October Shopping

It's been a while since I shared my shopping, last time I did I had gone a whole month without shopping. That was in April. I was very well behaved in May, nothing to report. June brought Europe so it didn't count. But I meant to start tracking again in July.. August.. September... Ooops.

I thought I had my shopping addiction under control, but I don't. I don't remember what I bought the last few months but I know September was out of control, even though I returned a lot of it. October had to be better, so I started tracking again.

I love shopping. I think we all know that. It just makes me happy. I don't want it to, but it does. The thing is, lots of other things make me happy as well, and shopping takes away from those things. It's a matter of choosing what I want more, travel or new shoes. A new bed, or new clothes. I also want to be able to buy something I really really want, rather than wasting money on so-so things and not being able to afford the amazing things when they come around.

Anyway, enough rambling about my shopping issues. This month I bought:

A bunch of books. Most were using the gift card I won from Steph and Jana. Some were not.

Candles from Bath & Body Works. I just mentioned I was completely out of these and Alyssa shared the mega sale. I am not sorry that I got 4 candles for $40. That is amazing. I didn't get the ones pictured (except sweater weather) but just pretend.

A tunic from Nordstrom but I returned it. It was too big and billowy at the bottom, hard to photograph. I just didn't love it, I almost kept it as it was only $25 something, but I don't want things I don't love.

aaaaand my biggest purchase. Here's the thing. A few weeks ago I told KC I was 100% buying a pair of Hunters before a trip we have coming up. I told him they were $150 and they never go on sale, but I've wanted a pair for like 10 years, zero exaggeration. I have tried other brands and I have never found a pair I like as much, not to mention the same quality. He said okay, and we moved on.

A few days later my bestie texted me that they were on sale at Costco for $80, and they were available online. That is literally too good a deal to pass up. KC did not agree, after all we had just bought a bed and were going to Disney in a few weeks.

Yeah, pretty big oops. I know I am a spoiled brat, but I really, really, really wanted them and it was such a good deal, I was afraid they would sell out.

I also bought some christmas presents and my part of the wildcard prize winner (Erin). Oh and we bought a bed, but that doesn't count because KC was involved in that purchase. Oh, and I bought a dress from She Inside (or SheIn) but haven't received it yet, so no comment. I've had some great luck with some of their things, and horrible luck with others. It was only $20 and had amazing reviews.

I know sharing here helps me because I don't want to be embarrassed by how much I spend, but I know this isn't terribly exciting which is why I am posting on the weekend.

Anyway. I didn't go crazy this month, but what with purchasing the hunters.. I need to slow down in November. I know, the month of black friday / cyber monday, can it be done? Not only that, but we are going to Disney. Almost all of our food is paid for, and I might get a mug or two, plus a souvenir from HP world.

Fingers crossed. I can do it. I don't need anything else.

  1. I go through cycle too and you got the Hunters with a good deal that may no have come around again. It is so hard not to buy I am hoping with the holidays my spending will be on other people and not myself. Fingers crossed.

  2. I have been doing really good with spending lately but I do feel like November may take me down..

  3. I'm the same way. I go through periods when I have to have everything because I just need it or might die. Then I have months when I don't want to spend money on anything not even groceries. I'm trying to keep myself under control right now because I need to finish up my Christmas shopping but there are just so many things I want to buy.

  4. Disney merchandise can bankrupt you. Which is why it's always a good idea to check out the outlet shops in the surrounding area. You can get a lot of similar or the same touristy stuff for a bit less than they charge in-park. Hope you have a wonderful trip!

  5. Buying things makes me happy too, and I really wish it didn't. I used to be really terrible with shopping, though. Like spend $500+ in one trip without even thinking about it bad.

I eventually got it under control, though I definitely still splurge from time to time. Like you were saying, I've been thinking about it more in terms of "This money could go toward new shoes or it could go into savings" instead of "I need this NOW, consequences be damned!"

I bought some new clothes in October, but nothing fancy (and nothing too crazy). I actually got an amazing deal on everything, since some things were BOGO 50% off, everything was an additional 30% off (since I bought a certain amount), and I had a gift card. I also bought through Swagbucks and earned 2 SB per dollar AND put it on a cash back card so I could get a little bit back there too. I ended up with 1 pair of jeans, 2 pairs of pants, 1 sweater, 1 long sleeve top, 1 short sleeve top, and 2 tank tops and it only cost $106 and some change. I thought that was pretty awesome. Hooray for deals!

