Things that make me rage

Pet peeves, things that make me want to hit someone over the head, grinds my gears, whatever you want to call it, these things annoy me:

- Real women have or do this or that. Last time I checked, we are all real. So real women watch this, or wear that, or have curves, or do whatever you do and thus want to put it on a shirt or meme - shut up.

- Whistling or playing on your phone with the sound on. Don't be an asshole, yo. If I wanted to listen to shit, I'd do so.

- People bumping into me. OH YOU'RE SO BUSY.

- People who stop suddenly or look at their phone whilst walking. You deserve for me to bump into you, and I will do it on purpose.

- People who complain about the same things constantly. The ones that complain about summer every summer, or winter every winter (oh hello, that might be me, I'm trying to be better), or facebook when they can, you know, not go on facebook.

YOU'RE NOT MY SUPERVISOR!
- Dirty bathrooms. Not because of lack of cleaners, but because grown women apparently don't know how to not make a mess. You do realise bathrooms wouldn't be as gross if people like you weren't as gross first?

- Telling me something is wrong because it's different. This has to be my number one expat pet peeve. I might have mentioned it before. Oh it's WRONG that Christmas is in summer at home. It's WRONG that we drive on the opposite side of the car/road. It's WRONG the way I spell or say something (because didn't you guys know I made all these decisions, so please tell me how wrong my choice was?). Please educate yourself on the difference between wrong and different-because-it's-not-what-you-grew-up-with.

wrong
rôNG/
adjective
  1. 1.
    not correct or true.
    "that is the wrong answer"

dif·fer·ent
ˈdif(ə)rənt/
adjective
  1. 1.
not the same as another or each other; unlike in nature, form, or quality.
"you can play this game in different ways"

- Accidental spoilers. Like the other day I saw someone put a book on a 'suicide' shelf which TOTALLY ruined the book - they didn't mean to spoil it, I didn't mean to see it but ohhhhhh lordy it makes me rage.

- One uppers. Anything you can do, believe me, they can do it better and will tell you about it.

- Mouth noises, but especially eating with your mouth open. Second to this is people who immediately make that noise as a joke when I tell them I hate it. Oh, you are so funny, seriously.

- People who aren't ready to order or pay, but refuse to move. This makes me SO antsy. I love my mum you guys, but she is the kind of person to get to the front of the line and say 'um...' and I'm the kind of daughter who will say 'omg mum HURRY UP THERE ARE PEOPLE WAITING OMG'.

Apparently a lot of shit annoys me you guys. Who knew? Well, I did. Do any of these things annoy you, or am I way bitchier than I thought I was?

  1. SO MUCH YES TO THE REAL WOMEN BS! Okay no more caps... but really... as someone who is thin I hate the whole "real women have curves" deal or the Dove beauty campaigns or fashion catwalks that only feature curvy women because I'm over here like "HELLOOOO! Last time I checked I was real too!"

And yes to people that have their phone sound on. Especially the keyboard sound when they're madly texting/FBing/whatevering. SO annoying. My phone is always on silent and I still manage to know when it's ringing.

Dirty bathrooms gross me out too. We went to look at a house the other day and the bathroom was DISGUSTING and I was like yah nope, no deal. Even though I know I could clean it so that's irrelevant, it was just the final straw as I'd already decided I hated it :P

You're not bitchy... unless I'm bitchy too and thus can't see it - so if that's the case HEY, BITCHY CLUB!

  2. Can I add to "playing with your phone with the sound on" and doing this on public transport?! Really. I'm sitting squished up against you on a train, reading silently, and you think I want to hear all the noises from your phone?!? (not you, of course.)

Wrong vs. Different. Yes, there is a difference, and it is wrong to not understand that difference.

  3. Hahahaha yes to so many of these! Oh I feel ya! Mouth noises are the WORST! And notnto one up you or anything. But I married an open mouthed eater. 😜

  4. Girl . . . preach it! Really what seems to annoy you (and me) are people who lack common courtesy. What is up with that these days? Are people just so self absorbed? Sometimes I think that's it - such a "me" society. I'm trying so hard to teach my kids to look around and consider others but constantly being on a device make that more difficult! Happy Hump day though!

