July is normally a busy month for us, we normally go to Illinois to spend the 4th with KC's family, and we always just seem to have a lot on. But this July, we didn't. We spent a lot of time at home and saying no to things. No big deal, totally fine, just doesn't make for an exciting post.
I find it hilarious that I basically take the same pictures every time I go to the gym or run. How many different types of gym selfies can you take? I'm just not that creative.
I always have cat pictures, but that is basically all I have this month.
Penny loves to lay in odd spots, and she always has to be close to me.
The top right picture isn't very good but it makes me laugh because seriously, I get into bed and she will lay on top of me, no matter if I am laying on my side or stomach or what.
She's also kind of selfish and can often be found getting in the way of my book or laying on Chelsea.
All 3 of our cats have a signature way they lay - it sounds lame and dorky, but it's totally true. Chelsea always lays like a lady, Penny puts her front paw over her back paw, and Millie does this thing with her front paws that she is not doing in the below picture so I can't explain it.
I take the most photos of Millie, I think, because she follows me everywhere. She also demands undivided attention in the morning, which I gladly give her. I seriously get up a bit earlier just so I can give her some cuddles, which I always seem to document. She really does like being held like a baby, which is too freaking cute.
Our AC went out again, yay, this time it was a more costly repair, double yay. I can handle the heat, no big deal, but KC hates it. We got it fixed quick smart, and when it was back on and working its ass off to cool the house down, I came across Chelsea laying like so:
If you follow me on snapchat you know she sleeps in very odd positions, like most cats. So that wasn't abnormal.
Anyway. Chelsea is the kind of cat that if you put your drink down on the end table, she looks up. She reacts to every sound. So I have to be quick with my photos. But she didn't stir.
So I started lightly touching her belly - again, if you've ever met a cat, you would know they'd wake up immediately, right? She still didn't stir. I was vigorously rubbing her belly, nothing. I had to shake her 3 times before she came to, and when she opened her eyes it was like she was coming out of a coma, not sleep. You guys, it was legit the scariest moment of my life. I know that might seem silly but I was instantly crying and hugging her and she was like omg leave me alone. So yeah. We think she might have just either been in a super deep sleep (KC) or the heat really screwed with her and she wasn't doing too good (me). Either way she is fine now and I've almost stopped crying about it.
The only real thing we went to in July was a birthday luau party, which was fun and a great way to end the month.

This post really should have been called random stories and pictures of my cats. But, we'll go with July recap. If you'd like to link up with us, please do so below!
So, what's new with you?
I like randomness and pics of cats, so it was like you wrote this just for me :)
ReplyDeleteI like knowing that Penny will lay on you know matter how you're laying. That's Astro with me. Except, sometimes, he looks at me, and I swear he's thinking "why don't you just lay on your back for me because it's way more comfortable...." I know you speak "cat", so you understand.
Haha I liked the random post with lots of cats. This is the closest I usually get to cats since I'm slightly allergic (and slightly afraid of them!) and Eric is horribly allergic ... So I enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteI would have died without air conditioning. Or, you know, complained about it every 2 minutes. Haha. The story with Chelsea was really scary (I would've freaked out too!), but I did laugh at the first picture as she was (maybe?) trying to cool off because I thought, "That's probably how I would look if our AC had just started working again." (But less furry, obviously. Haha.) I also love the way she lays like a lady! That's adorable!
The luau party looks fun! Sorry your ac broke and your cat maybe potentially had a weird turn, but I'm glad she's ok now. Sometimes quiet months are good months. I'm going to specifically plan a quiet month later this year. October. There I just decided.
ReplyDeleteAnd really what other way is there to do a gym selfie?! I love the continuity. I think it conveys that with fitness you just have to keep at it. There, I've assigned a deep meaning to your selfies. And I'm out!
I'm glad Chelsea was okay! I hate heat, but I just have to deal with it since there's basically no air con here!
