Happy Thursday everyone. Felt like a currently kind of Thursday to me. Linking up with Kristin & Joey.
Feeling happy that today is my Friday. Fridays are my busiest day, which means today is going to be busy trying to get all my usual Friday stuff done, but I don't mind. A short week is always a reason to celebrate.
Laughing at the humour section of pinterest. Whenever I need a good laugh, that's where I go.
Wanting to volunteer and donate my time and money, I want to educate myself on how I can support the things that are important to me. I currently donate to two organisations monthly and those two are both important to me for different reasons and I am happy with my contributions to them both. But I want to know more, I want to do more, give more. I just don't know where to begin.
Listening to all sorts of things, surprisingly. I normally only listen to the P&P soundtrack at work, but lately I have been listening to the music from Miss Fisher's (yes, my middle name is obsessed) and my 'fun' playlist on spotify. The two most recent additions to that playlist are Still Falling For You by Ellie Goulding and Hold My Hand by Jess Glynne - both from the Bridget Jones's Baby soundtrack. Still Falling For You gives me all the feels. If you've seen the movie, it's the song at the end.
Working on paying off that debt y'all. Thanks to ebates (not an affiliate link, but you should be using it if you're not!) I made a large payment on one of my cards and I am *this close* to paying it off and I am SO proud of myself. I am trying really hard to get them all paid off before or as close to my 30th as possible.
Reading 2 books, I almost always have a real book, a kindle book and an audiobook going at the same time. Listening to The Boston Girl and kindle reading Lilac Girls. Just finished On Dublin Street (real book) last night. If you like romances, check it.
In case you are wondering how or why I read 3 books at once, it's because I am like Rory and it depends what I am in the mood for or what I am doing. I generally read the kindle before bed like before lights out, the real book is my reading on the couch or in bed but not before sleep book, and the audio is for the gym or driving. If the kindle or real book is super captivating, obviously I'll read regardless of whether I'm about to go to sleep or not, but I rarely listen to the audio unless I am driving or working out. I also have the kindle app on my phone so whenever I am waiting, in line somewhere or look like I am playing on my phone I'm actually reading.
Really exciting stuff, I know.
Watching nothing! I know, are you proud of me? I haven't started Miss Fisher's for the 4th time. I want to though, it's just hard with the current living situation (one TV in one large room and it's football season). I did cry a bit when I saw this though:
Don't judge me.
Hoping the appraisal for our house goes well. The inspection went well and we have 3 small things to fix. The appraisal is the last hurdle, and though I am not worried about it appraising for sale price, I am worried that something will come up based on the type of loan and type of appraisal (according to our realtor). Once that goes though, I will stress a little less about this whole thing. That's probably not true, I will probably continue to stress until we walk away from the closing.
Eating raisin bran for dinner. Can't stop, won't stop, should probably stop.
Drinking water, diet coke, tea and baileys - obviously not all at the same time, but that is basically all I drink all the time, in order of amount of consumption.
Excited for this weekend - tomorrow I drive to Richmond, VA to meet up with the girls for another half marathon and it's been so long since I have seen them, I'm sure we're gonna have a fabulous time.
Not excited for the driving part though - if you have any suggestions to help me stay awake on my long solo drives, please share!
Thanks for sharing the new Ellie Goulding song. I'm a little out of the loop here in China. Way to go on your progress with paying off your debt!! You'll get there!
ReplyDeleteWaiting for the appraisal is so hard! Hoping all goes well there! And awesome work on being close to paying off your credit card!! Thats a huge accomplishment! And dang, ebates helped with that? My ebates checks are like $2-11 haha
ReplyDeleteDo you buy like everything in your whole life through ebates because the most I've ever made is $20 in a check! V jealous of your utilization of that tool
ReplyDeleteAudiobooks for the drive! Good luck :)
ReplyDeleteI listened to The Boston Girl.
I just got that same wine glass for my sister- in-law, only it says "dog".