  5. The "wrong" and "different" thing applies to SO much. I think people who judge and say "I can't" bug me (I wrote a post about this but haven't published it yet). You don't know until you try.
At this point, my non-pet-peeve list is shorter than my pet peeve list.
Concerning school: kids and parents being coddled is #1 on my list. Sometimes being a teacher is like being a 2nd class citizen.

  6. So much yes to allll of these! Especially all the people complaining about summer temps not ending yet and wishing for fall since like July. They're the same ones who will be complaining about how cold it is in a few months and how much they miss summer :-P

  7. Agree with all of these..although I love spoilers :) I always like to read a spoiler before seeing movies or reading books so I can look for clues along the way haha! I always feel awful if I accidentally spoil something (like last friday I talked about who won america's got talent and someone said I ruined it for them. I felt SO bad)

  8. I love this!! I am so with you on people bumping into me! I feel like I'm always the one to get out of everyone's way, and I'm like what would happen if I all of a sudden just stopped doing it?!? I love the Sex & the city meme -- such a good one!! And yes, just yes to the mouth sounds. Ugh...:shiver:

    ReplyDelete
  9. Oh I totally agree with all of these. The "real women" thing definitely works my nerves. Especially when applied to bodies. Grrr. I also hope I'm not too much of a complainer about the seasons! I make it known that summer is my favorite. My only real complaint about fall is that bloggers and Nordstrom try to make it start in July so it just seems never ending! But Fall itself is just fine...just not as great as summer! LOL!

  10. Dirty bathrooms drive me bonkers. It's the grossest thing ever. Along with the real women one is the mom one - 'good moms have messy kids and sticky floors' or something around those lines. NO. You can be a good mom and not be a total dirty, lazy slob. My mom is the best and our house was NEVER dirty. Never. Nor was I, but that was a personal 'hate to be sticky' thing. Your ability to get a mop out has nothing to do with your ability to parent.

  11. Nooooo mouth noises make me want to punch people in the face and I'm usually an extremely placid, non-violent person. Hands up, I'm someone who complains about winter far too much so I should probably get a handle on that. But basically I emphatically agree with all of these.

Oh and people are animals in bathrooms, it's like they think they're entering some magical realm where nobody else will encounter the mess they made. I was waiting in a bathroom queue behind a lady (there was one stall) so she knew I was going in right after her, looked me right in the face as she came out, and she had peed ALL OVER THE SEAT. WHAT. Who does that???

    ReplyDelete
  12. Oh man, the whole dirty bathrooms thing. We got a looooooong email at work about the state of the bathrooms just the other week. It's common decency people - clean up your mess. Not that hard!

    ReplyDelete
  13. omg that last one - hate it! and well i agree with all of them if i'm being honest. people are terrible. and the bumping into me. wtf. i mean i always get out of the way for people and they just barrel through. sometimes i don't want to get out of the way! and i HATE SPOILERS. hate hate them. books, movies, shows. you name it, do not tell me. ugh

    xoxo cheshire kat

    ReplyDelete
  14. HAHA Yes to all. I hate spoilers too. They are the worst. Someone ruined Harry Potter 5 and it took me like 3 tries to get through it, not to mention when I finally did it was in college. UGH. So much angst in that one to already know the big stuff. It was also someone I didn't even know. Also, people who ASK for spoilers. I was at a teen lock in or something ridiculous and someone was like, "tell us who dies in HP 7..." and then she proceeded to! KC drug me out of that room so fast. Thank the Lord. Then someone spoiled (accidentally) the very big thing of HP7. So... I have the rotten luck with HP spoilers. Must read Cursed Child NOW before I get more I guess... Yeah, I think with most of these things (for me) it's common sense and courtesy. I find that most people are not courteous whatsoever. That irks me. My new tirade has been at work we just put in these little recycling bins in each room. You don't have to do anything (no sorting, etc.) you just toss it in the bin. And in KC's office, someone in there (not him) keeps throwing their flippin' diet soda cans in the trash. They are LITERALLY right next to each other. In fact, the recycling bin is closer to the person... so.... what the hell. I don't understand. So I keep picking them out and tossing them in the correct bin hoping they will get the picture. Ugh. I digress... XO - Alexandra

