So I decided to take a different approach, the characters I wish I was as cool as! Plus, this way, I can use gifs and you all know how much I love a good gif (sorry Steph).
Donna Noble (Doctor Who)
I love Donna. She has a huge heart and is just so unapologetically herself. Plus her hair is flipping fabulous. She's hilarious and says whats on her mind, and I love that she wasn't in love with the Doctor like all the other companions.
I definitely think I have the being bossy, big teeth and frizzy hair parts down. But Hermione is crazy smart and pretty badass, things I do not think when thinking of myself.
I mean, obviously my girl Lizzie is on my list. She's so stubborn and thinks before she speaks, that's not me at all. I'm more like Anne in Persuasion, easily swayed and not much to look at. I kid, I kid. I always admired that she could acknowledge her strengths and weaknesses, as well as when she made a mistake or was in the wrong. Plus, she's sassy and fun.
Guys. Remember that one time I was obsessed with North & South and how annoying I was about it? Well I recently discovered this TV show, and I am warning you, I feel the same amount of love for this show. It is FABULOUS. I am so hardcore addicted and into it, I felt real sorrow when I realised there was no definite date for season 4 yet. Like, actually upset. I always roll my eyes when people talk about how much they love a certain show or book and I'm like okay guys, I like shit too, but get over it. And here I am obsessed with this show and wanting a season 4 more than anything. Seriously. I haven't touched a book since I discovered this series, I watched the entire thing in one week and already started it again.
But, Phryne. I just love her, seriously. She is so fun, badass and owns who she is. Freaking. Love. Her. She is hilarious, sassy and silly. I wish I was as cool as her. If you want to know just how awesome she is, check this out.
And yes, I know I used a million gifs but seriously. If you're looking for a new TV show, and you liked Downton Abbey, check it out. It's a bit sillier than Downton, and there are murders and mysteries (duh) but it's not like SVU or anything.
I could probably think of a thousand more, but I'll just keep it to these 4 today.
How bout you? Any fictional characters you wish you were as cool as?
Such a great list! And I mean who doesn't wish they had some of Elizabeth Bennett in them!?
ReplyDeleteI think Hermione has her faults, though - primarily, she treats Ron too much like her child, rather than her friend/potential love interest. When I read the books for the second time, it really stood out to me how much she sounds like Mrs. Weasley at times. Also, she has trouble understanding that some people like Divination (even if she doesn't) and not every house elf wants to be "freed".
ReplyDeleteI don't know the last one but YES to the other 3!!! You know, I actually didn't like Donna the first couple episodes she was in, but she won me over pretty quickly and it was such a relief to have a companion who was just a companion and not all love-stricken and awkward. We were stalling out in our Doctor Who watching after they took it off Netflix, but I found it on Prime and need to get back into it.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love this! I couldn't think of any fictional characters I'm like either (well... none that I want to admit to publicly!). I wish I was as cool as Lucy from the Narnia books or Lyra from His Dark Materials.
ReplyDeleteelizabeth bennett yes yes! you know i obviously agree to this. and the woman who plays donna on doctor who is a FAB character in one of my fav movies ever "love and other disasters" go find that and watch it immediately if not sooner.
ReplyDeletexoxo cheshire kat
oh you're going to hate me but I have no idea who these characters are, other than Hermione :(.
ReplyDeleteHermione! I agree 100% with wanting to be like her! (I'm not nearly as clever or brave! I've got the frizzy hair, though.) Apparently I need to invest some time in Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries because I've been hearing great things and there's a Downton-sized gap in my heart right now.
ReplyDeleteI had the same reaction when I saw that tag, I thought it was so cool, but literally could think of zero characters. Elizabeth Bennet would definitely be on my list too, though I think I'm actually most like Fanny Price (who I think is like everyone's least favorite JA heroine, haha). I'm almost done with Hart of Dixie and am totally intrigued by Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries-- it looks ridiculously fun.
ReplyDeleteI added Fisher to my netflix cue but haven't watched yet.
ReplyDeleteI had a hard time thinking of three as well!
Completely agree on Hermione, she's such a badass. I could never be as cool as her.
