Apparently yesterday was the first day of Winter. We all know how I feel about seasons starting randomly in the middle of the month (not random at all, actually, but moving on) so I won't go on about that today, but rather I thought I'd be an annoying debbie downer a different way, and talk about how much I hate Winter, and why.
Things I hate about Winter:
It's cold.
There is ice on my windshield and it makes it hard to see.
I have to scrape said ice, and that adds time to my morning routine, I'm not a fan of that.
I get ice / snow all over me when I scrape, which of course makes me colder.
You can't use your wipers on the ice, apparently.
You also shouldn't put water in your wiper thingy because apparently it can freeze (who knew? NOT the Australian).
My feet are always cold.
Snow is wet.
The idiot who parks on the road, thus making the snow plow man miss our driveway. Super not fun, rude parking on the street guy.
Everywhere cranking the heat. I'm sweating before I can get my damn coat off.
Getting out of the hot bath or shower. No fun.
I get super complainy. Seriously, I'm so annoying.
The sun deceives me. It's sunshiney and bright because of the snow, but still bloody cold. Rude.
Thermostat wars.
Driving. I do not drive well in the snow, I'm sure I piss people off, but the cocky arrogant bastards who've been driving in the snow since they were like 5 and are sitting up my ass because wah I'm going slow so I don't die - guess what, you're not making it any easier.
Being in the passenger seat. KC is one of those cocky arrogant bastards. Okay, not really, but he's 1000% more comfortable behind the wheel than I am, and I cry just as much in the passenger seat. I just want to stay home please.
KC gets snow days. That's annoying. But he drives me, so that's cool.
Hot tea or hot chocolate makes everything fabulous for like 5 minutes, but then it's empty and I have to make another, but I don't want to get up because cold.
Dirty snow. It's pretty for like 5 minutes.
Permanently wrapping myself in a blanket makes going to the bathroom or leaving the house inconvenient.
Did I mention it's cold. Never mind that December has been unseasonably warm so far, I bet we will be paying for it in like April when Spring doesn't show up.
Things I like about Winter:
I can keep a chapstick in my car and it doesn't melt.
We don't have to mow the grass.
Kentucky isn't as bad as other places, thank Zeus. It could be worse, y'all.
Linking up with Kathy and Nadine.
What's your favourite thing about Winter?
Aw I feel you on not being a fan of winter. Hence why I moved to where there was no winter. It sucks! But you're right, it could be worse! And at least when you're inside it can be pretty to look at! <3, Pamela Sequins & Sea Breezes
ReplyDeleteDriving in the snow totally stresses me out, mostly because all the other cars are just flying by me.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing I like about winter is being able to eat lots of food under the premise of hibernation, and lighting candles. That's literally it. The rest of the time, I'm complaining so loud I'm surprised you can't hear me all the way across the Atlantic!
ReplyDeleteHaha you just made me happy I don't have to deal with all of that. But it sure is pretty to look at. I hope you stay warm and maybe this winter won't be as bad? Xo
ReplyDeleteI HATE scraping the ice off the windshield!! Its my dream to one day have a garage just because it means no more scraping! Luckily I've only had ice on my windshield twice this winter!
ReplyDeleteLOL! This is good! Enjoy the mild weather while we're having it, because, like you said, we'll probably pay for it in April.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite thing about winter - not sweating immediately when I leave an air conditioned space to go outside and snow days.
I hate winter too, friend. It's the season I pick to hate and I don't complain about the other ones. Cold sucks, warm is great!
ReplyDeleteHaha yes to all of the above! I don't own any but they make this spray that you can put on your icy windows & then it comes off almost instantly. Or you can go the cheap way that I always did... either a)start your car like 15 min before you leave or b)Sit in your car, push the button to make the windshield washer fluid come out & wipe until it's gone.
ReplyDeletei seriously loathe winter. well except florida winter :) i lived in PA for 20 years and i don't think i could go back to snow! all of those reasons make it the worst. ugh.
ReplyDeletexoxo cheshire kat
You are speaking the words in my head... I HATE HATE HATE winter.
ReplyDeleteThe getting out of the shower thing? ... I have literally cried thinking about stepping out of the warmth of the shower into the cold tiled room... I keep a heater going in there but its STILL not enough.
