How you doin' 2015?

So, hey. We are officially halfway through 2015 now (at noon, anyway). That shit cray. Seriously, it feels like just yesterday that we were all like omg it's 2015. It's basically 2016 now. Ok, maybe not.

I was all about 2015 at the beginning of the year. It was going to be the best year ever! But then life happened and just like everyone else, a grand declaration does not a truth make. Or something. That's not to say it hasn't been absolutely awesome and totally the best year yet.

I wanted to kind of check in. I'm not sure if I am going to do monthly goal posts anymore, I think I'm a bit goal-ed out. But I did want to remind myself of the goals (or facts) I made at the beginning of the year so I don't lose sight of them.

I am going to complete a half marathon in under 2 hours.
Not yet, I'm afraid. I have only run one half marathon this year, and it was definitely not a sub 2. But, there is always the Urban Bourbon in October.

I am going to buy all of my Christmas presents using Swagbucks (aka no out of pocket expense) and will have all purchases done by the end of November.

Actually, probably not. I am still using Swagbucks but I really have been using Ebates more. Either way, I don't mind if I don't buy all my Christmas presents with free money, but I am starting on them very soon so they are well done by the end of November. The important thing is that I spread them out and just get them all done, because it's too stressful otherwise. I spent a lot of money last year and I'd rather spend a lot less this year, please and thank you.

I am going to Europe.
It was awesome. Duh. I'm going to recap the shit out of it, prepare yourselves.

I am going to cross so much off my 30 before 30 list.
Not as much as I would like. I really need to start working on the 'easier' things like getting my moles checked, making a pavlova, sewing something. There are a few things I don't think we'll ever cross off, but I actually don't mind.

I am going to DC with some awesome girls.

Yep. Woohoo. It was awesome.

I am going to 'give' something each month. My time, money or donating to goodwill. Something every month.

I haven't been broadcasting this because it does seem a bit 'look at me, look at me' but isn't all blogging? Anyway. I have been making sure that each month, I am doing something big or small to help someone other than myself.

I am going to be thankful this year. Every month, not just November.

I have been doing a thankful post each month. It might be silly, but it's nice to be reminded that I have lots to be thankful for, big or small.

I am going to live more in the moment - stop planning and focusing on the future so much.
Lol. I don't know why I wrote this one. I like planning and dreaming of the future. But really, I have been trying to focus on the here and now at least 50% of the time, and letting myself dream / plan for a million different futures the other 50% of the time. Considering it used to be like dreaming 90% of the time, I'm doing well.

I am going to read 150 books.

Well, I'm certainly not there yet, but I'm working on it. Tell you what, I won't be doing this one again. I obviously love to read and will probably read this many anyway, but I don't like how I'm constantly looking at if I'm ahead or behind and I probably shouldn't read that book because its 700 pages and then I'll be behind. I annoy myself.

I am going to love every item in my closet and get rid of all the things I don't wear.

You know what. I'm doing really well with this. I'd say before blogging, I really loved about 25% of my closet. I'd say I'm at least at 95% right now. I can think of a few things that I don't completely love, but still. 95% is pretty good.

I am going to make sure every single thing in my house is either beautiful or useful.
Well. We haven't done much for this. We haven't added a bunch of crap, but we haven't gotten rid of a bunch of crap either. I really want to really declutter here soon.

I am going to become a badass chef wannabe and person who sews things.
hahahahahaha. I need to work on this.

I am going to spend time with real friends, not wasting time on the people who let me down in 2013. I'm not mad about it, I'm just over fake friendships.

Absolutely. I have one friend who is just.. not even a friend right now, and I've given up trying to understand her. I also haven't seen any of the fake people at all this year. They pretended to be my friends and then let me down or showed me they didn't really know or like me at all - to them I am just a novelty, the foreigner and I was sick of it. I wasn't mad I just didn't want to waste my energy on them anymore. I am zero percent ashamed that I don't have a lot of friends, I'd rather have good ones - even if it's just two or three! - than a bunch of fake people I don't like. Plus, I have you guys.

