One of the days we were in Paris was a dedicated Versailles day. We did a bike tour with Fat Tire Bike Tours and I cannot recommend them highly enough. They are not paying me (obviously) and they have no idea who I am, but seriously. Highly recommend. Our tour guide was Mark (from Ireland) who was super friendly, polite, patient and informative. The tour was fun and I learned a lot, and got a good workout - seriously, it's not for the faint of heart. You ride on a few roads and up (and down) some hills and over tree roots and stuff. It was fun and KC and I were fine, but there were definitely people in our group that weren't having the best time, bike wise.
Versailles is absolutely beautiful. Full of history. I think it deserves a full day so that you can see the gardens and other buildings, which were my favourite part.
I'm just going to go ahead and let the pictures do the talking - there is a ton of information on the interwebs about Versailles if you are interested, I couldn't do it justice. Versailles was probably the best part of the trip for me, I have no idea why, I just absolutely loved it and had been looking forward to it for ages. I highly, highly, highly recommend a visit.
Most people think of the Chateau when they think of Versailles, which is totally fine, but I was not a huge fan. It was so crowded and you can hardly see anything, kind of like The Vatican. It's definitely worth it, but if you are going and you have the time I highly recommend you include the gardens and grounds. They are the true stars and deserve the majority of your time. So many people just go to the Chateau, so the grounds are fairly empty. Of course, I recommend Fat Tire Bike Tours because I am 100% convinced it wouldn't have been the same if we'd done it on our own, our guide (Mark) was fabulous.
Have you been to Versailles, or is it on your list?
