No? Well, I can dream.
Here are 10 books that (in my opinion) need to be made into movies - stat! But Hollywood? Please don't ruin them!
1. The Bronze Horseman Trilogy by Paullina Simons
Honestly I have no idea how they would do this without ruining it, so maybe it's for the best. But I would really love to see movie made from these books - they are some of my favourites for sure.
2. The Grand Sophy by Georgette Heyer
I don't know if anyone but me would enjoy this movie, but I absolutely adored this book like hands down fabulousness amazing book. But, it is a regency romance and I know that isn't everyone's cup o' tea or jam. But hey, it's mine. A company in the USA owns the film rights to this book so perhaps that means we might one day see one? They'd have a hard time casting Sophy, in my opinion. I can't even think of anyone. Kelly Macdonald is pretty hilarious and I like her, so I suggest her. Doesn't she look silly and happy?
3. The Stephanie Plum Series by Janet Evanovich
I know they made the first one into a movie, though I don't know why - did they think they were going to make 20+ movies? This would be a great TV show, in my opinion.
4. Handle With Care by Jodi Picoult
Or at least another Picoult book so we can wipe the horrendous movie to book adaptation that is My Sister's Keeper from our memories.
5. The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer
I freaking LOVE this series and hurry up November for the last one. I would love to see these books made into movies, though I'm not sure how they would do it - I'm sure Hollywood could figure something out! If I could have my dream cast - I would choose Lena Headey for Queen Levana, Stanley Tucci for Dr Erland (I just love him), Karen Gillan as Scarlet (red riding hood, though Karen might be too old? Not in a mean way, you know I love her) so maybe Emily Browning because she's bad ass (and Australian). I can't think of anyone perfect for Cinder (Cinderella), but Elle Fanning would be adorable as Cress (Rapunzel).
6. The Jessica Darling Series by Megan McCafferty
Wouldn't this be fabulous as a TV show? Or movies? Again, the chances of them ruining these amazing books are pretty high.. but I would love for them to try!
7. Attachments by Rainbow Rowell
This book is adorable and I think it would be the perfect movie (albeit a bit rom-commy but hey I dig it). Apparently Eleanor & Park is going to be a movie, so maybe Attachments will follow afterwards!
8. The Selection Series by Kiera Cass
It's like the bachelor, but for teenagers, with a dash of futuristic dystopia. This would be a fun movie, even if they only made the first one. Apparently they tried to make it into a TV show but it wasn't picked up. Might as well try again!
9. The Martian by Andy Weir
Ok, kind of cheating because they are making a movie out of this book and I cannot wait! If you haven't read this book yet, I highly recommend! I really recommend the audiobook, if you can.
10. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
Hey, it's about time for another Pride and Prejudice movie, I daresay! The BBC series was made in 1995 and the most recent movie was 2005... It's been 10 years guys! Gotta make sure every generation has a P&P. I will settle for the upcoming Pride and Prejudice and Zombies movie, but I want a new movie by 2020 please Hollywood.
Linking up with The Broke and The Bookish.
Do you have a favourite book you wish they'd make into a movie?
I would love to see the Jessica Darling series! I really must read the rest of those books.
ReplyDeleteIt is sad to say I haven't read most of these books but Attachments would be a great book to turn into a movie. I think I could handle a Jodi Picoult movie, so long as it's not the Lone Wolf.
ReplyDeleteI just read The Selection series last week and thought they were a series you would definitely read... glad to know I was right about that! I think it would make such a fun movie! I just want to see all of the dresses :)
ReplyDeleteI can't even count how many books I've read that after I've been like "hmm this would make a great movie". Then there are some books that were made into movies and I wasn't a fan haha. I definitely need to read The Martian before it comes out as a movie!

