29 possibly interesting and/or random things about me

Some of these are repeats from similar posts, but it's really hard to come up with a bunch of facts about yourself, you know?

1. All my life people have gotten my name wrong (Kirsten, Christine, Kristy, Christian etc) so my mum used to tell everyone to call me Kris, and that's how she would introduce me 'this is my daughter Kris'. No-one calls me that now, of course. I tried to make Krissy happen for a long time, thank goodness it didn't.

2. I was born with black spiky hair that would not stay down no matter what, and my uncle nicknamed me Woody and still calls me that to this very day.

3. I don't have a father. I mean, I do, duh, science, but I don't.

4. I really like toblerones.

5. I used to be obsessed with a band called Unwritten Law when I was a teenager, and every time they came to Oz, they only did over 18 shows so I couldn't go. When I was finally able to go, I'd been a fan for like 4 or 5 years, and they were so bad. So, so bad. I was so upset and couldn't listen to them for months. They came back a couple years later and I saw them again, with very low expectations and they were amazing.

6. My mum used to sing a different song to all of us, mine was 'my little angel' by william shakespeare and we danced to it at my wedding. I surprised her and we both cried.

7. I used to despise butter (or margarine). I use it in cooking now, and sometimes I put it on plain toast, but that's it. I used to have a conniption if mum made my sandwich with butter.

8. I could listen to I Got A Car by George Strait on repeat for days and not be mad about it.

9. I take a bath almost every night.

10. I could eat butter chicken (or chickpeas) or fettuccine alfredo every day for the rest of my life.

11. I used to grind my teeth in my sleep so much that my dentist told my mother I was doing drugs when I was like 11 because that was the only possible explanation (apparently).

12. I have 2 brothers. I also have half sisters, but I didn't really grow up with them and don't really know them. My brothers and I are all very close in age. Matt was born August 23rd 1985, I was born February 12th 1987 and Brian was born February 1st 1988.

13. I can make one eye look up while the other looks down / closed. It's really not cute.

14. I worked at McDonalds for 5 years. It was my first real job and I really didn't want to apply, but I had already applied everywhere else and no-one would hire me. I ended up loving it and for a long time, wanted to own my own McDonalds one day.

15. I used to have my belly button and tongue pierced. Both are long gone.

16. When I was 6 weeks old, I had an operation for something that wasn't actually wrong with me, but now I have a very long scar across my belly to show for it.

17. I have only ever broken one bone, a little pinkie, playing netball. This girl threw the ball at me really hard, and it turned purple immediately. Like 6 years later, we ended up at the same school and became best friends.

18. I got my first tattoo because my cousin and I were bored on NYE (he was a tattoo artist). I got my second because my ex boyfriend had gone and got a tattoo and not told me, so I went and got one without telling him. Ha! What a weirdo.

19. I used to think I would marry Zac Hanson.

20. Y'all know I love my cats, but I love all animals and have had quite a few. Dogs, cats, horses, mice, guinea pigs, ducks, rabbits, fish and hermit crabs. We also minded a little lamb for a hot minute while the owners moved.

21. I hate salt. I use a napkin to wipe the salt off the fries at most places.

22. I hated shoes for a long time and would walk around (in public.. gasp) without shoes on. My mum was so embarrassed to be with me, but we don't have the 'no shoes, no shirt' thing at home (well, I bet a lot of shop owners were like wtf, but they weren't technically serving me, so....). It wasn't until a girl at school said she had seen me at the shops and 'um, you weren't wearing any shoes' that I realised it was a bit odd and I should probably wear shoes.

23. I count a lot. When I walk and when we are waiting for something (like food, doors to open or netflix to quit buffering), for example.

24. I used to be a really careless driver, but then I had an accident, and now I am more careful. I am also the worst backseat / passenger side driver you have ever met.

25. Potatoes in any form are my favourite.

26. I have gained quite a bit of weight since I moved here. About 20lbs. Probably all the potatoes.

27. I have had one cup of coffee in my life, and it was an iced coffee and I was very drunk and someone was trying to sober me up. Other than that, I hate coffee and have tried to drink it before to be in the cool club, but gave up.

