The exact dress with a different name. I immediately sent a snap to Laura like omg look what I found and she told me to buy it, so I did and blame her. Unfortunately, it was too short... and I sent it back. Womp womp.

Beauteous Beach Comber Maxi Dress |
I think it was also a bit big on me, it didn't sit right. If I had gone down a size, it would have been even shorter. I know the length doesn't look that bad, but really, I just want a maxi to hit my feet at least, the ground preferably. I don't think that is too much to ask! I wanted to include it in this post even if I didn't get it from stitch fix, because Laura did.
Anyway. So that was a bit sad, but I was able to change my note to my stylist (I seriously was like GIVE ME THIS DRESS OR I WILL NEVER SPEAK TO YOU AGAIN) to something a little less crazy, but I was unable to cancel the fix as it was too late. I just changed my note to my stylist to ask for dresses - I could receive all dresses and be perfectly happy. I told them I like maxis and fit & flares, but nothing too short. I also updated my stitch fix style board on pinterest, it had dresses, tops and midi skirts on it.
I was honestly shocked when I got the notification and took a sneak peak and saw that they were all dresses. I always said that if stitch fix sent me all dresses, I'd likely keep them all because dresses are my favourite. I am much more likely to fall in love with a dress, or spend more on a dress, vs a top or whatever. So I was pleasantly surprised that they actually listened to me.
So let's have a look shall we..
Skies are Blue Laine Dress $68
Nope.
Brixon Ivy Tommi Sweater Dress $98
This dress was super cute. It was not $100 cute. I loved the style, the fit, the pattern, that super cute skirt - but again, not enough to justify the cost. Also, the material was SUPER thick. It's a sweater dress, so duh. But still - the style screams summer to me, but the material was all winter. That plus the cost made this a no go for me, but if those things were different, I'd have kept it.
Gilli Adalea Dress $58
This dress looks remarkably similar to one I received in my Golden Tote, probably because they are the same brand. This one just didn't do it for me though. The top was weird (my friend asked if it was a nursing dress) and the bottom half was not as flowy or flattering as the one in my Golden Tote.
Maggy London Jovanie V-Neck Eyelet Dress $98
My stylist mentioned that she saw an eyelet dress on my pinterest board, and even though this was above my price range, she wanted to send it to me just in case. Even without it being almost $100, it's just not my jam. It stuck out weird at the side, maybe that's the way it was mailed, who knows. This seemed liked a good dress in theory - eyelet, fit and flare... but eh. The colour underneath was fun but it wasn't as obvious in real life as in photos. It also wasn't tight enough in the waist, and had too much flare at the bottom. It is a fine line between fit and flare vs loose and too full at the bottom, and if you're not careful you'll end up looking like an upside down toilet paper doll.
London Times Nicola Dress $58
This was the only dress I considered keeping. The print wasn't really my jam, the material was odd, it was too loose at the waist.. it was cute, and I liked the neck, but I didn't love it. I couldn't see myself actually wearing it, and I'd rather lose $20 than spend more on a dress I won't wear. I would have kept it if it were a bit tighter in the waist, a different material and pattern. I swear I'm not as picky as I am sure I am coming across...

I don't always have the best luck with stitch fix on the stylist/items side, but I think their customer service is top notch. My first fix, there was a mark on my dress and they gave me 15% off or offered to send me a replacement. This fix, I realised I had (stupidly) scheduled it for the same day as KY Oaks, and I wouldn't be at work to receive it, and wouldn't get it until Monday - which is when I had to send it back. So I asked them to move it up, and they did! I was surprised, again. I was ready to be like well screw you I'm not even opening it, so I'm glad they were able to move it up for me, even if I didn't end up keeping anything.
I am a bit bummed that this is the first fix that I didn't like anything enough to keep. It's probably for the best for my wallet, though I am cranky I wasted $20. I don't know when my next fix will be.
