I knew I didn't want to restrict myself during birthday month, but I also didn't want to go crazy. I think I absolutely did go too close to crazy, I can barely remember everything I bought and I don't want to tally it up.
This post contains affiliate links which means if you click, I make like 2 cents and then I go and spend that 2 cents because I have a shopping addiction.
This hot tools thingy which I still have yet to use.
2 new pairs of work pants, 2 new jeans, a cardigan and a cami from Express.
I actually got an express gift card for my birthday, so this kinda almost doesn't count.

I also bought a bag from justfab, a kindle fire, a dress from stitch fix, a tank top off etsy, a dress off ebay, 2 dvds off amazon and 5 from half price books (they were $1 each!) and so many books I don't even know.
I ate out a lot. Visited the vending machine... a lot.
So March. No shopping, no eating out, no vending machine, no nothing. You can do it Kristen!
I've been trying so hard not to extra spend and what really helped me was minimizing my store emails telling me of the sales!! BUT I did buy two purses from Just Fab! =P March is definitely going to be a spending detox for me too!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend! =)
I want that styling brush! I saw it during my no spend month and then never got it. I think it's still sitting in my cart on Amazon haha
ReplyDeleteYou need to let me know how you like that styling brush! I've heard great things about them but I don't think I'd know how to use it haha! Happy Friday! <3, Pamela Sequins & Sea Breezes
ReplyDeleteyou can do it! you already have more discipline than me though haha. happy friday love!

