I'm not sure if this counts as a travel post but I am going to link up with Kate, Kerri & Emily anyway and hope they don't mind! Europe is so close I am really starting to get
excited. I have been dreaming of this for so long and I can't believe we're
really going. I'm looking forward to tons of things of course, but mainly:
The food.
You know how I roll. I
actually might start rolling after all the food I'm gonna eat. Bread,
croissants, macarons,
cheese, crepes, gelato, pasta, pizza, fish n chips, ice cream... seriously this
whole trip is basically centred around what I'm gonna eat and I.cannot.wait.
Being a
tourist.
I know lots of people
try and not look and act like a tourist, but it's one of my favourite things. I
love seeing and doing all the cliche things and you better believe I'm going to
be wearing comfy but hopefully still cute outfits while I do it. I'm going to
do all the cliche things and I'M GONNA LOVE IT.
Learning stuff.
Museums, tours, guidebooks. LEARN ALL THE THINGS.
Experiencing new cultures.
I have never been anywhere that predominantly speaks another language. I'm so excited. I love learning new things and I love seeing how other people live, I mean I know there are tons of similarities but I love noticing the little differences. I don't think one way is better than the other, I just love difference.
My plans coming to
fruition.
I have been planning
this trip since before I met KC. When he came along, I started planning our
trip before we even went to Australia. I actually wanted to go to Europe first,
but I felt bad and I'm so glad I went home instead, but now Europe is really
happening! I have planned almost everything down to an exact itinerary (don't
tell KC though, I'm gonna try and make like it's spontaneous) and as any planner
knows, there is nothing better than actually doing the stuff you planned. I
don't even care if it doesn't happen exactly according to my plan because when
does it ever, but I'm so excited!!
Saying screw the plans if I want to.
Hahahaha as if. Plans = happiness.
Food.
Did I mention the food?
Maybe a few bevvies.
Because I'm on holiday y'all.
Seeing KC interested in stuff.
I love KC, duh, but he's not someone who gets excited or interested a lot, but he does when we travel and I just absolutely love it. It's like I'm a mother and I'm excited that my kid is showing interest in something I love, because while we're at home KC is the least interested in travel person on the planet, or at least in our house. He gets just as excited and dorky as me when we travel. Love. IT.
Over instagramming everything we do.
As if there is such a thing as over-gramming. Well there just might be when I'm done. Follow along!
Things I'm not looking
forward to:
Flying.
Ah so excited your going to love it! And the food, that is really the only reason I travel :)
ReplyDeleteHaha love this! And I love being a tourist too, it's so fun! And enjoy ALL the food and adult beverages because you're on vacation and you deserve it! :)
ReplyDelete<3, Pamela
Sequins & Sea Breezes
Over instagram everything pleeeeeeeeease! I would just suggest to download the maps offline to your phone in case you haven't done that and definitely download TripAdvisor they have the best foods suggestions :)
ReplyDeleteWelcome to my side of the pond! Have a wonderful excellent food filled trip, and take ALL the photos. No such thing as over-gramming. I don't know how good your French is, but you could use the flight over to brush up your skills using an app like Duolingo? I have it and I LOVE it.
ReplyDeleteSo excited for you! And to see all the grams - mainly of all the food you eat, because... food.
ReplyDeleteI'm totally okay with you overgramming so I can live vicariously through your trip! Have fun.
ReplyDeleteHaha dork, but yes to all the food!! And I see nothing wrong with being a tourist, it's one of my most favorite things!! My sister is over in Germany right now so now I'll be double jelly of my friends in Eurpoe without me!
ReplyDeletethe food in europe is UNPARALLELED. it will ruin you for all other food when you get back. after eating pizza in italy back in 2006, we STILL talk about it!
ReplyDeleteI'm excited for you! You're going to have a great time and I totally expect you to overgram everything!
ReplyDeleteAh you're going to have so much fun! OVER-GRAM EVERYTHING! Seriously, let me live vicariously through your food pictures please!
ReplyDeleteagain, i'm SOOOO excited for you! i can't wait. i'm a culture-vulture--all the museums, all the learning, like you!
ReplyDeleteSo completely random iPhone tweak for taking videos because you're going to take a million: Change your video settings to 60 frames per second. You will not BELIEVE how much better and smoother they'll look (plus you can still take a picture while filming so bonus !) which will make the thousands of times you watch them later totally worth it. Have so much fun and I'm going to insta-stalk you like crazy :)
ReplyDeleteSo exciting!! You two are going to have so much fun! I cannot wait to hear all about it. My advice would be to keep a adapter and phone charger in your purse. That way you can charger your phone at a coffee shop if the need arises. And no there is no such things as over-gramming! I wouldn't expect anything less.
