February aka birthday month; What's New With You

I loved recapping January, I always thought it was a slow and boring month but my recap showed that was clearly not the case. I think it was just that I never took any photos, and I made an effort this time. I decided to do another recap for our What's New With You link up, though you absolutely do not have to. In fact, you can do whatever you want with just one caveat - please link back to Gretchen or myself. Thanks bunches!

What's New With You

I already shared the little things I did to treat myself during birthday month, and other than that, it was definitely a more low key month than January.

I went out to dinner with my girlfriends for an early birthday celebration.

I 'helped' my bestie out with another wedding show - I say 'helped' because all I do is stand around, eat food and tell people how amazing she is. I don't even need to say anything, because it's clearly evident in the amazing hairstyles she does on me for these shows. Check out her website here, facebook here and instagram here.

We weren't planning to do anything for the superbowl, but we ended up having a couple of people over, kind of last minute. We served super awesome and pinterest worthy food: pizza.

Cake, obviously. Asked a girl at work to take a photo for me and I was like.. no, not like that.. here, let me show you. Ha.

KC and I went to Olive Garden on my birthday.. I was planning on chinese but I had that for lunch.. and chinese twice in one day is a bit much for even me.

I had planned on making KC see Pride & Prejudice and Zombies with me, but then my friend volunteered as tribute, so that was fun. So KC and I saw Deadpool, which was actually pretty funny. We also saw The Witch, which was weird, and not very scary (from someone who is terrified of Gremlins). KC liked it though. It was more disturbing and creepy than jump out and kill you scary. We saw more movies this past month than we did the whole of last year, I reckon.

Got my hair done - further proof that my bestie is a magician.

Went to an Indian restaurant with my mother in law, brother in law and KC for my birthday - I love butter chicken so much. I could bathe in that sauce, or at least eat it every day.

I got my 3rd stitch fix and kept the chevron dress. The polka dot dress looked cute in pictures but not in real life.. plus it was $140.

KC and I continued to work out together on Saturdays - I squatted 105 lbs which is amazing to me. Working out on my own, I could only lift 50lbs, max. I was always too afraid of the fancy squat racks, ha! Meanwhile, KC is up to like 400lbs.

I also ran with my bestie a few times inside and finally last weekend it was warm enough, not raining or snowing, and we were able to run outside. I enjoy running with her regardless, but we certainly run more than walk when we are outside vs on the treadmill.

In adventures of Sunday Night Cooking... Stuffed chicken & beef and broccoli.

My mother in law got me a gift certificate for a facial and pedicure, so I went and had a pampering day with her. It was fun, though I don't know if it is something I would do regularly (aka pay for myself).

and a few other random photos that have no purpose or story but deserve to be shared .... but mainly cats.

Anyway, I know a lot of these are repeats from my birthday treat yoself post, but it was a good birthday month and deserves to be documented (twice). I really like these monthly recaps for myself, because I don't do weekend recaps or anything and I found that last year I really had no memories up on the blog (except for travel) so this is a great way for me to record and share those things.

Once again, thank you to everyone who linked up with Gretch and I last month, and we hope you can join us again this month! Please note we only ask one thing of you, and that is to link back to us.

  1. Haha I knew we needed to talk about The Witch! I can't believe you didn't think it was scary! Eric said it was just "okay," but I really liked it. It's the kind of movie that I love. I mean, yes, it was weird ... But I really enjoy movies that are unsettling and disturbing and haunting, and The Witch definitely fit the bill (at least for me). I feel like there was a quote on one of the trailers (or maybe I just read it somewhere) by a critic that said something like "It feels like you're watching something you're not supposed to be seeing." I 100% agree with that. I think that's why it was so scary for me ... It felt like I was watching something real that I shouldn't actually be seeing. All I know is that it got my heartrate up, and I couldn't stop thinking about it afterward. The performances (especially the actress who played the oldest daughter) were fantastic as well.

Your home cooked dinners look so good (as do your dinners out, obviously)! :-)

And you squatted 105 lbs??? That's amazing! Seriously. I can't even do 50. (Well, okay ... I've never TRIED to do 50, but I doubt I could at this point.) You are really killing it with those workouts!

  2. So cute! You did so much good stuff from eating well to working out to time with your MIL (love that you don't know if "it's for you" aka paying for it lol) to helping your friend (and in turn getting bomb ass hair out of it. Awesome, awesome, awesome month for you!! Cracked-up that your friend volunteered as tribute. :) Thanks for hosting this awesomeness and I guarantee that people enjoyed your pizza more than anything else on Pinterest. Guaran-effing-tee.

