I have a few songs that I really like and never get sick of. Some of them are a bit odd, so I thought why not share them? Just like with the guilty movies, I don't actually feel guilty about any of these. I'd feel guilty if I murdered someone, but movies and songs I like? Eh. No shame. I just didn't know what else to title the posts, so roll with it.
True To Your Heart by 98 Degrees & Stevie Wonder
I remember we bought the single for this song and had it on repeat for weeks (yes, just the one song) while we played Mario Kart. It's from the Mulan soundtrack and every time I hear it (which is a lot) I think of Mario Kart and vice versa. It's a fun song.
Side note: because we use celcius, I never clicked with the whole 98 degrees thing. One day I asked KC about the normal body temp and he said 98 degrees and I was like 'ohhhh'. I have no cultural excuse to why I didn't get N*Sync for several years though.
Another side note: you should watch the video. It's awful.
You Don't Own Me by Bette Midler, Goldie Hawn & Diane Keaton
I've talked about my love for The First Wives Club before, but seriously. I could listen to this version over and over and over and over.. and over. I actually just really, really, really, really love Bette Midler. I would totally see her live.
Why Should I Worry by Billy Joel
I guess you could just put every Disney song on here because apparently I'm a child. Who doesn't like Billy Joel? Who doesn't like a Billy Joel as a singing dog? I love Oliver & Company. My favourite lyrics are: Everything goes, Everything Fits. They love me at the Chelsea, they adore me at the Ritz!
All I Want for Christmas
All. year. round. I also really, really, really love the Baby Please Come Home one as well.
C’est La Vie by B*Witched
I also really love Hold On by the same group. They are both totally on my running playlist. When I listen to music when I run, that is.
Doctor Jones by Aqua
In year 5, we had to name our tables (there was like 5 of us on a table). There was a boy I really liked (as much as a 10 year old can like a boy) and his name was Brogan what kind of name is that and he really liked the band Aqua so all our names were Aquarium, Aquarius (me!) and I don't remember the others but they were all Aqua related. Completely unrelated to this story, I love Doctor Jones, Doctor Jones, calling Doctor Jones get up now, wake up now..
I Know Why the Dog Howls at the Moon by I have no idea I could look it up but eh
This is from George of the Jungle. Which I love. A lot. It's the dancing scene, I couldn't find a gif of it so here's this one instead. I didn't search very hard though.
Wake Me Up Before You Go Go
Oh did I used to annoy my mum with this song. You know at the start how they say Jitterbug? I would seriously replay it over and over and over until she'd had enough. And then some more.
I'm Henry the 8th by Herman's Hermits
You don't want to be in a car with me when this comes on because I can't not sing along. Loud.
My mum and I (and her friends) saw Herman's Hermits several years ago - okay technically the only original member was the drummer, but I care not.
Footloose by Kenny Loggins.
This is my jam okay? Seriously. My favourite dancing song. You don't even know.
Anything by Cher.
I feel the same way about Cher as I do Bette. We're all on first names here. Anywho. Neither of them can do wrong in my eyes. Nope, not even that outfit.
One Week by Barenaked Ladies.
I have listened to this like once a week for like the last 10 years and I still don't know all the words. I just looked up how old this song is. I was still in primary school. I feel old.
Most things by Hilary Duff
Yep. Whatever. She's cool. If you don't like her, you're So Yesterday. See what I did there? Why Not was a fave and still is.
Most things by Elvis, but especially the Viva Las Vegas songs.
My mum loves Elvis so I listened to his music a lot growing up. Have you ever seen Viva Las Vegas? I should have put that on my guilty pleasure movie list. It's pretty awesome / awful. I love the soundtrack though. A little too much. Because Ann Margaret.
First by Lindsay Lohan.
Ok this might be the only one on the list I am slightly ashamed of. Actually, nope that was just indigestion. It's gone now.
