Summer Lovin'

Kari tagged me in her Cruel Summer Tag and I thought it was fun so, why not? Especially because, you know.. Summer is almost over.

1. What's the hottest temperature it's ever reached where you live?

Well, apparently the hottest it ever got in Sydney was 45.8 Celsius (114.4 Fahrenheit) but I was in KY at the time. It was also apparently 47.8 / 118 in 1939 but I wasn't alive for that. As for Louisville, apparently the hottest was 102 in 1952. I honestly couldn't tell you the hottest it's been since I moved here, I don't think it gets over 100 that often but I could be wrong.

2. Speaking of hot, how do you cool off in the summer heat?

I don't! A lot of people I know say they hate summer because they can't cool off, but in winter they can warm up. I'm the opposite. I can't warm up in winter, no matter how many blankets I pile on. I love being hot. There is no such thing as being too hot for me. I love to sweat, I love to feel the sun burning down on me.

3. Summer is one of the best times to read. Give us a summer book recommendation!

I wrote a whole post about summer book reads! The best books I have read this summer are: A Little Something Different, The Royal We, Big Little Lies and Still Alice.

4. What's your favorite thing about the summer where you live?

...... I am the worst about doing things in Louisville regardless of season, so lets pretend I still live in Sydney. My favourite thing would be the beach. Always the beach.

5. What's the #1 thing on your summer bucket list?

Find a way to have an eternal summer and make sure winter never returns. Any advice?

6. You're going on a girl's trip this weekend and you've rented a drop-top convertible. What's the first song you blast?

Man, I feel like a woman, naturally.

7. Summer is for glowing! What product do you use to get your bronze goddess on?

My favourite bronzer is this Rimmel stuff. I've used it for years and my mum has too. Plus it's like $5.

8. What about lip products? Are you a lipstick, lipgloss or bar lips kind of girl?

I used to love to try lip stuff, but now I am set on using Milani Nude Creme for the rest of my life. There is never a situation where it isn't the perfect choice. It's like $5 at walgreens but apparently it's only $3 at walmart so clearly I'm going to walmart this evening. Sorry for the selfie, but it's the best photo I have of me wearing it - I love how nude it is without looking like concealer, I feel like it brings out the pink in my lips. I am pretty much always wearing it.

9. How about nail polish? What nail polish can you not get enough of during the summer?

Nope. Not a nail polish girl. I do love pastels on other people though!

10. This or that?
 -- Bonfire or swimming? Swimming.
 -- Pool or beach? Beach.
-- Icecream or popsicles? Ice cream.
-- Bikini or a one piece? Bikini.
-- Sporting event or music festival? Sporting event.
 -- Maxis or sundresses? Maxi.

11. Dream summer vacation on me! Where are you going?

Sydney! Greece! All the places.

12. Got any summer traditions?

No. Sigh. But, again with the pretending, when I used to live at home, mum and I would always carve out a weekend to drive to Woolongong. We'd sing along to oldies on the way there, we'd spend a few hours at the beach, stop and get fish & chips on the way home, struggle to stay awake and then have a nap when we got home. Fabulous day.

Do you have any summer traditions? I want to start some. Maybe next year.

  1. I love summer too! Probably why I still live in Florida, it's summer most of the year haha! And love that nude lip color on you, so perfect! I'm obsessed with that Rimmel bronzer too. You can't beat the price!

  2. Oh goodness we are polar opposites! I adore the winter months and CANNOT stand to be hot. I am one giant sweaty, greasy mess in the summers!

  3. The rimmel bronzer is one of my favorites too. Loving that lip color! Give me all the reading in the summer and parking my butt on a beach though I haven't been to the beach near enough this year.

  4. ALL THE PLACES! Haha I wish! And perfect choice on the girls trip song! :D I wouldn't say I have any summer traditions, except maybe going to a baseball game at least once.....and goodness ice cream dates every weekend, does that count?