I don't like winter either, but I love snow! I wish it could be 50 degrees but snowy ;)
ReplyDeleteYou're hilarious but I agree with you 100%. Thankfully it doesn't snow here so I'm saved from that but just can't deal with any kind of cold. Hoping for an easy winter for you! Merry Christmas to you and KC!
ReplyDeleteHahahahahah that poem! I love the cold, but I am a yankee stuck in the south so there is that. I do not love scraping windshields, driving in dangerous conditions or the heat war with my spouse and every store on the planet. Each season has its ups and downs.
ReplyDeleteAnyone who tailgates in snow and ice is a total asshole. That's why accidents happen.
ReplyDeleteThis is an El Nino year so we're expecting a mild winter in PA...which I dislike because then the ticks and varmints outside never truly die and they're terrible the next year.
So the only time I actually start hating winter is in February when I can't take anymore!! I will say putting all the layers on and then waiting inside drives me insane - I'm sweating and I want to be outside with the cold air to breathe again haha!! xo, BIana -BlovedBoston
ReplyDeleteThankfully we don't have super cold winters with lots of snow in Texas, but I think that I would like the snow for maybe five minutes before I would be complaining about it too! I know that I would hate the fact that it makes everything cold! And why oh why do places crank the heat up to 80 during the winter? If you're hot at 80 during the summer, you're even hotter during the winter at 80 with your heavy jacket! So true about not wanting to get out of the shower during the winter too! I always wonder why I even bother to shave my legs during the winter, it just seems so pointless!
ReplyDeleteYeah, definitely don't come to the northeast in February. I've started to like the winter much more as I've gotten older but nothing will ever make the tons and tons of ice EVERYWHERE okay. Or the 15-foot-high piles of snow because it just won't stop. But we haven't had a single flake here yet this year and it's been raining and foggy for 3 days and it's like 60 degrees and that's equally as depressing this time of year. Ugh.
ReplyDeleteYes, yes, yes. This is the only week of the year where I look forward to snow and the cold... and of course it's 60 degrees out! Just hoping this means our winter isn't going to start late and last until May, wah! :( But at least yes to no lawn work, lol!
ReplyDeleteSo it's pretty mild here, like it's been 45-50 (but rainy) lately, so whenever we get snow (not super often) I LOVE it. Nobody really knows how to drive in snow here or prepares for it because it happens so infrequently, so snow days are always a thing which I love. BUT I think dirty snow/slush is super hideous and I know if I had snow for like three months I would HATE IT. But I feel you on the driving thing. Last night I was driving home on a back road which is pretty windy, not lit up, and it was pouring, and the inside of my windshield was all streaky from a (failed) attempt to clean it...so I was going the speed limit (maybe a bit below at times) and a SEMI-TRUCK was on my ass. Like seriously?! These conditions are awful, if I'm slowing down in my tiny car, you should probably slow down your multiple-ton death truck. Geez.
ReplyDeleteAlso yes to the random (but not random) season markers. Everybody knows December 1-February 28/29 is winter (well, here...not in Australia of course).
I would like to co-sign this entire post! All of the above is why I moved away from Connecticut, and Florida is the best thing that ever happened to me. Oh how I loathe the cold and old man winter :-P
ReplyDeleteGreen Fashionista
I've been driving in snow since the day I got my license...I drive slow too though because of the whole not dying thing.
ReplyDeleteThe farther north you go, the better the drivers get because they're used to it. Missouri was the worst.
I don't mind winter for December and January but once March arrives I hate the spring/winter hybrid season that always begins.
nothing about winter is my favourite. i loathe winter...which is ironic considering i live in a frozen tundra for like, 6 months of the year. rage.
ReplyDeleteI hate winter and snow! The only good things about winter are the holidays! And I guess nothing beats cuddling up with a blanket, some tea, and a book :) It's been so warm lately, so I'm dreading the time when it's finally gonna get chilly.
ReplyDeleteHahahaha awww. My mom is from the tropics and she's always said that Winter is her favorite, and we always assumed it was because she never got it when she was younger. But clearly that is not the case for everyone. I just flew home to Virginia for the holidays from Ireland, and it's like 60F here!!! Barely Winter at all xxx haha
ReplyDeleteHot Cocoa is amazing except for when it's gone and I realize I could drink it bottomless but it was a splurge over the tea right next to it in the pantry. I'm all about rejecting winter, mainly because I don't understand a blanket scarf.