I could probably go on all day. But I won't. So I don't actually feel guilty over any of these songs, but now you know just how un-cool I am. Do you like any of the songs I do?
i can't believe how many of these i've not heard of!! shame on me! my youngest sis played a lot of hilary duff, hannah montana, and lindsay lohan, so when those songs pop up, i still remember the words!
ReplyDeleteHahaha love all of these! I haven't heard Most Things but now I want to listen to Hilary Duff when I get to work!
ReplyDelete<3, Pamela
Sequins & Sea Breezes
OMG the outfits from the 98 degrees video. I can't believe we thought that was cool. I will always All I Want for Christmas. Wham had so many hits and those neon colors. Too funny.
ReplyDeletei loooove stevie wonder and billy joel :) footloose was always the song my friends and i danced like crazy ppl at the bars to in college.... ohhh memories! xo jillian - cornflake dreams
ReplyDeleteI can't say I trust ANYONE who doesn't get jazzed listing to "Wake Me Up Before you Go Go" I MEAN COME ON, people!
ReplyDeleteLOL I loved Hillary Duff. This is a good list. Thanks for the flashback!
ReplyDeleteLOVE Hilary Duff! We were obsessed with Come Clean in high school because it was the theme to Laguna Beach, and I'm totally still in love!
ReplyDeleteum WHAM FOR LIFE. i love wham!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love C'est la vie, haha...I used to listen to it all day long (in about grade 8?). I like One week by the Barenaked Ladies too! Such an awesome Canadian band ;)
ReplyDeleteA few of my "guilty pleasure songs" are Stop by the Spice Girls, Your Love by The Outfield, Don't Stop Believing by Journey (not sure if that counts though - it's pretty popular ;)) and a few local Nova Scotia songs that most people would make of me for enjoying as much as I do :)
I love most of these songs too... but True To Your Heart will always hold a special place in my heart. It is such a JAM.

Midwest Darling
Bahha the So Yesterday pun had me rolling. I LOVED So Yesterday! Also, if someone doesn't love Disney songs, they are a terrorist, period.
ReplyDeleteBilly Joel and Wham yes please!
ReplyDeleteAlso I don't know if they have "Bob" or "Tom" radio stations where you are but your post reminds me of one of those types of radio stations. Their motto is always we play anything.
LOL! I second Wham's Wake Me Up Before You Go Go. It's been a guilty pleasure song of mine for 25 years or so. It's such an infectious little groove.
ReplyDelete"What is it with chicks and horses, anyway?" Hahaha, I love George of the Jungle! I haven't seen Oliver & Company in forever. I should watch it - it's one of the few Disney movies that I don't have all the quotes memorized!
ReplyDeleteWe would have the BESTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT dance party together because every song [minus One Week, totally got overdosed on it] is a pleasure of mine too! I love jamming to Oliver and Company, such a fun song and I really *shamefully* like the LILO 'Rumors' song, how sad right?
ReplyDeleteI agree with a lot of these! Oh 98* I loved them! I was supposed to see them in concert - my mom had bought the tickets and everything and they cancelled the show. It was a heartbreaking moment.
ReplyDeleteAlso, true story I saw Barnaked Ladies in concert and they mooned us from the stage...I was in like 8th grade with that happened.
And yes I agree I no love Hilary Duff!
Haha, I love this! I haven't heard or thought of most of these songs in a looong time. My guilty pleasure music is normally going back to my old teenybopper loves - Nsync and Britney.
ReplyDeleteSo many good ones but You don't own me from first wives club - UGH I just love that movie! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston
ReplyDeleteThanks.. now I'm going to be singing All I Want for Christmas allll day! Not that that's a bad thing because I love that song!
ReplyDeleteWhy Not by HIlary Duff ... Yes! I had the soundtrack to that movie and listened to it all. the. time.
ReplyDeleteThat Elvis GIF is giving me a seizure :) haha
ReplyDeleteI haven't ever heard of B*Witched - I gotta head to YouTube right now.