  5. So many things to comment on! I am literally the same about heat, my husband is polar opposite though but I am one that truly enjoys the 100 degree room at hot yoga. That bronzer is my absolute fav! And YES to your song, gotta love a crossroads reference!

  6. oh, greece.....definitely on my bucket list. i love polish as well but i can never keep it on so i can't be bothered.

  7. Selfie game on point up there!!! The hottest temps made me curious so I of course had to google my own. 106F where I live now and 104F where I grew up, but with humidity it probably felt like 150F, slight exaggeration.

  8. I am TOTALLY doing this too, love me some Summer and that selfie pic of you is so cute and the perfect way to show off the lipstick!! They're having a Sydney author event in Aug 2016 and Australia IS on my someday list so to go there AND see some of my fav authors would be awesome!! Also, Crossroads - LOVE that movie!!

  9. I can't even imagine 114 degree heat! Just barely three digit heat in Texas is enough to make me miserable! And I totally agree, Santorini would probably be the perfect place to visit over the summer!

  10. I love the nude gloss! That is beautiful on you! Also you got a love bronzers that are on the cheap! afraid I have to disagree with you on summer though however if you want to take all of the summer I will take all of the winter and then we will be even!

  11. Oh how I love summer! I'm like you where I'd much rather be hot than cold, hence why I moved to Florida. I love going for a swim (almost any time of year - it definitely still gets chilly here) and days at the beach. And I still need to read "The Royal We" - adding to my kindle now :-D

    ReplyDelete
  12. Yay for summer surveys! They're always so fun to read. I actually picked up that lipstick thanks to your suggestion! Can't wait to try it out :)

  13. What's that you say? You want eternal summer? Move to Dallas! It's still well over 100+ here! And it's warming up through the weekend. And and and, it's been well warmer than 114! So I think it's a perfect fit for you! PLUS, all the schools are hiring so KC can easily find a job (and teacher's salaries START at near $50k yr). So. Let me know when you're on your way, mmmmk?

  14. I have inherited some summer traditions with D's family now. All of D's extended family have big get-togethers at his grandparents' pool for all of the summer holidays (Memorial Day, July 4th, & Labor Day). It's fun!

I personally hate summer! I hear Southerners say all of the "you get used to the heat/humidity." No you really don't. I am a born and bred Southerner and I have never gotten used to the heat/humidity. Give me winter all year. I have always seriously considered moving to Alaska. :)

    ReplyDelete
  15. I'm all about the eternal summer too. I don't mind Spring and Fall, but Winter sucks. I'll take the heat anyway. My favorite summertime tradition is pretty simple - it's just going to the beach and spending the day laying around with friends.

xo, Carly - soak and simmer

  16. Still Alice is on my LL list. I can't to read it since I loved "Inside the O'Briens" so much. Summer traditions for us are fruit picking and going to the county fair. Oh, and the beach at some point.

  17. Yes to the $5 Rimmel bronzer and Crossroads GIF!

  18. I'm right there with you. Summer and warm weather all the way, please and thank you. I love the feeling of the sun warming your BONES! That never ever ever ever can happen in the winter and it is the WORST. We've been told Houston doesn't get much colder than 50's for winter and I am so excited!!

Although that is still plenty too cold for me...

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yayyy for liking to be hot, me too! I hate being cold in the winter, it's so miserable.

As for an endless summer, I plan on moving to a Caribbean island one day. That should work!

    ReplyDelete
  20. I'm the complete opposite of you. I'm always hot and hate to sweat. haha. I love the winter but then again I'm a December baby and live in New England, so it's in my bones. I'm loving that lip color, I love nude lipsticks. I'm totally going to run to Walmart tomorrow and get some.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I am the same way, I can never warm up so I like being hot too! I run a space heater at work all year because in the summer the AC is on too low and in the winter the heat is in too low so I am always frozen no matter what time of year it is! lol!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I'm glad I'm not the only one who prefers summer to winter!! I loveeee summer. So sad it's ending!! It was 108 here in Texas last year...that was maybe a bit much. 😂