Do you like any of the items I received?
i really liked the last blue one - then again, maybe it's because i'm an old hag and i like those kind of prints?
ReplyDeleteI've lost my $20 twice in 13 fixes. Oh well.
ReplyDeleteAnd I canceled my Stitchfix for the summer. No need to buy things I won't be wearing, right?
I want to like that eyelet dress, but fit is everything.
I really loved the way the blue and white sweater dress looks on you but I totally understand that you didn't like that it was heavy and cost so much. I agree on both those things. The rest of the stuff is just meh and I would have passed too.
ReplyDeletesorry about the maxi dress :( It's funny, I usually have the opposite problem - everything is way too long.
ReplyDeleteAnd stitch fix... I'm not sure i'll ever jump on that bandwagon. Honestly, it just seems expensive. I rarely ever spend $100 on a dress. Plus, I like shopping for myself :)
I follow Erin & Rachel, but the other bloggers are new to me. I'll have to check them out :)

ugh bummer you didn't keep anything but you have to LOVE it, says moi. and that second dress though - that is super cute on you! very flattering :) thanks for sharing your review!
ReplyDeletexoxo cheshire kat
It's too bad that none of the dresses worked out for you! A bunch of them looked promising but you're right, unless you love it there is no reason to get it. I think the reason I've never tried Stitchfix is because I don't wanna lose $20 if I don't love anything.
ReplyDeleteI love the top part of the last blue dress - too cute! But this is probably the reason that I haven't done stitch fix. I would find nothing I liked in the box and would be sad about the $20 spent on it :(
ReplyDeleteHahaha. I would like the dress if literally everything about it was different. But seriously. I actually like the print of the last dress. It looks super cute on, but I can see in the second pic how the fit may not be the best.
ReplyDeleteThat's the big thing stopping me from doing something like Stitch Fix. Is wasting my $20, or them sending me things that I fall in love with but are more than I want to spend.
I am in love with the way that sweater dress looks. I'm with you though, there's no way I could justify spending that much money on a dress...especially since it's basically summer & a sweater dress isn't going to fly in the heat.
ReplyDeleteThe cut of the last dress is so flattering on you, but I get that it was a little loose in the waist area, and I can't say that I'm a fan of the print either. That black and white dress does look like a nursing dress, lol, so good call on not keeping that one. Sorry that you are out the $20!
ReplyDeleteI always have the worst luck with Stitch fix. Everyone gets cute stuff and I'm always left with a bunch of garbage haha! Sorry you didn't like anything enough to keep it :(
ReplyDeleteI actually love that first one (not the maxi - the A-line dress) it reminded me of the old fashion stewardess outfits :)
ReplyDeleteEverything looks so cute on you!
I'm the same way though - I cant make myself pay $100 for a dress. I'm cheap like that.
I hate when things are just a little off...I can deal with that sometimes when I get a dress at Marshalls for $15, but not $60-$100 dresses.
ReplyDeleteThat maxi dress is cute, too bad it didn't work out on you. They never work out for me. I'm too short and stout for them. I haven't tried Stitch Fix because I'm scared that nothing would work out for me and it would be a waste of money. I have the same problem when I buy clothes online. They look cute on the model but look terrible on me when I get it.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on the "sweater dress"...super adorable but NOT worth $100. Stitch Fix has some insane prices and that's one of the reasons I never signed up for it. Plus I feel like most people end up not liking any of the pieces that they get. And I agree about your last dress. It was cute and you might wear it like once a year. If it was $30 totally worth it. Not for almost $60.
ReplyDeleteBummer about that sweater dress! It looks like a fun print and looks cute, but I agree what were they thinking making it a sweater dress when it's a summer print?! I am afraid of doing any more fixes in fear of not liking anything!
ReplyDeleteBummer that first dress was too short! It is so cute!
ReplyDeletewww.amemoryofus.com
Sorry that the first dress didn't work out, but they definitely sent you a lot of pretties! But like you said not worth $100.