ReplyDeleteLOVE this! Hermoine Granger forever and always <3
ReplyDeleteGreen Fashionista
I don't know who any of these people are except Hermione. Have you read Cursed Child yet?
ReplyDeleteI've tried to think of three (mostly from TV since that's where my love lies) and haven't, at least not yet!
Hermione for sure, she's seriously the BEST! I always LOVED Kate Hudson's character Andi in 10 Things I Hate About You, so cute and fun.
ReplyDeleteHow have I never heard of Miss Fishers Murder Mysteries??? I gotta check this out. I love a SASSY gal, especially before the era really encouraged it
ReplyDeleteWe should all aspire to be half as awesome as Hermione Granger. Girl is on top of things. (Before I read/watched HP, my mom said Hermione reminded her of me. I wish!)
ReplyDeleteI think I decided that the 3 characters I am represented by are Monica from Friends, Grace from Will & Grace, and Liz Lemon from 30 Rock. But I have no desire to make that a post on Insta and I just wanted to tell someone, haha ;)
haha these gifs from that last tv show make me want to start watching it!
ReplyDeleteObviously I need to start watching this show! Those gifs are awesome! And I love both Hermione & Elizabeth Bennett! I'm a lot like Elizabeth so I've always related to her. :)
ReplyDeleteI don't watch Dr. Who, although it really seems like a show that I would love. It just doesn't seem like the show you can just jump into and start watching. Am I wrong? I'd really like to be wrong! :) Oh, Hermione. I have the smart, bossy traits down too, but I am not nearly as brave as she is. I love that she was smart and brave and those were seen as good, normal traits. I'd like to be as badass as Buffy.
ReplyDeleteClearly I need to jump on and figure out who these people are -- minus Hermione. And she's awesome - I love her pointed sarcasm when she does it. There's a girl called Donna on this show Suits that I've always loved -- she's redheaded, sassy as EFF and SMART. I'd definitely pick her !!
ReplyDeleteHa! I couldn't think of three characters for myself either.
ReplyDeleteHermione... yes, good choice!
I've always liked Megan McCafferty's character Jessica Darling and also Mia from Princess Diaries.
I felt the same about the fictional characters! Michael listed three and I was like, "...you just picked people you like. How are you like any of those?" Hahaha.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't think of anyone to compare myself to either when I saw it all going around. I think Hermione Granger is certainly bad ass though!!! The rest of the characters I don't know. I mean, I know of Pride and Prejudice but not the specific characters and I have never seen the other shows/movies. Clearly I live under a rock. It is always so fun to think about though!!!
ReplyDeleteI wish that I was cool as Hermione and Elizabeth Bennett too! I just love them both, plus I think that I really identify with them because they're both book nerds too! I think that only one that I would add to your list would be Belle because she's my favorite Disney princess and she's a book nerd too! Plus I love that she can look past the outside because she falls in love with the beast.
ReplyDeleteOK, Miss Fisher is going on my must-watch list. It looks like so much fun!
ReplyDeleteI still have North and South on my TBR list after you raved about the show. It's actually on my Kindle now, which means on the short list, lol.
ReplyDeleteThe show that you posted about does seem pretty fun. I'd consider it after catching up on Downton and finishing HIMYM.
This is fantastic. I laughed out LOUD when you described yourself like Anne. Girl, whatever!
ReplyDeleteI've been racking my brain trying to think of three that best describe me ever since seeing people post theirs and i can't seem to narrow it down either!
Erm, I don't know any of these people except Hermoine, but she's awesome so yes to that one! I couldn't think of three I'm like either, but was trying hard to! I got as far as Mindy Kaling (wrote a whole post on it!) and maybe Elaine from Seinfeld or (a less rich and less drunk) Karen from Will and Grace.
ReplyDeleteI would want to be like Hermione, too!
ReplyDeleteI get compared to Lorelie Gilmore all the time - I just wish I really was as cool as she is!
ReplyDeleteThe only character from this that I know is Hermione and I definitely wish I was like her. I've got the bossiness, frizzy hair and big teeth going for me too but that's about it! haha
I love thinking about fictional characters. I definitely feel like Liz Lemon many days. But I would love to be more like Hermione, the Queen of Dragons or some other super bad ass bitch.
