Posts I haven't published

I know technically Alyssa's challenge is over, but I know she won't mind if I am a bit late! I know this prompt is probably more for the posts I want to write but haven't hit publish on, but I am going to do a mixture of those kinds and ones I just haven't been bothered actually writing.

alyssagoesbang

This is like a weight off my chest because I was able to delete so many draft posts that would never grow up into real posts.

- Recipes from Australia: I am not sure what I was thinking when I started it. I don't know any recipes from Australia, I barely know any recipes in general.

- Ratatouille a la Kristen: I am not a food blogger, I have never shared a recipe, I am more of a 'throw it all in a pot and guess measurements and see what happens' kind of cook, and that doesn't translate well to sharing recipes. If you want me to share it, here you go: a bunch of veggies in a pot, tomato sauce and quinoa. Voila.

- Stop with the shaming: aka a huge rant about body shaming anyone, regardless of size. The thing is, it's all been said before, and nothing I share is going to make a body shamer stop shaming, or make them aware that their comments are, in fact, hurtful to some people. So, yeah. Deleted.

- How to make a good cuppa: I wrote this ages ago and it's supposed to be kind of funny, but it's probably only funny to me. I meant to take photos, never did, and it just sat there. It has lost its funny. I wrote it back in 2014, I shit you not.

- Planning a trip to Australia: Eh, I am the worst person to ask if you are going to visit and want to do touristy things. Nothing wrong with that, of course, but I haven't done a lot of touristy things and I don't stay in hotels or anything.

- Travelling to Australia; my tips: same as the above. I only know how an Australian acts, and as a tourist, you should act as a tourist. Why the bloody hell not. Who cares if you say put another shrimp on the barbie even though we don't have shrimp.. we do have barbies and someone will throw a snag on for ya.

- Go to meals: I wanted to share our go to meals, you know, we all have them, the same meals we make over and over.. But they weren't anything new or exciting - the same as everyone else's I'd imagine. Pasta, tacos, etc.

- Louisville vs Sydney: I don't know where I was going with this one, but I didn't get very far. Made a joke about how it wasn't like sports team vs sports team and didn't write anything else. But I did create this awesome picture.

- Aus vs US/moving back home: I have two drafts on this subject so clearly I thought it important enough to talk about.. but honestly, writing about why doesn't help make the decision, and doesn't create solutions to problems.

- What working at McDonalds taught me: Even I don't care about this post and I wrote it.

- How living in the US has changed me: Basically I eat and drink more. Not much more to it.

- Things I would miss if I ever moved back home: Basically, drive thrus and things being open all the time. Oh, and free refills. See above.

- Long distance taught me: eh, a boring post about our long distance relationship. Clearly it was an awesome relationship because we broke up ha.

- Bookish thoughts: another 'funny' book post, but I could only think of two things.

- How we saved time and money in Europe: eh, nothing mind blowing or new here, so no point in sharing.

- My budget/meal planning/grocery tips: Our grocery budget is allllllways more than I budget, our meal planning is like 'hey you want chick fil a for dinner?' so I am in no place to give tips.

- There is NOTHING wrong with loving yourself: we all know I used to hate myself, I talk about it all the time. I get so angry when I see or hear people talk shit about themselves - like every time I'm on snapchat someone is talking and they say 'sorry I look so gross/ugly/fat' and it's just like STOP. Stop hating on yourself because you think you have to, that you think if you rock no makeup someone will call you vain. Guess what, that ass is gonna call you vain anyway. And if you really believe that shit? Snap out of it! Love yourself for pete's sake, you only have one life and you spend the ENTIRE thing with yourself. Who would want to spend their lifetime with someone who hates them? STOP IT.

- Different book formats; my pros & cons: snoooooze fest, who cares.

- The things I say that get the most 'what the f*ck did you just say?': There are a few things that I still say from home that people always react to. Unfortunately, I couldn't remember many of them and some of them are hard to explain. The number one is how I pronounce the letter H.

- My bookish personality: I wrote this long ass post on things that will make me pick up a book, and things that will make me go 'ew I don't want to read that', but seriously. Boring.

- How I organise my books on goodreads: Again, pretty boring post about how I shelve my books on goodreads. People who are on goodreads can see it, and people who aren't don't care.

- A shopaholic loose in LA/Vegas: A post about everything I bought on my trip with my mum 2 months ago that I still haven't recapped. I bought a lot and I thought it would be fun to share like my old shopping posts. But. I haven't yet.

