10 Happy Things

I love to be happy. Well, duh. Doesn't everyone? But really, when things make me happy, big or small, I love it, because being happy makes me happier and it's like a happy circle of happy that never ends. Here's some things that have made me happy recently:

- Friends. Nothing like spending time with your friends.

- Jimmy Johns. I was reading a book the other day (Don't You Cry) and at the start of the book, the character gets a turkey tom from Jimmy Johns and it made me laugh, because that is what I always get (no exaggeration, I do not stray) and it made me want one. I don't know why they taste so good but they do.

- Books. I have been reading like a maniac lately because someone thought it was a bright idea to let me take 50 books home from the library.

^ currently reading this collection of short stories.. I am really not a short story kinda gal, but this one sounded awesome. Badass girls for the win, right? So far there have been more duds than stars, but I'm only about halfway through.

- KC reading. When KC and I broke up in 2011, the one thing I kept saying/sobbing was 'but he likes to read'. I was so upset that I wouldn't find another person who liked to read and liked subtitles and me. It was like the perfect trifecta, so good thing we got back together. He reads every night without fail, and he has read all the books by his favourite author like 27 million times.

- Travel. Next Friday I'm off to see my mum - haven't seen her in over 2 years! I'm excited for where we are going (LA and Vegas), but mostly excited just to see and hang out with her. Okay, and the food she's bringing, I'm excited about that as well.

Sept 2013, mum's last trip to the US (not the last time I saw her, that was our trip home in 2014)

- Bridget Jones 3. Comes out next month and I can't wait. Someone at work said 'oh that Patrick Dempsey, he's so fine' and I was like she better pick Darcy or I will lose my shit. Or something along those lines.

- Netgalley. My Netgalley list has gone down! I had 19 at one point, I think. Now I have 8! I might have gotten rid of a couple because they just really didn't sound good and I don't know why I requested them, and one I tried and just couldn't get into so bye Felicia. But the rest I read, I swear on my love for Jimmy Johns.

- Cats. My cats bring me such joy, which might sound silly, but it's hard not to be happy around animals when they love you, and are cute and fluffy to boot.

^ Millie loves me you guys, but she doesn't love me enough to ever lay on me or the bed. But, she will lay on my nightstand ALL NIGHT. It's adorable and I can't handle the cuteness. Sometimes, in the morning if she knows I'm stirring, she will push her head into mine, which is cute. Or she will meow, which is not cute at 5am. Penny loves to lay on things, whether it is my gym bag or my book. Chelsea loves the car, so we went for a drive the other morning which was great until it started raining, which Chelsea hates. So, that was fun.

- Running. The other day I mentioned my friend would be out of town and I was pretty confident I wouldn't get out and run on my own, let alone 10 miles (what we were supposed to run). But I did! I think it's because I drove to the park instead of running around my own neighbourhood. The following week we ran together and it was way better, but still. Proud of doing it on my own.

This Sunday - 11 miles! I will try and wear a different top.

- This:

Made me laugh so hard. Seriously, it's definitely one of my top ten reasons I love America. JK. Kind of.

What's made you happy lately?

  1. You and your friends are so pretty! Love that you found your perfect trifecta in KC and I can't get enough of your kitty pics........my cats do strange things too which makes them super adorable to me, haha! I can't believe Chelsea loves that car......my Diamond will meow the entire car ride no matter how long the trip is!

  2. You can't turn on red lights in Australia???

Glad you get to see your mom!

Scott and I love subtitles too. Most of the time, if we're going to watch a movie, it's going to be something really obscure with subtitles.

We have JJ here, but I haven't been. Used to go in Missouri and get the veggie sandwich.

  3. So exciting that you get to see your mum! I'm loving spending time with mine right now. Also, I'm so impressed with your mileage. I would actually die if I had to run 10 miles.