  3. That beef and broccoli looks sooo good! I was drooling when you posted in on snapchat. Your haircut looks so good too! I impressed you can squat that much. I'm too intimidated by the fancy squat machines. Travis and I go together every morning and them we just do out own thing.

  20. When I am back home with my friends we go (embarrassingly) hard at the Indian buffet. But everything they make it pretty much my favorite.

And I love sushi & Little Ceasars & Olive Garden. & I guess what I'm trying to say, is FOOD. Mmm.

That hairdo braid-ish thing you're modeling for your friend is wonderful! She nailed it.

  21. Lol is that a whole pitcher of sangria??? What a great idea. I used to make it at home all the time, and then I got one of the top 5 hangovers of my life and haven't had it for years, but I think this is the year to bring it back into my life. Anyways - your hair is amazing. Have I ever told you that? It's so long and flowy and it's like it's the kind of hair I wish I had. Like even in your before picture. I want it.

  22. It sounds like you had such a great birthday month! I haven't ever gotten a facial either, but it sounds like something I should at least try! The stuffed chicken you made looks so good! I love when Chris makes that for us for dinner! Your friend really is so talented! Your hair looked great for the wedding show, and also for everyday too!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Yay for February being such a good month! I can't believe that it's already flown by and that we're into March now. But now I think I need to find a friend like yours who does hair really well (& also runs with you?? Your bestie sounds super awesome!)

  32. Loved reading about all your birthday celebrations and happy to see you got to spend it with your girlfriends, KC, and in-laws at separate dinners. I'm craving butter chicken now!! We have a Indian lunch buffet near my office that has amazing food. Glad to hear Deadpool is funny...I'm about due to go to the movies!

  35. Looks like a well spent birthday month!!! :)

I have never had butter chicken, but that looks delish! (we do not have an Indian restaurant anywhere near us)

    ReplyDelete
  36. That hair is seriously flawless. You're a good friend for helping her out ;)
I kiiiinda want to see Deadpool, but I legitimately know nothing about him or the movie or the back story. Oh well, Ryan Reynolds.
I've never had Indian food but I really want to. There's a place by me—my town is foodie heaven, there's every type of cuisine here—and that meal you posted looks so good, I'm getting ready to make a plan to eat there right now haha.
I've never had a facial and I've had exactly one pedicure in my life...not for me. My feet are SO ticklish that it's not relaxing in the least. Just stressful as I sit there and try not to kick the girl in the face. No me gusta.

  37. I need your bestie to do my hair ASAP! She's so talented! Also, you should come visit me & I'll make you butter chicken :)

  38. Such a fun month and I'm seriously drooling over all of that amazing food!

  39. Treat. Yo'. Self! I've been craving Indian food something awful lately, and that dish looks amazing! Also, Gremlins are underrated for just how scary they are, because at first they're kinda cute, but then you feed them after midnight or get them wet and they turn straight cray. NOT COOL. Love the hair! Isn't getting your hair did one of the best feelings?!

  40. I'm officially hungry after this post, that cake looks amazing and yessss to all the pizza for the super bowl! Those dresses are so pretty on you, and girl you've been killin' it at the gym!

P.S. - I thought of you because I'm at my parents and naturally they have bags on bags of Doritos! It's heaven!

  50. Girl, that polka-dotted dress is so cute! Not in real life, you say? Too bad. That picture the girl took at work is hilarious! Was she trying to be artsy or is she a giant or what? Glad you had such a good month! Also, your hair looks fabulous.

  52. I love reading these monthly recaps of yours - it's all about celebrating the little things in life, and you always have so much to be happy about! Your friend is so good at hair - seriously, tell her to come to Wisconsin and do my hair. So jealous of all your movies, too - Ryan and I live for going to the movies, but unfortunately northern Wisconsin is up on getting the new releases.

  53. SO MUCH GOOD FOOD! Okay sorry. I love love love your hair at the bridal show! I think I said that last month too or whenever it was that you posted about it, but seriously. And your normal, just-done hair. Which reminds me that I'm overdue for an appointment!
I almost died just looking at KC on the squat rack. Your 105lbs is super impressive! I honestly have no idea how much I've ever squatted (it's been a long time since I used a fancy rack) but I know it's not that much.
I guess I missed your face swap snap but wtf, that is so creepy!

Most impressive on your squatting - that's such an accomplishment! Your hair is fabulous - your friend is talented! And I'd happily eat Indian food with you - love it!

  60. I totally agree with you about The Witch. Not very scary and very weird. It was also hard for me to understand what they were saying. Haha! I love both of those dresses, but maybe not for $140! I spy a cat in the Stitch Fix box. :)

  61. Seeing the Tinsel Town theater gave me a major flashback. Ah, Louisville. That face-swap photo is terrifying, hahaha. Glad you had such a great month!
