I have read one book since the last link up.
Okay, technically I have read 2, but the other was for book club.
So.... shall we?

This book is basically about how the choices we make change our lives, or our fate if you will. Two story lines are told concurrently, with one being that Hannah goes home with a guy, and in the other she doesn't go home with him. The tricky part about a book like this - not that I have ever read anything like this before - is that we tend to want a certain thing for a character, so you end up liking one version more than the other. This might be a bit of a spoiler, but have you seen Sliding Doors? I love that movie, but that's not the point today - the point is this book is basically like that except (highlight for spoiler) she ends up with 2 different guys in the 2 different worlds. I didn't love that because everyone else ends up the same (Gabby/Mark/Jesse, the dog, the parents visiting LA) so why couldn't she, like Gwynnie in Sliding Doors? Also, I clearly preferred one guy to another. Regardless I enjoyed this one very much, more than Forever, Interrupted. I loved that it was about friendship, family and finding yourself just as much as marital happiness.
I recently read Maybe In Another Life and I thought it was pretty cute! I agree though, it was weird that it didn't end up the way these books/movies usually end up but I think that makes it unique! <3, Pamela Sequins & Sea Breezes
ReplyDeleteYep. I realised I read no actual real books last month, only ebooks and audiobooks. But it's ok! It's not a competition! I'm glad you enjoyed your reading this month, I loved Sliding Doors so this sounds like something I'd like, too. I think I might also like that it sounds like it's not necessarily about finding 'the one' but finding yourself?
ReplyDeleteooh this book sounds really intriguing!! I also really wanted to highlight the spoiler lol but I might read the book so I resisted - thanks for that :) Some months are better than others for reading, that's for sure. Sometimes TV is an easier evening activity for me (not that you're necessarily doing that)...but when we're hooked on a good show, books are the first thing to get put down (and cleaning! haha). I need to check out Sliding Doors too!
ReplyDeleteI've been wanting to read Maybe in Another Life, no worry about the spoilers! And don't be embarrassed gurlie, you still read more than me this month! ;-)
ReplyDeleteGreen Fashionista
It's reassuring to know that you're not some kind of reading superhero.
ReplyDeleteMaybe in Another Life is on my TBR list. Soon...
Good to know it's interesting.
I took a deep breath before diving in to your post because I usually add like 5 books to my TBR list hahaha. It happens sometimes, ya know?! So I went to add this book to my TBR and realized I already have it on there! Sounds wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI just finished this book too! I really liked it mostly because I love the whole butterfly effect thing. Crazy to think of how much can change from one little event in our life.
ReplyDeleteMy brain needs a break sometimes. I always take it otherwise reading becomes a chore and it is certainly not that.
ReplyDeleteI liked Sliding Doors, I might like this.
I love that you only read one book. It makes me feel ok about myself :) I also love the way you concealed that spoiler. So clever! This book sounds super interesting. So does the movie you described, haha!
ReplyDeleteUsually you've read twenty books, I'm so glad I'm not the only one who seems to be in a sort of reading rut.
ReplyDeleteI loved Maybe in Another life...the whole time I kept thinking I wanted it to be a movie and thought of it a little bit like sliding doors back in the day with Gwenyth Paltrow!! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston
ReplyDeleteYES! I thought the same thing about Sliding Doors.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy her books. She's a fun writer, you know what you're going to get, and they're good in between some of the other heavier books I read. I have an ARC from NetGalley of her newest and I'm very much looking forward to reading it. She's one of those writers whose books I will always read.
I was going to say, sounds like Sliding Doors - which I LOVVEEEEEE that movie :)
ReplyDeleteI've never seen Sliding Doors but I kind of want to see it. Sounds so familiar. I don't know how I feel about those 'if then' books but this one sounds interesting, although I can see myself doing the same thing and wanting one event more than another.
ReplyDeleteYes, I haven't seen Sliding Doors in forever but that book sure sounds like it! I've been a complete slacker when it comes to reading, I barely read any books at all. But sometimes you just need a big reading break :)
ReplyDeleteThis is how I feel but about blogging, sometimes I just don't feel like blogging. I've been slacking with reading books too though. I need to make time again because I do love reading!
ReplyDeleteThis book is still on my reading list, so I'm happy to hear that it has your stamp of approval!
ReplyDeleteI really liked that book! I have never seen Sliding Doors, but everyone made that comparison when I posted about it. I didn't mind the ending(s) because I totally think that one decision in my life would have me in a completely different place now, but it is weird and a little unsettling to think about!