ReplyDeleteEeek! I am so so so excited for you. I can't wait to see photos from your trip and hear all about it.
ReplyDeleteAnd girl... the FOOD!! Isn't that the best part of any trip??
So exciting! I agree with all of these things, except for the flying. I love flying!
ReplyDeleteHow fun! Where are you going? And there is no such thing as overgramming, that much is a certainty!
ReplyDeleteTouristy things are the best! When people say things like, "Stay away from ___, it's a huge tourist trap" I know that's the first place I have to go. And I know what you mean about having your significant other excited. Ryan's not generally a super enthusiastic person, either. So when it does happen, it's all the more enjoyable!
ReplyDeleteOhhh, other tips... You're going to France, right? I can't remember... Well, be prepared for menus in French and a-hole waiters to NOT explain to you what anything is. I was the translator for my group when I was there because nobody else spoke French and nobody would tell them the basics off the menu! Let me know if you want me to email you some basics to look for when you're out so you don't end up eating goat or something... I also don't recommend French beef. It's super fatty. But ham and cheese sandwiches are ON POINT, everywhere you go! And egg dishes like quiche and fritattas are fantastic as well.
ReplyDeleteSo excited for you! You are going to love it. Can't wait to see all your photos
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited for you. I also love eating all the food, seeing my plans come to fruition, and being a total tourist.
ReplyDeleteFood, food, fooooooooooood!!! I'm excited for you for the food. YUM.
ReplyDeleteSo fun! We always plan our trips around eating and hitting up all the good restaurants too! ha
ReplyDeleteCRACKING up at the baby. We are on the same train too and lost our last stipulation almost :P
ReplyDeleteYou are going to have SUCH a great time. The great thing is there's so much you can do and see for free-EVERYTHING is gorgeous, the street lamps, the trash cans, the people... :P

Upbeat Soles
Yay, this is so exciting! Can't wait to read all the posts about it when you get back!
ReplyDeleteI will be mad if you DON'T overgram the shit out of this trip. You need to let the rest of us know what we're missing out on! I know you guys will have the best time and I can't wait for you to make this dream come true!
ReplyDeleteI've been to Europe a few times and goodness gracious, I'm so excited for you! All the things you listed are all the wonderful things about travel...and then there is more. I guess my last minute advice is have fun when something doesn't go as planned. Look at it as an adventure. It's all part of the experience. Once, in Italy, there is this outlet centre for fashion houses (it was over-rated so I don't recommend) that I went to in the middle of nowhere. The train that I thought I was supposed to catch never came. The next one, according to the noted times at the station, well, it didn't show either. No one at the station spoke English. But, I figured it out. Another time, my cousin and I were supposed to catch a night train in Zurich to travel to Barcelona. Well, Switzerland had its largest power outage ever and the trains were all messed up. We missed the night train. A lot of people were stranded. Hotels were booked out all around the station. I had the bright idea to catch a train one stop away and hope that a hotel there would be available. One was. And, it had a humongous bath tub (those don't exist on European backpacker accomodations). So, I had the hottest most relaxing bath and felt so clean and wonderful. It's all part of the experience :)
ReplyDeleteOh girl I hope you have the best time. Europe is just the best. I can't wait to read all about it :D
ReplyDeleteI am jealous. I want to go on a long Europe trip too. I will be eagerly waiting for your Europe posts. Have great fun.
ReplyDeletePS - This post made me hungry.
ooooooh have so much fun! I like seeing my KC get interested in things when we travel too. Also for myself really. It's pretty rare that I am legitimately excited about things these days. But when we are traveling that happens so much more frequently. :) I know you'll have the best time! Can't wait to live vicariously through the two of you on IG. :) XO -Alexandra
ReplyDeleteSimply Alexandra: My Favorite Things
You have your priorities right with the food. When somebody travels and isn't excited about the food I always question their sanity just a tiny bit.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to hear all about it! Food and all! Ha! I'll definitely be following along on IG! :) Have a safe trip!
ReplyDeleteHahaha!!! Love the baby comment cause I always say the same thing "After I go to Europe"
ReplyDeleteAnd Zack's kinda the same way about not being interested in travel but then has an amazing time. I just love being on vacation with him
I can't wait to see allll the photos.
Suggestions? Um, have fun and feel free to ditch the museums if you get museum-ed out (it can happen). But mostly have fun!
ReplyDeleteSo jealous! And you'd be a great mom, when the time comes!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you will, but please take pics of ALL the food so my stomach can live vicariously through yours. Food and seeing how other people live are my favorite things about traveling. But mostly food. Have fun, y'all!
ReplyDeleteObviously, I'm behind because you are already in Europe but I really hope you are having the best time! I'm loving the pictures coming across my Instagram feed and can't wait to hear all about it! Soak up every second!
