The Couple That Travels Together...

If you would like to see all my travel posts, including recaps, tips & recommendations and packing guides, please visit my travel page.

I thought Kiki's post was so cute I just had to copy cat.

I feel like every female blogger who loves travelling has a travel loving significant other by her side. It makes me kind of jealous and I wonder what life would be like with a husband who dreamed or planned trips like I do. Or one who doesn't ask how much that will cost when I tell him I want to go somewhere. I wonder how many adventures we would go on if he loved planning and travelling as much as I do?

Don't get me wrong, KC doesn't dislike travel, he's just indifferent. KC enjoys travelling while we are actually travelling (though not for too long), he just doesn't enjoy paying for it.. or planning it. Which sucks because my favourite part is the planning and talking about it part!

Even though it's not his favourite thing in the world to do and it wouldn't be his first choice (he'd rather have the money sitting in the bank) he still does it. He still lets me plan and spend our money on travelling. They say marriage is all about compromise, but I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say there is very little compromise in my marriage - I pretty much get my way every time (and I don't mean that in an evil way). He understands he married a traveller and even though we aren't road tripping or jetting off places every month, we still do plenty of travelling and he just goes along with it all. I'm pretty lucky. He's my favourite travel buddy and I am so thankful for him and how go with the flow he is.

Our very first 'date' was a (short) roadtrip to Cincy for a baseball game.

Then in November of that year, we went on a short road trip to Indy for a football game, and then we went on a much longer drive to a freezing Green Bay to watch the Cowboys lose spectacularly.

I tagged along and met them in London for a very short trip.

After London, we didn't travel again until we met up in Disney in 2011.

And after that we didn't travel until a roadtrip to DC.

Although you can't tell from the photos, a lot of our travelling is with another couple, our best friends. They were planning on going to Gatlinburg for Valentines Day and we tagged along and called it a weekend getaway for my birthday.

Our first real trip together (just us!) was Vegas for our Honeymoon.

We have gone on more roadtrips to Illinois to visit KC's family than I can remember.

And of course, our biggest trip to date was going back home and showing KC around my 'hood.

And last, but certainly not least, we ended 2014 with a short trip to NYC.

And now... we are off on our biggest adventure yet! Sure we went to Australia, but I know that like the back of my hand, or like.. you know, one knows their own country. But now we are headed to Europe for a couple of weeks. Paris, Rome and Dublin. Dream come true. I am so excited, and a little bit terrified.

My brother in law is staying in our house - with my husband's guns - while we are gone. Just in case any creeper stalkery people wanted to know. I've asked some lovely ladies to guest post while I'm gone, so hopefully they'll keep you entertained (duh) and I will catch up on all the reading and commenting when I return. You know I'll be blowing up the gram while I'm gone, so be sure to follow along!

Does your significant other like to travel? Any tips for the places I am going?

  1. Aw yay!!! You're going to have the most amazing time girl! Don't worry, my hubby isn't big on traveling either (at least not planning or anything) but he had an amazing time in Europe too! Can't wait to hear all about it!

  2. Awe so sweet, it really is so much fun traveling together as a couple! I can't wait to hear all about your trip. My tip for your upcoming Euro trip, eat everything!

  3. YOU ARE NEVER GOING TO WANT TO COME HOME! europe is amazing!

eat all the foods. for real, forget about all the calories but EAT and ENJOY. you'll be walking a shit ton anyway so it will all balance out :D

if you go to vatican city, go up St. Peter's Basilica but only do this if you're not clausterphobic. the stairway is narrow as fuck and once you go up, you can't change your mind because EVERYONE behind you will also have to turn around and go back down just to let you out (that's how narrow the stairway is). once you get to the top and outside, the view of st. peter's square is amazing.

visit the sistine chapel. they don't let you take pictures in there (flash hurts the paint) but it's amazing.

walk EVERYWHERE! rome and paris are places that you need to see on foot.

in paris, wander all around those tiny cobblestone alleys; there are tons of adorable boutiques tucked away

go to mcdonald's in paris and order a Royale with Cheese because Pulp Fiction. then you can say you had a royale with cheese :D

if you see any, eat a crepe from the crepe stand on any paris street #nomfuckingnom

i have never been to dublin but make sure you take tons of pics and show us!!

  4. We both love to travel and I was so nervous on our first trip, because I knew it would be telling of our future together, haha. So glad we can travel together well :)!

  5. Y'all have traveled a lot! Both me and my hubs are like your hubs... Not thrilled about the travel planning process. We could use one of you! Actually, for real, we want to go on a trip late this summer/early fall...

And I totally know what you mean by saying your marriage doesn't have compromise - you get what you want. I/we're the same way! Hubs is just so laid back, he's always like "do whatever you want" "get what makes you happy" and so forth. Yay for us!!