- A post about my mum and father, or just my father: The post about my mum and father is not my story to tell. As for the post just about my father and the consequences of being his daughter.. Honestly? I am not proud of who my father was, but I am proud of the person I have become in spite of having him for a father. Plus, there is no way to talk about what a horrible person he was without either going on a rant or sounding like I am inviting pity, which I am not. I think both were just therapeutic for me to write out and don't need to be shared.

Ahhhh feels so good to delete all those posts that will never be published. I now only have 52 drafts. How many do you have?

  1. I don't know, I think you have a few good posts out of these topics. I am the same way though, I have some things in draft that I thought were hilarious or brilliant like a year or two ago and they never saw the light of day and when I go back and read what I have so far now I am like....ummmmm wtf was I thinking??? Hahahaha.

  2. Some of those sound pretty interesting! I'm curious what your secrets are to making a good cuppa, haha. Also your go to meals since even though everyone probably cooks pasta with tomato sauce everyone would do it a little bit differently. I agree with what you are saving about how it's good to love yourself. I think it's so sad that so many people, women mainly, think they just aren't good enough the way they are and spend so much of their time feeling insecure and unhappy with themselves. I also get insecure, though not as bad as when I was younger, but I really try to just love myself and be happy with me. It's a good lesson to learn! I have loads of half written drafts too.

  3. "Love yourself for pete's sake, you only have one life and you spend the ENTIRE thing with yourself. Who would want to spend their lifetime with someone who hates them? STOP IT." - Someone needs to pinterest that RIGHT NOW, that is so good. Feel free to write that post :) Also no free refills in Australia? And please snapchat yourself saying some H words for us. I have very similar thoughts about a lot of my posts, like who cares? But I rarely think that about anyone else. We're our own harshest critics, for sure.

  4. I'm laughing at all your food-related posts. Most meal planning for us consists of the same thing. Take out? Okay! Dump this all in a pot? Okay! Lol. You know I always love your book posts! And yes to loving yourself - we both know where we stand on that. :)

  5. hmmm i think some of those posts would be pretty good! i haven't checked my drafts folder but i think most of the ones in ever published are about parenting and let's face it, parenting posts are boring AF.

  6. I actually like the Goodreads idea ;) I'm going to have to go check out your page now. I've never sorted anything on there.
USA - the land of gluttony.
You are my kinda cook. I love veggies, quinoa & olive oil in a pot ... add in black beans ;)

  7. A lot of these sound great! Especially the shopaholic loose in Vegas and how to save money in Europe, you know I'm all about anything travel related! And still love the pics of you when you were blonde! Happy Friday gurlie <3

  8. Omg I have 0 drafts! It's probably because I haven't blogged "regularly" in a long time! I bet it feels good to get those cleaned up!

    ReplyDelete
  9. I like reading these posts. I think I have 37 drafts? I need to go through those.

I know one is a rant about audio books and reading.

  10. I defo want to read your shopaholic post. I love seeing what other people buy! Just me??

I have some philosophical posts that I wrote sat in my drafts. One day I might publish them, but as more and more IRL people know about my blog (it's still about 3 but y'know, scary) I feel less inclined to be super open. Plus I don't want people to get offended by them. Anyway...

Amen to the bit about loving yourself. Why spend your life with someone who hates you?! I definitely realised that this year. And also that if you want to do something and you can do it, just DO IT. What are you waiting for?

  11. Ughhhhh I can't stand using recipes. I just throw all the crap in the pan, wing it with the seasonings and sauces, and voila. If it tastes good, yay, if it's just 'meh,' oh well. Haha.

The pronunciation of H threw me off so hard when I was in Australia!!! Haha.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Hahahaha. I love your commentary on all these. When I first started I posted a recipe here or there and then years later I went back and was like.... no, no, no. Hahaha. I think the GoodReads organization one sounds interesting, but you're right- I'll just go creep on your GR profile. I like the one about loving yourself and the one about weird things you still say, haha! Those could be great!
    52 drafts?? Dang, girl!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Oh I love this! There are just so many ideas out there that are way better in my head. A lot of these gave me a snicker though. Minus that last one.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I am so impressed that you have so many drafts! Haha. I actually had been working on one about how skinny shaming is a thing (after I was really mad that I had to get a 00 for a bridesmaid dress, which is not close to my normal size, so that others could feel better about themselves). I was worried it would come out wrong, so I scrapped it.

