KC's birthday is coming up, so my mum sent him some Australian t-shirts. I got the package last week and there was no food for me like wtf mum? I was pissed. What kind of mother of an expat does that? Just kidding mum love you bunches but next time send me food.
I was seriously about to order food from some sketchy website when I got another surprise in the post.
I recognised our post symbol immediately. I thought yay, mum surprised me!
Nope. But someone did. Erin. Erin, my new bestie. Erin who understands my expat troubles.
I might have squealed when I saw it. Erin and I have chatted about care packages before, and I might have started one for her, but because she went home (semi) recently, I wanted to wait until she was really missing home (that sounds horrible, doesn't it?) and my care package would make her as happy as hers made mine. She's right, there needs to be more care packages in the world!
Wanna see what I got? Of course you do.
First off, a copy of this book I've never heard of.
Then this absolutely adorable water bottle. I guess it's a bit obvious I have a thing for cats?
These super cool glasses I am totally going to rock
Now, for the most important part. THE FOOD.
Anzac bikkies. Biscuits. Not like your biscuits. I might have to save these for April next year but I don't think they will last that long.
WAGON WHEELS. So I know you all have a song and all, and while I now know that song and sing along, before I moved to the US the only Wagon Wheel I knew were these pretty little babies. Chocolate, marshmallow and jam. YUM. GET IN MY BELLEH. ps. these are also what we call biscuits.
MINTIES. Y'all. I hate mint. yuck yuck yuck. I don't like anything mint flavoured and I only chew gum for like 1 minute and then throw it out once it's done it's job. But minties? Minties are a must and for some reason I LOVE them. Minties are, well, mint, but they are hard as a rock and can take a tooth with them if you're not careful. But they are fabulous.
ALLEN'S LOLLIES. I'm sorry for all the caps but Allen's are my favourite lollies (candy) of all time. I tried very hard not to eat all of these within 2 hours of receiving the care package, I cannot say whether I was successful or not.
Two of my favourite things are pineapples and race cars. They stopped making the race cars for a large chunk of my adolescence but they brought them back when I was older. My boss asked for one of my lollies and she wanted to try the pineapple. She asked what it tasted like and I was like 'I don't know, it tastes like a pineapple but not pineapple it just tastes like an Allen's pineapple'. It's hard to explain. She had one, screwed her nose up and said 'that doesn't taste like a pineapple' and I had one and said 'tastes like my childhood'.
The funny thing is, if I lived at home, it's not like I would be eating these things every day or even every week. But when you can't get things that used to be everywhere and used to be so accessible to you.. It's hard. It's stupid, but it's still hard. Erin understands and she sends me this massive (expensive!) care package and I honestly couldn't be happier or thankful if I tried.
Thank you Erin. You are amazing.
Speaking of amazing, blogging is amazing. In my opinion. I might never be a big blogger and I am totally okay with that, because as cliche as it sounds, this community is the bomb and I am happy and thankful to be in it, surrounded by all you awesome ladies.
That's all. Thanks for letting me yabber on as usual! Hope you have a fabulous Monday.