  6. I can't wait to hear all about Europe! Have so much fun!

  7. D loves to travel and he actually does most of our day-to-day travel planning (food, sightseeing). I am in charge of researching hotels, flights, rental cars, etc. We make a pretty good travel team. :)

I have never been to any of the places you are going. I really want to go to Ireland. D and I have considered going to Ireland for our honeymoon. But I think we are going to save that trip for an anniversary. Because I would want to see ALL THE THINGS in Ireland and that is not really what you want to do on a honeymoon. ;)

  8. Adam could take or leave travel as well, it's not that he's against it but he doesn't get as excited as I do for trips and like to plan months in advance like I do. He's so easy going, he's just along for the ride. But we always have a blast!

  9. You guys always look so happy in your travel pics!! I got lucky to get a hubs that loves to travel, loves to plan and do all that jazz -- usually I'm just along for the ride!! I hope you have the best time ever, and I can't wait to see all the pics!!

  10. When are you leaving! I literally can't wait for your photos on instagram!! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston

  11. My boyfriend & I both love to travel. We would travel nonstop if we could. The only problem? Money. haha We try to go somewhere once a year (besides small roadtrips). This year we are going to New Mexico to go skiing and snowboarding.

  12. Eeek! I am getting so so so so excited to see photos from your trip.

And holy moley. That old timey photo is seriously funny. :)

  13. That's awesome. :) You've taken so many trips together. :) I love the idea of this post. I may have to copy it too someday... We've made a big point to travel a lot. It can be tough, but I like the trips that we have taken so far. :) Hoping reading about your trip will inspire me to start thinking out a European adventure for me and my KC. I would love to explore Europe with him! XO -Alexandra

  15. Have a great trip!!! That's awesome that you guys have done so much together. I like traveling with Ryan, but I'll be honest, I have more fun with my sisters. He wants to go places to relax and sit around, and I'm like, "I can sit around at home! We need to go see all the things!"

  16. You guys have done sooo much! One of the things that G and I want to do more of is travel, but right now we just can't justify it in our budget. So, it's more of an every once in awhile splurge... that requires lots of pre-planning :) G also hates to plan trips, even though he loves to travel.

  17. aw, so fun! I love looking at all the adventures of couples. Really cute collection of photos! My husband travels allllllllllll the time for work so he's incredibly used to it and has all his ducks in a row. He always says to never check a bag but I can never do that! You're going to have the best time in Europe, seriously.

  18. Have so much fun on your trip! Can't wait to see what you do and where all you visit and the food! Especially the food ;)

  19. so jealous of your upcoming trip!!!!!!! Love that you and KC go on so many fun adventures!!

  20. I think Ricky & I have no pictures together on trips.... because we usually are wanting to kill each other. We're not good travelers.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Ben is the same way. He likes traveling when we're actually doing it but has no interest in planning it or talking about it until kingdom come. I'm just like come on, I really need to tell about about all these hotels and excursions I found!!!! And he's like...just pick something.
I'm so excited for you and KC to go on this amazing adventure together! And to see all your pics duh.

  22. That is awesome he goes along with your travelling spirit. So many great adventures and hope you have a blast while you are gone! I love the mention of the house sitter!

  23. Ah you guys are going to have a blast in Europe! Such a cute picture of y'all in NYC!

  24. Well, I'm a single female blogger who likes to travel but has no default travel companion, so I kinda feel your situation. (I mean, obviously the best solution is to leave KC behind and travel at least all around the U.S. together. Right?)
Anyway. I am so, so excited for you to take this trip and have the holiday of a lifetime! You and KC are going to have such fun and I can't wait to see and swoon over every insta you post. Safe travels, bon voyage, enjoy!!! xoxo

  25. you're travel photos are so great, you better take SO many when you go to EU!

i can't believe how tiny the castle is in disneyland ;)

i love traveling too and my husband hates it all too, the planning, the money, but while he's there he loves every bit of it!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Mark sounds just like KC. Major eye rolling during the whole process but then when we are actually doing it, he is happy and content. I love that throwback old time picture of the two of you. It seriously cracks me up and I love your expressions in it!

  27. My husband likes thinking about travelling. He always talks about where he wants to go, but when I take him seriously and sit him down to plan logistics he no longer wants to go. We have some friends who are living over in South Korea for the next year, so you better believe we are going! I hate planning logistics myself, but I'm making this happen! Also, as a lifelong Packers fan, I'm super jealous you got to see such a superior team play in the flesh. ;)

  28. Look at all your traveling!!! I would like to start setting money aside to take an awesome trip somewhere...or at least get my husband out of the southeast and let him know there is a world beyond it hahaha. but for now our travels have only been to Gatlinburg and Gulf Shores together.

I know that you are going to have such an amazing time!!! I cant wait to see all your pictures and hear all about it. Please stuff your face with all the noms for me!!!! Vacation calories totally don't count!!!