ReplyDeleteSo many kitty pictures!!! I probably would have freaked out about Chelsea not waking up when you were petting her too!!! I know Mac wakes up with every little noise or movement in our house. Sometimes he gives you the side eye for disturbing his slumber and begs for more pets til he falls back asleep. And he legit knocks stuff out of your hands in order to get attention and pets. So I get the selfish thing lol. That stinks about your ac breaking!!! That is the worst. Adult problems are expensive. That birthday party looks fun!
ReplyDeleteI like your gym selfies mostly because it motivates me to get to more body pump classes! I also love seeing what you're wearing..you have the cutest gym outfits :)
ReplyDeleteSo I think that we may have the same rug. Except ours is the yellow/green/blue mix, but the pattern looks VERY familiar.
ReplyDeleteThere have been a few times I've checked Phil to see if he was still breathing. Sometimes I forget that he's getting old and my adventures are just too much for him.
I like all your gym selfies!! And I would have flipped out too with the cat not waking up -- and still be crying about it! Also, you look gorgeous, as usual, at the luau party!
ReplyDeleteI am so entertained by all the similar gym picks- that's hilarious but I totally see how you've worked it into your morning routine!
ReplyDeleteSo scary about Chelsea :( I would be BAWLING, too! I'm so glad she woke up and all is well. It was probably a combination of both sleep and the heat! Poor baby.
I love all your cat pictures :) It makes me feel better about all my dog pictures! Haha!
lol all the cat photos. i just love. jack loves to be held like millie. and he sleeps sometimes just on his back. it cracks me up. he's super needy in the mornings too but only if i get up early. i think he's like "wtf why are we awake" ha. anyway, fun july to just not commit to much. i need to do more of that!
ReplyDeletexoxo cheshire kat
July was really quiet for me as well... and I haven't gotten to the gym in well over 2 week either so def a veryyyy quiet month.
ReplyDeletei think all ACs get together and vow to break on the hottest day of the year, usually close to evening time or the weekend when everything is closed and they charge you overtime/weekend rates, amirite??? ours stopped working as well during the heat wave (of course) but my ac guy knows me and we bond over the love of jamaican food his love for caribbean things so he gave me a discount (thank fuck).
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, you poor thing. I would have cried too about the car acting like that! Glad you were able to get the AC fixed quick - that would be rough in this heat!
ReplyDeleteIzzy isn't even mine and I get worried when she doesn't respond to me so I can't imagine touching her and having her not wake up immediately!! So glad to hear Chelsea is doing well now. Gym selfies for the win!
ReplyDeleteMy dogs pass OUT after being exposed to excessive heat so I'm going with you on that one.
ReplyDeleteLOL @ the gym pics...I mean, what else can you really do? You can't be posing like a loon because it's public and, no.
That birthday party sounds so fun! Millie wanting to be cuddled like that is so cute! :) So glad to hear Chelsea is doing well!
ReplyDeleteMaybe by the end of the year you should make a gym selfie montage and see if you can see any changes in yourself!
ReplyDeleteOh no! That must have been awful. I don't have a cat, but I do have a hamster and one time I thought I saw something wrong with his foot, like it was swollen and I was convinced there was something, the husband eventually picked him up and turns out, it was just his paw being that colour haha. Pets really know how to give you a heart attack!
I LOVE all the cat photos! They are so adorable!

totally sympathize with the freak out over chelsea! just last night i woke up in the middle of the night and heard my big dog making weird noises repeatedly. i started saying his name to wake him up and make sure he was okay and he didn't respond until i was shaking him a little bit and talking really loudly. i'm pretty sure he was just in a deep sleep and had been chasing something in his dream, but still! wasn't too fond of him not waking up easily. :\
ReplyDeleteWorkouts and cats! Very glad to hear that your cat was just in a very deep, possibly heat induced, slumber. that would have freaked me out, too! My late cat (he's been dead for several years) used to sit perfectly uniform, with all his legs tucked underneath him out of sight. From above his body was almost a perfect oval shape. The picture of Penny next to the water pitcher is classic! It's like she's saying, "Yeah, I'm sitting next to a pitcher... You got a problem with that?" Cracked me up!