ReplyDeleteSeems interesting enough. Also, can we talk about your (highlight for spoiler) section? That was ingenious. Seriously, mind blown at the idea of doing that.
ReplyDeleteI read your spoiler and now I'm super interested in this book! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteYou make me realize how little I read for fun! I definitely need to step up my reading game! Make today work, Rachel -CubicleCouture
ReplyDeleteI only read two books this month and one was a reread. This book sounds interesting.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that you only read one book this month makes me feel better about myself ;) This book sounds good though, adding to my must read list!
ReplyDeleteOh - well, I don't feel so bad now. My reading has hit a slump but my to-read list keeps growing. If I spent as much time reading as I do in finding other books to read, I might actually get some marked off my list! The book sounds interesting (and I totally went ahead and read the spoiler, because why not?) so yep ... added it to my to-read list. Thanks. :)
ReplyDeleteI read 3 books this month, and 1 was a reread so it doesn't really count for me. It happens- and it's OK!
ReplyDeleteThis book sounds interesting, not sure I have read a book structured like this before.
I also liked Sliding Doors. I will have to check this one out!
ReplyDeleteOne book? That is not like you. You're slackin!

Considering that you're up to 52 books a mere 4 months into the year, I'd say it's ok if you take a month or two off. Lol! I was looking at everyone's challenges on Goodreads the other day and I was amazed how much you've read already. Anyway, if there was just one book for the month I'm glad it was a decent read! It sounds really interesting.
ReplyDeleteThis is already on my TBR. I have not seen Sliding Doors, that I can remember, but I love the premise behind this. I often think about the fickleness of fate because I'm weird like that! LOL!
ReplyDeleteThank you for another book to add to my vacation book list!
ReplyDeleteHaha! So I'm reading your post thinking "I love Sliding Doors; I bet I'll like this," and I click on the link and it turns out it's already on my Want to Read list!
ReplyDeleteI definitely liked this book, but the ending was just too... much! I like definitive endings and this just didn't do it for me!
ReplyDeleteI love "Sliding Doors", more so the concept it illustrates. Would love a book that has a foot in that world!
ReplyDeleteI already had Maybe in Another Life on my to read list. I may try to get to it sooner though.
ReplyDeleteAt least you got through one- I didn't read a single book this month! Oops! Reading your review I was totally thinking about Sliding Doors, and then you mentioned it! Unfortunately I didn't like Sliding Doors (looks like I'm alone here), so I probably won't be checking this one out, but I'm glad you enjoyed it better than the other one you read by her!
ReplyDeleteSliding Doors is one of my old faves! I love how you had us highlight to read the spoiler! I have never seen that before and it is BRILLIANT! So many times I want to include spoilers but I dont know how without ruining for everyone else. Great idea! I am definitely going to use that in the future!
ReplyDeleteI remember somebody else talking about Maybe In Another Life last time, and thought that it sounded so cute! I love the movie Sliding Doors, so this sounds like a book that I'd love!
ReplyDeleteI think I would get confused reading a book like that. Lol. I've been slacking on my goal of reading... :( I just don't have the time for it right now. I actually was in the middle of reading Nightingale and kept renewing it from the library and finally just said forget it, I'll return it and read it some other day. :/
ReplyDeleteI wish I could tell you how long it took me to actually HIGHLIGHT the text where the spoiler was- I thought at first you forgot to put a link, hahaha. But such a good idea to not ruin anything in a post! I forgot about this book and had to go back and read my review because I remember liking it, but couldn't remember much else. I'm in the weirdest reading phase-- after owen meany I haven't been able to get into anything except really cheesy, not much substance books. Though I just started Finding Audrey and am really liking it so far!
ReplyDeleteHmmm....I think I would like this. I actually did wrote a blog post like 2 years ago on "defining moments" because I heard about the movie Sliding Door and it intrigued me. But I've never seen it. I only read 2 books in March I'm pretty sure...AND I'm so mad I keep forgetting about this link up. I need to write it down and make sure to participate next month.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I know. I haven't felt like reading a lot lately. Or I have, but I've actually been to lazy to read. What even is that? What's wrong with me? Sigh. I've been reading like 9 minutes a night, if at all, so it's taking me ages to get through Life of Pi. I am loving it though...I just need more hours in a day, fewer pesky to dos, and less interest in what's on Netflix.
ReplyDeleteIm slacking so much in the reading department. Mainly because my "reading time" was usually before bed and now its 3 2 1 and asleep! haha
ReplyDeleteLol, the book sounds like it would be confusing. Interesting, but confusing :) I've never seen Sliding Doors but I remember a lot of people liked it when it came out in the movie theatre.
