Happy Thursday everyone. I am still pretty much all over the place when it comes to blogging, so I thought a stuff & things with Kristin & Joey would be perfect today.
We finally installed a water cooler at work. I've been there 3 years this month and it's something I've been pushing for, my office goes through so many water bottles (not me! I swear!) so this is awesome. Sure, we won't save the environment on our own, but at least we aren't contributing as much.
Watched No Tomorrow on Netflix. Liked it very much. Highly recommend.
I've never had a problem with listening to non fiction before - normally it's the only way I can 'read' it. But I was struggling with Intuitive Eating and finally gave up and returned it to audible. I kept tuning out and wasn't retaining any of it. I put in a request from the library so maybe this will be the first time I actually read a non fiction book instead of listening. We'll see.
I am *this* close to paying off my last big card. My goal was to get it done before 30, which has come and gone, so I'm trying at least to get it paid off in the same month.

I think there was a bit of confusion in my last post about our bedding - we have one bed, with separate bedding. Not two separate beds. In all its pretty pinterest perfect current living in a basement glory:
I would say it's not normally that messy but it totally is. I cannot wait till we are in a new house and have a proper bed and the mattress isn't on the floor anymore.

Speaking of new houses, we are officially house hunting. Kind of. There is nothing out there right now. I don't want to talk about it.
Good news though, we booked our New Zealand hotels - I had kind of paused on booking/planning that trip with everything going on, but figured I could at least get NZ sorted. I ended up saving 40% on what I had estimated because the hotels were having a huge sale. Now we just have to book tours and such, and that's NZ done. Australia is pretty much getting zero planning or booking right now until we get closer. Too much up in the air.
So. That's about it from me. What's going on with you?

I love the idea of separate bedding but man how do you make the bed? Now I know. ;) yay for saving 40%! That is so great! Hope things are getting better for your situation and you can have a nice trip back home.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe your work didn't have a water cooler! That's always been a big thing at my work (we're pretty green though so I guess it makes sense). We actually just got a new one that fills up your water bottles which I love! There are lots of houses available in Pittsburgh right now, just sayin ;)
ReplyDeleteIt feels good to check things off your list, even if it's just the hotels portion. (But especially when you save so much!)
ReplyDeleteOur bed was on the ground for the first 2/3 of our marriage, lol. Now it's crazy high off the ground and one of the dogs struggles to get up sometimes. Whoops.
40% off is incredible! And separate bedding sounds so good in theory but it seems like double washing and is it hard to remake the bed or is it all one fitted sheet? So many questions, Kristen. Bet you didn't realize how sharing this was going to get us all curious!
ReplyDeletelol i didnt think you slept in separate beds but it made me laugh. and it's kinda brilliant. and YAY for saving all the money for the NZ trip too. and sending all the good vibes for house hunting. girl, it ain't easy.

Oh fun! I kind of want to watch this movie. heheh next time KC is out maybe. :P I feel ya. Living with my inlaws is slow going as far as settling. We aren't in the basement.. but it's still kind of crazy. We keep doing a few boxes every few days. Hoping to continue and possibly finish this weekend! We've got people coming over on March 12... so we'll need to be ready! ha. Good luck with the house hunt. Sorry there's nothing much out there! I've taken the plunge to watch Miss Fisher's and KC and I are enjoying it a lot. Hugh is the cutest thing. Cracks me up. We're about 5 episodes into season 2. I am also freaking over the cutest baby things because now that my nephew is here I can buy so many cute little boy things. :) Awesome deal on the NZ hotels! We booked our NOLA flight/airbnb and I'm excited to have something to look forward to. Next up, planning flight and hotels for NYC. Hoping in 2018 to get out of the country. :) XO - Alexandra

Separate bedding sounds awesome although maybe not the extra laundry but my husband is always SO warm and I'm always freezing...