  15. Whistling! OMGGG STTTAAAHPPP.. The worst part? Teh German is a whistler. I HATE it. It is like a dental drill through my brain. Also, I imagine that the asshats who refuse to silence their phone noises while in public are the same people who are parents who give their kids electronic devices that make noise with no headphones. I notice this especially in restaurants where parents bring their kids and their tablets to entertain them. I don't care how you parent, but for the love of all that is holy and sane, SILENCE THEM!

When people say something is wrong just because it's not the American way, I am quick to point it out. Like the "wrong" side of the road or the "wrong" spelling. People are so oblivious to life outside their bubble it's scary and infuriating. Be AWARE!

Worse than people who aren't ready in line are the people who aren't ready but are milling around the check out area who don't speak up and say, "Oh, I'm not ready, go ahead," when you stare at them to see if you're passing them in line. Why are people so afraid to speak to each other? I don't understand.

  16. I wrote a similar post for today but published another. Yes to all these (though I have been complaining about the heat. Sorry!). I get mad every day over the condition of our bathrooms at work. They are disgusting and I'm so ashamed of the grown women who think it's okay to act that way at work.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Hilarious! I'm on board with SO many (if not all) of these. I actually have a recurring segment on my blog (www.allisonarnone.com) that's called "Rant of the Day" so I'm no stranger to a good vent session! I work in NYC so people bumping into me and/or never looking up from their phone is PET PEEVE NUMERO UNO. It makes me a complete rage monster. Vent on, girl!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Okay, playing with the sound on the phone, YES. Recently I've also been around several people who are Facetiming in the most awkward public places with no headphones. Take that sh*t somewhere else, please.

I complain a lot about the Texas heat, and I will also complain when it drops below 75 degrees so I'm the least annoying person ever ;) NOT.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Um, I purposely run into people all the time if they stop dead in their tracks to answer a text message. GET OUT OF THE WAY. And, omg chewing noises bother me to no end. Poor Ryan receives my wrath whenever I'm feeling particularly crabby, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  20. That 'real women' thing makes me rage to no end. Ugh. Why do we need to put down ANY women at all? I also hate playing the bathroom game.. enter first stall, nope, second stall, nope, third stall, it'll do. Just don't be gross, people. One uppers are also my pet peeve. I know people like that and it is an immediate turn off to me ever being friends with them.

    ReplyDelete
  21. OMG Yes to all of these things!!!! Every last one of them! The real women thing or girl boss shit makes me rage all day. Just be boss. Why you gotta be girl boss? Noises and whistling and annoying other people in general UGH! STOP! And dear goodness I was at Walmart last Friday night real quick to grab something and I understand why people murder now LOL. There was this rude ass teenager in there fucking around on her phone and not paying attention to her surrounds she kept getting in front of me and walking slow and shit. And then one of the aisles was really tight and you couldnt walk around people down it and she stood in the middle on her phone reading something. I said excuse me three times and finally her mom was like "You need to move, someone is trying to get by!" She said, "Ugh, she can wait. I am reading this." I looked at her mother and then I looked down at my belly and I said "If my daughter ever acts like this out in public, I will smack the shit out of her." Then I looked at that girl and said, "Next time I will just run in to you with my cart." And took off.

  22. I adore my MIL but she's the WORLDS WORST at eating & talking with her mouth open. I die a little every time.
I work with a one-upper. I want to just punch her on a daily basis.