28. When I was born, I was given 6 names. I changed my name when I got my driver's license because it wouldn't fit. Kristen Lee was actually my full first name (like Mary Jane or whatever) and now it's my first and middle. I had 2 middle names and 2 surnames.

29. It's my birthday today! Or yesterday. Whatever. Around 29-ish years ago, I was born. High five life.

Happy birthday to me! I am going to celebrate with chinese food and a movie (most likely P&P insert evil laugh), some ice cream or cake, kitty cuddles and making KC be my house slave for the weekend. Ha. Just kidding.

Happy Friday!

  2. I love toblerones too!!
In 10th grade I had someone throw a basketball at me which hit one of my fingers. It didn't heal properly and to this day I have a fatter joint and can't wear rings on that finger!
    And Happy Birthday!! :)
I sent that Schmidt scene to my brother on his 29th birthday! He's hilarious!

  3. Happy Birthday to you!

If I may ask, what prompted you to 1) get your tongue pierced and 2) ditch it later on? As a speech therapist, I loathe tongue piercings b/c is usually jacks up a person's speech, at least for a little while. My stepdaughter has hers pierced and I am hoping that she will outgrow it one day b/c it is sometimes painful to listen to her speak! Just very curious.

    Enjoy your birthday weekend!

  5. Happy belated birthday! It sounds like you have an amazing weekend planned, and I think that you should totally make KC your house slave. I mean it is your birthday. And that's seriously so sweet that you and your mom danced to the song she used to sing to you. Too funny you have so many names! I couldn't decide which name I wanted to keep when I got married so I kept them both and have four names and I love it lol! Have a great weekend celebrating!

  6. Happy Birthday, KRISSY [shouldn't have told me that, hahahahahha]! This is so much fun, I love learning more about you. The no shoes thing is HILARIOUS and I can imagine all the shop owners like WTH? I wish I had a bath every night, that would just be heaven. Taylor was my Hanson love!

  12. HAPPPPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!
Yes to the toblerones! I love them! I hardly ever eat them thought because I know I will eat it all in one sitting and while that's a good thing it's also a bad thing.
I wanted to marry Taylor Hanson. When he finally did settle down I was kind of disappointed lol

  13. Happy Birthday!!!

My sisters name is Kirstin so she would totally understand how you feel when someone messes your name up. She gets called Kristin all the time and it drives her NUTS

YES to fettucine alfredo and potatoes - I would live off of them if I knew it wouldn't turn me into a beluga whale hahhaa

  16. Happy Birthday! We all thought we would marry a Hanson at one point. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

  17. Happy Birthday!!! My parents used to call me monkey baby because of my dark sticky up hair! I also had my belly button pierced, but is long since gone! And please, just give me all the potatoes.

  18. So funny, I've always hated butter too - would only use it in cooking and on toast, same way! - but since getting pregnant, I've been putting it on everything!! It's the weirdest thing. Anyway, happy happy birthday!!! I hope you have a fabulous day and a great year ahead!

  19. Happy Happy Birthday!!! I want to know what all 6 of your names are now! lol. Hope you have a great weekend full of celebrations and being spoiled by KC. :)

  21. This is awesome :) Happy Birthday!
My boyfriends brother just had a little girl - Madeline - and her hair was the same!!! So, I'm calling her Rooster :) She's still a baby, but its grown out enough they can use mousse (or whatever - i dunno what they use) to keep it flat haha. She was totally adorable with all that spiky black hair though!

  22. Happy Birthday!! Hope you have a wonderful day celebrating. I too count everything. I thought I was alone on that one. Loved getting to know you better. I also do not have a father, so I know exactly what you mean when you say it. Hope you have a wonderful weekend. KC best be spoiling you all weekend long.

  23. Happy birthday to you!!! My favorite fact is that you used to not wear shoes. Kentucky was the right place to move. ;) Hope you have a great one!

