2015 aka that time I was 28.

Yay it's recap time again! I love yearly recaps, I know some people break them up but eh I kinda dig it all in one spot. I love to look back on the year, I feel like it amps me up for the next one. I discovered this year I didn't do a whole lot of memory recording on this blog and I want to change that for 2016. As for 2015, I decided less words, more pictures.

The start of the year is cold and miserable, let's be real. We celebrated a few birthdays and hibernated the rest of the month away. Also, I got a tooth taken out and that was miserable but made for a pretty funny blog post. It was cold outside, shockingly.

I did pretend to be a bridesmaid and get married again, so that was fun. All of those photos are courtesy of Casey Taylor Photography. I got a garmin for my birthday and was obviously fairly stoked. It snowed, also shockingly.

I went to DC for a runcation with Alyssa and Tracy, had a St Paddys party.

We saw Bill Burr (KC's favourite) and went to a soccer game. Friends had babies. We went to the Derby, which is always a fun time.

The biggest thing of the year was obviously Europe. We also did a colour run, so that was fun. Spent some time in the pool, got my hair chopped off, as you do.

We went down / up / sideways to Illinois to spend 4th of July with his family. More soccer games (I discovered I don't particularly like soccer games).

The rest of the year brought lots of girls dinners, nights out and KC's 30th which we celebrated with by eating qdoba (I refuse to eat there the rest of the year, I'm so nice). We went out for Halloween, we went to Disney and Universal, where I was lucky enough to meet Kate, Pam, Kerri and Emily. We spent time with the cats and family and friends, what more can you ask for?

Christmas this year was great. First, I got my grinch on, but then I was able to enjoy it. This was my 4th Christmas away from home and it is definitely getting easier. I got my crackers and was able to speak to my family several times.

We rang in the New Year similar to last year - although this year, we hit a thrift store party first, hence the interesting outfits. I made it home by midnight to ring in the new year with KC - as you can see, he was super excited about that.

and that was 2015.

Looking back on it, it doesn't seem like we did a lot. I mean, we did a lot but there were more big things than small things (that sounds bad, it's hard to explain) but 2015 was a great year, a bigger and better year than ever before, and most of that is not visible or tangible. I finally feel like I like myself now, or at least don't actively hate myself. I am more comfortable in my skin than ever before, I have zero toxic people in my life (except for work, and that can't be helped), I hardly did any thing I didn't want to do, and I mean, what's better than that? A year filled with friends, happiness, cats, travel.. not bad, I say. Not bad.

Also, I wanted to say thank you to all the people who come to this space of mine, those who allow me to be nosy and creep into your lives. I have made some amazing actual real friendships through blogging, something I never would have thought possible, and I truly enjoy this little hobby and being a stalker and following along with all y'all. So, thank you!

Here's to 2016!

  9. That's an awesome year!! I'm glad that the holidays are getting easier each year you are away. It's good to hear ... I probably cried 3 times on Christmas Eve. #emotionalgirlprobs Anyhow... Europe alone made this year great for you for sure. Not to mention you took other trips as well. I love these NYE photos. So cute, the thrift store outfits are kind of adorably vintage. That's a funny idea for a party, I love it! :) Happy 2016! XO - Alexandra

  38. How could you pick Europe over Harry Potter World?!?! ;P
I'm allll about cutting toxic people out of my life whenever possible... like you said, usually work people can't be helped. But as far as friends - hell, even FAMILY - if you don't add something good to my life YOU NEED TO GO! We're too "old" and too good for that shit! :)

  39. I think you had an incredible year. Big trips sometimes cut out small trips but that is not a bad thing. Being surrounded with good people, non-toxic people is a very good thing!

  42. Dude. Your last sentence had the proper use and spelling of y'all. You've made this Southern girl proud. And, you know, I mean Southern like from the South of Texas...but now, I'm in the Southern Hemisphere. Whoa.

Anywho...your post wasn't about that at all. I loved your recap and your pics. I think that your bestie and KC are both perfectly suited for you in pictures. You kids always look so great together!

Cheers to a great 2015, and even better 2016, and what? what's that you say? 2017 you're coming to Australia! Wowza! ;)

  56. I love these pictures ... So much fun and happiness! :-)

I also loved the end of this post. I think it's awesome that you had such a great year, and, most importantly, learned to be more comfortable in your own skin and kinder to yourself. These are still the things I struggle with most from time to time (though not as much as I did when I was in my early 20s). I think some of it comes with getting older (and more mature!), but some of those insecurities just love to hang around even if you otherwise feel pretty good about where you're at (at least for me). I didn't mean to get all serious here, but these are the things that came to mind as I read the last part of your post.

Anyway, I'll end on a lighter note: I'm glad 2015 was awesome for you, and I hope you have an even better 2016!

  59. Scuse the slightly stalkerish catching up going on here. I think I know what you mean about feeling like you didn't do much (even though you totally did, and how cool to put it all next to each other and see how much there really was!) but sometimes we just need those years where we get on with living for a bit. I'm also totally with you in the whole being a happier person thing. I think I learned to be a whole lot kinder to myself last year, also ditched unnecessary toxicity and am in such a better place for it. I think maybe it's a growing up thing? And if that's true, then maybe 30 won't be so bad after all :)
