Recent Favourites

I know it's the Friday before July 4th and most of everyone will be off (including me!) but I felt like sharing a few recent favourites with Amanda, random and from our trip - recaps coming, hold on to your hats.

Favourite blog post(s)

This post from Kathy. Seriously. Life is too short for all the shit we might worry about. I'm not going to go into it, but being surrounded by awesome people in blogland (including Kathy) has helped me in other areas of my life, from dropping toxic people, not hating on myself to living more in the now, and I can say am 100% happier for it. If you need to be happy, go read that post.

Absolutely adored this post from Alyssa about how people do or don't change - seriously, highly recommend you pop on over and read it right now, you don't even need to keep reading this post, that one is better.

While you're at it. Check out this post from Tracy to all the small bloggers. I loved it, you will too. Off you pop.

Favourite meal in Europe

Hands down, the food was the best in Rome. Ahhhhmmmazing. Never had a bad meal. Okay, we didn't have a bad meal during the whole trip (not including airport / plane food) but still. Rome trumped it all. The absolute best meal was this mushroom pasta from L'Isola della Pizza (close to the Vatican). I was hesitant, I like to stay with things I know I'll like (like just plain tomato sauce or alfredo) but I went out on a still-boring-limb and I swear.. you know those meals that you want to moan really inappropriately because of how awesome it is? Yep.

Favourite guy

Okay, let me wax corny and vomity for a second. I mentioned that KC isn't a huge traveller - he doesn't like to plan (or pay for) travel but he enjoys it when we are actually there. He was a great sport the entire trip, sitting outside many a store while I combed the sales racks, taking a million photos each time I got a gelato, always sat in the middle so I could have the window, never complained at all, smile on his face the whole time.. most importantly though, he carried my bag even though I was perfectly capable, just lazy.

Favourite purchase

I bought a few things, a couple clothing items and such.. but my favourite purchase was a chocolate bar. When we arrived in Dublin, we popped into a little cafe type store to grab some breakfast on the go and I spotted some chocolate bars that we have at home, I was so excited I squealed. Not joking, ask KC. He was so embarrassed, so naturally I had to get them. I got a crunchie (remember?) and a curly wurly. Mum would always buy us curly wurlys when we were little because they were the cheapest and we were a bit poor. The next day we popped into a grocery store where I picked up 3 packs of 5 to take home. So I had 15 when I arrived home. They lasted less than 24 hours. No shame.

This is a super old picture but it's better than the picture I attempted. Just trust me, it's amazing. I'd lend you one, but.... I ate them all.
Least favourite moment

I know I've talked about it before, so I'll try and keep it short and sweet. I'm not good at flying. Even though I researched and I felt prepared, when we went through the first bump of turbulence - instant tears. Such a big baby. I don't know if I am continuously getting worse or if the pilots are being dicks and making it worse with every flight. But our main flight back to the US was perfect and smooth until the last 2 and a half hours, where it was so bumpy shit was flying everywhere and the flight attendants had to sit down. Not happy, Jan. But I'm safe and sound, probably was never in any real danger.

FAVOURITE BEST NEWS EVER

If you've been following for a really long time, you might remember (or not) that I met Matt Smith & Karen Gillan last year at the Louisville Comic Con. You also might not care, but I do, so hush. It was amazing and perfect for a Whovian like myself. It would have been a dream come true if it were David Tennant and Billie Piper though.....

Well, this year my dreams are half coming true - Billie Piper will be at the Louisville Fandom Fest! I know most of you don't care, but humour me. This was me when Megan's husband told me:

LOVE HER. We shall be besties. Just wait.

Anywho. Happy 4th of July, have a good weekend everyone!

I cut toxic people out of my life. I don't forgive easily. I made that mistake in the past. I am not anyone's tool or doormat anymore.

  14. So excited for you to be meeting people you love from a TV show! I don't know who any of them are...but I'm all about being a fan girl! That's awesome you found that candy in Ireland. KC is seriously awesome, love your description of him and that he's so fabulous to you!

  16. Ohhhhh, the food... Pregnant Paige should go to Europe just so I can pig out. That's be amazing. Did you shy away from the beef though? The beef is always so disappointing across the pond. And I'm with you on turbulence. I don't cry, but I grip the seat with white knuckles and try with all my might to slow down my heart rate from 180 beats per minute! So scary. And I do think it's getting worse, our flight back from Miami in Jan. was about the most turbulent thing I've ever experienced. We didn't even get drinks the whole 2 hours! Hubs, who flies every single week, even was like, "ummm, k. This sucks."

  18. I adored Kathy's and Alyssa's posts this week (last week?), too. I'm going to check out the other one because small bloggers need love, too, and I've been contemplating writing my love letter to us but I don't want to copy what she did.

So my favorite candy of all time is a Canadian one, almost impossible to get in the US. My husband managed to track some down for my Christmas present and I ate the whole bag in less than a week. Didn't even care.

As for Kathy's post, I haven't visited yet. But, I agree that there are some people in bloggerland that are so positive and offer so much support. I really enjoy some of those relationships.