    ReplyDelete
  23. As much as I've been complaining about the heat this summer, it's really just the humidity and it's only because I'm in marathon training and I have to be out running for hours at a time. I like being warm, I hate having to wear a coat. But I also don't like sweating the second I step out the door or feeling my makeup melt off my face. That's the humidity though. And no matter what, I will always prefer summer to winter. I'm like you, I can't get warm either once I get cold. From like November to March I'm just cold all the damn time. And in winter there's snow and that's just not cute past the first snowfall of Christmas. Anyway. That lip color is gorgeous on you and I want us to go to the beach together so come to NJ next summer k?

  24. I can never get warm in winter either. I love summer! I can't wait to read The Royal We!

  25. Ugh I hate the heat. You should move down here to Alabama where it is ridiculously hot 8 out of the 12 months. I dont mind a few months of it but I am so tired of walking outside and not being able to breathe because the heat and humidity literally choke me. I still need to read all those books you mentioned and I had no clue that Walmart sold Milani?? The only place I have seen it is CVS.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I love, love summer! Winter, even though I'm in Houston and it only gets about 30 degrees, I still feel like it's -30F. I'm going skiing in December and I'm already nervous that I'm going to freeeeze!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I love being hot too except when I'm trying to a) sleep or b) Trying to look good! I do hate how 'melty' one can look after about 5 minutes in the sun, lol. But for like a saturday morning walk in the heat with some sweat- all grand. I do love summer but I get ready for its end at the appropriate time.

And I want to go to Greeeeece.

    ReplyDelete
  28. If you could find a way to make it where winter stays away, I'll help you make it work :)

    ReplyDelete
  29. You can always live half the year in KY and half in Australia. That could make it an endless summer. You'd be all confused and it's probably not practical at all but why not dream?

I'm over the hot weather but I do love the beach.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I don't really have any summer traditions either. I think work consumes all of my time. Can you believe I live about 15 minutes away from the beach and haven't gone in at least 5 years?! Oh and I love being hot too. I will never complain about the heat in the summer.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I hate being hot. I get sunstroke really easily. If you find a way to get eternal summer, could you make it so I get to switch between spring and autumn for most of the year so it never gets toooo hot (or too cold!).

    ReplyDelete
  32. I have heard so many people talk about that Milani lipstick, but I have yet to own it. Pretty sure that needs to change. Also, thank goodness someone still appreciates that scene from Crossroads with the girls singing Shania Twain. It's basically my spirit animal as far as movie scenes go. I have quite a few of your book recommendations on hold at the library right now! :)

    ReplyDelete
  33. I just picked up The Royal We from the library and I can't wait to read it! Being from cold places I really enjoy the heat, so that southern humidity is right up my alley. Summer is seriously the best season, and I'm a bit sad that it's coming to an end once again, and I haven't even made it to the beach this summer :(

    ReplyDelete
  34. This Summer felt like a complete blur it went by way too fast! I have a feeling when I'm outside in the heat watching Gator football I will be wishing for Summer to be over ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  35. I enjoyed the post even though I'm not a summer person and this year I feel it was a hot hot hot summer in Greece! Autumn is for sure my favourite season and I can't wait for colder days to come! The photo of Greece is probably from Santorini (?) which is a place I want so bad to visit someday :) maybe next summer :)

  36. I feel like I didn't get to do a lot of our summer traditions this summer - so far my traditions are mainly with my parents but I'm excited to start some with my fiancee. Things like going to the beach, or visiting Saratoga, New York or Maine are all wonderful traditions that I miss with my family! - Svetlana @Life with a Side of Wine

  37. I love the Summer, too! In the Winter I just cant get warm enough. We should somewhere that is warm year round! I consider it every year during the cold months.

