So I thought I'd do a kind of highlights, if you will. Because I still like looking back on memories!
January
My mother in law turned 50 and we threw her a surprise party. It was awesome because we don't usually get to see that side of the family in the winter, and my mother in law had a great time.
Other things in January: finally got my new green card, which was a long time coming. KC and I started doing this every other Sunday thing where we made each other dinner, but that fizzled out in like February or March, I think. It was fun while it lasted!
February
I turned 29! Birthdays will always be highlights, right?
Other things in February: the best part about birthdays is that everyone makes time for you, so I got to see a lot of friends and family and get lots of presents. Also, cake.
March
St Paddys is always a good time, KC and I got back together around then in 2012 so we always try and do something together.
Other things in March: we got a new TV! That was pretty exciting.
April
Thunder over Louisville! This was awesome because KC and I rarely get out and do Louisville-y things, so I'm glad we did, and it was a super fun day.
Other things in April: ran a half marathon and it wasn't my best, but it was my mental best and it's always a good race. I'm already signed up for 2017.
May
Kenny Chesney! Seriously was like the highlight of my year.
Other things in May: Oaks, Mother's Day and my first s'more.
June
Cruise!
Other things in June: car accident - boo.
July
Not much happened in July, but we did go to a Luau birthday party which was a good time.
Other things in July: Chelsea scared the living daylights out of me by playing dead a little too well, and it still scares me when I see her laying and she doesn't move immediately.
August
Birthdays! KC's & my friend's. Lots of outings.
Other things in August: Got my driver's licence/permit which allowed me to get my LIBRARY CARD.
September
Trip with my mum! Tons of fun. Still haven't recapped. Oops.
Other things in September: I met the boy band of my childhood - Human Nature. It was also the longest KC and I had been away from each other since getting back together. It was weird! Also, I discovered Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries, possibly a close second to the highlight of my year after Kenny Chesney.
October
We decided to sell our house about 2 years earlier than we originally planned. It was a hectic month with lots of painting and decluttering and stuff. We listed the house at the end of October I believe, and received an offer the first day.
Other things in October: We bought a new bed (though we won't actually get it until we buy a new house). I ran another half marathon! We moved into my mother in law's basement - didn't want to have the cats at home while we were showing the house and stuff.
November
I ran another half marathon, this time in Richmond with Alyssa, Tracy & Lisa.
Other things in November: We handed over the keys at the end of November, though we didn't officially close until early December. Thanksgiving and stuff, obviously.
December
We officially closed on our house. KC and I aren't really pessimists exactly, but this whole process was ridiculously smooth, and we know so many people who have had issues selling, so we kept waiting for the other shoe to drop. It didn't!
Other things in December: well Christmas, obviously. Lots of bad food. NYE this weekend!
I've always said that each year has been better than the last since I was like 21 - which is awesome, and 2016 is probably the first that makes me think... welllllll. It wasn't bad, it definitely wasn't bad, and I am not saying that every year has to be better than the last, but it was a nice little thing I had going on. 2016 was so much more than these highlights obviously. There were lots of (super crappy) things that didn't happen to me exactly, but still had an impact on my year. There was a lot of stress and crappy things, but compared to other stressful and crappy things they weren't that bad. I'm not trying to complain, because all in all, it was a pretty great year.
But here's to 2017!
What was the highlight of your year?
I love all these yearly recaps, and I've loved getting to talk to you with all the a-hole bros. I can't wait to see what 2017 brings you. Maybe Trudeau will migrate down to the states so we can oogle him and his Prince Eric good looks from closer. :)
ReplyDeleteOooh fun! I love these highlights! Wow, your MIL is very young!! And what a busy busy end of the year with the move and sale of the house. Hope 2017 will be amazing for you!
ReplyDeleteI love that you documented your first s'mores. Haha. And I'm SO GLAD you discovered Miss Fisher's so you could push it on us/me ;) Haha!!
ReplyDeleteHighlights of my year were probably my brother's wedding, vacations with K, and spending time out with friends :) A pretty blah year- I agree with your thoughts on 2016!
A year holds so much stuff, doesnt it? Good & bad... love when good is overwhelming covering the bad.
ReplyDeleteCant wait to see your new house in 2017!!!