Enjoy your long weekend!
this christmas I'm going to take kayla to the food bank or shelter and either pack boxes for the food drive or help serve hot meals to those who need it. I think this is perfect for her to learn how to give back and if I can find a place, we'll be doing that every year. girlfriend needs to learn the importance of giving back and helping out others any way she knows how.
ReplyDeleteAs for donating, select a charity or service which holds a special place in your heart; for me, that's the heart and stroke foundation (my father died of a heart attack) and mental health (since i struggled with PPD). I donate to those two things regularly. it doesn't have to be much either; sometimes i donate a few thousand, sometimes a few hundred so any amount counts.
Good luck with the appraisal! I would definitely listen to podcasts on your drive. Audio books don't do it for me, but I can listen to podcasts all day err day! Have a safe drive and good luck in your race :)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your long weekend, time with the girls and the race! I'd recommend podcasts and audiobooks for the drive but I'm sure you've thought of that. Lol. I'm actually going to email you a fun podcast link to check out and I love What should I eat next? too. I am thinking of volunteering at our library to help kids learn to read and develop literacy... Definitely something I feel passionate about. Hope you find something that really draws you in!
ReplyDeleteI totally do the multiple books at a time, I have my audiobook that I listen on my commute, then I have a book at my desk to read during lunch (usually a much smaller and easier to read one since I don't get too much time) and then my nighttime book I read before bed. Fingers crossed everything goes peachy with the appraisal!! I totally want to sign up to do a volunteer thing too, I've heard of feed my hungry children in Chicago, but not sure if they have the same or similar thing here in Houston. Woohoo for girl time and race time, you could totally knock out an audiobook during that time or get a really fun 90's playlist with classics and just belt out tune after tune the whole drive :)!
ReplyDeleteAnother half marathon?? Girl, you're on a mission this fall! Can't wait to hear about how it goes - GOOD LUCK!!! :)
ReplyDeleteOh boy fun! Running and girl's time! Best of luck! On the run and the house and the paying off that credit card!
ReplyDeleteI'm SO glad I'm not the only one who reads like 4 books at a time. I just paid off the last of our debt in the summer and it felt SOOO good.
ReplyDeletewww.justmurrayed.com
Enjoy your nice long weekend and good luck on the half! To combat my feelings of the past few days, I've also been looking for some amazing things to donate my time and $$ to - because it's always important to give back. :)
ReplyDeleteFor whatever reason I haven't been able to start Lilac girls. It's so strange. :/ I like reading more than one book at once too. Ever since Halloween though I have been in a slump. I hope I can get back to it soon. I have so many library books right now. #bookbanfail XO - Alexandra
ReplyDeleteSimply Alexandra: My Favorite Things
Good luck with your half marathon! And I haven't heard that Ellie Goulding song yet.. I have no clue how haha. I'll have to check it out:)
ReplyDeleteI like the polar bear on the Coke can :) I tend to read two or three books at a time, too. And I pick up the one that I'm in the mood for. (I didn't know that was a Rory thing... I should watch the series more.) I still need to check out Miss Fisher's. K is gone for the week so maybe now is my shot! Haha!
ReplyDeleteOh - I hate driving, but hopefully you'll have good weather. Singing out loud (and I mean, belt out those songs) helps me stay awake. Best to do if I'm driving alone though -- scares the passengers otherwise. Yay for any debt paydown! Baby steps! :) Good luck on your race and enjoy yourself!
ReplyDeleteI love Raisin Bran - it's definitely acceptable for dinner. I really want Raisin Bran now. I like the crunch kind. I usually do the same thing with books. I read the kindle before bed and regular books during the day. I've been doing kindle only now, since it is perfect for reading with one hand and holding baby in the other. I haven't watched Miss Fisher yet, but I started watching Call the Midwife because hello, I'm baby obsessed. It's so good.