  4. I read Dont Temp Me and still need to get to Small Great Things on Netgalley. I love that KC reads too!! That is awesome! Chris reads nonfiction type books for work sometimes but he never reads here at home as a hobby like I do. You have me wanting Jimmy Johns!!! My favorite is the Beach Club with no tomatoes and no mayo add mustard. I hate mayo and tomatoes ruin sandwiches for me. LOL. I know that you and your mom are just going to have the best time!!!

  5. yay for friend time! and reading - and that's adorable that you both just love it so. and mom time so soon! i mean this post is full of lovely things :) have a wonderful weekend girly!

  6. M used to read when he took the train; he's the one who told me to read Memoirs of a Geisha when it came out back in the dinosaur age. That's how long it's been since he's read a book LOL

  7. Selma (my dog) makes me more happy than anything! As much as I love Dan, he just doesn't have the same effect :)

  8. Oh, yes….my kitties will always be my first babies <3 I love them so much (even when they drive me nuts!) By the way…10 miles?! You're a bada$s!

  9. I know you're counting down to see your momma.
If I saw Ricky reading, I'd know an alien has cloned his body. He NEVER reads. hates it.

  11. OK, that gif - YES! Right hand reds all day! As for Jimmy Johns. That place bugs me. My mom and I walked in one day thinking it was pizza. We had never been before, we just assumed. I mean, it sounds like a pizza place. Anyway, we walked out as soon as we realized it was sammiches. Also, kitties bring ALL the joy!

  12. LOL at "But he likes to read"! And yes to right turns on red, friends, and a visit with your mom. Have a fabulous time in LA and Vegas <3

  13. She has to choose Darcy...she just can't not...I will not be a happy camper if she doesn't...

  14. It's funny, I totally know what you mean about being happy making you happy. It's s true! And most of the time it really is the little stuff. I've never had Jimmy John's but I definitely feel that way about some other food.

I agree that it's great KC reads. David doesn't really read. Reading and guys who read are awesome.

Your trip is next Friday already! wooo, have so much fun! I'm incredibly jealous of your trip, honestly.

It is not at all silly that your cats bring you joy. That's why we have pets to begin with! I can't wait for when I live in a place that allows me to get a pup again.

Proud of you for that 10-miler too. Seriously proud. You rock, lady.

    ReplyDelete
  15. If she doesn't pick Mark Darcy I'm going to FLIPPP out. They have to right, I mean, they HAVE to know that everyone feels that way?!

Not at all silly that your cats make you so happy - my dogs are one of the best things in my life. I literally can't even think about the day I have to be without them, it killsss me.

And YAY for seeing your mum!! That is so exciting and I hope you have such a great trip with her :)

  16. 10 miles!! woo hoo!!!! So exciting that you get to see your mom -- that's awesome!! My mom lives in the country, and I still get excited about the food that she brings me!!

    ReplyDelete
  17. My husband LOVES Jimmy Johns. It makes me glad we don't have one in town because he'd always be there. Unfortunately, he does NOT love to read. Haha. It's a point of contention in our house.
Animals are the best- my dogs makes me happy, too.
    I can't believe you haven't seen your mom since 2014! That's insane!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Have you read the third Bridget Jones book where Darcy is dead?!? Unacceptable.
Before I was married I dated a couple non-readers and... The struggle is real!!! That's definitely one of J's good qualities. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  19. Wahhh the BF doesn't read. Unless you count laws & regs for work, or the occasional magazine while he's in the bathroom. He caught my crying reading Me Before You & was confused. Luckily he's content to do yard work or fiddle around with something manly while I curl up in a chair & read.

Also, I can't even imagine going 2 years without seeing my Mom, so I think it is so exciting she'll be here soon!

Right on red is the best (and the occasional left on red when applicable!) Do other places really not have that!?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Darcy FTW!!! I cannot imagine the outrage if she picked otherwise. :) I love your cat pics, and you know that I feel the same way about kitties. They are my happy place! Max will not lay on me either. He is snuggle next to me with my arm around him kind of cat. :) I love that you checked out 50 books at once! I don't think my library allows that many at once, although maybe I ought to test it. LOL! A guy that reads is definitely a keeper and I'm glad that I'm not the only one who rereads favorite books. They are guilt-free comfort food! Have an awesome time with your Mom! The weather in LA has been really good. Sunny but not crazy hot!

