Spring Goals Report/Summer Goals

I made a lot of goals for Spring. As usual, I probably failed more than I passed, but I still love setting goals because they make me think about things, like do I actually want to give up soda (nope), how much money do I really save without shopping (a lot), do I really need that piece of cake (nope).

Linking up with Steph - I think of my seasons the same way we do at home (so Summer started the 1st of June for me) but I wanted to link up so I waited.

Life According to Steph

My Spring goals (March-May).

- No shopping in March. Be reasonable in April and May if I 'have' to shop.
Fail - I shopped in March, April and May.

- No (paying for) eating out for lunch.
Fail - Lets just say that I keep jimmy johns in business.

- Continue working out consistently but up the effort.
Pass-ishWhen I did my 'work out for 31 days in a row' some days were barely workouts, they more like walks on the treadmill. But they did what I wanted them to do - formed that habit, and now working out really is as routine to me as brushing my teeth. I have been trying to push myself a little harder with every workout, so I'd definitely say I did okay with this one.

- Organise photos for future photobook orders.
Fail - Maybe next time.

- Reduce current debt by 15%.
Pass! Not only did I reduce debt by 25%, I closed a card. I know that everyone says not to do that, but I can 100% guarantee that I would just max it out again (which I have actually done before), so I really don't care about the hit to my score (it's a mess anyway, what with me basically being a 3 year old in the eyes of the US government and having debt in the first place). So HELL YEAH.

- Increase savings so that it is triple our 'norm' from last year.
Fail - We were double from our norm and then we bought a TV and had a few other expenses, and then we just had a lot going on in May so haven't caught up yet.

- Declutter and purge like a mad woman.
Pass - I kept putting this off and then at the start of May I realised I wasn't going to be able to do it for like 2 months because we were going to be quite 'busy' (for us). So I spent a weekend doing it, which I know a lot of people dig the bit by bit, but I'm more of a get it all done in one day and then don't touch it for a year kind of person.

- Lose weight.
Pass/Fail didn't give myself an exact number because I didn't want to feel like I failed. But I lost weight, then I gained it, then I lost it, and then I gained it again. So. That was fun.

- Train properly for my half marathon.
Fail - I did not train properly at all. At all. I still ran it though and had a good time.

- Try and eat well.
Fail-ish - March was a shit show, April wasn't very good besides the no sweets etc but and May was kind of all over the place. I am not binge eating, I am not eating 'treats' every day, but I am also not eating enough fruits & veg, and I am eating waaaaay too much.
Life According to Steph

Now onto Summer goals (June-August).

- Increase savings and stick to my payment plan. I want to get to triple our norm/minimum in savings. Also, I have an excel spreadsheet detailing all the payments I need to make in order to pay off my credit card debt this year. I had it last year, I just didn't stick to it.
^ I wrote that before a lot of shit went down, including getting hit by an unlicensed, uninsured driver.. so... I don't know about this one right now.

- Meal plan and eat fruit & veg with every meal. I know meal planning will reduce our grocery budget and help us make better choices, less frozen pizzas. I would like to eat fruit or veg with every meal, which really isn't as hard as it sounds.

- Run 3 times a week. My next half marathon isn't until October but I have to run consistently if I ever want to get better.

- Get rid of 100 things. Yep, why not. I don't care if they go on ebay, to goodwill or in the bin, but out they go.

- Do something new in Louisville. Self explanatory.

Bonus: Have a great time on our cruise. Eat all the food. ALL OF IT. Drink all the fruity cocktails. Be a sloth and a glutton, I don't care! But once I get back, straight back into eating like a normal person and exercising kind of normally.

I decided to try and make less goals because the 'make all the goals' doesn't seem to be working too well for me. I've also been working towards them already because of the whole 'I have to be difficult and think of seasons the way I always have' thing I have going on. At least I'm consistent, right?

I am not normally the kind of person that says I 'need' a drink, or I 'need' the weekend, or I 'need' a vacation. I like drinks, weekends and vacations, but I never have such a stressful life or hard job that I need those things to recover. But all the shit has hit the fan lately, the wreck was just the cherry on top. I am not in the best place right now because of it, and I really do think I need a drink this weekend which just so happens to coincide with the start of my vacation. I am hoping it will be the reset I need.

