Not part of the cool crowd

Inspired by Amanda's post here, I thought I would share the things that I don't like or understand that everyone else seems to.

Peanut butter and jelly.
I don't mind peanut butter but the whole peanut butter and jam thing is american and no thank you that is just WEIRD. Okay it's not weird, it's just different but ew.

Nutella.
Blegh. Yuk.

Pumpkin flavoured anything sweet.
I like pumpkin soup, but you can keep your pumpkin drinks and pumpkin pie.

Coffee.
Everyone tells me one day I will like this, but I have always hated coffee. I hate the taste. Caffeine has never affected me, so I won't need it for that either. I hate the smell and the taste. The only one time I have ever drank coffee is when I was very, very drunk and Megan made me so that I could 'sober up' before going out that night. Classy, we were.

Wine.
I used to like wine. Then I drank like 2.5 litres on an empty stomach and we're not friends anymore. Sometimes you might see me with a glass (bein' real on the gram) but I almost never finish it and it always makes me do that alcohol shudder. I do like sparkling wine though.

Target.
What. I know. Thing is, I don't not like Target, I'm just not in love with it like everyone else. I can go in there for one thing and walk out with one thing. Of course, I can go in there for nothing and buy all the things, but I can do that anywhere - it's a shopaholic thing, not a Target thing.

Big bang theory or how I met your mother or the walking dead or insert-popular-tv-show here.
I'm really not big on TV, though there are a couple of shows I'll watch, they aren't normally the super popular ones. I don't hate any of these shows - big bang and how I met your mother are fine but they aren't as good as the show they are trying to replace (Friends in my opinion). I tried the walking dead but I couldn't get past the first season. Not my jam. I did get into Scandal, but I haven't watched this season.

Real housewives of anything.
I tried to watch one of these and I just couldn't get into it. Not my jam. I love the gifs though.

Midi rings.
They're cute on some people, but rings in general aren't my thing so midi rings definitely aren't.

Fake tans.
I've tried it myself, I've had a spray tan, it's just not for me. I always feel like I look a bit orange and I prefer the way a natural tan looks on me but I don't like the whole skin cancer / look like a leather bag thing that comes with it. I don't mind being pale.

Painting my nails.
I suck at painting my own nails - no matter what I do, I ruin them. If elephants fly and I don't ruin them myself - they chip or flake within hours. Even when I go to a nail place, my nails never last. I don't understand the point.

Wordpress.
I get why people want to switch and I do agree that some wordpress blogs look better than the average blogger blog, but.. I've seen some awesome, gorgeous blogger blogs and I like blogger. I've never really had any huge issues and I don't see myself switching. That's just me though (as is this whole post, and er.. blog). I don't care if you use Wordpress (or Disqus) but I can with almost 100% certainty say I never will.

Fresh Flowers
Yeah, they're pretty, and yeah they smell nice, and yeah they are cheap at Trader Joes. But they die. I don't see the point. You know what doesn't die? Clothes. Clothes are pretty. Books. Books smell pretty. Neither of these die (unless they are crap, in which case you should get your money back but you can't do that with flowers, can you?).

Do you like any of these things, or are you in the not cool crowd with me?

  1. i stopped reading after the coffee part. just kidding :D

not down with things like chick flicks, i don't get the hype with pitch perfect (frankly, i thought it was NOT funny and couldn't stand it after 10mins), all things harry potter (SORRY i have tried for EIGHT YEARS to get into it and i just can't), true detective (everyone loved the show but i thought it was a snorefest), fashion anything.

  2. You lost me at Target *sigh* lol... oh my favorite place where almost everything comes from. But I will totally co-sign you on the whole Wordpress thing. I've seen some beautiful Wordpress blogs, but I'm loyal to my Blogger account and I'm technology challenged so trying to figure out a whole new platform and paying a boatload of money for it just isn't in the cards for me. And love love LOVE the Ross' tan gif, one of my favorite episodes ever :-D

  3. LOLOL @ flowers. I love them.

I don't LOVE Target either. I do like it a lot but more for the reason you said- I like to buy things and it's a place that gives me the opportunity to buy a variety of things in one spot i.e. clothes, home goods, and groceries. Efficient. Sold.

No midi-rings or Real Housewives here either. And as I get older I drink wine less and less.