I love the idea of separate bedding, but I couldn't figure out how I would make the bed so I gave up on it.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet deal on those NZ rooms! We are waiting until black friday to book our honeymoon so we can get a good deal. It's killing me because I'm ready to have a trip to look forward to.
ReplyDeleteHouse hunting is the worst. Have you considered building??? I'm obviously biased, buttttt if the price isn't that different/you're picky AF like me, it might be worth it. I know that means more time with the in-laws buttt you know you'd get what you want.
Your bed gives me flashbacks of Germany. Teh German LOVED being back in Germany and not sharing blankets with me (because he likes to be a human burrito), but I hated not being able to touch him. I'm so sleep codependent, lol.
Spring is always a good time to house hunt. Good luck on that.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the visual of the bed :) I hope I wasnt the only one confused but thoroughly interested in it :)
I had really good luck listening to one of Malcolm Gladwell's books, so I got Smarter Better Faster (another non-fiction) and I haaaate listening to it, like you said I just don't actually absorb any of it, which is weird because I think I'd like the content, so maybe a reading vs listening thing. We need the separate bedding too, I'm always accused of stealing all the covers haha. I'm sure you guys are anxious to start house huting and yay for booking your NZ hotels-- that trip will be here before you know it! I haven't heard of No Tomorrow but I definitely trust your recommendations. Which reminds me, have you watched Upstairs Downstairs (the newish version)?
ReplyDeleteWe do the separate bedding too! It makes sleeping together manageable haha. 40% off is awesome- congrats on booking! And on almost paying off your card. I know you've been working towards that for awhile now. Good luck house hunting- hope it gets better for you guys!
ReplyDeleteWhat's No Tomorrow about? I haven't heard of it, but I'm always looking for a new Netflix show. Your bedroom cracks me up, especially the cats. Ours looks the same at the moment (okay, most of the time) with Finn just casually lounging around. Hooray for NZ hotels and saving money!
ReplyDeleteI finished No Tomorrow a couple weeks ago and thought it was so cute!! I hope it get's renewed but I haven't heard yet!! Huge congrats on being so close to paying your CC off - that's amazing! xo, Biana
ReplyDeleteCongrats on being so close with the card! Don't let yourself be discouraged about not getting it done before 30—not that you sound discouraged, but just in case. 30 was a made-up date, but the pay-off is a real and important goal so let the fact that it's SO CLOSE keep you motivated. Yay!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear the housing market isn't in your favor right now. Fingers crossed it turns around soon!
House hunting is so exciting! Good luck :):) We moved into our first house over 2 years ago and upgraded to a king bed about 6 months into being there. That king mattress also was on the floor until last Fall... So over a year. Whoops! I was so indecisive about the bed and I kept holding out for a good one!
ReplyDeleteHooray for a water cooler at work! Little things add up! I hope having the actual book in your hands will help with reading the intuitive eating book!
ReplyDeleteHouse hunting was like the worst time of my life so I don't envy you and I send you all the luck in the world for a speedy process.
ReplyDeleteI will find No Tomorrow on Netflix, I've been needing something so thanks :)
Congrats on getting ready to payoff another CC - that's huge a deal and accomplishment, no matter what age you are! :D Good luck with the house hunting. I'm sure the market will open up a bit when Spring gets a little closer. So glad you were able to score such great deals on your NZ hotels. More money for other fun things! Hope things are doing a bit better on the home front too.
ReplyDeleteThat's a bummer that there's not much on the market right now, but I think that means that the right house isn't out there for you right now. And hooray for getting stuff booked for your NZ trip and double hooray for finding hotels on sale! That's always the best!
ReplyDeleteWay to go on almost paying off your card - that's awesome!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with house hunting!! Such a fun time! I am a big fan of the water cooler at my office, too. We moved in April, and before that didn't have one, so I am definitely not taking it for granted ;)
ReplyDeleteMeg, Borrowed Heaven
I might skip out on that book if it couldn't keep your attention since we are the same when it comes to reading. Haven't heard of No Tomorrow but I will check it out when I finish my Jane the Virgin binge. I like that show way more than I thought I would. Yay for saving 40% that is awesome!!! House hunting is crazy everywhere right now. I think the market is really hot and interest rates are going up.
ReplyDeleteYay for New Zealand hotels and starting to house hunt! That's super exciting. A huge congrats for almost paying off your card-that's such a big deal!
ReplyDeleteIt's really hard to house hunt when there's no inventory. MFD is actually knocking on doors in neighborhoods clients want to be in asking people if they want to sell their houses right now. LOL Hang in there.
ReplyDeleteHurrah for a water cooler! I hate plastic bottle waste. MFD keeps wasting and it makes me seethe.