    ReplyDelete
  23. All of these annoy me too! I commute and when I can't get by because people can't get their face out of their phones for 5 min I get ragey. Unfortunately my mom is one of those who will stop walking abruptly and when I'm with her I casually guide out of the middle of foot traffic!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Omg, mouth noises! This probably makes me a bad pet owner, but I hate when my dogs lick themselves. It's such a wet, gross sound and they always want to do it while they're on the bed or somewhere close to you. Lick yourself while I'm gone all day! Actually I've had a cold this past week and I've had to breathe through my mouth and chewing has been a challenge and I'm grossing myself out so hopefully my nose clears up soon!

The women's bathroom in our office is awful and I don't get it. Not that hard! And the phones, and the indecisive people in line, and all of this really.

    ReplyDelete
  25. YES! Especially the one-uppers. And people who talk about themselves nonstop and never once ask about others. And close-minded people. Ahhhhh!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Girl, do not even get me started on a list of things that make me rage. We'll be here all day. But yes to people just randomly stopping. Either because they're looking at their phone, or they're just generally that unaware of life. But I will absolutely bump into them, on purpose, and hard, even if they weren't in my path to begin with. Because WATCH OUT.

People who don't know what they want to order, especially at places like McDonalds, or Chipotle kill me. Like HOW DO YOU NOT KNOW. Is this your first time here? Ever? If so, welcome to Fast Food America. There are only like 5 options. So just pick one, they all taste the same anyways. And there is an 80% chance it's all the same horse meat anyways.

Also, people that block right on red, when they're going straight, because they stopped smack dab in the middle of the lane, when if they could pull up like 3 more feet & a little left a whole stream of cars could turn right on red and thus eliminate a traffic jam that is currently building because you're Facebooking at the stoplight and have no idea.

Also people who leave their car at the pump when they go inside the gas station to like pee, get something to eat, whatever, when the pumps are already full and therefore cars are waiting while you order a sandwich.

And now I'm going to go for a walk, and calm down, away from people. I hope.

  27. People who complain about the same thing drive me batty, too. Or complain about something that is totally fixable but don't do anything to try to fix it! UGH.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Yes! To all of these, especially defining what a women can be. And it makes me the MOST ANGRY when the person setting the parameters is another woman!! ACK!!! I actually love it when you use words/phrases/spellings native to Australia. The only time I get thrown for a loop is the seasons. I don't know why that confuses me so much. :)

    ReplyDelete
  29. I could write a SUPER long comment agreeing with each of these separately but I just have to say I agree with EVERY SINGLE ONE. Probably especially the real woman thing, the wrong vs. different thing, and one-uppers!

    ReplyDelete
  30. I'm with you on a lot of these! If people don't know what they want, let the next person in front of you! You're wasting time!! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  31. I agree with you on so many of these. I especially agree with the complainers, what a "real" woman is, & one uppers.

    ReplyDelete
  32. The first one annoys me to no end. I wrote a post about it last year, how much I hate the "real women" BS. Real women have bodies, whatever type they damn well are.

I can't even stand the sound of notifications coming from my OWN phone, let alone anyone else's. The only time I have sound on is when my phone is in my purse or I have to be in another room than my phone and I'm expecting something.

The things women do to public bathrooms never cease to amaze me. And people who use "wrong" to mean different or new to them can just STFU. Anyway, yeah, all of these and about 10,000 other things annoy me too, so you're in good company, hah!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Ugh why are women so gross in public bathrooms? I always wonder if they are so gross in their own bathrooms? The girls in dorm bathrooms take the cake though, ugh, those were the sickest bathrooms ever! 40 girls sharing 5 toilets, sinks, and shakers was the worst! My biggest pet peeve is people who throw their cigarette butts out of their car windows, don't even get me started!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Ewww to dirty bathrooms! I agree with all of these, but especially the "real women" one and people who complain all the time. I really hate all whistling in general. It drives me crazy!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I'm getting heated just reading this haha! I can barely go to the grocery store because people are so rude and pushy. Last time people literally bumped me because they weren't paying attention, or they just leave their cart blocking the aisle. WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE?! Whew, OK I'll calm down now.