ReplyDeleteI think I missed the house news post, hopefully I come across that as I work my way through blogs!
ReplyDeleteYum to all the cereal and Baileys! I'm the same way with books, I have three sitting next to my bed and it all depends on what I'm in the mood for. Happy Friday for you <3
ReplyDeleteGreen Fashionista
Dogs on the humor section of pinterest just make my life so much better.
ReplyDeleteMy brother has netflix so I plan on watching Miss Fisher when I go home for Christmas. I have been on the funny cat boards of Pinterest pretty much non-stop since Tuesday evening. It kept me sane. :( I am generally a read one book at a time girl. I'm old and get confused if I try to read too many different books at the same time. LOL! Fingers crossed the appraisal goes well for you! Good luck at your half marathon!
ReplyDeleteOh, volunteering. I just started volunteering at my local library and really enjoy it. But it is a weekly gig and some places where you volunteer do want a weekly commitment, which not everyone can give. You also might want to see if the organizations you already support or one you want to support, holds fundraising events, like walks, that you can volunteer at. I worked at the MS Society and we had so many events and needed a ton of volunteers for a few hours on the day of the event, so more doable for those with busy lives. Hope that helps!
I was reading your first thing and thinking huh, that's weird, today is my Friday too! And then I almost thought to ask you why you were off tomorrow, and then I face-palmed really hard.
ReplyDeleteI'm really glad that at least the silver lining of a really heartbreaking election is that people are becoming more motivated. All the numbers are reporting that a pathetically small number of registered voters actually voted this election, and I'm embarrassed for that. And angry. But anyway, I'm happy to hear this has spurned an interest in becoming more engaged for a lot of people.
Congrats on being so close to paying off that card! Keep up the awesome momentum. Proud of you!
Unless I'm really behind on podcasts, I usually have an audiobook and book book going at the same time, and I use them the same way you do. I listened to The Boston Girl a couple months ago; I hope you're enjoying!
A tip I read for staying awake on long drives, besides audiobooks/podcasts instead of music, is to chew gum or eat crunchy candy or snacks. Hope your drive isn't too terrible, and I can't wait to see you tomorrow!! <3
I always have two books going now that I do audio. So one regular one audio. Much more and I couldn't keep up! Although, I guess right now I do have a third...what to expect first years. But that doesn't really count! Good luck with the appraisal, I am sure it will turn out fine.
ReplyDeleteTotally jealous of your short week, but not jealous of you having to run this weekend lol. Good luck on the half, I know you will rock it and I hope you girls have a fabulous time!!!!
Hooray for a girls trip! The one thing that I do hate about going places without my husband is the driving part, but at least you'll have your audiobook to listen to, right? I hope that you're enjoying Lilac Girls so far! It's a pretty intense book, but so good too!
ReplyDeleteSo much good stuff going on! Way to go on the card - I know exactly how that feels and paying of debt is like winning the lottery (but then not having any left haha) reading multiple books depending on mood sounds genius- why haven't I thought of that?!
ReplyDeleteNOOOOOOOOO - you have a pic of the C-word on your blog. (cereal... I just gagged) ... still gagging....
ReplyDeleteyou'll appreciate I'm calling in the payment to pay my car off this weekend AND my stupid $3000 dental bill. Bye Felicia!
Glad to hear that the inspection went well! And awesome that you are paying off more debt! So great! :)
ReplyDeleteAlso, I'm watching Gilmore Girls right now as I'm reading this so when you mentioned Rory I felt like you were sitting next to me chatting with me because you knew that I was watching GG! ;)
"Can't stop, won't stop, probably should stop." Hahaha. I don't know why I loved that so much.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking about starting a monthly donation too. I think I know where I want to donate, but then I'm not sure...