Hope you all have a good weekend - I will be oversharing on snapchat (kristenlees122) and instagram as usual, because if you can't overshare when you're on holiday, when can you?

  1. You accomplished a lot girl! I love that you paid off, and reduced by 10% more than your goal. Sometimes closing cards is what you have to do. Good luck on your goals this Summer!!

  4. Go you on the credit card!! That's a huge accomplishment!

  5. I think closing a card is smart. If don't have it you can't run it up again, I never trust myself! Good job. You have insipred me to set some summer goals!

  6. I think I missed the wreck somewhere along the way. I am so sorry. And I hope your vacation cures what ails you.

    Great job paying down debt!

  7. Paying so much debt off is fantastic! The epitome of #adulting , but whatevs.

And I'm sorry to hear things are shitty. Uninsured // unlicensed drivers happen way too often & that's the worst. You said earlier in the week you're both okay, which is good, but it's all still bullshit since it sounds like you all didn't cause the wreck. But, escape from all that, enjoy the cruise! Eat a shrimp cocktail & drink a girly drink for me!

  9. Go you!! Closing a card is smart if you know it's just going to mess with you later! Have the MOST wonderful time on your cruise! EAT EVERYTHING, DRINK EVERYTHING and just be hella happy! <3

  10. Heck yes on closing the card! Getting debt down is awesome. Curious why you guys are on a mission to save more, as opposed to using that money to pay off your debt? (I love to hear about people's financial reasonings, ignore it if it's too personal!)
Have you read the Marie Kondo tidy book? She agrees with you - declutter all at once.
So sorry about the wreck, that is the worst :( I hope the cruise will help you reset and start feeling better.

  11. Sorry to hear about your wreck, but please please enjoy yourself on your vacation! You are going to have so much fun -- and I can't wait to see all the delicious things you eat/drink.

  12. I also seemed to have missed the wreck news- so sorry! And unlicensed/uninsured? UGH. I hope you get everything worked out. Fruity cocktails count as 'fruit with every meal' right?! As for the workouts/training, forming the habit is the hardest part, so definitely a pass! CONGRATS on paying down that card! Hope you have a wonderfully gluttonous vacation!

  13. Hope you feel better after your weekend & vacation!! I think your goals for this summer are great! I think it's good you closed the card, if you know you'll use it if you don't then you're way better off closing it than keeping it around!

  14. Congrats on completely paying off your credit card debt! That's huge! I love that one of your goals for this summer is to enjoy yourself on your cruise! The last thing you should be doing on vacation is worrying about how much you're eating or drinking!

  15. Yay for paying off so much of your credit card debt- I feel like that pass counts as more than most of the other fails! I've been so bad about eating fruits and vegetables like 80% of the time- even when I buy them, I just end up not wanting them so they go to waste. I am soooo excited for your cruise (or to hear about it, haha). I hope you guys have the best time and can just relax and enjoy!

  16. I love snap overshares :) Share away! These are good goals though. I really need to buckle down on the eating well thing. I hit the gym 3x a week and do yoga 1-2x a week and yet the scale doesn't move. #struggle

  17. It sounds like your vacation couldn't start at a better time! I have never been on a cruise, but hell yeah would I have to bring the fat pants and Muumuu dresses. :) I also struggle with setting too many goals and then feel overwhelmed by them. Now I try to keep it to just a few, which helps, although I'm still not great with keeping personal goals. Great job on getting rid of debt and hitting the big workout goal. Those are huge wins! Have a wonderful vacation and think of me when you're enjoying all the wonderful food!

  18. Reducing 25% of your debt is freakin' awesome! I mean, it's like HELL YEAH! awesome! Congrats to you! Enjoy your cruise and enjoy the experience!

  19. I am always in awe of people like you that dont train for a half marathon & get out there & ROCK IT. Impressive.

  20. Great job! You did a lot and even if you didn't quite hit some of the goals, at least you thought about it. That's the first step! Good luck with your summer plans - so happy for you that it is vacation time! Enjoy!

  21. I think you have done a great job on your goals! Reducing your debit is so important. It takes time but you will do it. I totally think you should overindulge when on vacation! haha I'm such a bad influence. How did I not know you were on SnapChat?? Off to follow you.