  24. Happy birthday!!!!! It's my momma's bday too! :) (she's also 29... again... ;)) You've got to love Po-tay-toes. YUM. Seriously though, I don't know any people who moved here from a different country who haven't gained weight. Portions and prevalence of unhealthy things.. and less active lifestyles ftw. UGH. Seriously though, I really want to try that poutine recipe from my last post... good lord I thought KC was going to die from happiness when we tried it in Victoria, BC. SO. GOOD. One of my HS best friends worked at McDonald's for a very long time, he is one of the most successful people I know. He has already paid off his entire bachelor's and master's degrees via saving up at McDonald's, being a waiter at Olive Garden and Red Lobster... and just being awesome. Proud of that guy. :) Have you heard the Hanson cover of "we are never getting back together" !?!??!?! - I LOOOOOOOVE it. Oh Hanson... dreamboats. I hope you have a great bday weekend!!! 25. HAHA! These are great! I LOLd at several of them. I'm pretty sure I would have been the girl that told you it was weird you weren't wearing shoes in public. I especially hate it when parents let their toddlers walk around without shoes. lol

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! I hope you have fantastic day!

  26. Another member of the no dad club, my mom did a fabulous job on her own and I'm better off!

My daughter grinds her teeth at night, it's horrible. Eek.

    ReplyDelete
  27. The song/dance with momma - that's precious.
I never had coffee before in my life until my 40's & now addicted - so be warned. its coming for you!
I thought I was the only person who counted. Like ALL THE TIME.
As a tooth grinder, I had to bust out laughing. Having broken about 7 teeth grinding, what in the world do they think about me?
    HAPPY BIRTHDAY GIRL!!!

  28. HAPPY BIRTHDAY! You're doing your birthday right with Chinese food.. I'm obsessed with that. I loved reading this. The little pinkie is actually the only bone I've ever broken too!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Hopefully you're not just kidding about the house slave part because HOLLA! Birthday girl gets what birthday girl wants.

    Happy Birthday!!

I feel so much closer to you now that I know you wipe salt off of your fries. Ha. I would also take all that salt from you and put it on my fries because #gimmeallthesalt

  30. I took my husband's name in addition to my last name but I didn't hyphenate it and now I have 4 names. When I went to Salt Lake City last month, the TSA agent said "Wow that's a lot of names." Oops! Happy Birthday girl! I secretly wanted to marry Zac Hanson but my best friend had already "claimed him" so I pretended I was into Ike but I definitely wasn't.

  31. Happy birthday, I hope you have a wonderful day! Potatoes are seriously delicious, I like them in any form. Chinese food and a movie sound like the perfect celebration :)

  37. I used to love taking baths but my tub isn't as big as in my last place. I had my tongue pierced too. My first job was at Burger King and my friend worked at McD's fueds for days. Just kidding but I remember always smelling of fries and grease. Hope you have an amazing birthday!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Happy 29th!!! So exciting! Butter chicken? I used to cook everything in butter, and lots of it. Woody? That is way better than stinky, which is what my dad called me as a baby and STILL calls me now.

  43. Um, no I was going to marry Zac Hanson!! I sent him a fan letter with a picture of me when I was in third grade haha! People also used to tell me that I looked like him, so that was weird lol. (We really did have the same hair.) Also, I had my tongue (and belly button but I feel like that's normal and cute) pieced and it was like the worst thing I ever did. Everyone was telling me not to do it, but I used to be like, "I must try everything once!" So I did it, and it got infected and I still have a little bump in the middle of my tongue. It's gross. That's so interesting about your 6 names! That would be really hard to live with I would think. It reminds me of when my sisters and I name our first cat, it was like "Jasmine Lollypop Cotton Candy Hart Wray" lol. (Because we all had to pick a name and we had to put in two last names.) I think Kristen Lee sounds perfect. And wow did I just write a ton, sorry, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! This is such a good post.

  44. Happy birthday!!

I totally relate to number 3....what do you mean you don't...I just don't. Easy enough.

So sweet with the song :) you also look gorgeous at your wedding.

I love how you and your brothers look so similar and very cute babies.

Okay so Sophie is two, and refuses to wear shoes half the time in public. Lots of people comment on it. I'm sure people think we're lazy parents.