ReplyDeleteGreen Fashionista
I really like those last two dresses. I don't think the eyelet one is too bad, although the color sticking through kind of looks like a bra or underwear colors popping through, haha!
ReplyDeleteI've gotten 3 or 4 Stich Fix boxes but none were very successful. I think I kept one item from each. I never felt like the stylists looked at my Pinterest board or listened to my feedback/requests. I do like the last dress but if it wasn't just right you won't ever wear it! My new rule is don't buy/keep anything I don't love. I miss wearing dresses - Just not very practical these days with being on the floor so much with my kids.
ReplyDeleteI've never understood why they make sweater dresses for the summer. It's too bad because that was really cute on you. As someone who used to buy things a bit compulsively, I agree that it's not worth buying, no matter how cheap or how much you like the dress, if you don't like it on you. I've donated way too many bags of clothes with price tags still attached for that very reason.
ReplyDeleteI've never tried this, but I've seen a lot of people lately not have a lot of luck with them. Hopefully if you try it again you'll have better luck!
ReplyDeletehmm tough! The "nursing one" didn't look bad until you did a closer up shot. That is strange. I really like the hawaiian print/palm leaf one. I seem to be into those prints lately... hehe But I can understand why you did not keep them! Better luck next fix. :) XO - Alexandra
ReplyDeleteSimply Alexandra: My Favorite Things
I personally really like the eyelet dress, but if it doesn't fit right then you definitely shouldn't keep it. That sucks that the maxi dress you really had your eye on wasn't long enough! Tall people problems, right?
ReplyDeleteSuch a bummer about finally getting all dresses and not keeping one. I cannot believe that skater dress is $100! It's cute, but you're right not $100 cute! I'm sure you could find one at Nordstrom that's just as cute for a fraction of the price!
ReplyDeleteThey do have great customer service! Too bad none of the dresses worked...
ReplyDeleteI like the way that several of these look on you, but I totally get not wanting to spend that much $$ on something you don't absolutely love.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I am with you on maxi dresses! I love them, but it's so hard to find ones that are long enough. #tallgirlprobz
Haha, I have the opposite problem with maxi dresses. There are always like four inches too long for me. I agree with all your comments on the dress (cracked up on upside down toilet paper roll!). I really love the style of that last dress, but I'm with you on the pattern.
ReplyDeleteSo it costs $20 to get the selection whether you keep any or not? What about shipping unwanted items back -- is that included or was that the $20? I'm intrigued by having someone else select items for me but I have doubts it'd work well for me -- weird body shape. The dresses were all cute - but yea, if you don't like them, I wouldn't have bought them either.
ReplyDeleteI agree the dress from ModCloth is took big on you and too short. HOWEVER, I think you look really cute in all of the other dresses. I like them all.
ReplyDeleteAshley
acutelifestyle.blogspot.com
I really like a few of these, especially the last one. I am sort of a cheap skate though because I do not like spending $60 and up on dresses. Maybe because I do not wear them enough. Long dresses never look good on my body type and I wish I could pull it off as well as you.
ReplyDeleteUgh, I feel you on the maxi dress length issue. Happens to me allll the time. If I find a cheapo dress (like £5 from a charity shop) then I'll style it out with some obnoxious sandals and make a feature out of it but no way am I spending real money on something too short.
ReplyDeleteYou had a pretty strange selection, I'll give you that. My favourite is actually the nursing dress one, maybe I'm just naive but that's not something that would have crossed my mind! Although I suppose once you've thought it you can't unthink it...
Haha I can see where you are with Skies Are Blue Laine Dress. What a strange-cut dress.. not sure who that was made for. I would nope it, too. The Adalea dress looks cute, but it is a weird top. Probably one I should look into in the future, 'cause it could totally be a nursing dress. Except I'd worry about things.. popping out. I don't think you were being too picky. They sent you an interesting but odd selection this time.