  22. YAY for vacation! & yay for progressing on some of your goals! I feel like I had all sorts of high hopes and goals with our new house... and now it's more like a hit or miss on the goals while I manage to lock myself into a bathroom. All fun things, you know? :)

    ReplyDelete
  23. I also keep Jimmy John's in business. It's ridiculous! Yay for some goal progress though! Can't wait to hear all about your cruise!!

  24. Enjoy your vacation, girl! Have a drink or two. Instead of thinking of all the bad that's happened think of how this vacation is arriving at JUST the right time! And you're definitely not the only one in credit-card-debt-world. Ugh.

  25. Your goals are too severe and harsh. You need to set some goals like wake up, shower, eat, breathe. Just kidding but your goals are pretty tough. Good job on meeting most! If you want help with your credit score let me know. Billy and I had bad credit years ago and I fixed it. I picked up some tricks along the way I can share with you. Now my credit is 815. #dropsmic Have a great weekend! xo

  26. Yay for the cruise!!! So jealous over here! I think you win all the goals for reducing your debt more than planned! That is awesome. I have been eating fruit like a crazy person since all the stuff is in season right now. It's my favorite!!! Good luck with your summer goals :)

  27. Way to go on minimising that debt, girl!

Ohhhh how I wish I could set a goal to get rid of 100 things :P I am a serious clutter hater because I live in a family of clutterbugs. When we're cleaning, Jesse feels like he has to watch me or I just throw out all the things :P

I hope you have an incredible holiday, girl! <3

  28. I've found that being very specific helps. If you hold yourself to one thing, you won't feel bad if you "break" on something else.
I closed a card once too because I kept forgetting to pay (I'm really irresponsible). I didn't have a credit card for like 5 years and now Scott got me one a few months ago to improve my score. I use it and I pay on it every two weeks. Growing up is hard...

I love the idea of throwing away 100 things.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Apparently it's vacation week for everyone! I'm going on vacation too! (I mean, to Wisconsin...so not quite as glamorous as a cruise, but still! Ha!) I have been SO BAD about eating fruits and vegetables. Actually, I've been bad at groceries in general. I've just been so impatient/cheap grocery shopping that I just don't buy things that I really need and then I'm starving and then I just eat a bunch of chips or something and it's bad. I really need to do a no-shopping month. I was doing really well this month...until I wasn't anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I'm so sorry to hear you're not in the best place right now! Wishing all the best for you. I love your idea of throwing away 100 things! I hope you have the BEST time on the cruise. Can't wait to hear all about it!

  31. Hooray for reducing debt! I like to close my cards, too. I don't need anymore temptation :)

  32. I applaud you for making goals. I never do it. I'd just set myself up to fail. You deserve that drink I think! I hope you weren't hurt in the accident! Awful.

  33. Great job on your debt pay off!! That's amazing! You know I'm a big Dave Ramsey fan so hearing anything about paying off debt makes me giddy! Great job girl!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I'd say you did a great job at working out even if it wasn't full throttle on some days. Just creating the habit of going is a great way to get on track. Go you for reducing your debt by 25% that's pretty amazing to accomplish in 3 months and one less thing to worry about.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Yay for reducing debt! That is so hard to do. My biggest thing for this summer is to save money. We've been spending soooo much with all of the baby stuff and I know we're about to get hit with some serious hospital/medical bills, so after that we need to save save save. Hope you're having a good weekend!

  36. Way to go on getting rid of that card! It feels pretty good to pay off some of debt & see the balance as $0! I recently cancelled two cards because I knew I would be tempted to use them (ahem, Old Navy card..). I'm so sorry about the accident. :( I definitely know the feeling. Did they at least stick around for the police report? I was hit by a guy who I believe was undocumented (he couldn't show me an ID & didn't have any insurance) & he ended up taking off before the police showed up. I had to total my car because of it but it's SO frustrating to have to deal with insurance & not knowing what is going to happen! I hope everything turns out okay though! AND ENJOY YOUR VACATION!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  37. It's smart to set few goals, but I think you are too hard on yourself! Holy cow - paying off a credit card - man, doesn't that feel good? And I'm with you, when I was younger and paid them off, I canceled them. Now we only have a couple we use that collect miles and no store cards - well, except Target and Kohl's. And stupid uninsured drivers. Well, you're cruising so forget all that noise and enjoy!!!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Great goals! I've gotten so much better at working out and eating better, but not so much on the saving money and decluttering/cleaning out junk. Hope you have a blast on your vacation!

