But until then...
Time for a Lily!
With Oaks & Derby a week away and the official 'you have the day off' from my boss, I'm getting excited about all the lily drinks I'm gonna drink.
According to the Derby website, an Oaks Lily contains vodka + cosmopolitan mix. It's delicious y'all. And pink!
Rent The Runway
I decided against wearing my lace dress from golden tote. It's pretty and all, but a wee bit too tight to walk around all day in, and I'd be pulling it down all day - that's no fun. What can I say, my hips don't lie. It would be fine for dinner or whatever, and I do love it, just not for all day. I ended up using my birthday freebie from Rent the Runway for a hot pink dress that I don't want to share yet in case it doesn't work out, but in the mean time, I wish I had parties, weddings, showers, whatever-ers to wear all of these dresses:

Favourite Jam
Confident - Demi Lovato. I rarely listen to the radio but this song came on the other day and I just love the beat.
Current beauty love
Last month I told you I went a bit nutty with the beauty purchases, and one of those purchases was the LA Girl BB Cream - Tati (and a bunch of other youtubers) talked about it. Way back in the day I used to use this tinted moisturiser by maybelline that they of course discontinued, I bought a bunch of it when I found that out and that was like 8 years ago and I shit you not I still have some. But I've been looking for a replacement, and I think I have found it.
What I loved about the maybelline stuff was that it covered most of my imperfections but not who I was - you could still see my flaws, they were just a little blurred, which is how I like my everyday makeup to look. It was light and went on great. I have tried so many and they are all either too heavy, not enough or too much coverage, too expensive, too whatever. I just haven't found that perfect replacement. Until now! It's a little shy from meeting the mark on coverage, I do have to wear concealer under my eyes (or that could just be because I'm not 21 anymore, right?) but other than that, I love it. You can still see 'flaws' but I at least look awake and a little smoothed out.
Oh and did I mention it is $5? It's like $7 on their website, but at walgreens and drugstore.com it is only $5. The only problem is that at walgreens and drugstore, they don't have all the shades. I bought both fair and light/medium because I wasn't sure, and I have been wearing the fair the entire time, haven't even touched the other one. Maybe it will be good for the summer.
Anyway, pictures? If you follow me on snapchat you've already seen these, sorry for the double up.
Hashtag no filter. Anyway, I am not kidding, I love this stuff.
Cake! Discipline.
Okay so it's not really a favourite, but it's not a non favourite either. I 'failed' my no sweets thing! But I'm not mad or sad. Yesterday, we had this big lunch at work, and there was cake. I felt like a piece. I had a piece. It was good. I did not want another. I successfully said no to the bag of chips that were next to the cake, but I felt like I could eat a piece of cake like an adult and move on. It broke my no sweets month, but 27 days is still impressive. I am more impressed by my ability to have one piece of cake and NOT turn around and eat everything in sight. Am I ready to do that whole 'moderation' thing? Absolutely not, unfortunately. I still do not have the willpower or discipline to have a bag of chips at home and not eat the entire thing. But this shows that I will get there, so high fives.
and with that, I say good friday y'all and have a good weekend.
Oh my god though white cake is so good. And I definitely would have had two pieces, so bravo. I think chips might be your real problem ;) hahah, you bring them up all the time lol! I forgot you like in Kentucky don't you?! Is the whole derby thing like life there?! How fun. And I've always wanted to do rent the runway....have you done it before? My only worry is that I will be like so concerned with not ruining it. Like I won't be able to drink and have fun because what if I ruin the dress and have to buy it for $4758 lol????!

*live not "like" in Kentucky lol
DeleteYou look so pretty in your derby picture! I understand not wanting to walk around in a dress that is a wee bit too tight, so I hope the rent the runway dress works out for you :) Happy Friday!
ReplyDeleteWow that first dress is SO pretty! Love the two shades and so perfect for Spring! Love all of them really but one is my favorite! Happy Friday! Xo
ReplyDeleteI know how it can be with dresses. They're so fickle. Sometimes you're just not feeling it. I look forward to seeing the dress you do wear in the end! And hooray for days off from work. That's a winner. My favourite CC cream so far is the Clinique one, but hello expensive. So I don't wear it very often. If I could get my hands on LA Girl, I would definitely give this one a try.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'll be giving you a metaphorical high five from my sofa this weekend. I don't plan on moving from it and it's going to be glorious.