Yay house hunting. That stinks that there's nothing good out there. I am house stalking. We aren't ready to buy a house till we know where we'll be, but I still creep on Zillow all the time buying imaginary houses. Water coolers are amazing. I was too excited when I started my new job and saw the water cooler. I hated bringing a day full of water to work every day.
ReplyDeleteMy best friend has a similar house hunting frustration. They've been looking for years and nothing. I hope something comes your way soon.
ReplyDeleteI was almost in Australia when you guys are there. Then plane tickets became unaffordable again and I had to not go. Boo. But I cannot wait to see all your pictures. Of New Zealand, too!
ReplyDeleteHouse hunting is hit or miss. Once it warms up, you'll find more on the market. Promise.
I still can't get into any kind of audio books. My mind wanders!
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I went to New Zealand for our honeymoon and it was the best trip we've ever taken! I'm excited for you.
40% off is awesome! Ugh, I do not like house hunting, but a hope something wonderful opens up for you soon :)
ReplyDeleteAlways happy to get an update from you! Can I ask which Audible membership you have? Do you do just one a month or do you buy as you go? I am testing out the "one credit per month" option right now and not sure it's really worth it. It's just trick because some books are so long I can only listen to one a month, others are short and I end up "reading" a couple....
ReplyDelete40% off! Holy awesome! Way to go, friend. I know many people love audiobooks and while I try to enjoy them, I have a really hard time focusing. I tried to listen to one at the gym the other day but my brain was EVERYWHERE but listening. Hope you have a fabulous weekend! xo
ReplyDeleteAlways looking for a good Netflix recommendation. :)
ReplyDeleteIt has been YEARS since I've listened to an audio book. I planned to get one for my drive this weekend, but couldn't find them in the new library I've been going to & was short on time so I didn't bother to ask around.
YAY FOR GETTING NZ BOOKED! Can't wait to hear all the places you're going!
That's awesome savings on the NZ hotels!
ReplyDeleteYou do have something booked in Australia ~ you will see me :) Sure, we don't have exact dates & times, but that's okay.
The bedding thing. I gotcha. That's what I thought you meant, and that's our situation too.
Spring is the best time to house-hunt because it's the best time to list and it's when everyone seems to move (we always have in the spring). You'll find something sooner, rather than later!
ReplyDeleteLoved No Tomorrow.
I've definitely quit non-fiction audio before. Fiction too. I'm a big believer in that great-listen-guarantee.
The water at my work is more or less undrinkable. I haul in my own and it's painful. I take a 48 oz Nalgene and a 20 oz Camelbak and then have maybe another 20 oz in the car. EVERY day.
yay for booking your hotel! I swear that is the hardest part. we are trying to book one of our honeymoon hotels and are totally stalled.
ReplyDeleteAnddd Australian netflix fails again :P I don't think No Tomorrow is on ours yet. Womp womp!
ReplyDeleteYay for booking your hotel - and starting the house hunting journey. Exciting times! Hopefully something perfect pops up soon!
New Zealand is so high on our wish list. I can't wait to hear about your trip!!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on almost having that paid off..that is amazing! Get it giiiiirrrrrl.
ReplyDeleteYay to almost having your big debt almost fully paid off! We are going to start the painful process of house hunting and I already have a migraine thinking about it sometimes. Eeek can't wait to hear more about New Zealand, I'm already super jealous!
ReplyDeleteGo you on nearly having that last credit card paid off - you go girl! That's a huge accomplishment. We're finally paying Caleb's car off this month and we're onto our last school loan (it's a big one!) and it feels AMAZING! It took us longer than we wanted but I'm thankful we'll be debt free soon!!
ReplyDeleteDo you have a king mattress on top of the two box springs, or two twin mattresses? Separate bedding makes so much sense! My sister and her boyfriend used to just have two queen beds on the floor pushed together and they loved it lol. They've since "upgraded" to a king, since they don't have the room in their new apartment haha. Nice work on having only one card left to pay off!! What a great feeling that will be once it is! :)
ReplyDeleteit took us a while to find our house... i feel like house hunting around the holidays or during winter is always tough. hang in there! you will find something eventually! xo jillian - cornflake dreams
ReplyDeleteWe have separate bedding, kind of. My husband likes to have a sheet and then TWO flannel sheets and a down filled duvet, and I like a sheet and the duvet...so we share the duvet but he gets more sheets folded in half on his side. Haha. Where are you going in NZ?! It's on my destination list because my aunt and uncle live in Auckland and I have good friends in Christchurch!!
ReplyDeleteSeparate bedding? Too funny. I guess that would solve the arguments over who stole the covers all night! Yay for booking your NZ trip! That'll be so awesome! Congrats on the last big credit card pay off (I'm sure it's probably paid off by now since I'm way late to the post ;) Good luck house hunting! It can be so frustrating as you know from my experiences... but when the right one comes along, it'll all work out! I hope!