Great job working on that debt, girlfriend!! You got this! :) I hope things go well with the house situation and appraisal, that whole situation can feel stressful but I'm sure it will all get worked out. Enjoy your drive- I'm weird and LOVE driving, even if I'm alone. I like to have some candy or gum on hand though for a little burst of sugar if necessary ;)
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your run! And yay for seeing friends. Interesting audiobooks and lots of diet coke for staying awake is my top tip. And a crunchy snack. You could go for carrot sticks if you wanted to be healthy or something... I find the crunch keeps me awake! Bizarre maybe but it works relatively well.
ReplyDeleteMay have also had a small cry at no season 4. Am now hoping that I somehow bump into Essie Davis in London one day!
I haven't really shared it on the blog, but I do a lot of volunteer work, so it makes me excited to hear you're curious about more! I would make a list of issues that are important to you and then narrow it down to one or two. Decide if you want to do locally and see if they have anything locally for your issue(s). Good luck and let me know if you need help!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your run!!! Also - I think you really need to watch The Crown. You'd love it!
ReplyDeleteCaleb and I have a long drive to Nashville today but I'm excited. I love to drive! He used to listen to books on tape but I've never done it because I just love to actually READ. But I love driving! Have fun on your trip to Richmond to see your girls! :) & best of luck on your other Half! You're a beast, girl!
ReplyDeleteYay for Thursdays that are really Fridays! I'm with you on reading one ebook and one physical book at a time, and I forgot I got an audiobook with my last credit and never listened to it, so I might try that out soon. I've been eating cereal like 3x a day, I think I need to stop buying it, haha. Volunteering is such an awesome thing to do, but sometimes it can be overwhelming knowing what to do or where to start. I hope you're able to zero in on something. And eeek hope you guys have so much fun in Richmond!
ReplyDeleteI'll be in VA next month and can't wait. It's my favorite state. I'm with you on the raisin bran - don't stop!
ReplyDeleteBailey's sounds good!
ReplyDeleteYES! I love the humour section of pinterest. There's always something hilarious to be found, haha!
ReplyDeleteI volunteer with a few local organisations and it is SO rewarding! I am also anxiously waiting for the launch of Big Brother/Big Sisters to launch near me as I can't wait to get involved!
I love Sultana Bran and I feel like it's the most underappreciated cereal, haha!
When I first started reading the "drinking" option, I really thought that you were mixing all those things together and I was actually intrigued :) Happy Friday!
ReplyDeleteUm, I could cry now at that news about Miss Fisher's. BUT, at least they're working on a movie. Yay! I'm still making my way through season one, but I love it more than ever. I hope you did well at your race - have fun with your friends!
ReplyDeleteThat dog meme cracked me up. So funny. I hope everything goes well with the appraisal and the final steps with the house! I'm sure it will!
ReplyDeleteAs someone who works in non-profit and appreciates volunteers I really encourage you to reach out to the organizations you are passionate about and let them know you're interested in volunteering. I can almost guarantee there is a list sitting on someones desk of things that should be done but just haven't gotten done because there is no-one there to do them. Let them know how much time you're willing to give and sometimes it even helps to send along your resume so that the organization can see what specific needs they have that you have the skills for. Volunteers seriously make the world go 'round! :)
ReplyDeleteEbates is awesome!
ReplyDeleteHope your race (and drive!) went well! Lately, I've only had one book on the go, but I often have 2 or 3 too...especially if one is an audiobook...you can't JUST have an audiobook on the go. So I totally get it ;)
ReplyDeleteHoping for the best for your appraisal!! Those initial things in the beginning are the worst!!
ReplyDeleteGawwwwd I have so many books that I want to read RIGHT NOW, and Lilac Girls is one of them.
ReplyDeleteYou drank coffee on your drive. I saw you. What happened to my non-coffee, tea-drinkin' compadre? ;)
I particularly enjoyed your "wanting" share. I can relate.
I quit reading after the appraisal comments. Your moving?! Wow I'm behind on stalking I mean reading your posts!! Fingers crossed for the appraisal to come back where you need it to be!!