    ReplyDelete
  36. MOUTH NOISES. Absolutely the worst. I once worked in a cubicle next to a woman who ate with her mouth open. Then she got pregnant, and I kid you not, claimed every single morning that "the baby" needed THREE bowls of cereal. I can't think of many foods that are more annoying to listen to than cereal and apples, and she scarfed them both with a vengeance every. single. day. She almost got a stapler to the head more than once.

I've had a blog post similar to this in my drafts for a while, but can't decide if I'd sound too bitchy, too. Haha.

  37. Hahaha pretty much yes to all of these! I am one of those people who panics when it comes to ordering something BUT I do not hold up a line ever. I will let 10 people go in front of me just so I don't feel rushed. My husband is the WORST drive thru orderer and it drives me bananas. He never knows exactly what he wants and he orders things backwards. Like he'll say, "I'll have a coffee. With half a sugar. Medium. Oh and one milk". NO NO NO. And then he wonders why they get his order wrong lol.

My other pet peeve is people who think they own a sidewalk when walking towards me. No doofus, either move over to your side or I'm going to shoulder check you (I have done this on numerous occasion). Also, move over because I'm pregnant AND pushing a stroller. It's much easier for you to step by me on the grass than for me to do so.

    END RANT. ;)

  38. Can I agree with all of this!!? One uppers drive me bananas, the people who just stop to pull their phones out oh man...I will walk into them too! I get really impatient in lines too...whoops lol! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston

    ReplyDelete
  39. I am with you on the cell phone noises- nothing is more annoying in a doctor's waiting room than hearing someone's phone (or them talk on it).

    ReplyDelete
  40. It infuriates me when I hear "real women have curves". I have met people who are naturally skinny and they get bullied as much as overweight people. One time, I stood in what I thought was a long line at Starbucks. It turned out that a cluster of people was not really in line, just socializing at the end of the line. Ugh. Similar: That person who holds the line while they lecture the cashier about politics, religion, etc. because they have no one else to talk to.

  42. Ew, dirty bathrooms... They definitely make me rage. A public restroom is not an excuse to make a mess.

  43. I currently can't stand car alarms... But I think it's because of our neighbours across the street who took way too long to turn theirs off last night at 2 am. I think all of your points are very valid!

  45. You and I are one person - yes to everything here friend!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Plus one to all of these. ESPECIALLY STOPPING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE GD CITY SIDEWALK TO LOOK AT YOUR PHONE.

    ReplyDelete
  47. One uppers used to make me rage, but now I just think of this whenever someone like that starts: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oGQBFMdJZow. Then I make a game out of it and channel my inner Penelope. The real women stuff though, ugh, I can't even laugh that one off. Also, I'm guilty of stopping to look at the phone. I literally cannot walk and look, but I have gotten better about walking over to the side to stop.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Oh man, where should I begin? I'm just like you. I cannot stand one-uper's, they drive me crazy!! Don't even get me started on the ladies room. Someone keeps peeing on the floor and it is disgusting!! WTF is wrong with people. The sad thing is we don't know if someone has a problem or is just doing it out of spite. I really wish they would just stop.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Oh my gosh I am totally a person who isn't ready to order BUT I try not to get in line before I know what I want because I try to be aware of other people behind me. And Jordan gets really mad that I'm making him wait because people come in and he gets stressed out, so we get in line but I still don't know what i want and then he gets made because I take a long time to order! And I'm like, see this is why I wanted to wait to get in line!!! We have some issues to work out clearly.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Also things that make me rage: seeing someone texting and driving. YOU ARE ENDANGERING MY LIFE BY BEING STUPID.

  51. yes to alll these things... especially people who ALWAYS complain about the same thing, over and over again. move on already! xo jillian - cornflake dreams

  52. This totally made me laugh and nod my head yes. :) I got really cranky about Olympics spoilers...I got on instagram during a commercial and saw someone posted already about the US Women's Gymnastics team. I know I shouldn't have gone on social media, but I honestly didn't know that the competition was in real time that night. Ooops!