Cant wait to see the dress you wear. Good for you being smart about it - nothing worse then tugging at a dress all day long.
ReplyDeleteI'm so jealous you're off - I work literally around the corner from Churchill Downs & we dont even get off - so dumb! I honestly walk outside during Derby week & just SMELL all the mint juleps in the air.
That makeup is nice, it does give a good blur but not overwhelming. I would love to find something less expensive than my NARS, although at least it's not something I purchase often. It usually lasts a while. Those dresses are sooo pretty. I love the stripey one cause it's nice and long. I'm always nervous sitting down in above the knee dresses. Ugh last time I ate store bought cake I was sick so I've been turned off for a while. I have replaced it with pizza and chipotle lately though.
ReplyDeleteUm that sounds delicious. BRB while I find a reason to make that delicious drink.
ReplyDeleteOk you have me sold on those three products! You look great!!! Have so much fun today--that drink sounds delicious!!!
ReplyDeletei mean who can resist cake?? not me, babes.
ReplyDeletei've been wearing concealer for years because #oldhagproblems :( and i LOVE the fourth dress! especially the back
ReplyDeletegirl i just ate a donut. kill me now. and YES to oaks/derby weekend! i am so jazzed about it but wish i was there!
ReplyDeletexoxo cheshire kat
Oooooh, I love all those dresses- especially the 2nd one! (Good luck this weekend! You deserve that couch time!)
ReplyDeleteI've yet to try rent the runway. I've been meaning to though. Maybe for the next special occasion :)

Knowing that sweets are your downfall and STILL having the discipline to let yourself have a slice—just one—takes AMAZING discipline. So proud of you! And honestly I can't even say the same because a pint of ice cream has never lasted more than 2 days in my house. If I want to not eat it I have to not buy it.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see your pretty dress for the event and oh my goodness, that cocktail sounds amazing. I've never heard of it up here so I'm guessing I won't be able to get one until I find myself in Louisville!
I am so jealous of your impending Derby fun! I LOVE that fourth dress! I wish my boobs were smaller or fake and I could wear a backless dress! I could never get away with not wearing a bra. I cant believe your super quick makeover. A tiny bit of makeup makes such a dramatic difference on you! I have been following along on Snapchat and you are KILLING it at the gym, girl!
ReplyDeleteyay for discipline! :) That's awesome. I personally don't like cake very much, especially the grocery bakery variety... so I am always safe in those office situations. BUT I'm happy you enjoyed it and didn't go overboard. I've had a lot of oreos this week.. boo. :P The Lily sounds super good! I wish cities out here had a "thing" Oaks and Derby are so KY. I don't feel like there is any one event or place that is so KS. LOL KC just told me there is a tournament he is considering in Louisville in September. We'll see if that goes anywhere.. but if it does, maybe we could grab a coffee/tea and browse a bookstore? :) Or whatever really. haha Happy weekend! (intrigued by this hot pink dress!) Ahh that cake looks good! I have no self control so I would have had two pieces and then I would have snuck a third when no one was looking, that's just how I roll :) The Derby sounds like a lot of fun and the pink drink sounds like it would be right up my alley. It's awesome that you found a good BB cream, it's tough to find the perfect product!

ReplyDeleteI love that #1 dress from rent the runway but cant wait to see the pink one you picked out!! That mascara is my favorite!! Hope you have the best weekend and I had to reread the cake favorite which is why I deleted my first comment LOL! I think having one slice in 27 days is more than okay - you still rocked! xo, biana - BlovedBoston
ReplyDeleteYour fascinator in your Derby picture is just amazing!!! Love it!!! that's awesome you made it 27 days without sweets! I say that is a huge accomplishment!
ReplyDeleteI don't turn down cake at work. It's cake! And work. I need it.
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted to try rent the runway- I think once I'm not pregnant and semi-skinny again (will that ever happen?!) I'll find a reason to rent something bc they have the most GORGEOUS stuff, seriously! I'm so jealous of all your derby fun!!
ReplyDeleteMmmmm cake! I usually go to town on cake at work, but have been known to resist on rare occasions! Those lily drinks sound delish, and I can't believe Derby day is almost here! Yay for pretty celebrations and a day off from work! Happy Friday gurlie <3
ReplyDeleteGreen Fashionista
I can't believe it's almost time for the Derby again! Those lily drinks sound so tasty. I love your Rent the Runway picks! Also, free cake at work is the best.