  15. I would read all of these things because I heart you something fierce (...insert our fav emoji of sassy, hair-flip girl)

  16. I can't believe that you have 52 drafts! I think that I have like 4 or 5, but I always feel like I'm not very good at sitting down and writing and getting things organized for future posts. I would really like to read some of your bookish posts! I think that they'd be fun, and one of the things that always interests me is how people organize their shelves on Goodreads! Even though I can see your shelves, I still would find it interesting!

  17. i'd love to learn more about australian food! my favorite thing about traveling is the food sooo yeah bring it on. xo jillian - cornflake dreams

  18. Since I'm also a food blogger, I like any post related to food. And I like all your posts comparing Australia and the US. But I also understand why a post just don't appeal to you anymore too. Sometimes I have the best idea (at least in my head) but when it comes time to write it - crickets. I have 15 drafts and best guess - at least 10 probably have one or two words written in them. LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  19. I had no idea drive thrus were a North American thing! Although, I think the US takes them to a whole other level. In Canada the only places that have drive thrus are fast food and some banks have an ATM drive thru but rumour has it south of the border you guys can even drive thru to pick up your groceries!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Wow, I can't believe you had drafts for so many posts! I think a lot of them would be fun to read - esp the WTF posts, haha.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I think you need to publish the full post about how it's not wrong to love yourself! I was nodding along as I read that summary! I have maybe 5 or 6 drafts... I need to go through and either delete them or publish them!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Well this was an interesting read! I DEFINITELY want to see what you bought in LA and Vegas, so don't delete that one yet! I've been reading more lately and thinking I should get back on GoodReads...maybe if you do that post it will motivate me. :)

    ReplyDelete
  23. hahaha @ 'want chick fil'a for dinner?', that's pretty much us too-- we do good staying on track for two weeks and then I'm just over it. But I totally think you should share the meals you make even if they are basic or simple or whatever-- those are the best kinds! Maybe I'm just really boring, but I think the pros and cons of book formats sounds really interesting, and now I'm really intrigued to know what you think! haha. And the bookish personality-- ok and basically all of the book posts you mentioned. Also, I love that you still have 52 left!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I would totally read a post about organizing your Goodreads shelf or making a good cuppa :)

    ReplyDelete
  25. I appreciate your ability to give yourself feedback BEFORE you post ha ha.
Some of these would be interesting to read but you're right: a few may turn ranty and I have a word doc for those such posts. They need not see the light of the internet.
I would be interested in how to make a good cuppa though. I feel like I need to try proper tea, at least once.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I cannot believe all your draft posts!!! Wow. I have one, from over a year ago. That's it! I suppose I always just wing it!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I appreciate your commitment to not writing about the 'same old, same old' thing that's been said dozens of times--I could certainly stand to go through my drafts folder...I have about a 100 drafts, though most of them probably aren't longer than a few words...

    ReplyDelete
  28. I would totally have been interested in some of these but I can also understand why they didn't come to fruition. I have a few similar drafts saved on some of these topics. For me, it's mostly about time when it comes to some of these posts!!! Hope you had a great weekend :)

    ReplyDelete
  29. I have 10 drafts. The post I draft the most often and don't end up posting are ones about current events or religion. I do have thoughts and things I want to share, but I usually don't end up wanting to be controversial or I just don't feel strongly enough that it needs to be talked about on the blog. These cracked me up! Here was my favorite: What working at McDonalds taught me: Even I don't care about this post and I wrote it.
    LOL :)

  30. Do the everyday meals post!!! I LOVE those. It always gives me new ideas. I have a million draft posts, too - sometimes it's because I don't know how to finish them and others it's just not having the time to dedicate to it!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Recipes from Australia (note: may not be factually correct as Australia seems to like to steal ideas... but that's okay... mate...); Fairy bread, meat pies, sausage rolls, lamingtons, pavlova (soz NZ), damper. chocolate crackles, honey joys, those arnotts oval shaped biscuits with icing and lolly faces :P okay and I don't know what else haha.

I'm a bit OCD and constantly deleting my "didn't quite get there" posts but I have a list of posts that I want to write but probably never will!