Love that you put Attachments on here. When I read it, I totally put together my dream cast for the movie version. I cannot wait to see Matt Damon in The Martian! As far as books I'd like to see turned into a movie, maybe The Girl on the Train? I did see this morning that Me Before You is being turned into a movie so let's pick that as my choice, too.
ReplyDeleteLove this list! I think you're in luck because it seems like every book is turning into a movie lately. I'm sure The Girl on the Train is next ;-)
ReplyDeleteI imagine a Jessica Darling tv series turning out a little like New Girl, hahaha (and if it did, I'd tune in every week). I want to hold onto the 2005 P&P. I can't think of what actors would fit each role... Who would you pick?
ReplyDeleteI hadn't heard that they were making The Martian into a movie. :)
ReplyDeleteI wish they would finish the Chronicles of Narnia books. I know, the other movies weren't awesome, but how can they not finish them?!
I really liked the Pride and Prejudice with Kiera Knightley. And you're so right about more people picking up the book because the movies make it more widely heard of. I probably wouldn't have read P&P if not for the movie.
ReplyDeleteToo bad you didn't think of anyone for Cinder; your other casting picks are spot on! I'd be very interested to see if it would translate well to film. It could be good!
I didn't hear that they are making The Martian into a movie!!
ReplyDeleteI'm reading the Martian right now and I LOVE it. I'm so excited they're making a movie--and with some awesome actors, too!! Matt Damon is Mark Watney. Eeek!
ReplyDeleteWell considering I haven't read any of these books I'd be happy if they were made into movies because then I would be able to see them LOL! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston
ReplyDeleteNot surprisingly, I've read zero of these books. BUT, I did read My Sister's Keeper years before the movie came out, and actually saw the movie within the last year. The movie was still a tear-jerker, but I was like, c'mon. That book was fantastic and THAT'S what you came up with?!
ReplyDeleteI would be first in line at the Attachments premier! Seriously that would be an adorable movie! I loved that book SO MUCH.
ReplyDeleteI'd love another P&P, especially if it was as long as it should be! Maybe a mini-series?
ReplyDeleteI saw the Stephanie Plum movie and it was a little cheesy, but I loved it. I'd love a tv series!
I would be okay if no books were made into movies ever again. LOL
ReplyDeletetouchy subject for book readers! As they rarely live up to expecatations, ha. I love how you want another P&P.
ReplyDeleteSaving this one for my Summer reading list!
ReplyDeleteIf they can remake every other movie, then surely P&P has gotta be up again!
ReplyDeleteI think they messed up on the opportunity for Stephanie Plum series for movies. But TV is really a great idea!
Attachments! Yes!! And UGH how terrible was my sister's keeper the movie. Made me so angry!
ReplyDelete#3. I could not agree with you more!! First, I think we can all agree that the movie was just darn awful, but I still watch it any chance I get - I don't know why. Katherine Heigl was just like forcing the Jersey accent TOO much. WE DON'T ALL TALK LIKE THAT. Secondly, this would be the perfect TV series! there are so many of those books!! Or like a 1 - 2 season TV show and thats it! Why can't they do this?!
ReplyDeleteI don't think it would ever occur to me to pick up a book called the Martian :) But now I'm sort of interested...
ReplyDeleteAGREE about P&P. I would also like a new Persuasion movie!
Totally agree on another JP book being made into a movie, but only as long as they PROMISE not to royally ruin it like they did My Sister's Keeper. Ugh, awful. And YESSSS to the JD series! Megan McCafferty has been trying to make a Sloppy Firsts movie happen for YEARS and I'm pretty sure the entire fanbase is on board. ARE YOU LISTENING, HOLLYWOOD? THIS IS A GOOD IDEA PLEASE DO IT.
ReplyDeleteahhh LOVE this! agreed. so many books need to be movies! also, i didn't love the martian like everyone else. I know. I KNOW.
ReplyDeleteI can always count on you for suggestions of new reading! I love thinking about who would play what in a dream cast scenario!
ReplyDeleteTotally agree that they need to make another P&P, I can't get enough! I need to read The Martian, I've heard lots of people rave about it!
ReplyDeleteI completely aree with you that the Stephanie Plum series would make a great TV show. But only if we do the casting, right???? And YES to Attachments too!!!!! I freaking LOVED that book. I haven't read the rest of these yet, and I really ought to get on it!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read any of these. You always have the best recommendations. I am going to add them to my list.
ReplyDeleteAhh, I was nervous thinking "i haven't read ANY of these", until I got to P&P. Phew! I've read that one a few million times so that should count for something right? :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't read any of these either, but one book i'd love to see on the screen is from Khaled Hosseini, "and the mountains echoed". He's the one who wrote The Kite Runner. Wonderful books.
ReplyDeleteThe Selection is being made into a movie! :) Aimee Teegarden is playing America. And the guy from the Narnia movies is one of the guys.
ReplyDeleteBut definitely Cinder, I think that one's on every list I've seen today (I love Elle Fanning!). And I'm absolutely all for another P&P
Haha YES to another Jodi Picoult adaptation! I still can't understand why she would let them completely ruin My Sister's Keeper....
ReplyDeleteThere is a book called A Great and Terrible Beauty that I would love to see made into a movie! I think there was talk about one but I don't think they are making it anymore. Wah. Hopefully one day!

I think I need to re-read Pride and Prejudice this summer!
ReplyDeleteMy mom loves the Stephanie Plum series! I have never read them but from what she has told me about them I think they would make awesome movies!

Ah, attachments! I feel like that one will be difficult to translate on film. It'd have to be carefully done :)
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! It's been TEN YEARS since the Keira Knightly version of P&P?! What is happening.
ReplyDeleteIt is the best when a good book turns into a movie!
ReplyDeleteWill definitely add The Martian to my reading list now!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like everyone wants them to take a shot at the Lunar Chronicles! And I agree, it's definitely time for another line-by-line adaptation of P&P. ;)
ReplyDeleteThe Stephanie Plum series WOULD be good TV show!!!!!!
ReplyDelete6, 7, 8 and 9 yes. Frankly I don't like when movies butcher books I love but if they could get it right Id love those to be movies!