ReplyDeleteI pretty much only wear tinted moisturizer (hopefully with some SPF in there) so I'll have to check that out. I think calories are lower if the food is offered free at work. Even so, good job on only one piece! My office is right next to the break room so if people bring in sweets to share, I have to shut the door so I don't see/smell/hear/think/etc. about it. Doesn't always work, darn it ...
ReplyDeleteGood luck tomorrow!
Never heard of an Oaks Lily but it sounds magical and delicious & so pretty.
ReplyDeleteI have SIX weddings to attend this summer // fall. I've toyed with the idea of Rent the Runway, but will probably take a look closer to the dates. I would just be so afraid that all the things would look super good on a model but it would be hard to visualize on me. I know they send 2 sizes, but do they tell you about fabric? I need a little cling to show shape.
And how I wish dress 4 you showed would work with a bra. It's adorable & I love the open back, 'cause I actually really love my back. But, the girls need some support. Like, from a real bra. Haha.
The lily drink sounds right up my alley and I'm so excited to see what dress you end up wearing (and obsessed with that in a daisy dress & now want it for a wedding this summer even though I already have dresses I can wear). That bb cream sounds & looks amazing on you! I love what you said about something blurring your flaws as opposed to covering them up. Yay for being able to enjoy the cake without feeling bad about it! Do you think that going over three weeks helped crub your appetite for sweets or it's more about discipline?
ReplyDeleteYay for horse races that involve super cute dresses & fun drinks :) My kind of event!
ReplyDeleteI'll take a lily, too! :) Congrats with one piece of cake, it wasn't even a big piece and you were completely an adult about it!!
ReplyDeleteHigh five for just having one piece- it looks delicious! I need to try that cream once my current one runs out- it's a Maybelline BB cream but it seems to dry me out a bit. Can't wait to see the dress reveal! Can you please send a Lily and some sunshine over to your East Coast friends?! Please and thank you :)
ReplyDeleteGoing to buy that bb cream now...
ReplyDeleteDid you see how good your face looks?!?! Haha, but really. You've convinced me it's the best.
I was on Rent the Runway for an embarrassing amount of time yesterday looking for a fancy cocktail dress to wear to a wedding rehearsal. Then I get caught up stalking the pictures of them on real people (because models aren't real people?), then I second guess myself on each one because my hips do not lie either, and then I never reserve one. Because I'm a wimp.
Good job on just eating one piece of cake without breaking the rest of your diet! Definitely steps in the right direction toward moderation!
ReplyDeleteAnd that make up sounds great! I'll have to look into it. Thanks for the recommendation. :)
I've never done Rent the Runway before but it sounds super interesting. I need to check it out. I have this gala thing in the fall and I know I don't own anything that is fancy enough to wear for that. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteWow awesome makeup products! I just got the LA Girl yellow concealer and put it under my eyes, then add the same concealer you use on top and BAM it takes away all the darkness! Have so much fun at the Derby (and enjoy multiple lilys for me!).
ReplyDeleteLove the dress from last year, especially the hat and necklace. Gorgeous! Good for you for being able to enjoy one piece of cake and not binge afterwards. Baby steps! And thanks for review on LA Girl BB Cream. I need something light to help cover up some of my uneven tones, etc. And I love that price too!
ReplyDeleteLike you've said before, I think that your main goal with the no sweets thing was to try and limit yourself, and you definitely succeeded! And hooray for free Rent The Runway dresses! Any of those will look great at the derby with one of those lily drinks in hand! They sound and look fantastic! I hope you have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteCannot wait to see your derby outfit! I've never used Rent the Runway, but totally plan on it next time I need something fancy!
ReplyDeleteThat first lace dress is gorgeous and I'm sure looks amazing on you!! Love your headpiece from the previous year and how well it matches your dress and necklace.
ReplyDeleteyou look gorgeous~ I love the makeup picks. they suit you really well. And NO the weekend does not count as a day or two to ourselves as I swear we have to spend all of that time doing things we can't do during the week! Annoying.
ReplyDeleteRent the runway is seriously the coolest concept ever. I'm definitely going to be giving them a try someday!
ReplyDeleteI would call only having one slice of cake an even bigger success than none. Because you allowed yourself a controlled size piece and didn't go back for more or go for a total binge. Unlike me who ate 4 mini cup cakes today like no fucks were given. Oops. But they were strawberry and mostly icing. And you know me and icing. I love Confident and overplayed the shit out of it a few months ago. Love all those dresses and yay for cheap good make up!!!