ReplyDeleteSorry about your AC going out - and during the hotter than normal month that we just had. Glad it's fixed.
Your cats are all so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteMy friend's dog lays "like a lady" with her front paws crossed and it really is adorable. So proper! Pet stuff is scary. I still get upset thinking about Luke's weird leg spasm thing from months ago. Glad she's ok though!
ReplyDeleteI should take workout selfies with Ryan. Lately I've been just not wanting to do it at all, and usually he convinces me despite my whining, but any kind of pick-me-up would be useful!
My Boba also loves being carried around. I'm pretty sure he would ride on my head if he thought he could. I love your cat pictures. I like how Chelsea sits like such a lady. My girl is such the opposite and lays like a guy with her junk all spread out against the rocker stool. I can't blame her for trying to stay cool in the summer.
ReplyDeleteAwww I'm so glad she is okay. Poor kitty. One time my cat accidentally licked his flea medicine and started frothing at the mouth and I thought I had killed him. I was getting ready to call the vet when I realized what happened and read the box. It's fine, it just tastes nasty to them and has that effect I guess. But I'm more careful now.
I'm not a big cat person but your cats take the funniest pictures. And I'm one of those people who cannot stand the heat/humidity so if our air conditioner went out, I would not be a happy camper:)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your cat snaps and seeing all the different cat personalities in your house. They make me feel better about my own :) And sick cats are the worst, you're like are you just being a weird cat or is something REALLY wrong? My vet probably thinks I'm insane.
ReplyDeleteYour cats are so pretty I could cry. Omg, I just luuuurve long-haired kitties! And I haven't wanted a cat since being with Michael since he's allergic and stuff...but now I totally do. Our dogs would eat it though, and I would sob/hate myself, so obviously that can't happen.
ReplyDeleteAll of your cat photos make me so happy. I'm totally a dog person, but love a cute cat, too! :) Your gym selfies are inspiring me. I MISS THE GYM LIFE!
ReplyDeleteThis is great. All the cat pics are amazing. Cats are the strangest animals but I love them. Scali lays like that all the time. He'll be cozy and then get up really quickly and walk like 3 steps and then what we call, "flop" on the ground... and usually ends up on his back like that. I would DIE if my cat wasn't moving. OH MY LORD. Glad she's ok. We've recently had to isolate them in the bathroom with a box because Duchess has taken to being a brat and peeing on the carpet. The vet said it's behavioral... it's the worst. After a WEEK of being put up at night and while we are gone, she effing peed on the carpet last night. Back to square one.. damn it. :( I really want to have a luau. I've been thinking maybe at the end of August! :) XO -Alexandra

Cat lady :)
ReplyDeleteHaha love all the cat pics!! We have a cat named Scout and she's a huge pain in the ass but she's very cute. Their personalities are seriously so entertaining I love how your cats all have their own way of laying. So cute!
ReplyDeleteLove the way Chelsea sits with her paws crossed so ladylike! :-)
ReplyDeleteLuau party looks like fun!
Still not a big cat person, but I love the one with her front paws crossed sitting like a lady. That's pretty precious.
ReplyDeleteI don't love the heat, but would probably survive if the AC went out, though I would NOT turn on the stove for any reason, but I think the BF would literally melt into a puddle on the floor. He loves winter 'cause he can keep the house at like 63. Brrrr.
I love themed parties - if I had my own place I'd throw them all the time!
ReplyDeletePenny looks SO much like my old cat Chewy - its insane! LOVE this post so much because of the abundance of cats! haha
The Hawaiian party looks like so much fun!! I am allergic to cats so they aren't my favourite in person but I love all your pictures of them still - they look so cute and fluffy and fun :) Scary about the heat though!! Glad to hear you had a bit of a laid back month - that sounds really nice :)
ReplyDeleteYou're the crazy cat lady. I'm the crazy dog lady. I like it!