  45. HAPPY BIRTHDAY gurlie!!!! Love that sweet photo of you and your mom dancing at your wedding, and I'm not a fan of salt either. I never add it to anything unless a baking recipe calls for it. And lol at the Hanson brothers, I remember thinking I'd marry one of them too... Happy Friday and Birthday <3

  46. First of all HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! Second of all, could you possibly consider going back to your childhood hair look? I mean, woody for the win! (hahaha love it) I remember Unwritten Law - I think! I feel like busting out my emo-phase CD collection now and drinking a lot of wine. This was so fun to read! Hope you have a fabulous weekend lady! xo

    ReplyDelete
  47. Happy birthday!!!!! And also, I loved reading this list! Usually I find facts about people to be kind of boring (no offense, people!) but I'm so intrigued by yours. I mean, one cup of coffee in LIFE?! Even the sugary, fake, fancy drinks?! I'm amazed.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Happy Birthday, Kristen! (or Krissy. ;) ) That photo of you and your brothers is so adorable! Also, give me all the potatoes! Hehe.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Happy birthday pretty lady!! I hope you have a fantastic weekend filled with love. Oh and Toblerones are one of my favorite chocolates too and I have to bathe twice a day in the morning and night...that's just my weird routine.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Love these posts . . . aren't people so cool? We can all relate to these interesting facts . . . I loved to go barefoot as a kid too! And a hot bath helps me relax and is when I like to read. I thought coffee was gross until I was 37 - you've still got time! Ha! Enjoy your weekend and KC should be your house elf for at least a few days!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Six names?! I want to know all the other ones you had! Living in the south, there are a lot of double names here. Though usually it's the kid's first AND middle name, they just go by both of them.

You and your mom are adorable! I love that she had different songs for each of you. :)

What did they think was wrong with you?? Poor tiny baby having to have unnecessary surgery!

I was born in 1987 too! Happy birthday, friend!

    ReplyDelete
  52. BIRTHDAY LOVE! When I think about the fact that I was a teenager when you were born, I got a good chuckle out of that. I love potatoes. I hate coffee. I love the pic of you & your mum at your wedding. I don't know which Hanson is Zac. KC should totally be your house slave for the weekend. I've seen Unwritten Law and was too drunk to really remember if they were actually awesome or not. I thought they were awesome, but, you know, drunkenness can interfere with accurate judgement. Happy 29!

    ReplyDelete
  53. It's funny that you used to hate butter, because I used to LOVE IT. If we had buttered bread as a side with dinner I would just lick the butter off (I was a toddler). We have a video of it, it's pretty gross hahaha.

    Happy birthday!!

    ReplyDelete
  54. No one would bat an eye if you were walking around barefoot in Queensland! Happy birthday!

  55. Happy birthday (again)! :-)

I think we've talked about this a little before, but #3 is the exact same for me. I tried to have a relationship with my dad for a long time, but after a while I just didn't even like him or want to be around him. He's ... Not a nice person. That's my very nice way of putting things. I haven't talked to him since I was 19.

I kind of wish I'd done a mother/daughter dance at my wedding now. That was a really great idea!

I still have my tongue and bellybutton pierced. I don't really care about the bellybutton piercing anymore, but I still love my tongue ring. I think a lot of people don't even realize it's pierced, though. Haha.

The little kid/baby pictures are adorable!

Oh, and people have called me "Kristine" and "Christian" before as well. I'm like, "Really?" I also hate when people spell it "Kristin," but I hate it even more if it's at work and someone is responding to an email I sent. I'm like, "Seriously?!?!? My name is RIGHT THERE at the top of the email! Look up!" I don't know why, but it just really pisses me off.

    Enjoy your birthday weekend! :-)

    1. I get work emails all the time with my name spelled wrong (Beverly instead of Beverley). My email address is literally my name @ company.com! Also, one of my proofreaders ALWAYS spells it wrong, which makes me doubt her proofreading skills.