ReplyDeleteI really like the blue "sweater" dress, but I agree - weird material for a summery style dress! The last one is super cute too, but I agree - if you don't love something, it's not worth the prices, and these dresses definitely aren't "cheap".
ReplyDeletelove that stripey maxi, too bad it was too short!!! I don't have that problem :) and love that last blue fern print dress, very flattering, even though you didn't keep it!
ReplyDeletexx, lauren
I have had similar issues with StitchFix and stopped receiving them. I could never get things to fit right or they'd send me styles I'd specifically asked them not to send. I think these all look great on you, but agree that the prices are too high on a few!
ReplyDeleteThat last blue dress looks like a perfect cruise/summer dress...but since you are trying to monitor spending, I agree, you need to love it.
ReplyDeleteI think the Gilli Adalea "nursing dress" (haha!) would work for me. Because the draping my help cover my ginormous tatas a little.
I'm a fan of that last dress. I think its super cute and I've been a fan of prints lately. It's be a good summer wedding dress (as in wear to a wedding, not as the actual dress...obviously) But that's about it for me. I can't decide if I want to try Stitch Fix or not. Part of me says yes and the other part says, meh...better not (a la Rebel Wilson in Pitch Perfect).
ReplyDeleteThe prices seem way higher than the quality warrants. I find these subscription boxes tend to exaggerate on the prices. Bummer!
ReplyDeleteI've always been interested in Stitch Fix but afraid of what I'd end up getting! I actually really like the last dress! And I even kind of like the "nursing" dress too, haha.
ReplyDeleteYou didn't waste $20! Don't look at it like that. You got to have fun trying on new clothes, having something styled for you, and get to leave even more feedback for if you ever try it again. Even if you don't like the clothes, I still think it's pretty fun to get to try it all on :) Though, having experienced a few 0/5 boxes myself I know the frustration!
ReplyDeleteI actually love quite a few of those dresses – especially the summer dress / winter material. So happy we're getting back to dress weather :)
ReplyDeleteI always say the same thing about the prices...it's cute but not $X amount cute!! Sorry this box was a dud! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston
ReplyDeleteUmmm, are we the same person? This would TOTALLY be me. I'd be thinking my all-dress fix would be perfect and I'd buy all the things and dance through the flower meadows in my awesome dresses only to find the stylist was probably right all along and the dresses really didn't work and apparently I should just stay quiet :P
ReplyDeleteWhat a bummer that it still costs you even if you don't buy anything. My cheap ass side would hate that!
I am the same way about maxi dresses. It is so hard to find ones that are actually long enough!
ReplyDeleteWhile I LOVE the last dress, the material sounds weird and one of my biggest dress pet peeves is when something is too big in the waist- that's like the one place you want something to be extra fitted! This is kind of weird timing to get a sweater dress- even though it is really cute. I'm impressed you didn't give into the temptation to keep something just to not lose the styling fee!
ReplyDeleteSo far I haven't heard very happy reviews from ladies about Stitch Fix, which is such a bummer. I agree; it needs to be "$100 cute" to pay that lol. Love your disclaimer at the end! Totally adding 2 cents to your shopping fund if I find something ;)
ReplyDeleteOkay...I actually kind of like your "nope" dress! LOL! I want to know why you don't like it! Do you not like the fit or print...or both? I can understand your reasoning on everything else and I think it's definitely best to "waste" $20 on the service than to keep stuff that ends up as clutter.
ReplyDeleteI really hate them all, sorry friend, but you probably agree to a certain degree since you didn't keep any. I just think their prices are outrageous! I see tons of cute dresses for $20-40 tops that are decent quality. Seems like this month was a bust!
ReplyDeleteI appreciate that you appear to be a normal type of clothes person. Thank you! I love that you said one of the dresses was cute but not $100 cite. I know the feeling. It's good to realize that you'd rather waste $20 than buy something you wouldn't wear. I agree those were okay but not awesome especially doe the price. Also, LOL about the note to your stylist. You crack me up :)
ReplyDeleteI do like the style of the sweater dress, though I totally agree that the price point is high and it's a bit of an odd mix of material/style for two different seasons. Hope you have better luck with the next one!