And I totally think of the beginning of June as the start of summer too.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Yes to the big purge! We're in the midst of doing the same thing, and it helps so much to just get shit out of the house. I think all your goals for the summer are totally doable, too. Um, you did NOT tell me that the shithead that hit you was uninsured ... great. I hope you're having 50 cocktails a day on your cruise.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I visited Louisville last year and I think I'm going to go back soon! I hope you post that new thing that you end up doing! And good luck with the Great Purge of 100 items haha!

  41. Hello to the cruise! And a chance to properly indulge!! ;) I so need to purge more, eat better, and save more... But well, life is also meant to be lived a little!!

  42. Good job on all of your goals! It's tough to change and improve all aspects of your life all at once. I hope you're having a blast on your cruise because you deserve it :) Have all the tasty food and drinks!!

    ReplyDelete
  43. I'm working on the whole photobook thing. I went through my old dropbox account, but I still have a couple other accounts to go through and order prints of pics. Yay for financial goals! Mine is to hopefully pay off my car soon. Also, purging is awesome. Get rid of all the things!

    ReplyDelete
  44. LOL "If you can't overshare on holiday, when can you?" You're doing a great job of tracking your goals, even if some of them aren't going the way you want. Hopefully the cruise will bde just the thing you need to reset and start fresh when you get back!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Ugh the other driver was unlicensed and uninsured?! How is that even allowed :( sorry you have to deal with that. I hope it doesn't impact on your savings/debt goals too significantly.

Between travels and short spells at home between travels, my meal planning and healthy eating game has flown completely out of the window. I'm not on holiday any more! I need to get a handle on it!

    ReplyDelete
  46. These are all really awesome goals. Eat ALL the things on the cruise. Because you can - and because it is delicious. Enjoy yourself!

    ReplyDelete
  47. A walk on the treadmill is most definitely a workout! I think it's just important to listen to your body. Way to surpass your debt goal! That's awesome! We need to do some serious de-cluttering in our house. I thought I had a hard time letting things go, but Tom is so much worse. So much stuff!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Man, that sucks about your accident! Do y'all have uninsured insurance? We got it when we moved to Texas (not a "no fault" state like MN was, and it sounds like KY is the same). It basically is a rider on your policy that costs a few extra bucks a month. If some douche hits you and doesn't have insurance, you pay a $250 deducible and your car gets fixed. Then your insurance goes after the loser without insurance... And if/when they get their money back, you get your $250 back. It's ESSENTIAL for at-fault insurance states.

K, I'll stop sounding like an insurance saleswoman now. I'm loving your vacay snaps!

    ReplyDelete
  49. I love your summer goals! That's such a shame about getting hit by an uninsured driver! I hope you get everything sorted! I definitely need to meal plan and stick to it - I always meal plan (I'm such a planner), but then I get home from work and just can't be bothered to actually cook anything, so we order a takeaway! Not good!
Ooh and enjoy your cruise too - they're the best!

  50. I've seen some pics and hope you are having a blast! Looks like you are! Glad you are getting a vacation, especially if things have been stressful. Unfortunately my current work situation (3 years..) is really stressful and crappy all of the time. :( So, perhaps that's why we travel so much. Hoping to make more time for reading soon. I didn't read as much as I sometimes do on our travels. I could really use a fun day or two of reading. :) Love the goals, glad to see you still made progress in spring even if you didn't excel at everything. :) Progress is where it's at! :) I'm doing ok with goals. Horribly with exercise... but OK with food. Maybe? It's so hot that I barely want to eat anything. Except like watermelon and cucumbers. LOL Good luck with your summer goals! XO - Alexandra

  52. Get rid of 100 things?! Ah. That is intense. But we're moving this summer... I think I need to try to do something similar. I am definitely going to be *very* picky about the things we pack (keep) and the things we donate. We have too much stuff and I was a fresh start.

Super congrats on lowering your debt - that's amazing! We're working on that too. Hopefully my husband will be employed soon... which will help TONS.