ReplyDeleteI love this. The gifs are the greatest!
ReplyDeleteThe dramatic gifs are the funniest and somehow I knew you would have Pride and Prejudice on the list!
ReplyDeleteLove your list! Seriously, Donna Noble, Hermione Granger, and Elizabeth Bennet are amazing!
ReplyDeleteYou know I'm terrible about sticking with any tv series, but I just may have to give Miss Fisher's Murder Mystery a view the next time that I see it's on. The way you've described Phryne sounds so much fun!
ReplyDeleteGoing to see if I can get my hands on Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries... I love your choices, I think all together they make a pretty kick ass personality. For me, I wish I were as cool as Lorelai Gilmore. I'm not imaginative enough to think of any more people!
ReplyDeleteLOVE that you did a whole post on this! Gifs are way better than just three pictures.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great post!! Oh Lizzie, such a great character. I have no idea who I would like to be. Oh maybe Cinderella! haha
ReplyDeleteInteresting little post! Hmm... I wish I was cool as Leather Tuscadero from 1970s/80s TV show Happy Days, Jo Polniaczek from the 80s show Facts of Life, or Isabelle from The Nightingale.
ReplyDeleteIs it bad that I have no clue who any of these character's are, but because of your GIFS i can totally see it LOL! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston
ReplyDeleteHermione Granger. Definitely.
ReplyDeleteYes to Donna Noble! Girlfriend tells it like it is!
ReplyDeleteOh love this, somehow missed it yesterday. I loved doing the three fictional characters but it was tough for sure. I would love to be as smart as Rory or as fun as Lorelai. Obviously GG. All the way. As rad as Lane. As good of a cook as Sookie. As unapologetic as Emily or Paris. I digress... Everytime I read anything (almost) I wish I was as brave as the badass female lead. I feel very very not brave IRL. :P I need to watch Miss Fisher. It looks so great. We are catching up on the last seasons of all of our CW shows now that we have been home. Jane the Virgin, TVD, The Originals, Reign, etc. I had to BUY all the izombie episodes a while back. SO. GOOD. Oh my! :) XO - Alexandra

I really feel like I would enjoy that Miss Fisher series.... It sounds so good. This post is really fun! I agree with Hermione and Lizzie Bennet and also sometimes wish I was more like Jo March and Eleanor Dashwood. Off topic but I soooo can't wait to see Emma Watson as Belle! <-- would also aspire to be like her...
ReplyDeleteYes Jo March!

ReplyDeleteI wish I were as cool as Anne Shirley. Always speaking exactly what's on her mind and not caring what people think about her. And always so positive and has such a lovely outlook on life!
ReplyDelete100% yes to Hermione! I've been hearing rumblings about Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries - I'll have to check it out!
ReplyDeleteI wish, wish, wish I was Hermione! And if not, I def need her as a best friend! DIY Pumpkin Spice Highlighter
ReplyDeleteLove all these! I need to watch the Miss Fisher series now. Love Donna Noble and Hermione ... and of course now I need to reread P&P! Anytime I read a quote or see a scene, I feel the need for a re-read, so thank you! :)
ReplyDeleteI love how you turned this into your own version of the three fictional characters thing - love! Obviously, Elizabeth Bennett is one of mine, as well as Jo March. :)
ReplyDeleteHermione is my spirit animal!!
ReplyDeleteI have loved seeing these posts on "three/four fictional characters" on social media. I've learned a lot about a few people I know from them! Love your take on this! The only one of these characters I'm familiar with is Hermione Granger and I think you and underselling yourself if you think she's smarter than you!
ReplyDeleteI think this was a fun approach to deciding what you like in a person because flattery is the highest compliment, but I still think you're cooler than all those characters!
ReplyDeleteOhhhhh I'm going to have to check out Miss Fisher thingy! Netflix? I literally cried that there was no more Downton and actually have re-watched seasons 1-4, lost my shit when Matthew died again, and am about to start season 5 again. Hubs is like, what's your deal? And I'm like I wish I lived in the 1920's England, wealthy as hell...
ReplyDeleteLove this list! All these women are super cool and I think you are totally just as cool as they are!
ReplyDeleteElizabeth Bennet FTW!