I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop for our house stuff too. And our relationship.. and well, everything. Why are we so jaded? lol
ReplyDeleteI agree about 2016 being a good personal year, but a horrible secular year. Nonetheless, 2016 is starting to feel like the vacation that went on for too long and 2017 is like going back to work, and back to the routines that you've missed.. or at least we'll see if that's the case!
so many great things! i cant believe you sold your house that fast but you guys worked hard and it all worked out :) and i am so looking forward to next year! and hello kenny chesney of course that was a highlight ;)

I love these posts because I am nosy. Loved seeing the highlights of your life this year. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great year and you got to celebrate something new each month. I've been dying to see Kenny Chesney and your trips sounds like a blast! Congrats on closing on your home! Such a relief and you're so lucky it went smoothly :)
ReplyDeleteI still can't believe how quickly you were able to sell your house, and that you managed to not have any bumps along the way! It sounds like even though it wasn't the most exciting of a year, you still had a lot of great memories in 2016!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see what 2017 brings you! Yay for library cards & closing on your house.
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely in the bumps-along-the-way-to-selling-our-house camp so it really is super great that it went so easily for you!
ReplyDeleteMy year was definitely not all highlights but it's nicer to focus on the highlights than the alternative...
Hope that 2017 brings you many good things!
Let's be honest, you could have just listed I GOT MY LIBRARY CARD and been done with this post. LOLOL
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a pretty good 2016, hope that 2017 is the same if not better! I cannot wait to see what the new year brings for everyone, I think there were some definite crap moments of 2016 that I'm ok with leaving in this year!
ReplyDeleteYou've had a great year!! I can't wait to see what 2017 has in store for you!
ReplyDeleteSooo crazy seeing a year recapped like this! What a good year! So many great memories.
ReplyDeleteHappy new year friend!! Kenny Chesney is on my bucket list I'm dying to see him, but not much can top a cruise either! Looks like you had an amazing year!!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you have a lot of really great highlights this year! Do you thousand 16 was really rough for me and even thinking about the highlights kind of makes me tired because I have to really think about them. However cheers to 2017 hopefully it'll be great for everyone!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a wonderful year, even if it didn't totally top previous years ;) Let's hope 2017 redeems itself for you by being even MORE amazing. I've been SO bad about keeping up in blog world, but that is crazy how fast you got an offer on your house! We go back and forth all the time about how soon we'll move and the idea of buying/selling at the same time terrifies me ha!
ReplyDeleteIt's so easy to forget how big and full of important things a year was until you pause and look back on it. What a year you had! 2016 was a jerk in a lot of ways but also really amazing for a lot of personal lives, from what I've observed. So glad we got to see each other and race together in 2016, and can't wait to get together in 2017 too! Happy and healthy new year wishes to you, KC, and the cats!
ReplyDeleteGosh you've had quite the year! So many big events! AND hold the phone, your MIL does NOT look 50 in those photos! Wow! So thankful the blog world brought us together, and I'm excited to see the next races and things life brings your way in the New Year!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun year! Kenny Chesney would be the highlight of my year for sure! :) Hope 2017 holds many wonderful things for you!
ReplyDeleteAw what a fun year! I turned 29 this year too! Woo for '87 babes! So jealous you saw Kenny Chesney! Cheers to another fabulous year in 2017!

You had a year full of fun and exciting things!!! And you closed out with selling your house! I hope 2017 brings you lots more fun memories and wonderful things!
ReplyDeleteYou never had a s'more before? Gah, those are so addicting to me! hah A highlight for me this year was going to London in September - which I also need to recap on my blog! hah It was such a blast and the first time I ever left the U.S. I was nervous about the long flight (I've flown, but never more than a few hours or so) but it went fairly well, even though I didn't sleep there or back. Just can't sleep on planes!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you had a pretty good year - sorry for the crappy things too! It definitely wasn't my best year either, but I like to MOSTLY focus on the good!
-Lauren
You've had a SUPERRR busy year! Congrats again on the house and all of that going smoothly (which is totally unheard of)!
ReplyDelete2016 was a busy and exciting year for you - I hope 2017 is even better!!
ReplyDeleteI still can't believe you couldn't have a library card until now. Best year ever just because of that!
ReplyDeleteLove seeing the highlights of your year! I can't wait to see what's ahead for 2017! I think it's going to be the best year yet!
ReplyDeleteYay looks like you had such a fun filled and productive year! I hope 2017 will be an even better year for you :) Happy new year!
ReplyDeleteIt's so fun to look back on highlights! Happy 2017!