ReplyDeleteI really need to get better about saying no to things. I love getting together and doing things with people, but it always turns into me being super stressed out. It sounds like you had a really great and mellow July, and sometimes that's exactly what you need, especially since you just got back from your cruise. The birthday luau looks like so much fun!
ReplyDeleteWell, you know how I love kitties, so every post can be cat pictures and I'll still read!! I love that Millie lets you hold her like a baby. I've tried with Max but he's not a fan. Boo! My July was pretty quiet overall. It was so dang hot here (which is not normal) that I just felt like being a slug. And I was. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad Chelsea was okay! I would've freaked out too! I love that Millie lets you hold her like a baby. So cute! :)
ReplyDeleteYou know I always approve of cat centered posts. My boy cat, Sitchy, always lays with his front paws crossed. Roxie always lays with her front paws curled under so she looks like a worm. I call her "no feet". And Oreo... well, he pretty much lays like me... taking up as much space as physically possible, or curled in a ball.
ReplyDeleteHaha your cats are super cute! and I totally would have freaked out about Chelsea, too! I had something like that happen with my moms dog and I about had a heart attack!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever noticed your rug before - so cute!! I'm sorry that your cat gave you a scare but so happy she's okay! xo, biana -BlovedBoston
ReplyDeleteSuch a fun month! I really need to save my photos from SnapChat so I can post them next month when I link up. My posts always seem so boring to me.
ReplyDeleteYour gym snaps are always so inspiring especially since you get up and go so early! I'm anything but a morning person, so my workouts are typically at lunch. Happy Friday gurlie <3
ReplyDeleteGreen Fashionista
Sometimes a lower-key month is just what you need, especially during the summer when things are usually so hectic and it's just so damn hot all the time. So sorry about the cat scare but luckily it's all good! Happy August :)
ReplyDeleteSo, to say I'm obsessed with your cats is probably an understatement. I LOVE the photo of the two laying together (or on top of one another haha). Looks like you had a fantastic month!
ReplyDeleteMeg, Borrowed Heaven
This is so inspiring! I love the post:)
ReplyDeletewww.irenethayer.com
I TOTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLY understand your catxiety... that's cat anxiety FYI.
ReplyDeleteThe other day Chanel was lying on our bed TOTALLY out of it and I poked her... no response. Called her name... nothing. Shook her.... nothing. Then I was like OMG is she breathing?!?!?! Wait, wait and then she looks up like WTF?! Can't you see I'm trying to sleep?!
Love all the kitty pics and so happy Chelsea is okay, sounds super scary! It's so funny how we just know our cats......my 18 year old, Diamond has different meows and I know what she wants based on the sound. The luau looks fun too!
ReplyDeleteThat is a super scary moment for any pet parent! I am so glad your kitty was okay!
ReplyDeleteThat being said your cats are so stinking cute! I am a dog person but honestly I would be a major cat person as well if I wasn't allergic! I love how they all sit differently!
Nothing like a bunch of cats and workouts you know? Things dreams are made of!
ReplyDeleteThe luau party sounds fun! We had a pretty low-key July too, and I'll admit, I didn't hate it.
ReplyDeleteQuiet months at home are sometimes much needed! I always love seeing the kitties on snapchat - they crack me up.
ReplyDeletelove those kitties!!!! adorable.
ReplyDeleteHaha so true about gym selfies - I always think this - like how many ways can you take essentially the same picture?! ;) Nothing wrong with a quieter month - I feel like that is our August so far (and a lot of our July lol).
ReplyDeleteYour cats are so cute! Looks like the party was so much fun!
ReplyDelete<3 Shannon
I always love your gym and cat pics!! it's inspiring to see you work out for sure! what a fun party! you look so great :)
ReplyDeleteSometimes low key really is the best! Looks like you still did quite a bit, though :)
ReplyDeleteI love the personality of all the cats--I never noticed they all lay differently, but you're totally right! Happy International Cats Day!
ReplyDeleteYou always have the cutest cat pictures :)
