have a terrible memory with quotes too.
Texas bartenders do enjoy over-pouring. When I moved here, I was baffled by the lack of alcohol that I received in a drink, especially for the price I was paying for the drink. And, yes, if you tip your bartenders well, you get stiffer drinks.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I love these posts - they are too fun! Yay for getting Lularoe leggings. They are just the best. So incredibly soft. I can't quote a whole movie, but yeah, I do pretty well with certain movies/shows when it's on. If it's not on? Probably won't remember a thing either!

  36. I'm so behind on the Lularoe thing. I love leggings, but I'm so confused about how it works??? Also, I interrupt people all the time and my best friends all do it to each other so when we are around other people - we have to be soooo careful. And epilogues are my FAVORITE.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Um so you NEED to send me a photo of how you make your bed because now I am totally intrigued. Do you have a queen/king sized mattress and then just tuck the different blankets in each side or what?

Jesse and I both somehow have the same bedding preferences but I am THIS CLOSE to buying all california king (or at least king) sized bedding because he is a major blanket hog and I always end up with nothing when it's cold :P

    ReplyDelete
  38. My husband and I need to try getting our own blankets... except then he'd say he wants to use his Woobie from the Army and that is a no go! Haha

    ReplyDelete
  39. Too, too funny! I struggle big time with eye contact too though for me it stems from anxiety and my introverted nature. I also finish people's sentences too for the same reasons - talk too fast and I'm kinda rude lol. I have tons of Lularoe. Love it.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I do the same thing with socks in bed. I have to wear them to get into bed but then they always come off pretty quickly. And my husband and I do the same thing with the blankets! I am always cold and want at least two blankets where he is fine with the sheets. It makes snuggling hard, but it is so much better for sleeping!

    ReplyDelete
  41. I love to finish people's sentences! Hahaha. You and I will be hilarious talkers whenever we meet in person. Ew, Twizzlers. I don't even need alcohol to find them revolting.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Ha! I remember KC's sleep walking incident. Too funny! Aren't LLR leggings the best? So soft it feels like you're wearing nothing. I'm with ya on hating Twizzlers even though it's not alcohol related.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I like my water with more ice than water. Ha! I will drink room temp water but it's definitely not my favorite. Cute leggings!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Ha, this is a great post! I don't like making eye contact either. I do the same with sock at bedtime too...but for YEARS I always had to have socks on when I slept, but I hated when my pyjama pants would ride up my leg so I used to tuck my pants into my socks while I slept LOL. Thank goodness I grew out of that habit! ;) I LOVE epilogues too. All books should have them!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Okay...
Room temp water? Hells yeah. Me too. I even order water without ice at restaurants which usually also gets me an odd look or two.

Tell me more about this bed situation. Is it truly just two twins shoved side by side? And then you have totally different blanket situations? Cause I'm a total blanket hog (or so I've been told) & also prefer 17 blankets, even in the summer. Can it still work like a normal bed if you want to snuggle?

I too have quite the memory when it comes to books // movies - I accidentally read the same MEH book 3 times, because I kept seeing the cover, thinking it was cute, and checking it out from the library. Only to realize it was sort of familiar but I couldn't remember what was going to happen so I had to keep reading. THREE TIMES. Movies, I'm a little better. But TV shows? Nope. Go ahead, tell me the spoilers. I will absolutely forget, today. Haha.

Fast talker, interrupter, and sentence finisher extraordinaire over here. Between the two of us probably no one else could get a word in.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I absolutely love this prompt. It's funny you say that about the reading/changing people's names, I've done that. Or if the characters name is that of someone I know, that's instantly who it becomes! Lol!

    ReplyDelete
  47. LOL, I'm so glad to come across this post, because I was JUST thinking about doing a similar one! YESSSS now I can! You and I are soooo similar, lol. I also don't like making eye contact, but force myself to so I don't come across as a snob. Completing other peoples sentences is something I do ALL the time -- can I join the rude party? And I cannot quote back movies or books if asked. But if I'm watching the movie or reading the book, yup, I sure can.

I definitely need to try the separate bedding with Amir. He tosses and turns so much that I have to sometimes wake him up to ask him to calm the eff down! xo

    ReplyDelete
  48. Ahhhh, I finish people's sentences all the time and it even annoys me! But dang, why are they talking or thinking so slow? Like I already know where you're going with this, can you move it along please? Mmmmk, thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Love this post! I can make eye contact, but I feel so awkward if it's for a long time. I just want to look away. I'm also pretty awesome at quoting things. :)

    ReplyDelete
  50. What a fab idea for a post I like this, and the getting into beds with socks on and then taking them off idea is fab. I have no idea why I didn't figure out you could do this for myself, but now i know what to do when it's too hot for socks on all night so I keep them off but my feet turn to ice when I take them off before getting into bed! You are like a life saver!

    ReplyDelete
  51. I totally change people's names when I read too! I distinctly remember changing Hermione's name for n Harry Potter!

    ReplyDelete
  52. You & I are soo much alike! So many of these I connect with, including the eye contact thing. I hate it. It makes me extremely uncomfortable. And LuLaRoe leggings are amaaaazing.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I'm so bad about finishing people's sentences too! I try not to be because I don't want people to think I'm rushing them, but it just happens. I've gotten better about it, but it definitely still happens sometimes.

Also, I'm glad you survived the possible alcohol poisoning incident! Yikes!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Aaron and I each sleep with our own separate blanket! No way we can share, it just didn't work out...we learned that real quick ;)

    ReplyDelete
  55. I have yet to try any LulaRoe leggings and I am too afraid to ask to get invited to a party. I feel like that would open a door I am not ready for lol. I hate making eye contact. Sometimes after doing it too long, I start thinking about it and then wonder which eye to focus on and probably look all crazy. I have the worst memory with books and movies, too. Greg always brings up certain parts of the plot in movies, and I'm like, "Nope, I have no memory of that." Greg and I have one shared blanket, but then I have an extra one on top of me. Because I'm always freezing cold and he burns up.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Are we the same person?! I do the same thing with names and remembering books and movies. The only movies I can quote without watching them are Pitch Perfect and Mean Girls. No others.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Glad to read these--I thought they were funny and had me shouting ME TOO at many of them. The idea of the separate bedding is genius! I don't think I've ever heard of a couple that shared the same heat preferences, if that makes sense at all!