  53. Oh my, I can relate to so many of these (and have had an ongoing draft of a post similar to this..)! People who listen to music, watch videos, play games, etc. on their phone with the sound on drives me crazy, haha. Especially in the cubicle farm where I work. And the one uppers are something else... how is that you (not you, but the one upper) always have a story that relates to mine yet it's so much more dramatic?! I just don't believe anything they say.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I was recently on a plane and a GROWN ADULT (a child would've been annoying, but I could've maybe reasoned) played a game with sound on the entire flight. Not only on a low volume, but on max. I wanted to smack it out of their hand and it took all my willpower not to. Instead, I just gave them a bitch stare.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I can't tell you how many times I was nodding in agreement to ALL of this but especially the one-uppers. I will cut you out of my life if you do this constantly. I don't care.

    ReplyDelete
  56. The wrong/different thing is one of my biggest pet peeves too. I feel like it could solve a lot of problems in the world if people could realize that you don't have to be/like/want the same things as everyone else. SIGH. I get anxious about getting to the front of the line if I'm not prepared and usually end up panic ordering and being disappointed with whatever I get, haha.

    ReplyDelete
  57. OMG those people in line who get to the front and have no idea what they want. WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU DOING WHILE YOU WERE WAITING FOR 10MINS???? that happens ALL THE TIME here and it makes me (and the rest of the crowd) angry and i even say out loud ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME?!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Yes to all of these. ESPECIALLY the people who complain about Facebook....ON FACEBOOK.

    ReplyDelete
  59. PREACH PREACH PREACH!!! The weather one gets me, I knew someone like that and it was so annoying. UGH IT'S SO HOT WAAAAH, MY LIFE IS HORRIBLE. But the best part is, she'd also complain about the winter too. STFU baby. And people bumping into me, don't even get me started.

    ReplyDelete
  60. One uppers - the worst. But really, most things on the list are obnoxious. I can't stand the sidewalk stoppers - they can pummeled in NYC though and it can be entertaining to watch.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Bahaha! Amen to these peeves! The noises with the mouth thing drives me bat shit crazy! Michael does that crap all the time and I always have to tell him to shush!

    ReplyDelete
  62. People playing videos and shit on their phones without earphones makes me want to throw myself off a ledge. It's just common courtesy -- USE EARPHONES. Why would you think everyone wants to hear what you're watching/listening to (especially when they're all being quiet)?!?! Happens on buses/trains all the time here and I want to throttle people. And one-uppers and people who tell me something is wrong b/c it's different are pet-peeves of mine too. Let's destroy them all together.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I'm going back and making sure I'm not missing any posts! But yes to all of these. People who stop and stand in the middle of an aisle/walkway/aka just in people's way and stopping traffic drive me crazy. People who repost something on FB without checking to see if it's real!

    ReplyDelete
  64. So I don't mind when other people get to the register and can't make up their mind about what they want (unless I'm in a huge hurry), but my gracious, I'm like you when I'm WITH someone like that. I just feel like everyone hates us and wants us to GO AWAY, haha! I always order the same things at coffee shops so this is simple for me, but I have definitely been with people who don't even think about what they want until they walk up to the register. Yikes!

Oh, and the whole stopping abruptly in the middle of the sidewalk/store to look at your phone thing and then being offended when someone bumps into you... *eye roll* seriously, people. Seriously. We saw so much of this while we were in Europe (by other tourists, not the locals). Usually it was when they would stop abruptly to take yet another selfie. Oh, and don't get me started on selfie sticks and the number of times I nearly was impaled by one on this trip. Don't get me wrong, we have a selfie stick and we took it to the Grand Canyon and it was super helpful to get shots that we wouldn't have otherwise been able to get. But we were respectful of other people's space. Anyway, I digress. ;)

  65. I have a lady that sits beside me at work and she hums all the time. Mostly, it's America the Beautiful or the Star Spangled Banner. Shoot me in the head, please. I can't stand when people make noises when they eat. There is an actual name for it- Misophonia. Cory swears I have that because I fuss at him all the time for being a louder eater. UGH!