I am going to take care of myself. I am going to be the healthiest and fittest person I can be not because I want to lose weight but because healthy is where it's at.
I am doing well. This will always be a struggle for me, but I am doing very well with not filling my body with crap (except in Europe because yolo) and exercising as a stress reducer, sleep helper and to make my heart healthy, rather than to see the scale go down.

I am going to love myself. I am going to be positive and nice, I am not going to say negative or mean things that I wouldn't dare say to a stranger, so why say them to myself?

I have definitely noticed that I am nicer to myself. That sounds silly, but really. I don't say or think mean things when I look in the mirror. I don't say loving nice things, but as mum always said - if you don't have something nice to say.. just kidding.

How is your 2015 going?

  1. I seriously cannot even imagine how not good I'm doing on my year goals. I'm like so addicted to making them but sticking with them beyond a few weeks is another story.
Congratulations on doing awesome at yours! It really seems like you'd made progress on most of your goals and when you look back on it as a whole, I get the overwhelming feeling that you really lived life this year. And well that's kinda the point right? :)
    Can't wait for Europe pics!

  2. You're doing great on your 2015 goals! I agree with you 100% on the fake friend thing. I used to always forgive and forget but now I just forgive and move on. It makes life a lot more positive then! And don't worry, I'm a planner too haha!

  3. i love this post - all of it!

as for those fake bitches - laterz! give them a serious drop kick and say sayonara!! life is *way too short* to put up with that kind of bullshit. you don't have to be rude about it but you don't have to be around them either. that's what i realized a while back - i can choose to put myself through that crap (no thanks) or i can choose not to....either way they're still going to talk no matter what choice is made so i made a choice that made ME happy (which is to drop kick them ha!).

ps - i can count the # of friends i have on my hand and that's ok with me!

  4. You are doing so great on your goals this year! I agree 100% I'd rather have a few really good, true friends than a bunch of people that could care less. I love the thankful posts throughout the year, definitely something I want to start doing! Keep rocking 2015 and bring on the Europe posts!!!

  5. Such a great post! You are seriously doing awesome on your goals (and you have a lot of big ones on this list!). It seriously is crazy to think that we're already halfway through 2015...though I have to say, this has definitely been an excellent year for me! :)

  6. What I love about this post is there is really a lot of self reflection and positivity to it. You are doing great on your goals and I know that the rest of 2015 you will continue to rock it and do great. I am really thankful that we found each other's blogs because you really do inspire me with your posts and this is one of those. Thank you!
Also, yes! Just say no to fakes! I am so thankful for the real friendships in my life...that's all I have in my life now and it just makes life so much better!
Can't wait to see how you rock out and finish up the year!

  7. I do both Swagbucks and MintVine now. MintVine is almost the same, but you can cash out to PayPal when you have 1,000 points or $10, instead of waiting until you have $25. I still like using Swagbucks for gift cards, though, and the possibility of getting bucks when I do Internet searches.

  8. You're doing so well! Seriously, good job! I feel like I'm drowning in the sea of activities I've overloaded myself with and I have no idea what my beginning of the year aspirations were. Traveling while paying off credit cards and making good progress on all your mental/physical health goals? Kickass. I am so impressed.

  9. I haven't kicked off as many things from my 2015 list as I would have liked. I need to get on that. I have no idea what Swagbucks is all about :P.

  10. I literally can't believe we're halfway through this year!! What the heck, where is the time going. But you are doing so good with your goals! This was a great reminder that I should go back and review mine... pretty sure the only one I've taken seriously so far is reading more haha

  11. It's crazy how quick this year is going! Looks like you have a bunch of awesome goals on your list! You go girl!

  12. These are such great goals! I especially like the idea of using Ebates to pay for all your presents. I've been trying to save up all my cashback from my credit cards and using it on a big purchase at the end of the year. Definitely going to do the ebates thing as well. Yay for Europe..I also went on a trip this year and it was amazing! Sometimes traveling and exploring takes presidence over stuff like saving...oh well yolo right?

  13. I love the idea of checking-in on your goals instead of doing monthly goal lists - it seems much more motivating that way! You, my friend, are doing so well on all your goals for only being halfway through the year. I'm sure the second half of 2015 will bring you nothing but success!