  57. I love this list! I get all kinds of nicknames for Christina too, usually Christine. I forgot about Unwritten Law! I used to love Seeing Red. Ha! I've been grinding my teeth at night since college and have to wear a mouth guard now. Boo! Happy birthday, again. :) It sounds like the perfect relaxing weekend.

  58. There are seriously so many things I want to comment on here and I was trying to remember them but the list started getting too long, lololol... so, I'm gonna go with: POTATOES! I feel the EXACT same way! They're good no matter what, no matter how they're made. I've never met a potato dish I didn't like.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Cute baby pic! Oh I miss butter. And potatoes. I used to eat 2 slices of toast every morning with butter, but I'm trying to not eat butter anymore... or as much. I still have it on a biscuit if I ever eat a biscuit... which is so rare. I also miss potatoes. I haven't had french fries in months. Gah!

    ReplyDelete
  60. Happy belated birthday!! We're same birthday week twinsies! Baha. Also, I too thought that I would marry Zac Hanson. LOL. But seriously...I've never met a potato I didn't like in any shape or form. :D

  61. i LOVE potatoes. in any form. i remember when they used to be the devil, just like avocados or butter. put it all in my mouth.

  62. Happy Birthday!! Wasn't Kristy from the Babysitter's Club really called Kristen? So people calling your Kristy were half right ;-)

Mmm, potatoes! I would eat them every day if they weren't such a pain to chop/peel.

  63. LOVE. Woody!!

The fact that you referenced the Po-ta-toes video makes me so happy, and it makes me like you so much more than I already do!

  64. You had so much dark hair as a baby, adorable! And happiest of birthdays friend!

  65. Haha I'm glad Krissy didn't happen! I like you as a Kristen way more :) You and your mom look like twins in that photo. I know you've posted pictures of her before but something about that one just struck me how much you look alike! Your shoe story cracked me up and sounds like something I would have done as a kid...except I don't think anyone ever really pointed out any weird habits to me so I'm probably still doing them. I hope you had the happiest, happiest birthday!!!

    ReplyDelete
  66. I loved reading all these things about you! Girl, I have to wear a special, super expensive mouth guard when I sleep because of how bad I grind my teeth, and I don't do drugs. :) Taylor Hanson was my main squeeze, and that photo of you and your mom is so precious.

    ReplyDelete
  67. It's amazing how careless people can be with someone else's name. Your name is not that complicated... I don't get how people can repeatedly screw it up. It happens to me too, and it drives me crazy.

OMG I loved Unwritten Law when I was a teenager too! I never saw them live though because most of my friends had different taste in music.

I could not imagine life without butter. It gives me happiness. And yet I've never had butter chicken or butter chickpeas...though I totally want to.

I had my belly button pierced for YEARS too. Always wanted my tongue pierced but never did it. Plenty of tattoos instead haha. Love the story of your second tattoo!

Always love posts like these and I want to respond to every single thing but for the sake of not leaving the longest comment ever, I won't ;) Happy belated birthday again, hope you had a wonderful day <3

  68. Happy belated birthday!! So many fun facts. I also love potatoes and thought I was gonna marry Zac Hanson! Hahaha

  69. Wow! Six names?! Loved learning some new things about you and hope you had a wonderful birthday!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Happy birthday!! Toblerones are awesome and so are potatoes! 6 names is really a lot. One of my sisters has two middle names, and I thought her name was long. I was surprised when I found out my husband only has the two names, not even a middle name.

    ReplyDelete
  71. OMG! Happy late birthday!!! Love reading these facts - 6 names?!

    ReplyDelete
  72. Bahahaha your dentist. How did your mom react to that diagnosis? How old were you during your shoeless period? One of my facts is that I've been scared of dying since I was a little kid, so not wearing shoes could lead to stepping on a rusty nail, which could lead to tetanus, which could lead to a terrible infection, which could lead to death. I bet your dentist would've said I was on drugs, too, but for different reasons. XD

    1. well i was in high school during the shoeless period haha. i want to say 12 or 13, at least. i am scared of that as well, but thankfully wasn't when i was younger. i think my dentist was a quack lol.