George Michaels in the WHAM Days! YES! :)
I learned a Jazzercise song to the Mulan song - every time I hear it, I can still do the whole routine :)
I freaking love WHAM - not just that song, lol - and most of the Footloose soundtrack.
ReplyDeleteThat is my favorite Christmas song! Always & forever! So many good songs haha.
ReplyDeleteI owned the B*Witched CD. Shamefully.
ReplyDeleteI liked 98degrees but not I loved N'sync. The letters came from the last letters of the first names of the 5 members. I knew everything about them. Sigh.
Ahhhhh 98 degrees!! Yes!!! And that is one of my top favorite Christmas songs ever. And I love C’est La Vie and One Week too!!! And that version that is on First Wives Club is just awesome. So awesome.
ReplyDeleteSome of my favorite guilty pleasure songs include When the Lights Go Out by Five, Push It by Salt n Peppa, Boyfriend by the beibs, Wait For You by Elliot Yamin and Tik Tok by Kesha.
You have great taste in guilty pleasure songs. Sometimes Why Should I Worry pops into my head out of nowhere, and I'll probably be singing it all day today!
ReplyDeleteit took me a while to comment on this because i had to listen to all the songs, of course. I love all of these. guilty pleasure or not- they are jams! haha i love this.
ReplyDeleteoh man I cant wait til I have kids just so I can make them watch all these all so bad/so good old movies and songs. I forgot stevie wonder was in that 98 degrees song!
ReplyDeleteomg the first 3! lol perfect! I love those songs!! First Wives Club is such a fun movie to watch, I never tire of it. Love the gifs alongside this.
ReplyDeleteHaha this is great! You definitely have some good ones on here!
ReplyDeleteHaha I forgot most of these songs existed. Some I don't know. I am all over the Billy Joel though, Oliver and Company is hands down my favorite animated Disney movie.
ReplyDeleteI'll admit to not knowing a lot of these, but plenty of the same ones would be on my list. In fact I have "Come Clean" by Hillz on one of my playlists right now. And so much love for Disney and all things Billy Joel. Also, whenever I hear that Henry VIII song I think of that scene with Patrick Swayze (aka the first love of my life) in the movie Ghost. Have you seen it? https://youtu.be/pZxIAN6don4
ReplyDeleteIve always loved that "You don't own me song" from the First Wives club. They always crack me up!
ReplyDeleteOh, B*Witched, I totally remember this....haha
ReplyDeleteThese are great guilty pleasure songs! I'm also guilty of enjoying pretty much all of Cher's songs. Whenever they come on I can't help but sing along.
ReplyDeleteOMGeeee I had totally forgotten about True to Your Heart but I LOVED that song! And YES to Why Should I Worry, so good! Mariah's All I Want is totally my Christmas jam, I have to listen to it every year! So many great songs on this list!
ReplyDeleteYassssssssss I havent heard these songs forever!! Totally need to make a good throw back playlist!
ReplyDelete<3 Shannon
Upbeat Soles
Oh how I miss 98 Degrees! And better yet Nick and Jessica together *sigh*. And YES to Mariah Carey.. All I Want for Christmas and all her old school stuff (pre-2000's). Those were my jam!
ReplyDeleteOoooh I remember singing along to a lot of these songs like C’est La Vie, Doctor Jones oh and my all time guilty pleasure song would have to be Barbie Girl. Hahahahaha
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh I remember that lindsay lohan video! lol! and now I am pretty sure I'm going to have "true to your heart" stuck in my head for the rest of the day!
ReplyDeletealso, I love hilary duff! loved her as a kid and I still do now. have you heard her new song "Sparks" - I really like it!
Jessica

Doctor Jones! I can't even explain the excitement I had about that song because it has my last name in it. I might have pretended they were singing specifically to me even though I'm no doctor lol And Footloose is also one of my favourites. I play that one regularly when I'm at home and feel like having a dance party by myself!