  4. OHMYGOSH YOU AND I JUST BECAME BEST FRIENDS FOR LIFE. Outside of coffee and wine and fresh flowers. But for real, Nutella is DISGUSTING. Why do people fake tan? You're orange, not tan. Walking Dead is the STUPIDEST show I've ever seen, ever.

Target is not my dream getaway, I don't go more than once a week, and when I do, I get out of there ASAP. Target "Style" is ugly and cheap. Yes, I just said that and realize I just got myself kicked out of the blogging world. At least I won't be wearing cheap and ugly clothes. And finally, I unfollow anyone who posts anything about pumpkin spice anything because it tastes like CRAP, and seriously, I can't follow such basic-ness...

    We're secret besties.

  5. i don't get BBT or most popular shows either. i never liked how i met your mother, which everyone seems to like. they humor seems too predictable to me and formulaic. i do like my mad men (which ends this weekend), game of thrones, and i like orphan black. those are dramas but i swear i love comedy!

    ReplyDelete
  6. LOL I totally join you on most of these. Hate Nutella, hate pumpkin flavored anything, hate BBT, Walking Dead, etc. Yeah... we have a lot of the same opinions on these things! I do like Target (obviously) but usually only for trendy pieces that I don't want to spend more than $20 or $30 on because I know they won't be in style for long. However, I do also agree on the flowers thing. I won't turn down pretty fresh flowers but I certainly won't buy them myself!

  7. haha see I totally, completed hated Friends. But I love the Walking Dead and BBT!
Agree on a lot of these those. Like Wordpress (minimum, just cheap hosting, is $60 a year. Plus domain name, plus the transfer of things, etc etc... nope), painting my nails, Target, real housewives, yep yep yep. Not coffee though. I get headaches and eye twitches without my coffee! Which is probably bad but I care... not at all. Give me all the coffee.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Can I join you? I'm not a fan of Nutella at all. I don't find the Big Bang Theory to be funny at all. I do not understand why people like it so much. As for The Walking Dead, I only watch it because my favorite actor is in it, if he gets killed off I won't watch it anymore. It is a good show but they have too many "filler" episode that I find to just be a waste. I will admit tho, I LOVE Target. I don't know why but I do. My sister doesn't really like it as much as me.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I agree nothing will ever replace Friends! And the gifs are definitely the best thing to come from Real Housewives. I don't think I have every painted my nails myself successfully....ever. But coffee and wine, I love :)

    ReplyDelete
  10. For a second there, your gifs confused me and I thought Lord of the Rings was on your list and I began to mourn the end of our once beautiful Internet friendship. But then I realized you were talking about rings, and all was right with the world again.

I think the only ones I disagree on are the food. Nutella!!! Yum... (Also, when my sisters and I went to Europe, we wanted to get peanut butter for sandwiches, and we couldn't find a single jar. We accidentally bought something we thought was peanut butter which turned out to be like a cookie paste. Gross!) On a side note: peanut butter is the only nut "butter" that is nothing like butter. They should probably call it peanut sugar paste to more accurately reflect what it is.

  11. Oh my gosh, I am laughing so hard right now cause I agree with sooo many of these. What a perfect, relatable list and thanks for the smiles!! Happy happy Wednesday!!

  12. I'm not against PB&J, but I don't eat much peanut butter. Canned pumpkin with chocolate cake mix makes good semi-sweet muffins (not pumpkin tasting). Used to drink coffee, lost the taste, and now I just drink frappuccinos every now and then. I'm not super attached to any store (except maybe my favorite local sushi place). I'm zero alcohol and, while I can waste time watching TV (but no "reality" shows outside HGTV), only "follow" one or two shows (usually with Netflix binge-ing after the fact). I'm pretty much zero makeup, nails and face, I'm fine being on Blogger, and I don't really like flowers. Yay not cool crowd! And great gifs! :)

    ReplyDelete
  13. Well, I am your opposite on almost all of these but that's okay. We can still be friends. We're just DIFFERENT, not weird. Real Housewives of OC 4 EVA!!!! And yes, they do make the best gifs. I wish I could share more of my faves in this comment box but I might just have to post them to my blog. :) Okay so we do agree on Wordpress (nothing against it I just don't see why I would possibly need to switch! And learn a new format??? No thank you!) and fresh flowers. And midi rings. But I loved PB&J as a kid (don't eat it now) and I love fake tans and painted fingernails and pumpkin everything and coffee so I will just keep them all for meeee!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Maybe it's cause I'm American and grew up on it, but I love pb&j. And nutella :O It's like the best stuff on earth! But I totally don't get real housewives, or wine, or fake tans. Why would someone want to match a bag of cheetos? Why? And I also agree with you with fresh flowers. Why get some fresh flowers when you can get food. Food >> everything. But overall, I loved the idea of this article, it was interesting to read more about the gal behind the blog... and I think I may copy you ;)