  14. loved reading how your goals are going! i recently had to cut off a friend who did something so crazy that it will probably be a lifetime movie one day. my year is ok--just tough!

  15. I need to start doing thankful posts. I think they're such great reminders! And good job working on paying off your credit cards!!

    1. Just a heads up - I do a link up every Thursday for Thankful Thursday if you want to join in whenever :) A good reminder to look at the things you're thankful for :)

  16. I've been trying to be the chef & sewing queen for a few YEARS now :)
I don't even want to think about us being half way through the year. That's ridiculous.

  17. This year is flying! You're doing really well with your goals! I don't remember if I set goals for this year or not. Part of me thinks I did...and should look at them. But part of me thinks I already have a 27 by 27 & 101 list going on so maybe I didn't. #GoalFails

  18. I am so, so happy to read about all these wins and checks and passes. You are doing so great! And there's definitely something to be said for letting go of goals/declarations that just don't suit you anymore. Nothing wrong with that. I learned that lesson earlier this year and am definitely happier for it. But anyway I'm especially happy to read that the ones that make your life a little more pleasant, happier, and less stressful or hurtful are getting a good amount of your attention. That's the best news :)

  19. You made some pretty awesome choices for the year! I hope you get to check them all off. I'm with you on SB vs. Ebates. I use SB so sparingly now. It just takes too damn long. Ebates is always there and it's instant gratification. Plus, real money.

  20. You win all the prizes with the Joey and LC gifs! And your year is shaping up to be pretty awesome! As far as ebates, girl look into Southwest Rapid Rewards shopping... it's the same thing but you're going through Southwest first and earning airline points per dollar you spend online. I've racked up countless points through online shopping and have flown for free a few times already ;-)

  21. I love when people check in with their goals and I think you're kicking the shit out of yours. Letting fake, bad friends go is so freeing, isn't it? There isn't enough room in my life for people that make me feel bad or treat me like crap so out the door they go. Not even close to sorry. I also feel like it goes hand in hand with being nicer to yourself. When you don't surround yourself with people who make you feel bad, it's easier to change your internal dialogue and say nice things and be kind to yourself.

  22. I love all of your goals! Especially the closet one. I need to get on board with that one with all of the shopping that I've been doing recently. Can't wait to see if you accomplish most of these by the end of the year!

  23. I cannot wait for your Europe recaps!!!

  24. that 10 things I hate about you gif is making my whole day. even though you haven't done everything you've wanted, you certainly have accomplished an impressive amount of stuff this year and there's still time to work towards the other goals. I should go look at my goals and see how well I'm doing... (gritted teeth emoji face here)

  25. I use Swagbucks a lot, and have just been letting them accumulate. I originally wanted to make a large purchase using them, but now I'm thinking I might cash them out for a plane ticket to visit my family for Christmas.

I cannot wrap my mind around reading 150 books. I love reading, but my goal of 50 is proving difficult for me (though I have to say that I'm doing much better this year than I have in previous years!). I wish I could read that much!

Finally, the loving yourself thing is so important and something I really need to work on myself. I know I'm my own worst critic, but sometimes the things I say to/about myself are really fucking awful. It's so hard sometimes to look at yourself and see the good stuff.

Great job on your goals so far!

  26. I think you are doing really, really, really well. Because, seriously. That's a lot of big goals to tackle in a year. I don't set far as specifically write them out and figure out the steps to take to accomplish them. I know I should. I used to counsel juvenile prisoners. I taught them how to make success plans (basically how to write goals and the steps to make them happen). But, I don't do that for myself. So, let's focus on you! GREAT JOB!

  27. You are doing such a great job. I'm trying to be nicer to myself but it's so hard for me. I'm really really hard on myself. It's such a bad habit. But I'm working on it. Totally over fake friends. I have dropped them and moved on. No one has time for that.

  28. Ha definitely with you on the books one. Even though my challenge is waaaay less ambitious than yours, I am now choosing my books carefully after picking a 22h+ audiobook... Man, that just about sunk me. I hate to pick based on length too, but I know without the challenge I'd be even lazier. But- looks like you're doing really well with your goals so far! And I'm looking forward to the Europe recap posts!