  29. Traveling is the greatest thing in the world...truly! Worldly possessions don't really make us richer - but experiences sure do! So glad you and your husband can experience a lot together.

Ryan's been to Afghanistan and Korea, I've been ALL over, and together we've been to Arizona, NY, NH, FL, Mexico, the Bahamas, Quebec City and South Africa :)

  30. Scott likes to travel--once we get to the destination. He's a terrible traveller, though, and we've never flown to Europe. That should be interesting when we do.

You guys are going to have an incredible time!

  31. I love seeing all the pics of you with your blonde hair! You guys have definitely traveled a lot together, and this next trip will be epic! My husband shares the travel bug with me, but he also hates paying for it and doesn't get excited about the planning until we're getting close to leaving for the trip and starts researching where he wants to go while there. Can't wait to follow along on Instgram, are you guys leaving in the next few days?

  32. I felt like you were reading my mind those first couple of paragraphs!!! Nick will travel with me and enjoy it once we're there... but he's definitely never itching to get out and travel like I am. And let's not even get into discussing how much these things are going to cost, haha! I just try and plan it and budget all of it by myself and he never needs to know ;)

    ReplyDelete
  33. Seth NEVER wants to take off work to go anywhere- we SO need to plan more trips! I love this post- great pictures! You blonde always throws me off! hahaha

  34. 3 weeks, how awesome! Rome was my absolute favorite city in Europe (I did three weeks in Europe three years ago)! Make sure to stop at Frigadarium (google it) for the best gelato in all of Italy. You won't be disppointed; I have sent many a blogger there!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I love the old-timey saloon picture!

My husband is sort of like that. He wants to be doing the traveling, but not think about the planning and details. I feel a need to plan everything and be prepared. I have a "better safe than sorry" mentality.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I've been to Paris, Rome, and Dublin. I don't have any super secret insider information. I'm sure all the places I went you've already got planned (being the super planner that you are). Eat the food. Drink the drink. See the sites. Enjoy the adventure!

As for a significant other that likes to travel like I like to travel. I had that. We dated off and on for about 10 years. We had some amazing travel experiences. Truly amazing. I am grateful for the times we shared. But, we shouldn't have stayed together that long. There were many toxic things about our relationship. I think some of the amazing experiences kepts us together.

  37. My husband loves traveling and so do I but we both hate spending money on it haha! So we usually only take small trips... I want to go to Europe soooo bad though! Its on my list before babies ;) You are going to have the best time!!

  38. Aw I love all the pictures of your travels together! My SO and I haven't travelled much together, but he gets nervous in unfamiliar places so I am curious to see how he handles our eventual trip to Europe haha. Heading over to follow you on insta now!

  39. You're a very lucky girl and I love that even if its not his favourite thing he gives his girl what she wants hehe. But tell KC I say (he has no clue who I am but still...) get on the travel planning bandwagon. Its literally half the fun!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Unfortunately I've never done any real travelling with a significant other and my current boyfriend, our relationship is so new that we're still just learning things about each other. Though we do have some local trips planned so that a) we can spend more time together and b) I can actually see more of the beautiful state of Washington. Sadly I've never been to any of the places that you are going to but I'm so excited for you! I'm also a planner and my favorite parts of travelling is the planning and the talking about it. And the flying. I'm a sucker for flying. Can't wait to see all the great photos when you get back. By the way, you and KC are freaking adorable.

  41. i usually travel with my cousin who shares the same enthusiasm as me for it. i am all about the planning too. and i'm the annoying person who gives info about the place we are going to while we are traveling there. i like to be prepared!!

  42. Have SUCH a great time. It doesn't really matter that he is not passionate about travel. What matters is that he does!!

    ReplyDelete
  43. I think it's a lot easier to go traveling when you automatically have a travel buddy. That's great that KC is up for it, even if it's not his favorite thing. Have lots of fun in Europe!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I think I am more like your husband... I like the money in the bank lol it pains me a little to see the number drop but hey, the memories are so worth it. Have fun on your trip to Europe! I can't wait to read all about it!

  46. I LOVE Dublin!! Have the most amazing time.

Does anybody REALLY like the paying for it aspect of travel though? I mean, surely free travel is everyone's dream? ;-)

  47. Of the three places you're going, I've only been to Paris (going to Dublin in August, I think, so I can get suggestions from you!). Each time I went, it was only for a couple of days, but I loved it. If you want a sort of expensive, but low key dinner experience, Racines is a great restaurant (I went to Racines 2 on the rue de l'Arbre Sec).

  49. I'm lucky to have a husband who enjoys traveling as much, if not more, than I do. But he doesn't love planning it. He would rather us just pack up and leave where as I'm more of a schedule type of gal.

Love seeing all of your adventures. Hope you're having a blast!