  15. So funny! Can we still be friends even though I could survive on fat pb&j's for life, I get lost in Target and don't mind one bit and you know I love painting my nails haha. I'm with you on the pumpkin thing, I'm the only person I know that hates pumpkin anything, bleh.

    ReplyDelete
  16. No nutella for you - oh my it's so good, but i never have it anymore because Gary is allergic - which makes me sad!! Big bang theory is only good because of Sheldon - he's too funny! xo, Biana - BlovedBoston

    ReplyDelete
  17. I am with you on so many of these except coffee. It's my life blood lately!!! I can't stand pumpkin drinks, though pumpkin pie is pretty good.

    ReplyDelete
  18. k girl ,your gif game is on POINT. it's killing me hahaha I've never tried coffee but I've always liked the smell! have you tried PJ & Jelly before? it is actually so freaking delicious haha but I only like it with strawberry jam. Grape jelly/jam is disgusting

  19. I agree with you on the housewives and I hate painting my nails too, but I do it anyways! I like flowers, but you are totally right, they die anyways unlike clothes haha.

  20. I'm with you on the PB&J (I love a peanut butter sandwich, but no thanks on the jelly!). You lost me on the coffee and the housewives, but we're still pals, haha :)

    ReplyDelete
  21. I agree with so much here, but especially the Real Housewives!!! I thought I was the only woman on earth who wasn't into those! I've never watched more than a few minutes!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I agree with 99.9% of the list except that I do like to paint my nails. However, I hate traveling and I believe you are a big fan! I'm always envious of those who enjoy it so much. :)

    ReplyDelete
  23. I've never even seen an epi of Housewives of anything, so that makes me happy. I love having my nails done and PB&J is the ONE thing I can't wait to have after I finish this first round of Fit Girls. I'm pretty sure it's a sentimental thing, but I also love Nutella and have been eating that since I was a kid too. I really don't like pumpkin anything, but I'll eat the pie with a lot of whip cream. Those shows you mentioned, I only tried to watch TWD and couldn't get through one episode. I'll stick with my Chicago Fire.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Ha yes to so many of these!! I just don't get the hype with some things. It's almost like some things become a "cult following" where people just blindly become obsessed with something just because everyone else is. Sigh...

    ReplyDelete
  25. I give so much credit to people who don't HAVE TO have coffee in the morning. If I don't have my a.m. coffee it will be a morning straight out of a scene from the walking dead.

    ReplyDelete
  26. PBJ sandwiches are something Ive never tried and never will. I like peanut butter alone...i can also relate on the popular TV show point. I just can't keep up with them or desire to follow a full series.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Love this so much! I tried Nutella once and it was TERRIBLE - I don't understand the hype! I'm Team Blogger all the way too - I understand it and Wordpress seems really complicated.

Don't hate me because I'm obsessed with Target, coffee, and wine please! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  28. This was great!!! I agree with a lot and disagree with a few. I like Big Bang and Walking Dead. The Real Housewives are a guilty pleasure, but a total crap show, it's like watching a train-wreck. I have successfully boycotted Target since September. I had a bad customer service experience (dealing with an online order) and I will not spend my money there...and I don't really miss it. I'm on board with thinking that flowers are a waste of money, but they are so pretty, however cats. I bought flowers when we had guests for their room and after they left moved it to the living room, first night, Eddie knocked over the vase. This is why we can't have nice things :)

    ReplyDelete
  29. haha yes! I wrote a post very similar a while ago and the main thing was real housewives... i just don't get it! but i do like pumpkin flavored!

    ReplyDelete
  30. I just have to pick a fight with you on one thing...HOW DO YOU NOT LIKE NUTELLA?!? But you're an Aussie, and you guys have weird things like bbq shapes and marmite, so you OBVIOUSLY have different tastebuds :P

I agree with you on a lot though! Big Bang theory is only OK. I barely ever paint my nails (except toenails, because it lasts longer). The real housewives of anywhere can leave forever! Oh and about Target, just keep in mind that we have been successfully brainwashed over decades to like them (like...I'm pretty sure there were subliminal messages in the ads).