  21. LOL turning right at a red light? That's a big thing?

I NEED TO GET OUT AND RUN! I need a running buddy badly. Also, I'm not sure how I feel about the Bridget Jones movie. I loved the old ones and I don't know about this sequel...Also her plastic surgery face is kinda freaking me out.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Yes to Darcy!! I'm excited for that movie. Yay for a trip to see your mom!! I can't imagine being so far away. It must be so hard.

    ReplyDelete
  23. All awesome things! Except I can't get on board with the running. LOL

I can't watch Bridget Jones. I am pissed that she's not still with Darcy.

    ReplyDelete
  24. This post made me happy! I'm so happy that your Mom is coming to visit, you ladies are gonna have so much fun. Plus, she is bringing you food! Always a plus, right? haha If she does not pick Darcy, I may lose it. How can she not? You and KC are so adorable, I love that you both love to read. Seriously, girl you inspire me to read everyday. I mean I may just read a page or two but I still I'm reading, right? haha

    ReplyDelete
  25. Yay for getting to see your mom next week! Sounds like y'all have a great trip planned out, too :) Good luck with your 11 mile run tomorrow.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I haven't been to JJ in forever. I'm the same with with Subway though. I always get the exact same thing. It does not change, nor do I see it changing anytime in the near future. Yay for seeing your mom & awesome food from home!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I WISH Michael would read more. Currently, he's reading HP, so EVERY spare moment he wants to read, which is great, because then I get to read without him whining that I'm not paying attention to him. Ha! But now I'm also like...wait, I miss TV! Hahaha.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I love being able to turn right at red lights...when I see a sign that says "no turn on red", I get furious ;) #roadrage... also! I love how much you love to read. It's amazing! Caleb and I go through phases where we read before bed and I love doing that together. So fun!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Yay for significant others that read! It bugs me when Matt is between books and would rather spend a few evenings watching TV or playing video games rather than read. I keep giving him new book suggestions during that time until he gets the hint. Saw Lilac Girls on your NetGalley list - can't wait to see what you think of it! And double/triple/all the yays for seeing your mum soon. Have a great time! :) I'm super-impressed with you running 10 miles on your own -- I need to do more of my long runs by myself.

    ReplyDelete
  30. That's so cool that KC likes to read. Greg likes to read military books, like memoirs. I am totally not into it, but I'm glad he reads, too. I just requested a few titles from Netgalley after clearing out my shelf a month or two ago. Sometimes I need a break, but now I am maybe ready again. So weird that your cat loves the car. My cats hate it!! Luna was miserable on our last road trip with her, and ended up standing at the windshield while we were driving meowing in unhappiness. Needless to say, not the best place for a cat haha.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Aww KC is the perfect trifecta for you! Love that you guys both love to read so much! :) So many wonderful things on this list to be happy about! Especially seeing your mom so soon! HOORAY! :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. Haha are you not allowed to turn right on a red in Australia?

That's awesome KC loves to read so much. I married an almost non-reader. It bugs me sometimes, but at least he's supportive of my reading habit! ;) When he does read, it's always non-fiction and something boring so we can't even talk about it. At least we like the same shows! Haha.

Yay for getting to see your mom soon! That sounds like a great trip!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Omg! So jealous you got approved for the new Picoult!! Errol doesn't read. I love the picture of you and KC reading. We are totally not that couple but I still have dreams in my head of reading in bed at night with him haha

    ReplyDelete
  34. Oh my gosh two year!? I can't even! And here's to reading and running and cats! And Darcy better win otherwise I'm OUT!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Your hair looks so pretty in that first picture! And yay for getting to see your mom soon-aaaand for the food she's bringing.