ReplyDeleteYou have so much to look back on and smile about! So many good moments this year. I know they weren't all good, but that's typical of any year - right? Oh, Moss Fisher - how would we have survived 2016 without her? :)
ReplyDelete2016, overall, was a great year for you guys. hope 2017 is even better!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great year for you guys! So excited to see what 2017 has to bring you :)
ReplyDeleteYay I love yearly recaps, mostly because I am suuuuper nosy and also it's interesting to see life changes telescoped up really small. You did some really fun stuff! The cruise looked great, and thanks again for Miss Fisher (legend). I'm still amazed at how quickly you just got about the whole house selling thing, but I have to ask if you're still finding paint in your hair?!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I completely agree - a lot of stuff happened in the world that I was horrified about, but for me personally it was a pretty good year. We did a lot of cool stuff, but it did feel a lot like treading water though as we waited for the whole emigration thing to work itself out. Definitely not complaining on how that went in the end though! Here's to a MUCH IMPROVED 2017 :)
Totally random note: Kenney Chesney was in my dream last night. I forget in which context, but... that was weird.
ReplyDeleteI hope 2017 is a fantastic year for you!
So many good things this year! I mean I get it, it wasn't the best year (definitely feeling like I had a nice string of those too until this year), but I'm glad you had a bunch of highlights to help balance out the crappy things. I love that you got to go on that trip with your mom this year, and your cruise looked like so much fun! And yay for selling your house being such a breeze. I hope 2017 gets you back on the best year ever track :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for taking us along with you down memory lane of 2016! I can't believe how fast it flew by!! Cheers to an even better 2017!!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a great year! Thanks for sharing!

What a fun 2016! What day in February is your birthday? I'm the 24th :)
ReplyDeleteCiara @ Eat Run Love
That sounds like a pretty good year! My husband and I both celebrate birthdays in February.. the 6 and the 7th :) you?
ReplyDeleteI think your last quarter was packed with so much goodness and I'm so happy that you were able to sell your house and fast at that!! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston
ReplyDeleteSo much happiness in 2016! I hope that 2017 brings you just as much joy!
ReplyDeleteI love this little recap! I have a similar one in my drafts but now I'm wondering if it's too late to post it, and my thoughts are that NO, it isn't, it's my life :) What a great year for you! I hope 2017 is even better (and I'm sure for you, you are especially anticipating Australia!!!) :) Happy new year to you and KC!! PS - Maybe 2017 will include Miss Fisher's as a highlight for me - i'm still only a few episodes in ;)
ReplyDeleteI love your super honest #1 being Kenny Chesney and #2 being Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries. Keepin' it real. :) hehe It was a pretty good year for you. I totally understand what you mean though. Both 2015 and 2016 have been the first not as good years for me... and ick. I am kinda down on 2017... but trying not to be... because that's a terrible NY outlook. LOL Happy New Year friend! XO - Alexandra

This post does wonders for making me feel like I'm catching up on your life <3 I completely understand what you mean about the year being good but then like not so good. I feel like 2016 was this strange dichotomy of "pretty good" and "omg trash fire". Although new library card and a smooth house sale sounds pretty good to me!
ReplyDeleteI would say buying a house was the highlight of my year! Your mother in law is so young! Mine just turned 70 this year!
ReplyDeleteYou didn't have a s'more until MAY?? I mean, I don't even like s'mores but dang. My childhood was full of them! And I love that the second best highlight of the year was finding a good TV show :)
ReplyDeleteI definitely had an overall good year too. I'm truly trying to remember 2015 so I can compare the two, but I think overall 2016 was way better, and I'm thinking 2017 might top it, so looks like I'm about to start a streak of good years.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about negative things that didn't necessarily happen to you but affected you. I feel like the year was FULL of that stuff.
I love looking at all of these, what a fabulous, wonderful, well-balanced year you had!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a great year girl and I love round up posts like this. The whole house thing is very exciting!!! You definitely had a dream situation there :-)
ReplyDeletePretty big year with the big move and so much else going on for you guys! Love the pictures of your mother-in-law at her surprise party, she looks so happy!
ReplyDeleteWow! Your mother-in-law is so young! My mother-in-law was 29 when Christopher was born and my mom was 32 when I was born so our parents are all closer to 60s (my mom & father-in-law are both in their 60s and my mother-in-law turns 60 this year! My dad is the young one at 58 right now). Anyway, it's always interesting to me how some people my age have parents a full decade younger than mine. Okay, enough rambling on that now.
ReplyDeleteLooks like such a good year for you guys! I look forward to hearing all the wonderful things 2017 will bring your way (especially your trip home!). :)
A year for your first smore and first trip to the beach I'd say is pretty memorable! Haha! Love all the highlights. Looks like it's been a great year! I've enjoyed following along! Happy New Year!