ReplyDeleteI vaguely remember Sliding Doors. I imagine a book version might be too hard for me to keep up with, LOL. And yes, I feel ya, some months, don't feel like reading. Right now, I'm on a "high" but that just means I'll hit a "low" soon enough.
ReplyDeleteI have seen this book out and about before, I will have to look into it, it's got all the working parts that I normally love!
ReplyDeleteI think I already have Maybe in Another Life on my TBR-going to check right now! It sounds really good!
ReplyDeleteYup, sometimes you just don't wanna read, or the month escapes from you. I'm glad to see you're human too ;) Also, that book sounds really good - I loved Sliding Doors.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like an interesting concept for the book, I'll have to check it out.
ReplyDeleteI think I actually gasped when I saw that you'd only read one (well, two) books since the last link-up. Haha.
ReplyDeleteI definitely go through reading slumps, though, so I get it. Sometimes I just want to do other things, and sometimes I just can't seem to pick the "right" book. At least the one you read was good, right? (And it's actually on my "To Read" list already, so I'm glad you liked it!)
Well, sometimes that just happens. Happens to us all.
ReplyDeleteI was conflicted about my feelings towards the 2 different men. I thought the idea of how one arbitrary decision could send your life in an entirely different direction was utterly fascinating.
I really liked Sliding Doors, and I liked this book, too :)
ReplyDeleteI open this post thinking to myself "if I read 8 or 9 books this month, Kristen probably read 20!" bahahhahaaahhha! At least it was a good read :)
ReplyDeleteI need a fun read, and this just might be it! I'm struggling to find time to read lately... and I miss it so much!
ReplyDeleteThis book has been on my list forever. I think I received it from NetGalley, but didn't finish it in time. I'm gonna check with my library.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read much this month either. But I did go to the used book store today and got 8 books for $2.00 so I have big plans!!
ReplyDeleteThis looks like my kind of book, putting it on my to read list!!
ReplyDeleteI loved Sliding Doors and I loved After I Do so I cannot wait to read this!
ReplyDeleteI feel you on the not reading! My brain has been so overloaded lately that I just haven't had the brain power to read anything - except "Around the World in 80 Days" whilst nannying only because it's the only book that I hadn't read on their bookshelf and my brain couldn't face one more second of Inside Out after watching it twice a day every time I look after this kid! :P

ReplyDeleteThanks for the recommendation! I just started The Room... haven't quite got hooked yet.
ReplyDeleteLOL! hey I hear ya! I felt like that alllll last month. Reading was literally painful for me.
ReplyDeleteAs you already know I did love this book! But I do agree, it was strange that everyone else ended up the same except for her. But it's such a bizarre concept to me that I could think about it for hours. None of my life would be the same if I did one thing differently you know?
ReplyDeleteWe all have off reading months. Love the Elementary gif!
ReplyDeleteI read Maybe In Another Life in January and really enjoyed it. Sliding Doors was one of my fav movie concepts too but I like the way this book didn't go down that same path but the same people appeared.
ReplyDeleteGreat review
Http://Runwright.Net
I'm a slow reader to begin with but lately it has been taking me SO long to get through a book. I feel your pain!
ReplyDeleteI think about that idea of one choice leading to wildly different potential lives all the time, so I'm super intrigued by Maybe in Another Life now! Adding it to my list...
ReplyDeleteLOL you crack me up! Two books is just fine!! :) I haven't read a book with a plot like this.... hmm ... XO - Alexandra
ReplyDeleteSimply Alexandra: My Favorite Things
Glad to hear you liked Maybe In Another Life! That one's sitting on my bookshelf :) Can't believe you only read 2 books this month (you always have a million!) but you're so right, you definitely need breaks. And it seems like you had a lot of fun things happening this month (from another post) that kept your time!
ReplyDeleteLove that you made the spoiler white! Sounds like an interesting read but I'd probably get frustrated because I'm sure I'd pick sides too. Lol.
ReplyDeleteI saw Sliding Doors a long, long time ago and really liked it. I like that whole concept... like things can be completely different if we'd just made one different choice. I might have to pick this one up!
ReplyDeleteI've been slacking with reading lately too.
I love Sliding Doors, but I've never read a book like it before. This one sounds interesting, though I can see how it'd be a bit frustrating. Sliding Doors was frustrating until the very end where the elevator doors open and you breathe a sigh of relief.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds super! I love the idea of two timelines with the same people but different situations...interesting concept! Will try to get my hands on a copy :)
