January Shopping

Okay, I know it's not the end of the month yet but I am 99% sure I can stay strong this weekend, so I wanted to share everything I bought in January:

8 books (my bad) $29
2 mascaras $10
A reversible dress / cover up which will be great for the cruise, vegas and just summer in general. $29
A beanie $12
3 things from Forever 21 during a crazy sale - reversible bikini bottoms, a tank top + a christmas gift. I had to pay for shipping, but the total was only $23.
1 pair of jeans + new sweatpants but KC was with me for these purchases so it's okay. I needed new jeans because I might have ripped mine don't judge me. $40 jeans and I think $20 sweatpants.

I don't know if you can really tell in the photo, but the jeans have a criss cross stitching design on the sides. I got them from nordstrom rack but it looks like they are sold out online.

Anyway, so the total is: $163. I thought I'd kept it low this month, oops. I guess that's not bad but it could have been better.

I desperately (yes, desperately) need some new work pants but I held off. I bought some back in November but they never arrived (thanks Target) so I'm still on the search. February is a free for all (okay, maybe not that crazy) as it's BIRTHDAY MONTH!

Also, I did not eat out for lunch at work at all which is a HUGE deal for me. I did visit the vending machine several times, but that's neither here nor there. No jimmy johns, focus on that. High fives!

Definitely not a complete no spend month, but not bad at all. Like I said, next month is birthday month, but I might try a no spend March. We'll see.

I also wanted to remind you all of the link up that Gretch and I are starting next Thursday. For more information, check out this post but basically you can link up with anything you want, as long as you link back to us!

What's New With You

Have a good weekend all!

  1. $163 isn't bad at all - plus you got some great sounding stuff to show for it! I shudder to think what I spent, but maybe it's not so bad if I actually looked at it all and tallied it up (maybe haha). I think not eating out for lunch is the best way to cut back - I never buy lunch (at least not for the last year) and its absolutely crazy thinking how much extra I've saved! Xx

  10. That is not bad at all for how many things you got! And it seems like most of them were much needed for trips :) And going all month without buying lunch is a huge accomplishment, you probably saved so much money on that alone.

  11. Wow you got some great deals!! I think you did great!! Bring lunch for the month is a huge deal. You do really save money. It took me a long time to get it the habit of bring lunch with me. I can't remember the last time I went out for lunch. It's been that long.

  14. $29 for 8 books is actually a really good deal. And the other stuff was all necessary AND it balanced out with you not going out to eat for lunch at work so it's a success!

  15. $163 is definitely not bad!! I spent almost that on just my hair. Yikes! And holla for birthday month spending!

  17. That's not bad at all! I didn't buy any clothes... I don't think. But I did buy new bras... and sadly if you want a decent quality bra in my size range... they're at least $70 each. Which makes my heart hurt but I need them. So... that's what February $ will probably be spent on. Sigh. I bought some in-app photo editing filters etc, and a CD, and maybe some things like pens and washi tape from Paper Source.. but those are sort of office supplies these days.. for me! ha XO -Alexandra

  22. Great job! I didn't shop hardly at all for January until last night when i went nuts on the Ulta website. oh well! Not eating out probably saved you a ton of money so $163 isn't to bad. Enjoy the weekend!

  23. Those jeans look great on you! Crazy how much those little expenses end up adding up over a month!

  24. Good job on the eating at work every day - I waste so much money every day...

I just started keeping record of my money in January ... OH MY WORD!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have some work to do.

  25. Not going out for lunch at work is so hard, especially when you have coworkers that you like and want to go out to eat with! Major props to you for being able to complete it! And books are totally a necessity, right? I don't think that you should include those in your totals because I don't think the smart humans would be able to survive without them!

  26. Great job in my opinion! 8 books? Gosh I need to catch up and just simply start the new dean Koontz I have sitting on my bedside table. You look fab by the way! Happy weekend!

  29. $163 doesn't seem too bad! At least they were all smaller purchases and not big ones :) And birthday month is always a big splurge one. You have to celebrate you!