    ReplyDelete
  31. I'm not part of the cool crowd either in that many of these things (sans the HIMYM and PB&J (which I ate every.single.day in 2nd grade, no jk) things) aren't on my like list. if my coffee doesn't look more like creamer than coffee, it's unacceptable, and this is a recent thing. no wine OR beer for me. and I hate reality TV in general. I just can't deal with stupidity in large quantities, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'm not a fan of coffee either. Love the smell. The taste? Ick. I get my caffeine from Diet Coke.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I can't seem to get into the Real Housewives either. Every time I turn it on it's just a bunch of arguing and one woman trying to yell over the other. Chaos! No thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I have not liked Target as much since I was a seasonal associate there. I didn't like the way they treated us "team members".
I drink much more hot tea than coffee now. I like the taste and it is cheaper. The better coffee is, the more expensive it often is.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I am definitely not a Nutella fan (BLECH is right!)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Well, you cannot go self-hosted on Blogger, but if you are not planning to do that, I agree that when you compare the free version of Wordpress, Blogger is much more user-friendly.

I love fresh flowers because I think every room needs a touch of green and I am terrible at keeping plants alive, so flowers help. But I dot't regularly splurge on expensive ones, because yeah, they eventually die and it feels like a waste of money. But so doea any other kidn of clutter that I buy and then never really use ;-)

I also really like The Big Bag Theory and find it hilarious, but it's a geek thing. Love me a geek :-D

I absolutely, 110% agree on pumpkin-flavored sweet things! Gross. And the Real Housewife shows. Please. It's like people voluntarily try to lose IQ points or something. Read Jane Austen's Emma, if you want a quirky hostess ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  37. PREACH about Wordpress. I don't get it. Why the big rush to go over there. It's more complicated to me... & you get the same look. I don't see any difference. I never look at a blog & think, "OHHHH - that's Wordpress"

    ReplyDelete
  38. i felt affronted several times reading this! nutella? how I met your mother??? I don't think I can read your blog any more! although I'm totally with you the real housewives and midi rings, so I guess it evens out :)

    ReplyDelete
  39. Ugh, painting my nails is just pointless, I always end of smudging them because they take far to long to dry! And real housewives, I am oh so glad that is not shown here!

    ReplyDelete
  40. I don't do the coffee thing either! Yuck and no thank you please!

    ReplyDelete
  41. I want to hug you over the Wordpress thing! I've been blogging on blogger FOR YEARS and I just never felt the need to switch. I think blogger blogs are just as pretty....if not as trendy. Midi Rings confuse me....like....you bought a ring...that doesn't fit your finger? Confused. Also Real Housewives anything makes me twitch. I hate all the shouting and anger...doesn't it stress people out to watch it?

    ReplyDelete
  42. I'm with you on most of the popular tv shows. I kind of feel out of the blogger loop because everybody chats about The Bachelor and PLL and I'm just sitting over here twiddling my thumbs.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Haha, so true about fresh flowers. Gimme all the clothes! Or chocolate. I always ask for chocolate in place of flowers for romantic gestures. But no PB&J?! Girl what. It's the ultimate salty/sweet combo!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Aww, I love The Big Bang Theory!

I hate Blogger because so many people have it set up so I can only comment using either my Google account or the Wordpress/OpenID thing which means I end up commenting under my blog name instead of my blogging alias. So trivial yet so annoying.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I hate peanut butter and jelly, Walking Dead, Real Housewives anything, midi rings are stupid and they just make my fingers hurt because they look uncomfortable, annnnnnd I am not a huge fan of wine either. Like I can drink it or whatever but it makes me tired. And there are just too many awesome flavored beers out there and yummy cocktails to force something I am not a fan of. Other things that are popular that I say nope? Bachelor/bachelorette and pretty much any other reality show except I do indulge in Chrissly Knows Best sometimes and maybe a little Kardashians but I haven't seen it in months so I can certainly live without it and think it is dumb how famous they are. Also made up words like yasss. Why is everyone saying that???