  29. I think it's a good idea to "check in" and see how you are doing half-way though the year. That way you know what you need to improve on. It's something I should do myself!

  30. Can I just say, well done on not including unsupportive and fake people in your life! I got rid of several relationships that didn't exactly bring out the best in me last year, and it has made my life 100% better. We are all so busy, why waste our free time on people who don't make us feel good, don't inspire us, don't bring out the best in us? So not how I want to live my life!

As for the other goals, you are definitely working hard! I had to giggle at the "badass chef-wannabe and person who sews things" because I am a decent cook but I will likely never ever be someone who can sew things! Good luck to you though, you still have six months to get there! xo

  31. You are doing awesome on your goals. I have two really close friends and I would rather have them than 100 other fake friends. You made a good decision. The 150 books totally blows my mind. I don't like putting too much pressure on a number of books per year but my goal is half of yours. You go girl!

  32. great update! i really need to work on the whole LOVE everything in your closet and home thing.. i think i'll start putting clothes that i wear in one section and if i dont wear the rest ill donate them. i have a little collection of things i'd like to donate but i know there's other stuff in the house that i should get rid of (and dont even get me started on gifts for the baby that i'd LOVE to donate but i feel bad about getting rid of...) good luck on the rest of your goals. xo jillian - cornflake dreams

  33. I totally get you on the living in the moment/stop planning thing. I don't think you have to be one or the other, and if you're at about 50/50 that's about as good as it's going to get, I think. I used to waste a lot of time wishing and hoping things would turn out to be one way, so my version of living in the moment is working toward making things happen, if that makes sense. I'll never stop planning or dreaming of the future - that's just who I am. But it doesn't have to be a negative thing (e.g. comparing myself to other people and what I "should" be doing)...I can make it into a positive by being proactive and productive.
Anyway, I think you are off to a great start. Even recognizing that you don't *want* to do some of these things sounds like a success to me. Just shows that you know yourself well enough to know what matters to you.

  34. How does Ebates work? It's a shame, I do a lot of online shopping and I never use it. I should probably try it. Sewing things is cool. I always thought it would be the most awesome skill to have if you were a mom. When I was a kid, I always was secretly a little jealous when other kids' moms could sew their ripped stuff lol.

  35. Im happy that you are taking care of yourself!! And thanks for the gift of Ebates!!

  36. Sounds like you are doing awesome for 2015!! Especially with taking care of yourself and that is the most important!! I've always wanted to sew, I had a sewing machine for years, but it's been so long since I tried it. I'm sure the second half of your 2015, will be just as awesome as your first!!

  37. Aww, I love this recap! I'm so happy you are kinder to yourself now, I'm also working on it. It's all on those baby steps :) Can't wait for your posts about Europe

  38. Being thankful and being kind to yourself are never silly things!

    You're doing great.

  39. You certainly have lots of things going on this year, I like this mid-year recap, such a good idea!! Sounds like you're doing well with most of your goals! I am working on the closet thing right now too, we are having a garage sale and I'm trying really hard to get rid of a significant amount of stuff! Good job on the donating too!!

  40. That 10 Things I Hate About You GIF is why we are friends :D But seriously, you are doing so well!!! I just made an appointment for the derm for next week. Ahhhhh. And I got back on the healthy wagon today after my beach trip. Gotta love that, right? Going up to 95% love for your closet is awesome! I am maybe at 50% right now, if I am being honest. But that is way better than like 5% that I was before haha. There is still half a year left! You got this!!! And thanks for reminding me that I need to start my Christmas shopping. Yikes!

  41. I really want to do a better job buying gifts early this year too, but I suck and always get so excited that I just give people the stuff early! haha But you are doing so well so far and have actually accomplished a lot by the half way mark! I can't believe all the reading you've done, I'm so far from my goal I don't even like to look at it. And just think you have six more months to be even more productive in the things you haven't got to yet. ps. loving that hills gif!

Thank you so much for your comment! I reply to my comments via email, but I can't do that if you are a no-reply blogger.