P.S. I felt kind of silly sharing so much about my recent shopping experience, but if anyone would appreciate this, it would be you. :-)

  6. Oh man this is a good idea, if I had to admit the things I bought this month I would probably be embarrassed and then realize why I'm broke lol. Things here & there really add up. But I couldn't because some things are hidden from my husband haha, so can't share ;) But for real, don't feel bad about the hunters. I finally bought a pair earlier this year and they have been the best thing I've got this year hands down. No regrets!!

  7. I think the things you purchased are GREAT and the Hunter boots at that price are SOOO worth it. Just tell KC that every time you wear them it's $1 and after x amount of days they are paid for, BOOOOOM! I like you spent a bit too much last month, but there were a ton of sales and I bought QUITE a few things on my list, so they weren't just splurge buys.

I'm with you in November. We got this!

  8. $80 Hunters??? I'm so jealous!!! I would've gotten two pair, lmao
I've been bad with shopping lately, too... but a lot of it has been Christmas shopping or stupid shit like car breaks and contacts, which makes me feel a little better. :) :P

  9. You definitely didn't spend that much this month, and everything you did buy was on sale! I loved the fact that when we went to Disney World everything was already pretty much paid for and we didn't have to worry about anything except for our souvenirs! I heard about the Hunter sale, and I'm so tempted to buy a pair, I just don't know if I'll use them that much in Texas!

  10. I think the boots were an amazing deal and you shouldn't feel bad at all for getting them! I've been thinking of investing as well, so i would have snatched them up :)

  11. You can't go wrong with Jojo Moyes and Liane Moriarty! Love your stack of books :)

  12. The candles sucked me in too, I did 6 and I'm not even sorry. They just posted my FAVE scents of the year so I'm dying for those to go on sale (the champagne-y ones they release before christmas/new years each year.) Fingers crossed they're part of a cyber monday sale!

  13. I do not pass up a BBW candle sale. They last forever and have the best "throw".

I might be the only person in the world who doesn't want a pair of Hunters. I'm not sure how I feel about them.

  14. You didn't do TOO bad -- plus $80 Hunters are super hard to pass up!! I loved FanGirl, so I hope you like it too!!

  15. I think KC will learn the Hunters were well worth it ;) I still swear they are some of the most comfortable shoes ever and so good for long walks while keeping your feet totally dry! So many new books make my heart happy! I haven't heard of the two at the top, but I just got After You from the library so that will force me to finally read it!

  16. I looooooove Hunters. I earned some extra money once for something extra I did at work and bought myself a pair. I was heartbroked to find out my calves are like, too short for them. They ran right into my knee caps and bent all weirdly. Maybe someday they'll make them for short legs. $80 is a great deal!

  17. I approve the Hunter purchase, because every lady has to have a stylish pair of rain boots :) Books and candles necessity so don't be too hard on yourself! I'm trying not to make any purchases for myself this month and instead focus on Christmas presents for others.

  18. hehe I definitely spent too much on fall clothes recently. I have been nearly out of things... but it still feels expensive.... : / But so far, I've been wearing them all, or deciding to return them. I feel good about being really intentional at least if nothing else... :) I have a pair of Hunters... but I'm not sure they are the right size... They aren't comfy, and I think they're supposed to be right...? Maybe I just haven't worn them enough yet. I also bought a lot of books in October... but we're doing better overall still. I think November/December will be relatively responsible shopping months... :) XO - Alexandra

  19. I'm trying to cut down my shopping, but it's so hard - especially when the seasons change! Haha, your Hunters are like my Birkenstock's. I keep telling Adam I'm going to buy a pair and they don't ever go on sale, so be prepared for a pricey purchase!

  20. OMG - I cannot believe that Costco has Hunter boots for $80! That's insane. I may have to follow your lead and get a pair, too. What dress did you get from SheIn? I'm on the hunt for a long sleeve cocktail dress for a wedding we have at the end of January, and I'm running out of places to look. Girl, I hear you about chilling on the shopping, but sometimes it just sucks you in, you know? The struggle is real.