ReplyDeleteTexas has random winters. Sometimes hot, sometimes freezing, mostly pretty mild. Not much snow...it can happen, but doesn't happen often. So, I didn't grow up a big fan of winter either. Then....... when I was 19, I thought it would be a fantastic idea to get married and move to North Dakota (LONG story...the teacher is who we are talking about). Holy fuckballs. North Dakota is colder than cold. I cried more those two winters than any winter since.
ReplyDeleteThat shower funny is so my house bc our master bath is just randomly colder than the rest of the damn house! However, I love winter bc I hate being hot so this rainy/70 degree Christmas eve weather in VA is for the birds! Ugh! Merry almost Christmas pretty lady! xo
ReplyDeleteAgreed! I am not a cold weather girl. I need the sun and the warmth...
ReplyDeleteSo funny! Living in Florida our winters are usually pretty nice (kind of like fall everywhere else) but this year it's SO WARM and I want to be transported to a cold place lol.
ReplyDeleteThe snow is so pretty for like 5 minutes and then....no. I'm definitely a fan of mild winters....cold enough that there's a definitive difference from the other seasons, and maybe a little snow, but not so much that it wears out its welcome. Although, this 80* on Christmas business is also bullshit haha!
ReplyDeleteAt least it's been a super El Nino year! It was 70 in DC for Christmas. I hate driving in snow/ice too. I can't wait until I can afford a big all-wheel drive SUV so that I'm not worried about myself or my poor car in the snow anymore.
ReplyDeleteWell, it's fitting that I'm reading this now considering we have a winter storm warning and already have about half an inch of snow on the ground - it's only been snowing for a half hour. I hear you about the drivers - I grew up driving in this crap, and I'm still not good/used to it! I make Ryan drive everywhere when it's like this.
ReplyDeleteWhy have I forgotten which state you live in? It has been baking hot here. Not today; it's back in the 40's, so maybe that means it's finally gonna be winter weather. I HATE scraping ice! My car is super tiny, so anytime it gets a slight chill, my car will be the only car in the parking lot that is covered in ice haha. I always put water on my icy windshield...oops.
ReplyDeleteNow I see it, Kentucky, duh :).
DeleteCome on down to Florida, girl! It was 86 degrees today!
ReplyDeleteScraping snow/ice BLOWS. Not only does it take more time, but my arms always get tired halfway through! lol
ReplyDeleteDirty snow is disgusting... totally with you on that one! If it could stay off the road and WHITE on everything else, I'd be much more down with it.
Absolutely agree....with all those reasons! I hate winter too.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree with all of this. I never understand people who like the cold. I was happy with a warm Christmas.
ReplyDeletehahaha YES. The first time I experienced snow in Norway, I had that thought of "Snow is WET." It was mind blowing. It soaks through everything and is icy cold. UGH. It's nice for a few days, but that's it!!
ReplyDeleteBahahah!! I am loving that last meme with Elsa. (That's the part I'm laughing at here...not your entire post.) That is so me. I HATE the cold. I didn't realize Kentucky could be so cold and get so much snow (I guess I just think of it as The South, and I don't think of Southern states as being snowy). Here's to hoping El Nino will make your winter short and not horrendous!
ReplyDeleteWINTER IS THE WORST. I spent 26 years in Minneapolis before I moved to southern Georgia and then on to Texas and that was 25 years too many in the coldest city in America. F that. Our winter days are like 60 degrees so I'm pretty sure you should just move here to Texas :)
ReplyDeleteI loooove winter :D Second favorite season after autumn. I haven't lived in a place that consistently gets snow since I was in middle school, so I really miss it. Yeah it sucks to get wet snow in your clothes, but warming up afterwards feels so good that I don't even mind. I also prefer being cold to being outrageously hot. Also, no allergy trouble or blasted insects to deal with. I agree that driving in the snow is slightly terrifying, though. Eek.
ReplyDeleteOh man, I am not a fan of the cold. I love Christmas so I handle the cold fine until Christmas is over. And then there's just no excuse for the cold anymore, haha! Which is funny because the worst of winter here is usually January-March. I just hate the feeling of being so cold all the time and never properly warming up. That 101 Dalmatians GIF is 100% is me in the winter. ;)