ReplyDeleteI really like the last dress & the print haha. I could see myself wearing that for summer brunches or on vacation. Maybe even to work with a blazer. I used to be a hug fan of Stitch Fix, then I wasn't (they were sending me things I couldn't wear to work even when I was asking for business appropriate attire), and now I'm loving it again. It's a love/hate relationship but I'm too lazy too shop for clothes myself.
ReplyDeleteI'm so weird. I like my maxi dresses to not be too close to the floor. I'm convinced that the hem will get all dirty and messed up! I am not understanding why anyone would think a sweater dress should be cut like a summer dress? Weird. That one dress does look like a nursing dress. haha Weird! I actually really love the last dress on you! I stopped doing StitchFix due to sticker shock and now buy almost everything from ThredUp.
ReplyDeleteBummer that nothing worked. I also think a few were cute on you but I wouldn't have paid that much if I didn't LOVE them. I find a lot of maxi's that are too short for me too. I'm only a tiny bit taller than average.
ReplyDeleteWait, what's wrong with the first one?
ReplyDeleteI like the Eyelet dress but understandable why you didn't keep it. If you email them they might cover your next styling fee. I think I've had 1-2 boxes where I didn't keep anything and was bummed but I wouldn't want to spend more to keep something I wasn't crazy about to use it. I hate that it's so hit or miss!
ReplyDeleteUgh, I hate a bad fix. I have such a hate/love with stitch fix... But an even bigger bummer that the mod cloth dress wasn't long enough!!! It would have been so perfect on you!!!
ReplyDeleteYou could wear a paper bag and make it look cute. I like lots of these, but I know how you feel when something just doesn't fit right.
ReplyDeleteMan, it's been over a year since I got a "fix"! I really liked the regular clothes they sent me but I did one maternity fix and it was all SO BAD I just let SF fall off my radar... Some cute dresses here but the price point is rather high for the look. You look super cute in all of them though! Your waist is tiny winy!
ReplyDeleteI've never done stitch fix -- I like the idea in theory but I'm afraid that I'd not like anything since I tend to wear small sizes, but have a bigger chest for "small" clothes. It's frustrating to say the least! BUT maybe one day?! :)
ReplyDeleteI would like the black "nursing" dress if it weren't for the whole "nursing" part. Haha. I mean, the dress itself is cute, but the drapey material around the chest is just really weird. I have huge boobs, and I still wouldn't want that on something I was wearing!
ReplyDeleteI don't get the sweater dresses in summer either. I always see really cute dresses online and then when I click on them for more information, they're sweater dresses. I mean, I love sweater dresses in fall/winter, but if it looks like a summery dress, why is the material so heavy?
I love the look of the sweater dress, but it's so weird that they picked such a summer style for such a thick fabric!
ReplyDeleteI swear every time you post a stitch fix I'm alllllmost ready to do it, but it's usually the prices that keep me from trying it out. I don't go anywhere so I have no reason to spend ANY dollars on new clothes, let alone these amounts. Am I super cheap or just really spoiled by thrift stores? I dunno. Anyway, I actually love all of these dresses in concept, but there's something just a little off about them. The second to last one is amazing though and I am totally going to keep my eyes out for something similar!
ReplyDelete(What's a toilet paper doll?)
i have tried them once--i've done similar services too--so i like seeing what's in them. but dang i cannot pay some of those prices!
ReplyDeleteI really like the last three on you! I agree with Elle though. Some of those prices are cray!
ReplyDeleteI love that first one but maxi's are so tough to fit perfectly! That was a great idea so say more dresses - I would do that too!
ReplyDeleteYou definitely had some cute pieces! My sister just did this and I was pretty impressed with what they sent her. I liked your comment about the Golden Tote similarities........it makes me wonder about wholesale dresses and the whole behind the scenes. Anyways, everything looked really good on you. You have strong willpower!