I keep skipping my justfab month because I just don't have the dollars but i've been itching for a new purse ! And I wouldn't count books towards the count because books are like oxygen.
ReplyDeleteBirthday months totally don't count! I attempted my first no shop month EVER in February and surprisingly made it the whole month with no non-necessary purchases. However. March 1? Totally different story thanks to some excellent online sales :)
ReplyDeletehehe woohoo for March! Restraint... I hope for me too! :) hehe XO - Alexandra
ReplyDeleteSimply Alexandra: My Favorite Things
You can do it!!! I cant... let's be honest... but good for you for trying :) haha
ReplyDeleteLet us know how that hot thingy works - I'd be interested in that myself
"...and then I go and spend that 2 cents because I have a shopping addiction" hahah yep ditto. i'll get clicking lol :)
ReplyDeleteDefine no spending? As in like nothing extra at all? $163 is like nothing!!! That is awesome!
ReplyDeleteyou've got to use that hot tools thing and report back!!
ReplyDeleteLOL sometimes you just need to buy shit because treat yo'self.
ReplyDeleteYou can do it girl...for me if I tell myself no I feel like I eat worse, I buy more, I'm my own worst enemy! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston
ReplyDeleteI'm so bad about it when I set a no spending month - I mean, I want to be good, but then I see something that I HAVE to have, and then I'll buy it. I'll get to clicking for ya! :)
ReplyDeleteYou can do it! And in the meantime I've clicked all of your links a few times and made you.... hopefully a dollar richer!
ReplyDeleteI'll keep you on it girl :) I'm nearly a pro by now at no buy haha so if you're feeling weak just text me and I'll keep you accountable! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI don't know that I could do a spending freeze... More power to ya!
ReplyDelete(Also, I love your line about the 2 cents so you can go spend it... hahahaha!)
I did a no spend month last October when I was saving for my trip to Europe. I called it "No-tober". It was so hard but not all that bad. Now, have I done it since? No. Do I need to do it again? Absolutely. YOU CAN DO IT!!!
ReplyDeleteI still have no idea what I'm doing with that dang hairbrush thingy either. Have you watched Karly's tutorial? She does make it look easy! Good luck this month!!
ReplyDeleteSpending freezes are so hard! I tend to "forget" I don't want to spend money until after I have spent it. It's probably a good thing you tallied it up to see where you can improve...I know it is something I need to do but it is going to be painful!
ReplyDeleteNot THAT bad if you had an Express gift card, right?? haha Everything you got looks so cute-- I never think to shop there until I always see bloggers post about things they like. Do you order online or shop in the store? And you should start doing book haul posts on your blog!
ReplyDeleteI need to stop spending so much money! I've tried doing a spending freeze but something always comes up :(
ReplyDeleteYou did get some super cute stuff, I loved that chevron Stitch Fix dress you said you kept.
ReplyDeleteBUT, you can't buy things from a store if you don't walk in in the first place. Internet, not so easy. But, I removed myself from tons of store coupon emails so I don't even get tempted by potential sale prices for things I don't need.
YOU CAN DO IT!
I was going to try and type up some awesome cheer for you, but...I'm not a cheerleader and rhyming is hard. So GO KRISTEN!! <---me being a cheerleader.
ReplyDeleteAll birthday month expenditures are a pass!!
ReplyDeleteYou'll have to let me know how your first experience with the brush goes! Just be patient - it takes some practice to get used to. :) Love everything that you picked out from Express, too!
ReplyDeleteI would be in big trouble if I tallied up my monthly spendings! And also, if you have a gift card it definitely doesn't count! I'd like to get that brush, but I don't know if I'd use it enough.
ReplyDeleteI have the highest of hopes that you can pull it off in March :) It's too bad so many things out there are just too tempting for us to resist!
ReplyDeleteYou will have to let us know how that hair tool is when you use it. I love the jeans that you got!! Click click click, get those pennies :) I would love to say I will spend nothing in March...but ummm too late. I bought four tops last night at the outlets. LOLOLOLOL
ReplyDeleteYOU CAN DO IT!! I know you can!! I too have such a hard time not shopping. I did pretty good in February and I'm gonna try to be good in March. I say this and tomorrow my sister asked me to go shopping with her. haha Hopefully, I will be good. Maybe just buy the things I need. haha
ReplyDeleteLoving your new clothing pieces! Good luck with no spending in March, you've got this gurlie! Happy Friday <3
ReplyDeleteGreen Fashionista
$163 is pretty good over the course of a month! And your clothes pieces look worth it to me (long-lasting and functional). It's amazing how hard it is to spend no money.
ReplyDeleteBut all the stuff you bought looks so cute! And some of it is for the cruise, right? And you can't not buy books, especially when they're a good deal from Half Price Books!
ReplyDeleteYou can definitely do it! I used to have one of those brush-type curling irons. I think hot air blew out of it? My hair is way too short now to have any of that. I just cut it again yesterday, right when it was getting long enough to remotely put a hair tie in it.
ReplyDeleteYou definitely got this for March!
ReplyDeleteI would give yourself a pass on the stuff that came with a good deal like the books. Because it always could have been worse, right?
I'm really interested to hear how the hot tools thing works out!
ReplyDeleteReeeeally want some of those Express camis! And I have for like a year and a half so yeah I doubt it happens any time soon.
ReplyDeleteI have those dark wash mid rise jeans and they are so freakin comfortable. My friend got me into the mid-raise jeans and seriously I've been missing out. I need to buy a few more! You deserved some shopping for your birthday month.
ReplyDeleteDang you're strict with yourself! I set an eat out amount limit (which I went over, because life), but I wouldn't be able to not eat out at all. Good luck on your spending freeze!
ReplyDeleteI love that striped cardigan though...
ReplyDeleteGood luck this month!
ReplyDeleteI've had that brush in my Amazon cart for a long time, just never made the plunge and bought it. Once you start using it, you'll have to post a review! You're going to rock March spending!
ReplyDeleteLOL on your affiliate disclaimer! So true!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I could go a whole month without spending any money! I think you did pretty well! I bought a Hot Tools curling iron recently and looooooove it.
ReplyDeleteYou made suuuuch good purchases in March!! Maybe I can convince you to share more outfits on Snapchat so I can see you wearing your new stuff?? (In the event that you don't want to put them in a more "permanent" place like your blog or IG. Pretty please?
ReplyDeleteYour affiliate disclosure has me lolingggggggg
ReplyDeleteSo for little vending machine-like purchases, I gather up spare change and then cash it in and use that as my "fun food"money. Starbucks, etc. It's like bonus money.
ReplyDeleteI'm terrible with spending bans. They never work for me, ha ha. I'm interested to hear more about the hot brush :)
ReplyDeleteBahaha ha! But it was your birthday month! You are forgiven! ;)
ReplyDeleteYes Kristen, you can do it!! I just placed a $102 order on Hot Topic today... ahhhh!!! I couldn't help it. I was going back and forth for a month about all this stuff that I wanted, I just went ahead and said OH WHY THE HELL NOT! and placed the order. I am so excited for everything to arrive!
ReplyDeleteLOL- I just responded to your comment on my blog about how I need to refrain from shopping. Then I come over here and what do you know, it makes me WANT to shop ;) That cardigan is SO SO freakin' cute... Jared might kill me if I bought that. I own too many cardigans as it. I've been bad about quick stops in at vending machines/gas stations for snacks too lately bc I haven't prepared for the day as well. Gotta get better at that this month!
ReplyDeleteSo let's talk about those trousers for a minute. Are they long enough? Like, for oddly tall people long enough? And gift card spend totally doesn't count, ditto anything vaguely birthday related. As for March, you can do it! I have faith!
ReplyDeleteOne - you can do it! But two, you didn't do so bad at all! Maybe I should tally what I spend every month on these kids and dogs and you'd totally high five yourself! :-)
ReplyDeleteThis post needs to seriously light a fire under my ass because the spending is OOC! How are you!? Hope all is well, love. Getting back in the swing of blogging (or trying!). xx
ReplyDeleteI have the shopping bug bad. Mostly for home stuff, but I still really want to buy clothes and I don't know why! I don't need anything - there are no holes in my wardrobe. And Ryan and I have been eating out a lot, but we started doing date night every week and I guess we don't have any cheaper ideas - it's either been movies or dinner. I guess it's ok, since our joint account has a lot more money than I do by myself. :P
ReplyDeleteYou did so good on not spending that much, I have been going crazy with the shopping lately and need to curb it. Maybe March will be my calming down period! My wallet sure hopes so!
ReplyDeleteIt's your birthday month, you're allowed to spoil yourself :) I can never completely cut myself off from spending, but I need to make some serious cutbacks too. SO much travel coming up these flight prices are killing me!
ReplyDeleteI read this completely wrong at first and I was like 'how did she get all that stuff for only $163 dollars?! She needs to teach me her ways!' And then I re read it and realized that was January's total haha
ReplyDeleteI read this completely wrong at first and I was like 'how did she get all that stuff for only $163 dollars?! She needs to teach me her ways!' And then I re read it and realized that was January's total haha
ReplyDeleteI need to know how "that thingy" works because I feel like hair always gets suck in those things... BUT if they work, it could be amazing and easy! So holler at us after you get a chance to use it, k?
ReplyDeleteOooh, I'm curious about the Hot Tools! How are you liking the Fire? I overspent last month like crazy. Our goal for this month is not to eat out at all. So far we've done it twice. Oops! Haha!

ReplyDeletehahahaha. this is why we love you.
