Guest Post by Gina

Today's guest poster is none other than Gina from On The Daily Express. I only follow about 5 fashion bloggers and Gina is obviously one of them. Everything I own from Express has been bought by her recommendations and I just love her style and personality. You definitely need to be reading her blog if you aren't already.

If my name or my blog rings a bell, it might because I've influenced a few of Kristen's purchases since we "met" through blogging over a year ago. In going through a few of her posts (and especially her European packing plan), I saw my fingerprints on a few her outfits

For example, I'm willing to accept some responsibility for introducing her to the striped sweater, beige cardigan, camichevron fringe necklacemixed metal necklace and striped tee she's wearing below:

But I'm not actually here to talk about my shopping influences. In case you haven't heard, Kristen is an Australian living in America. As her guest it seemed appropriate for me to fuse our two favorite things to blog about: Australia and Fashion.

I went through dozens of pictures of famous Aussie women and while a lot of them look glamorous on the red carpet (like Isla Fisher and Naomi Watts), their everyday looks weren't always so put together. But two ladies rarely had a fashion misstep: Miranda Kerr and Elle MacPherson. I pulled together some images of their cute, casual outfits for your viewing pleasure:

Miranda Kerr:

Elle Macpherson:

I noticed that there were two specific outfit formulas each of these ladies seem to have on repeat:

Denim on Denim:

Basic Black on Denim:

One thing I frequently do on my blog is share outfit inspiration from a wide range of sources. It could be anything from music to movies to cake to Barbie! So true to form, I used the top two Australian outfits for inspiration to see if they could also work on non-supermodel Americans:

Aussie-Inspired Outfits:

Black Top: Express / Lightwash Jeans: Nordstrom / Necklace: Express / Shoes: Sole Society
Blue Top: Express / Darkwash Jeans: Express / Yellow Bag and Pink Shoes: Jessica Simpson

I'm giving both of these outfits the Unofficial American Seal of Style Approval, and I'd love to see Kristen re-create one or both of them herself when she gets home! Thanks for checking out my Aussie Style overview today and I hope you'll stop by my blog sometime and say "Cheerio!" so I'll know you found me through Kristen!

  1. I am not sure I can pull off the denim on denim but love the other outfit choices. Very chic.

  2. I love Express but sometimes I feel like their stuff is expensive for what it is. It might just be some of the pieces I've picked up though. Love that most of their stuff is timeless though! And obsessed with Miranda Kerr's style. So perfect!

    1. I agree with you...their sticker prices are kind of high but they have such frequent sales and promotions no one should really pay full price. :) Sometimes it's hard to wait for a sale but eventually everything there does go on sale.

  3. These are all such great outfit choices. I too, don't think I could do denim on denim, but loving the black top with the denim. Your recreation was perfect.

  5. Both of these ladies are absolutely gorgeous! I don't know what you're talking about calling yourself a non-supermodel American, because you look just as fantastic in the looks! Love your interpretations :)

    1. Oh Gretchen you are too kind. I'm about a foot too short and two decades too old to be a supermodel. But thanks for the confidence boost!

  6. I'm not exactly fashion-oriented—I mean, I like to look put-together of course, but I don't get the thrill from shopping or styling outfits that so many people do—but all these looks are so sleek and gorgeous but don't scream "high-maintenance" to me. I'll have to add these ladies to my list of style icons, which currently is pretty short and contains just Audrey Hepburn and Lauren Conrad ;) thanks for sharing!

    1. I'm so glad you related to them! I think that's what I like about both of them. Everything was polished and classic. Those pictures could be from this year or 5-10 years ago and I wouldn't really know the difference based on what they're wearing.

    1. I won't argue with that! But only if it suits your style. I know it won't be everyone's cup of tea!

  8. You really got Miranda's outfit. I also like your take on the Elle outfit better than hers. Adding in the yellow bag and pink shoes made it better.

    1. Thanks Megan! I think I cheated a little since I didn't do a true denim on denim but...that's what felt more comfortable to me!

  10. Awww, yay! Love seeing Gina in another setting! And I will need to do denim on denim again but with a pop of leopard! Love the inspiration!

  11. I'm an American living in Australia, so Kristen and I swapped countries. I think the BIG difference between "casual" style in Australia versus casual in America is it is 100% okay to be truly casual in OZ. There isn't the pressure to be so put-together in Australia as in America. For instance, if a celeb is truly casual in America, photos are splashed on tabloids, and they are ripped apart for looking sloppy. That just doesn't really happen here.

  12. Awesome outfit inspiration and I love how you and Kristen clearly have exceptional taste ;)

  13. I'm a big fan of black on denim and have just recently started attempting denim on denim (not always my favorite look but when it's right, it's right, you know?). I love these looks, especially since I'm a capsule wardrober and always on the lookout for things that are super simple but look really put together. I hope Kristen takes you up on your challenge to recreate them :) Thanks for sharing!