ReplyDeleteUmmmmm, I literally was just looking at all of these posts thinking - yes, buy that. and buy that, and you should get that! You look legit good in every single thing, no joke! this is like the first stitch fix post that makes me actually want to sign up for it.
ReplyDeleteI liked the Brixon Ivy dress, but how odd that it's jumper material... It would have been fine if you were living in the UK!! The dresses do look good on you (you would look amazing in a bin bag) but I didn't love them tbh... Oh well!
ReplyDeleteAgree that the last dress didn't have the best print, but man does that neckline look GREAT on you!
ReplyDeleteGood post, love this sharing so much, thank you!
ReplyDeletearron
http://www.vmotoonline.com/
So I actually have a sleeveless peplum top made out of a similar material as that sweater dress, and I love it but I never know how to wear it because of what you said - the material is thick so like fall/winter, but the style is spring/summer. I can wear a cardi over it so I do basically wear it year round, but the material and style mismatch confuses me.
ReplyDeleteI got really sad when you said your friend asked if that V neck dress was a nursing dress lol! Like, is that really where we're at in life, must be nursing if we're in a V neck? Oy :/
Fit and flare is definitely a hard style....super cute if the fit is just right, but if it's too loose yeah, not a good look.
I love the style of the last dress but not really a fan of the print either! But print aside, it does look really good on you! And at those prices you should definitely be picky...I wouldn't spend $60+ on a dress I didn't love everything about.
I think it's pretty cool that you have a personal stylist with the SF. That sounds pretty awesome! I don't blame you for not wanting to spend money on something that you don't 100% love. Although these dresses were pretty, I don't think any of them were completely eye catching or perfect, so I definitely don't blame you for sending them back :) Better luck next time?!
ReplyDeleteI tried Stitch Fix all of one time. The items I got were SO not me at all and the only thing I would have considered keeping was way too expensive for my taste and something I could have easily picked up for like $17 at a boutique at the mall. Not my jam.
ReplyDeleteI like the first and last dresses with the prints. I would not spend that much on either of them though. Lol.
Ah. Stitch Fix is hard. It's a bummer you didn't love any of the dresses they sent.
ReplyDeleteI have to say though, that last dress looks AMAZING on you. Maybe you should search for something with a print you like (and one that fits) because I think the shape of it is amazing for you. :)
You should try Trunk Club. It's free to receive and return. You get 10-15 items, too. You literally only pay for what you keep. They're on the pricier side (it's a Nordstrom company), but if you're looking for something specific I think it's a great thing. I'm planning on getting another trunk once I loose some lbs. Ha.
I like the v neck eyelet dress a lot but I really just think that in general stitch fix costs way too much.
ReplyDeleteI feel you on the maxi problem. It's the worst! I have to say, none of these did it for me as well. The last one is the only maybe, but even then, I don't think I would have ponied up for it. I have one coming in a few weeks.
ReplyDeleteWhy are long maxi dresses so hard to find??? I would wear them so much more if I could find them to actually fit tall people! And I agree with you...some were cute but not worth the money especially if you don't love them!
ReplyDeleteI love the second stitchfix dress - I would totally have kept that! But then I don't care if the patterns I wear don't fit the season.
ReplyDeleteIf your maxi dresses drag along the floor all the time don't they get ruined after about the second wear?!
I received a dress I ordered today and they sent the wrong size. I'm so disappointed! I ordered medium and got XL! Waiting to hear from the seller to see what they want me to do. Hopefully they'll replace it because I still LOVE the dress - it's just huuuge on me! I know I've put on weight recently, but not that much ;-)
I do love that blue, but you want it to fit right! I tend to love fit and flare but it has to hit you at the right angles! maxis are SO hard!
ReplyDeleteBummer that you didn't have any keepers! That black and white striped dress is super cute, such a bummer it didn't fit right!
ReplyDelete