  21. Yay for your Hunter boots!!!!! And that is a nice stack of books you have there too!!! Buy all the things!!! (I am a bad influence)

  22. Whaat?! B&BW had their candles on sale?! I always miss this! They need to have another sale soon because I could totally stock up on a few Christmassy scents! :)

    ReplyDelete
  23. I would've bought those boots too. No way would I let that sale go by if it was something I really wanted that never goes on sale.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Sometimes (ok, a lot of times) you just have to take advantage of ALL the sales! That BBW candle one sounds amazing! I'm already afraid for my wallet for Black Friday/Cyber Monday!

  25. Shopping makes me happy too. And it's so, so hard to stop. I have tried to have a spending freeze for the past 2 months and it's terrible. Plus I cheat. I also bought 4 BBW candles during the sale and then things like Halloween costumes that are now on sale? I can't resist. Because my dog obviously needs to be a giraffe next year. NEEDS to be. haha.

  26. Okay, I'm not a shopper (except for candles and running/yoga gear, oops every time) but I totally hear you about the Hunter boots. I was that way with my Longchamp. There's really nothing special about it—it's basically the most basic bag you can find for $125—but I just have always loved it and I wanted one. I wanted one for YEARS. I bought one after Christmas this year and you know, I've used that thing every single day since then and it won't be retired anytime soon. And, strangely, I'm super grateful for it all the time. The cost per use plus the fact that I am still, 11 months later, really happy that I bought it, means it was worth every penny to me. I imagine the Hunters are/will be the same way for you. (PS, I kind of feel the same way about Hunters too. If they ever go on that sale again PLEASE TELL ME.)

  27. I checked out Costco after you emailed me about the boots deal and they only had size 5 and 12 in every color. Bummer! I'm so glad you got them though! :)

  28. Omg. My spending over the past two months has been ridiculous. Like maybe 3 times as much as yours. And now I reallllllly want a new couch but I have to save more money first. Darn those impulse buys!!!!

  29. I want those books! I read Fangirl and I enjoyed it. Not as much as I loved Eleanor & Park, but pretty high up there and I cannot wait to read Carry On, the story that is the subject of the fanfiction in Fangirl.

  30. There's a Pumpkin Sugared Doughnut candle?!?!?!?! I need it. I also really want a pair of Hunters and totally get why you wanted to grab them while they were on sale. They're good boots. I haven't read any of the books you got (except part of Fangirl, which wasn't for me). Looking forward to your reviews!

  31. Gaaaah! You got hunters!!!! Woooooo!!!!!!!!! $80 is a great deal! Score! I want some. And I want to get some for Remington because come on, they are just too cute on little ones. :) have no fear, your not the only one that has a hard time with shopping. I try soooo hard. But it's soooo hard. I've been doing better with not buying things for myself but when it comes to baby stuff. I fail. Oops.

  32. I really want a pair of Hunters too! I heard they were on sale at Costco but couldn't see the price because I'm not a member. Boo! Did you get black?! I think I would be rich if I didn't waste money on stupid stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  33. If shopping is your addiction I'm going to be glued to that tv show. I love seeing what people buy and the deals they get. $80 Hunters is a steal to me and I would have bought them too. They NEVER go on sale! Go you. I've carted and closed the BBW candles all week. They're having a 2 for $24 sale right now and it's driving me crazy. I WANT CANDLES!!! But like you said, Black Friday/ cyber Monday. Plus, apparently I'm not to old to overdraw because I did it this week... Bad.

  34. oh lord. I feel you on the shopping thing. And the wanting to be able to buy things you *really* want instead of a whole bunch of so-so things. Alas, my Amazon cart is full and waiting for my paycheck Friday. Ugh. (Also, my etsy cart - same - only all stickers for my planner. OUT. OF. CON. TROL.)
But - totally need the Hunter's too. I just started hunting with Mr. Coffee so um, I need them. I do. I took steel toe boots and have a bruise on the top of my foot from all the walking we did and the steel hitting my foot. Not. Cool.
And. Good book choices! What Alice Forgot is my favorite out of those! It was really good!