    1. Annnnnnd I used the wrong account for my comment so it will show no reply. Haha sorry!!!

  46. I like most of the things on this list; Real Housewives is not one of them, though, so if that makes me uncool, I can deal. Some of the things (Nutella, Big Bang Theory) I don't enjoy as much anymore. And fake tans? Well...I don't really have use for them haha.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Amen to Nutella, Target, and nail painting. Sorry but I love Real Housewives and I'm not ashamed to say it. Although I found this podcast that recaps episodes and it cracks me up. Now I'd actually rather just listen to two gay dudes mocking everything that happened than watch the actual show.

    ReplyDelete
  48. This is such a fun post! I actually am not a fan of a lot of the items you posted about as well. I do prefer peanut butter without jelly, I've never seen any episodes of anything Real Housewife and Target it overpriced and annoying to shop in most of the time!

    ReplyDelete
  49. I love this post. I mean Im a coffee drinker and I watch big bang but I feel you on a lot of this! Nutella really isnt that great ... neither is PB&J, i cant remember the last time I had one, and I have a pretty cute blogger site sooooo wordpress, maybe one day but today isnt that day.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I like some of these things but there are a lot of things I don't that make me decidedly uncool. Like pop music. I'm going to say it--I don't particularly care for Beyoncé. Or most popular shows like The Walking Dead or any reality show. Wine is the worst. I don't understand the infatuation with Starbucks holiday drinks. I could go on. I won't.

    ReplyDelete
  51. This is great. I love learning more about people, even though we are different in our opinions. I do love me some RHOanywhere gifs. They are amazing.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Okay so Bloglovin was being testy last week and didn't show me this when you posted it so sorry about the late comment!
I live for peanut butter. I hate jelly/jam. Nutella is whatever—I don't lose my mind over it like some people do but I'll eat it every now and then I guess. Can't think of the last time I had it though.
I think if you haven't acquired a taste for coffee by now you probably won't. No biggie, more for me.
I can't get on board with your Target thing though. And I'm not even a shopaholic! But I love, LOVE, love Target. Love it.
No Real Housewives or Walking Dead for me either, but I do like sitcoms. None as much as Friends though, for real.
Also, I'll be on Blogger as long as I possibly can. I have had to use Wordpress for work and I just don't love it. Especially for my personal blog, I don't want to hassle with it. Blogger is easy and I'll stay here as long as I can.

    ReplyDelete
  53. THIS POST! My goodness, I'm regretting my blogging hiatus right about now.
This post gave me life. Not gonna lie - I actually gasped over the coffee and wine part. Those are like two of my most favoritest things :) But I totally agree on Real Housewives, Wordpress and fresh flowers. Real Housewives just doesn't interest me beyond the hi-larious gifs; although I just switched from Blogger, Wordpress is a cluster-you-know-what of confusion to me that I haven't felt the need to figure out just yet and I have fake flowers throughout my apt because although I like fresh ones, I can't keep them alive to save my freaking life. :\
Also, I use to be the same way with painting my nails until I discovered Seche Vite top coat that has my nails dry in less than a minute. Life seriously made!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Goodness...we may be the same person for some of these. Nutella is disgusting. Coffee flavored anything is gross. I look like a child painted my nails when I try myself and gel paint is WAY to expensive. No thanks, skin cancer. And I've never even seen an episode of Real Housewives nor do I ever care to.

But I am on WordPress. When I switched I never realized it was because people thought it looked better. Most of the blog designs I like are on Blogger plus it's way cheaper to have someone design for Blogger. I read a scary post one time about how a blogger (who I can't even remember now) had pretty much lost her whole website and had to go through this crazy, long process to get it back up through Google. It scared me into switching plus Cory was already on WordPress for the websites he runs.

Probably WAY more information than you care to know but if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

    ReplyDelete
  55. I'm not down with pumpkin flavored shit, either. YUCK! And come fall, it's EVERYWHERE. No escape.
But... you're not in love with Target? I'm hurt. :( lol

    ReplyDelete
  56. I'm with you on Target..but mainly because there's not one nearby so even when I'm close to one I don't care...
And The Walking Dead I tried to get into but just couldn't...maybe one day I'll try again, but I'm enjoying Will and Grace for now...

    ReplyDelete
  57. hahaha i definitely agree with some of these! My boyfriend is british and he just doesn't get my love of peanut butter in general, so much less when I mix it with other stuff!