  30. I think you did great this month! It's hard to cut off everything - and little things can just add up. And yes, shop on your bday! haha I might have bought something for myself yesterday. A gift to myself. :)

  31. It's hard to pass up good deals sometimes ;) Super impressive on no eating out at work though- that is BIG! Those can add up so fast! :) Also WOOP WOOP for bday month! :)

  32. I love Kut from the Kloth! I got a pair of those from my Nordstrom Rack at the end of summer on clearance. They are crazy comfy! Ohhh what day is your birthday? How exciting!!! And high five to No Jimmy Johns!

  33. Good job not going out for lunch! Picking up food is a struggle for me too, and I'm going on a Wallet Watch in February partly because of that. And because of a busy and expensive spring I might be Wallet Watching in March too so you'll have a buddy there ;)
I love those jeans and your whole simple but perfect outfit in that photo. You rock, lady.

  34. Love the new jeans! I giggled at the "my bad" for books. Also, you did such an amazing job with your spending!

  35. 8 books for $29 sounds like awesome deals!

  36. Not bad on the spending front! And hey, those jeans look great on you! I look forward to seeing what fun things your birthday month brings your way! :)

  37. I think $163 is awesome! And I love those jeans... the sides ARE sweet!

  38. Oh man I have been spending so much money lately. With the whole divorce thing going on I think I have been going crazy because it's "my" money again and I don't have to worry about budgets or whatever like I did before. But I REALLY need to go back to how I was (or at least, not buy everything I see just because I want it!) because I think my bank account will be at $0 soon and I don't want that!! :P I like the jeans you got! Have fun doing some guilt-free spending next month ;)

  39. Those jeans are so cute! And, books are always a good purchase :)

  40. I'm really impressed at not eating out for lunch at work, that's something I really need to cut back on but find so hard! I really like your new jeans, and when you see a pair that work YOU BUY THEM. I currently have 4 pairs of jeans and 1 pair that actually fits.... I just panic buy them because that one pair is juuuuust about to die and when they do I literally have no idea what I'm going to do. Jeans, man.

  41. Those jeans are so worth it (and why do our jeans rip so easily.?)

    ReplyDelete
  42. LOVE THOSE JEANS! I think I've done pretty good this month. I think. Kinda stopped keeping track in the middle of the month because I've been so busy. Maybe I'll join in on this monthly spending challenge to motivate me to save more!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Those new jeans look fabulous on you! That's so weird that your dress pants never arrived from Target - wtf?! And, heck yes to February being a free for all month - I love that I have a birthday buddy!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I feel like books totally don't count! Right?!

    ReplyDelete
  45. I really should keep track for a month, just to see where all my money is really going. $163 isn't all that bad. Seriously though, birthday month is treat yo' self month, so go for it!

    ReplyDelete
  46. I don't think $163 total is really that terrible, especially if you weren't on a spending freeze or anything. I think you got the books at a great price, and $10 for two mascaras sounds great to me (though I think the mascara I've fallen in love with is something like $15 or $18 for one ... So obviously $10 for two is a steal!)

I really like the stitching on those jeans. That was actually the first thing I noticed in the picture, and then I laughed when I scrolled down and saw you'd mentioned it.

Not eating out for lunch at all is great, though! I usually don't go out for lunch at work unless we're celebrating someone's birthday or something (which isn't too often when you work in a small department), but I'm usually horrible with buying Starbucks Doubleshots and snacks while I'm at work.

Eric and I have started keeping a pretty big stash of granola bars (mostly Kashi, Nature Valley, and, my personal favorite, Clif Bars) at home, and I grab one of those each day before work so I'm not tempted to hit the vending machines when I want a snack. (They're also so much better for me than the chips or cookies I'd probably end up getting!) Since we started doing that, my spending on snacks at work has decreased dramatically.

Last month I only bought two Doubleshots and 1 bag of chips, and that's amazing for me. This month the goal is not to buy any Doubleshots, sodas, or snacks at work!
