December Shopping

So my goal for December was to not buy a single thing for myself. I still had to grab a couple bottles of wine and such for KC's family for Christmas, send some gifts to Australia, but I didn't need anything for myself.

Well. I 'failed'. But whatever. I bought a couple of things.

This post contains affiliate links meaning if you click, I make like 2 cents off that click, so thank you muchly.
I bought this running headband. I normally hate any kind of headband, plus I don't really run outside in the winter, but I've been running with my bestie and it's cold, my ears were not a fan. So. Headband. KC was with me when I bought this, he approved it, etc etc. That sounds weird, like I need his approval, but most of my shopping is done kind of sneaky like (he can see the accounts so it's not that sneaky) so if and when I ask for something and he approves it, it doesn't really count, because he never approves anything. That sounds bad. Moving on.

I also bought this bag. It doesn't really count though, because a) it was only $20. b) I hate the bag I bought last month. c) I got a refund from Target for the pants I never received, and a refund from F21 because those shirts were horrible.

I have no excuse for these striped flats from Express. They were on sale and free shipping, I've been looking for a pair of striped flats for over a year (I had a pair that I wore to death) but still. No excuse.

I also bought a new-to-me dress. For work. 'Scuse the bathroom selfie. Kind of similar options: one / two / three.

and then I bought this dress and cover up, for the cruise that I will not be going on if I don't stop bloody shopping.

I also bought two more bikini tops because hashtag sale. They are the same as the one I bought last month but different colours / prints.

Ahem. Then I went and got a dress from TJ Maxx also for the cruise, but I can wear it to Vegas too. It's also available here but I didn't pay that much, naturally.

Finally.. I bought a floppy hat. But if I paid less than $5 does it really count? Does it?

So. That is what a month of 'no shopping' looks like for me. Seriously, I have got to stop. Did I need any of these things? No. Were any of them very expensive? No. Is it really that big a deal? No. But it needs to stop. I also bought a few other things that aren't pictured, like a foam roller, a cat bed, some weird miscellaneous things that I have a slight obsession with... so I really just have to stop shopping.

My goal in 2015 was to pay off debt and I did not do it. It might seem okay to buy something here or there, but if it's stopping me from paying off debt it's just stupid and needs to stop. So. January. No shopping.

  2. I love that dress you wore to work! I know exactly what you mean when you say it doesn't count because KC was with you. I use the exact same thought process. Good luck next month!

  3. I clicked through all the links, so you made like a whole quarter or something. Congratulations ;) I love that bag and I thought it was Kate Spade! She has the same design so I think that's a great purchase. I'm supposed to do a no buy for 6 months....kill me now :(

  4. That black and white houndstooth dress is the best thing ever. I wish I could find the exact one!

I do think you should read the Shopaholic books this year. Her logic is so ridiculously flawed when it comes to spending money/shopping...it'll make you feel better!

  6. Well, I think you were very reasonable even if it wasn't technically NO shopping. It was limited, reasonable shopping. But then I'm a blogger and my definition of normal shopping is skewed so don't listen to me. And BTW, are you wearing the Target Hadley booties in the outfit with your new dress?? If so, I am jealous. They are out of stock and I want them. I passed them up in store once telling myself I didn't need them, and later decided that I DO need them. But now they're gone. Boo hoo.

  7. It's so hard to not shop, especially when things are on sale... :)

  8. I bought a bunch of on clearance bathing suit options from victorias secret, the main reason being they were CLEARANCE and the other bing the carry my size, which nobody actually does in bathing suit tops. So, they were like free.

  10. Those flats are so adorable though, I wouldn't have been able to pass them up either! One of my 101 in 1001 is to not buy anything for myself for a while month, except for necessities, and I know that it's going to be so hard! Especially when you're about to go on a trip, it's bare not to buy new things!

  11. You cant NOT shop in December when everything is on sale like it is...
Now, I'm with you - I'm on a January shopping freeze - especially when my December credit card statements come in & I'm shocked to death

  12. Nah, $5 doesn't count. That's less than the price of a meal at almost any place for lunch. That dress is cute, and I like the first one you linked to, with the polka dots :/...I could see myself looking for one of those wrap-style dresses.

  13. I'm so bad with no spend challenges too :( I think someone just needs to take my card away lol. You did get some cute stuff though. And SO many sales in December, I think it's impossible to avoid them all!

  14. Those flats, though - I approve that purchase. :)

  16. I love that headband. I can't run without one if it's below 50º outside, my ears just will not have it. Even with a headband sometimes my ears hurt.
That houndstooth dress is really cute, and I love the beach coverup too. I haven't had a proper one in years, but I've yet to find one in-store that I really love even though I really want to find one!
Glad you bought a foam roller—which one did you end up with? If it helps keep you injury-free, it's a smart spend I think!
Good luck with not spending in January. As always, if you ever need me to keep you from clicking that "Order" button, just text me ;)

  17. ahahah, if it's less than $5 totally all for that not counting. I mean that's like a fancy coffee, right? lol. I've been slowly but surely unsubscribing from all of the store emails so I'm not tempted every 5 seconds by a sale. I'm obsessed with that bikini cover up and love both dresses. Also, if it makes you feel better one of my goals for this month was not to shop and I was out "running errands" today aka shopping. FAIL.

  18. I could write a post every month too about all the things I bought that I shouldn't have or told myself I wouldn't....maybe I should start haha! I get that it all adds up, but it doesn't sound like the things you bought were expensive, and they all seem justifiable. But still, I totally get the need to cut it out and I need to do the same thing!

  19. You're too funny. In your defense, it sounds like you got mostly everything on sale or for a very low price so why not?! I love the striped flats from Express. I'm always looking for flats for work.

  20. Those flats are so cute. It is justifiable when they don't cost a lot but they do add up.

  21. All of these things are worthy of needing! Seriously.. good deals and great finds!

  22. Oh gosh, you sound like me lol. My no spend January is already shot and its only the 6th! Oh well lol. I came here looking at your review for your planner and started poking around. Your shoes are adorable and I don't blame you for buying them. I have a thing for stripes, particularly if they are navy.

  23. The new dress for work and the flats are my favorites ... I would totally wear both of those things!

I was really bad about buying new clothes for myself in November and December, but I'm sticking with the "spend less/save more" goal this month. I will probably end up getting some new workout shoes in the next couple of months (once I figure out what I want), but I have a few gift cards, so they'll likely be free (or pretty close!).

  24. Good luck with your no shopping in January goal!!

  25. We are on a tight spending freeze in January too. Bad thing is, I have no idea what we bought in December!