ReplyDeleteGood for you for having one piece of cake and not 10. I have the same problem - I want more than one once I start lol. Ugh, no self control over here!
ReplyDeleteI'm not familiar with that brand of makeup, and who knows if I can find it up here, but man, I need a new BB cream and I love that price, and your face looks awesome!
Happy Friday! Hope you have a good weekend! :)
Is that cake from Krogers? Is Krogers in Kentucky? Because Krogers is a grocery store in Texas that surprisingly has outstanding cakes! I hope your piece was outstanding :)
ReplyDeleteTwo & Four of those rent the runway dresses...love them!
Love the outfit & hat (that's called something else, right?). Yay for discipline in the face of cake. You are strong!
ReplyDeleteI do love all those dresses. And like you said, just need the occasion to wear them!
ReplyDeleteI can resist donuts, etc. But when I see a giant sheet cake, it's difficult.
You sold me on the L.A. Girl PRO.BB Cream!
ReplyDeleteDon't you hate when beauty products (or any product.. really..) is discontinued. I feel like I find the PERFECT mascara/foundation etc and then all of a sudden it disappears. I think I need that BB cream though!
ReplyDeleteWay to go on the one piece of cake! THAT is treating yourself, my friend and THAT just goes to show how far you've come... capitalised because I'm over here in the land down under clapping you (in my head because otherwise I'd look extra super weirder than normal) because you are awesome!
<3
Hooray for finding a replacement product for a discontinued favorite! And hooray for cake discipline! And hooray for rent the runway! I hear you on wishing for more events to wear a fun dress. I hope we get to see the pink dress regardless of whether it works out because you know...I'm nosy like that!
ReplyDeleteCan I please come visit you in Kentucky and you can take me to all Derby-related events, and I can drink one of these delicious drinks that you speak of? Please and thank you. Also, props to you on the cake! :)
ReplyDeleteI thought about doing Rent the Runway for a wedding I'm going to in Floria later this month...but then realized that there was no point since the time frames they offer don't work for an out of town wedding. Now I need to find another event to go to so I can actually try them out!
ReplyDeleteI love that gray striped dress! And I need to pick up that BB cream. I would love to look like myself but better. I'm so lazy about makeup since I'm just at home 98% of the time but the older I get the more I feel like I could use a little boost when I DO leave the house.
ReplyDeleteGood for you for being able to walk away from the cake. I love cake! It's probably my favorite sweet...that and banana pudding and I have a really hard time turning down another piece! You did great with 27 days no sweets!
ReplyDeleteOH MY GOSH. I'm way too scared to say how old my makeup is because there are so many beauty bloggers out there that I think would disown me hahaha so THANK YOU for making me feel less weird!!! Also good for you on the cake and I need to try that BB cream!
ReplyDeleteThat top dress is amazing. The color, style, fabric - everything about it. Walking away from cake???!!! hmmmmm...... I guess it depends on the day for me :)
ReplyDeleteThe dress you wore to the derby? Stunning! It's a perfect color for you too! You have a gorgeous smile, just wanted to let you know! Kudos on walking away from cake. I'm not a huge cake fan but my sweet tooth is legendary and I usually have to at least have a bite of some free cake ;)
ReplyDeleteYou are gorgeous in that green dress and hat! Love it!
ReplyDeletexx, lauren
Ooh I need to get my hands on this BB cream! And for $5? Yes please. That mascara is also a recent obsession of mine!
ReplyDeleteThat asymmetrical black dress is GORG. I need to buy a dress for my cousin's wedding! ahhhh!
ReplyDelete27 days of no sweets is insanely impressive. I envy your self control! That before/after pic is great! I love me some BB Cream. Such a natural "improvement" if you can call it that... you look beautiful either way though! Option #4 dress from Rent the Runway is my fav! Oh, and I'll take an Oaks & Lily ;)
ReplyDeleteI can literally NEVER resist cake, so don't feel bad! Haha. I love that green dress on you too, so fab!
ReplyDeleteLove that song. I'll have to check out the B.B. Cream, you look amazing.
ReplyDeleteOMG I saw the picture of the cake before I read the text and I was like Kristen, how much of this cake did you eat?! One piece is good!! I'm impressed that you also declined the chips! I have never gone more than a week without sweets, so you should feel awesome for going 27 days! I agree that moderation is the way to go! $5 b.b. cream?! Sold!