    ReplyDelete
  36. You and your girl friends are so pretty! I hope you have a wonderful time spending time with your mom! I know how it is living far away and, in our case, in different countries. LA and Vegas sound amazing!!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Lots of favorites and positive posts today and I love it! Such a nice break from all the negative news. Your couples reading picture is adorable. I wish I could get Ryan to read, but I have to accept that video games are to him what books are to me. And I'm glad we can play games together. I'm reading like crazy, too! Although my crazy probably looks a bit different from yours, but it makes me happy. Right now I'm reading Diary of a Chambermaid and it's not what I expected. All sex and scandal and, as far as I can tell so far, no real point to any of it.

    ReplyDelete
  38. What a beautiful group of ladies! Isn't it nice when you find someone who enjoys the same things you do? And that's such a sweet photo of the two of you! I hope you enjoy your trip with your momma - I know you two are so excited to spend time with each other! Have a great weekend!

    ReplyDelete
  39. I love that KC loves to read! stephen does not, I wish he did. it's hard for me to read with the tv on next to me ;) I love your comments about being happy. pretty sure life is 99% your attitude and choosing to be happy is where it's at! xx

    ReplyDelete
  40. This is such a sweet post! I'm happy to see you so happy! I can't believe your trip with your mom is next week already, yay! Isn't it the cutest when husbands love to read?! Ryan is the same way, and I'm a fan. And, yes to BJD 3 and Darcy - they better get back together!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Just added the new Jodi Picoult book to my Goodreads list. I also have the Lilac girls on my list! It sounds really good! I bet your visit with your mom will be great - and you're visiting two awesome cities! Pets are the best. My day is so much better when I get to spend time with my pooch. Congrats on your run - that's awesome/nuts!

  42. I'm so excited for you to spend time with your mom! I sometimes go a year or so without seeing mine (and we both live in the U.S.!), so I know that it can feel like FOREVER. I hope you guys have the best time! :-)

I love that KC also loves to read! (And I absolutely love that picture of you two!) I wish Eric liked it more. He reads, but mostly nonfiction science/math related books (nerd alert!) or science magazines. I always get him a subscription to Scientific American for Christmas. It's just an automatic renewal now. :-) He can't get into fiction for some reason, though I do have a cute story about when we first met. So when we met, we obviously talked about some of our favorite things and I was telling him how much I love Chuck Palahniuk (I'd literally just met him at a book signing a week or so before I left for my China trip). On his way home, he bought two Chuck Palahniuk books in an airport bookstore because he said he thought it might help him know me better since he could experience something I loved. Those weren't his exact words, but it was something like that. I thought it was adorable.

You're kicking ass with the running! I need to start incorporating cardio back into my workout routine. I actually just need to get back into a workout routine in general. I was doing so well for a couple of months, but this month I've just kind of been like whatever. It's hard to get back into the groove of things when you know you have some travel and out of town guests (my mom!) in the upcoming months, but hopefully I can figure something out. I feel so much better when I'm more active!

  43. Cats and books - life doesn't get much better! And, Bridget better pick Darcy...

    ReplyDelete
  44. BAHAHAHA!! I just LOL to that last meme. HILARIOUS!!! And this coming from an American. I wish we lived in the same place...like seriously. As I was reading as I was thinking...oh that makes me happy too, oh me too, me too, ME TOO!!! We could be besties! lol JK (kind of) And I am so excited to see Bridget Jones 3. I could watch 1 and 2 once a month and not get sick of it. Yay for things that make us happy!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Your cats are adorable. I have one cat who is 10 months old and she definitely makes me happy. I like to read too but it seems I haven't as much as I used to.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Hooray for happiness and YAY for time with your Mum! How exciting!!!!!