    ReplyDelete
  38. LOVE that lip color on you! SO pretty! I am pretty much obsessed with neutrals right now. I don't really have any Summer traditions that I can think of, other than fireworks at the beach for the 4th. I feel like I really slacked on doing Summery things this year.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Haha, I want to go to ALL the places too, but Greece is top of my list! We were supposed to go last time we were in Europe, but there were really bad riots so we changed it to more time in Italy. Love that lip color on you!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Aw this is so fun! Love reading more about ya but girl ughh I hate heat and just thinking about 114 degrees makes me want to go sit in my freezer! Whew!

    ReplyDelete
  41. I'm with you- all the places!! also love your summer books. and 100 degrees- now I'm ready for fall.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I'm so with you on never being able to get warm in the winter! I am so not a fan of the freezing cold months! And I definitely agree with wanting to travel to all the places! We are shooting for Greece next year! :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. Oh gosh in the summer i hate being hot, but I dont mind being cold in the winter because I can always bundle up!! That selfie of you is gorgeous, but funny that you said you don't like nail polish because you're wearing a great color in the picture :) xo, Biana -BlovedBoston

    ReplyDelete
  44. As much as I love Summer, I am so ready for Fall! I don't think I could handle heat over 100! I am currently reading the Royal We! Such a cute book! Also somehow I never realized you lived in Louisville. I was there over New Years and it was SO cold.. was not expecting that!

    ReplyDelete
  45. I love being hot too! I will never, ever complain about it! My husband thinks I am crazy because when it's 100 degrees outside I go sit on the balcony!

    ReplyDelete
  46. 114 F?! Oh HELL no!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CRIKEY! (Australian word/accent. A bad one. Is that even an "Aussie" term?? lol)
I didn't know Rimmel had a bronzer... I need to start paying more attention to shit. I use their Stay Matte finishing powder and I absolutely LOVE it. Does the bronzer have a sparkle in it at all?
LOVE that shade of lipstick. It looks awesome on you! Totally know what you mean about the "concealer" look. Blech!

    ReplyDelete
  47. 114 is just way too hot. That's like Vegas weather everyday though. Actually, maybe I'm exaggerating, but I grew in Los Angeles and it wasn't as bad as it is here. I've been reading alot of blogs about how they're sad that summer is coming to an end, but then others are quite excited for it... I mean, I guess think about it... the holidays will be coming up!

  48. Haha I used to watch Crossroads obsessively!

  53. Why did you apologize for the selfie?! It's a perfect reflection of why that lipstick looks good on you. I did giggle when the very next question you answered that you're not a nail polish girl, but you have nail polish on in the selfie - ha! I read Still Alice and Big Little Lies, but as you know it's winter here. So, I'm a rebel. I read your summer reads in winter.

    ReplyDelete
  54. don't ever apologize for a selfie! you look gorgeous! i wish i had half of your beauty!! and i thought i commented on this post--i told you already i LOVE that lipstick. you need to visit south georgia, where i am originally from. it's over 100 pretty much every dang day in the summer.

  55. AHHH GO TO GREECE! it's the most beautiful place i've ever visited and surprisingly once you get there really cheap! xo jillian - cornflake dreams

  56. I LOVED Still Alice! Did you know it's being made into a movie?! Or maybe it's already out... I'm way behind the times! ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  57. Girl, you are crazy ... I can't STAND being hot! Haha.

As you know, I also loved Big Little Lies. It's one of the best books I've read so far this year.

Sometimes when I read about beauty products, I feel like I'm not really "girly" enough. I've never tried bronzer, I never wear anything on my lips (other than chapstick, of course), and I haven't had a manicure since my wedding in 2013. (I do get pedicures pretty regularly, though!) I'm honestly kind of scared of bronzer since I'm so pale, and I refuse to wear lipstick/lip gloss because I have two really prominent facial features: my eyes and my lips. If I accentuate them both, I look crazy (trust me, I've tried it). Haha.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I love summer too but really wish I had a job that I could actually enjoy it. Maybe I should have been a teacher?

    ReplyDelete
  59. Summer is always cruel for me, but I am totally down with blasting music with the top down, eating ice cream, and heading to Santorini. I will say, I'm all about the bonfires, tho.