    ReplyDelete
  32. You deleted them?!? Noooooo. I want to read about your goodreads shelves. And, there's some Australia ones that we can use for our series. And, the stop hating on yourself post is a great message, even if it's been said before. The post about your dad...I agree something like that can be very therapeutic even if it isn't shared.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Um, I have 589 drafts. But mine go back 6 years, hehe. I am always writing stuff down. I think on some things I'm too late--like making your own deodorant. That wasn't a big thing a few years ago, but now everything is coconut oil and natural, so I'll probably delete that one. 588 to go!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Your justifications for not publishing are hysterical. I do think, though, that there are some really good topics you should address because you never know who's listening and might need to hear why it's important to stop hating yourself. And the US/Australia stuff is fascinating to me. So you should write that anyway because obviously it's all about me.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Okay I LOVE this prompt...basically taking a look at all your drafts! I have about 15 right now, so I could make a pretty decent post by talking about them all and then just DELETING THEM since I'll basically never hit publish, anyway! Ha! YES to loving yourself. AMEN! :)

    ReplyDelete
  36. HA I LOVE THIS. Your commentary on the titles cracks me up! :P bahahah I should definitely go through mine.. soon... because I just looked and I'm sitting at 215 drafts. Though some I have FINALLY gone back to and filled them out to publish! :) XO - Alexandra

  37. Wow you have so many draft posts. I don't even know how many I have. I think you should do a post on How to Love yourself. That is something that I know alot of girls struggle with myself included. We have to make ourselves happy first. I have a very bad habit of always putting myself down but I'm working on getting better about it. We are our own worse enemies. I would love to know how to make a good cuppa. I wish I could make better coffee at home. hahaha

    ReplyDelete
  38. Dang you have a lot of drafts! I only have one, and I just need to create a graphic for it to be published later in December. I'm with you on the free refills in America. When I lived in France all I wanted to do was post up at a coffee shop and drink a boat load of coffee while I did my work. What I got was a 4oz cup and no refills. I also missed ice in drinks, because I was there in the summer and it wasn't AC'd. Note, I missed AC too. But the wine was cheaper than bottled water and it was GOOD wine, so I was basically an alcoholic while I lived overseas ;)

  39. Over, schmover. I loved reading posts in this linkup and the prompts are always open :) And there's totally no rules at all, interpret however you like! And I seriously love deleting drafts that are really just titles or like one idea that I've been sitting on for ages and just don't care enough to take any further than where they are. So yeah, i get that good feel.

Ratatouille a la Kristen sounds awesome. Granted I haven't had real ratatouille so I don't know how it differs, but whatever.

I've written a post on body shaming, and while it felt really good to write it and half such good feedback, it's true that it didn't change anything. No one who didn't agree with me before suddenly agreed after reading that post. Sometimes writing stuff like that is more torturous than it is useful becuase it just makes you think all these horrible things and if in the end there's no purpose other than getting upset, I say it's not really worth the effort.

I shamefully have NO go-to meals. Except like eggs for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Every time I have to cook for both of us it's an exercise in panic because I basically have forgotten how to make real meals since I rarely do anymore. I know how to cook, but my kitchen is way too small to do it comfortably, so I don't enjoy it much and end up eating a sandwich or hummus and carrots for dinner more often than not. I WISH I could just pick from my brain bank. Would love to see this post, honestly!

LOL to the next batch, especially how living here has changed you.

Okay seriously maybe I'm weird but I'd like to read most of these. Especially the book ones, loving yourself, and basically anything you have to say because I <3 you and whatever you write, for real. Totally get you on not sharing the dad stuff. Cathartic, and now it can stop taking up space. Good on ya.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I would enjoy reading about a lot of these if you ever decided you had more to say! I do understand how some posts are helpful to write (and help you process) even if you never actually share it. I get that.

    ReplyDelete
  41. And now it's time for you to write a post on each and every one of these!!!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I think a lot of these would have made good posts! But I hear ya. Also this totally made me LOL " What working at McDonalds taught me: Even I don't care about this post and I wrote it." And I'd still read a post about what you bought while in Vegas!! I can't believe how many draft posts you have/had! And you still have 52?! Crazy! Also, remember, people like to read what you have to write about because we like YOU. :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. The go to meals is definitely one that I want you to resurrect and yes to the europe trip one and how you saved money!! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston

  44. I love this blog post topic! your draft posts and your comments are hilarious - "even I don't care about this post and I wrote it." hahahahaha! I think I have maybe 12 drafts or so, but yea, none of them will get published.

    ReplyDelete
  45. "Even I don't care about this post and I wrote it." Oh my gosh. I have so many of those posts it's unreal. Haha

    ReplyDelete
  46. I got excited about recipes from Australia until I heard your description. haha :)

  47. This is such a good idea! I have so many blog post drafts I really need to just go through and delete!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Holy cow! That's a ton of drafts! I've got maybe a dozen but most just have random pictures that needed a placeholder. Haha!

Thank you so much for your comment! I reply to my comments via email, but I can't do that if you are a no-reply blogger.