ReplyDeleteSooo funny, I remember being with my cousin and him buying that Barenaked Ladies CD and now I feel old too, haha. And looooved b*witched!
ReplyDeleteI am so with you on Cher. She played a venue near my house last summer and I was so sad that my newborn baby took precedent an I missed it.
ReplyDeleteHave you been snooping in my music library? Too weirdly similar to be coincidence. And Johnny Clegg is the artist you're looking for for I Know Why The Dog Howls at the Moon. You're welcome. ;)
ReplyDeleteToo many great songs! Wake Me Up Before You Go Go is AMAZING and if you every play Just Dance on Wii....this song is the absolute best to dance to.
ReplyDeleteConsidering that I am dancing and singing along to Adam Lambert right now (If I Had You), I'm all for loving songs and having no shame about it! This post does show our age difference because I don't even know a Hilly Duff song, but I did take my nieces to her concert about 10 years ago. It pleases me that Wham and Kenny Loggins make an appearance :)
ReplyDeleteThis whole list is great!
ReplyDeleteI was going to leave a comment with some of my guilty pleasure music, and then I realized it would be as long as a post. I've actually been thinking about doing a post like this for a while, but I was always kind of embarrassed. After reading this, I'm inspired to share the music I like that isn't necessarily "cool." Thanks for that! :-)
ReplyDeleteThe entire Mulan soundtrack was the soundtrack to my summer when it came out. We listened to that cassette tape so much that we destroyed it! Why Should I Worry is an excellent song! I'm also a child who loves Disney songs. B*Witched!! I loved their entire first album and miss the days that the Disney channel would air concerts with amazing artists like B*Witched, NSync and Five. Hahaha I also have not idea what some of the words are in One Week. Love Hillary Duff! I also would list some of her movies as a guilty pleasure. Btw she has a new album out! Have you heard it?
ReplyDeleteHilary Duff <3 B*Witched!! Ha ha, the good old days :)
ReplyDeleteI am thrilled to know that I'm not the only person alive that still remembers other Aqua songs besides Barbie Girl ... In The Heat of the Night is a personal jam of mine. I have a horribly embarrassing video of myself that I made as a kid attempting to do an Irish jig of some sort to the B*Witched song, so that one also forever holds a special place in my heart. Are you familiar with (Absolutely) Story of a Girl by Nine Days? That is forever my guilty pleasure song, it's just the best.
ReplyDeleteA few of these are new to me but the majority of them I definitely still listen to. The 90s throwbacks are the best!
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing. I love '90's pop something fierce. I still love H Duff too. She's so cute and seems grounded. I even bought her new album, #noshame and I kind of love it. A lot. Love to listen to the old stuff and watch her old movies too. I kind of love that Phil Collins / N'Sync one on Tarzan. Sort of like True to Your Heart. Also, that Oliver song is great. :) I kind of hate the Footloose song, but other than that I love it. I really really want to see Viva Las Vegas. And then maybe go to Las Vegas... :) XO -Alexandra
ReplyDeleteSimply Alexandra: My Favorite Things
Aww, I love so many of these songs! What a great post idea :) I used to loooooooove Hilary Duff. I think I went to like 3 of her concerts (is that embarrassing?) - I actually still love her because she's a great artist and seems to be a really great mom. I love that she didn't fall into the party scene like a lot of other young celebs.
ReplyDeleteYES to all things disney. So good! And I have a couple of Aqua songs on my phone LOL
Love all these songs but the Oliver and Company one.....Kyra has watched it so many times I die a little bit when I hear it. The Aqua and B*witchec songs are Ah-mazing.
ReplyDeleteSo many of these are on my list of guilty pleasure songs (but I like to call them my always makes me happy songs)
ReplyDeleteYES TO FOOTLOOSE!!!! OMG you're so in my wedding party someday :) You Don't Own Me is the best. How do you NOT sing that?! I think I need to watch First Wive's Club tonight :D