Funnily enough - I don't think Jesse even realised the red light turning business when he moved here as I don't think there's actually too many sets of traffic lights where you can turn in Central Louisiana :P

    ReplyDelete
  47. Seriously the same order too. And I don't stray either!! I had no idea about the red light rule being onlyin the US!! I truly hope to get your love of running one day!!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Your cats always crack me up on Snapchat. Why are they so mischievous!? I am so excited for you and your mom to come out West!! LA & Vegas will be fun and the weather (at least in SoCal...can't speak for Vegas) is amazing right now. Your girlfriends are all so pretty and have such great hair and cute outfits. Can I be friends with you guys? ;) Also...where have I been? A third Bridget Jones? I had no idea but I definitely want to see it!

    ReplyDelete
  49. You haven't seen your mom in two years?! Oh no, I'd die. And you're kinda inspiring me to want to run again... I haven't run more than 3 miles since I had kids, actually since I was pregnant with the first and that was like 3 years ago now. Maybe I should get back into it this winter... And that last meme is hilarious! Also kinda true, mostly not, but culturally, yeah that's all we've done of any quality ;)

    ReplyDelete
  50. I love this list! Yayy for your trip with your mom being so close! I can't imagine how excited you are to see her, I'm sure you guys will have an amazing time. I actually don't think I ever saw the first Bridget Jones-- and definitely didn't even know there was a second one, haha, but the previews for the new one look cute. Totally impressed with your netgalley list-- you will be done to zero in no time-- or just in time to start requesting new fall/winter books :)

    ReplyDelete
  51. that cat collage just gave me LIFE. So cute and funny and I would die if my pet was on the nightstand all night - ahhhhhh, so, so, so cute! That makes me want a cat even more. And I did a big "aww!" in my head of your break up cries. Poor girl! I'm glad you guys got back together too! Sounds like it's a match. My husband reads every night as well while I'm generally up blogging... :) You look great!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Cats. Enough said. And your cat snaps make my day.

    ReplyDelete
  53. She better pick Mr. Darcy or I will seriously lose it! My husband prefers audiobooks which is okay but I wish he could just sit and read with me sometimes!

    ReplyDelete
  54. I am so excited for Bridget Jones's Baby - it's going to be great (I event mention it in my post tomorrow LOL). So fun that you are going to see your mom this week - so excited for you! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston

    ReplyDelete
  55. All of these things make me happy too!
Okay, wait, not all of them. Jimmy John's is a competitor to a few sandwich shops that my aunt and uncle own (theirs are called "Jersey Mike's"), so I'm supposed to be anti-Jimmy John's.
And, although KC reading has nothing to do with me, it makes me happy for you that he reads so much and understands the love of stories.
And, I hate running...but it makes me happy for you the sense of accomplishment it gives you.
But, you know, cats & books & your mum visiting & travel & that gif! All of those make me happy too!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Love this - love seeing what makes others happy! Life is good . . . what a blessing!

    ReplyDelete
  57. I LOVE this list, and I LOVE the picture of you both reading. So cute. We need to schedule it in more because my KC loves to read too and has been reading things I recommend (among other things) within the past year... but you know.. netflix happens... and plans happen (too often) and so we don't both get to read a lot. It's a goal. :) Books, Travel and Cats are pretty much my three favorite things after KC. So I totally agree there, and yes I will also lose my shit if Bridget doesn't pick Darcy. I need to get to reading the rest of those.... hmm... dilemma. Yay for your netgalley queue.. mine is somewhere close to yours now... but I am making zero progress since June. Must read netgalley books. Other things that make me happy: Sangria, time at home, gilmore girls, and movie nights with KC. :) XO - Alexandra

  58. Hooray for happy things! A trip with your mom sounds like so much fun :) Your comment about KC cracked me up! I can't wait for the new Bridget Jones either :)

  59. You're going to have so much fun with your mom on your trip, and I can't wait to see everything that y'all do! I'm so jealous that KC reads! Chris doesn't really read at all, unless I force him or if it's a magazine, so I would love if he loved to read as much as I did!

    ReplyDelete
  60. I'm extremely late to the party here, but this is a great list of happy things! Yay for your Mum's visit, reading, a husband who reads (it really is a rarity!) but I have no idea what Jimmy Johns is. And now I need to know.
