If I had another month like March, I was going to be broke in no time, or using credit cards again, and definitely wouldn't have any money for Europe. Not to mention an unhappy husband, and really - an unhappy Kristen. I don't want to be that girl.
I have been working on my shopping issues for a long time, it seems. I have finally started to learn what looks good on me (in my opinion), what feels good and what I enjoy wearing. I have made smarter purchases over the last few months with the intention of one day being able to have a closet full of things that I love and actually wear. Problem was that in order to replace the clothes I didn't like, were falling apart, or looked horrible on me took time and money. But I think I am finally there. I have a solid work wardrobe, and enough 'fun' clothes to get me through the rare times I wear such clothes.
So without further ado, I present to you the things I bought in April:
- Nothing.
- Zilch.
- No clothes.
- No books.
- No house stuff.
- Really, no house stuff.
- No makeup.
- No shoes.
- No accessories.
- Nary a stitch fix.
- No online shopping.
- Plenty of window shopping.
- No 'it's only $10' justifications.
- No 'its 50% off! so I have to' justifications.
- Zip.
- Nada.
- Nothing but necessary groceries.
- Naught.
- Not a single purchase.
Plenty of self high fives though.
Cross that off your 30 before 30 and smoke it. Or something like that.
I did buy one thing using swagbucks amazon $$ (which I ended up returning anyway) and I did eat Jimmy Johns once but I didn't have anything else and I was starving. I would still say I succeeded though! What do you think?
That is awesome! I don't think I could do it! It will be so much better spent in Eurpoe!
ReplyDeleteSo proud of you!
ReplyDeleteWAY TO GO!!! Quite the rockstar :D Now just see if you can bring that mindfulness with you when you go to Europe... ;)
ReplyDeleteWow look at you go! How awesome is that especially right before a big trip. I'm going to let out a big YOU GO GIRL!
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday <3
This is awesome and a huge accomplishment - you should celebrate with some shopping!! J/k! But seriously, I'm super impressed and inspired - great job, girl! Have a great weekend! xoxo
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome! Good for you! Definitely self five!
ReplyDeleteGreat job girl!! I know it's been on your goal list for a while and I'm happy that you were able to cross that off! xo, Biana - BlovedBoston
ReplyDeleteYou go, girl!
ReplyDeleteWell look at you! Now I'm sure you want to buy ALL the things!!! ;-)
ReplyDeleteYOU DID IT!!! Congrats! That's awesome. And your credit cards thank you, too!
ReplyDeleteWOW. Like seriously wow. You are my hero. That is all.
ReplyDeleteawesome!! that's some serious will power. i can go months without buying anything fun (just house necessities like food etc) but then i'll get the itch and it's all i can do to not buy all the things.
ReplyDeletei'm impressed. i don't think i can go three days without spending money.
ReplyDeleteWhat?! You go girl!!! No spend months are hard, but they are so satisfying. YAY! That's so great. Proud of you!
ReplyDeleteGreat job! I have to admit, the eating out part is the headrest for me!
ReplyDeleteWow, that's some serious will power my friend! I did my budget last month and it was pretty shocking to see how all the little things add up. I probably need to go cold turkey...
ReplyDeleteNicely done! That takes some serious will power and planning! I am going to have to give it a try sometime!
ReplyDeleteWhat!! Impressive. I'm congratulating myself on not spending any money this week let alone in a month
ReplyDeleteYou. Are. Awesome. Such a good job!!!
ReplyDeleteThat is AMAZING!!! So impressive. I so need to do that.
ReplyDeleteYou are adorable haha - congrats!!!!!!!!! That is seriously amazing. I can't say the same for myself unfortunately, though I don't think I bought any clothes which is a plus. I went to the spa, paid a vet bill, ate out a lot more than I have since the beginning of 2015 (ugh), aaaand that's about it. And dog toys; I mean, the puppy is spoiled but that's ok :) A few minutes of peace is totally worth the $5 we spent on said toy...... hahaha
ReplyDeleteI say peace and it sounds like she's a terror - she's really not! It's more like a few minutes to myself because she loves to have us play with her and take her outside. She is lovely ;) hahaha
DeleteWay to go! You kicked ass!!!
ReplyDeleteI am SOOO impressed. I would be a bad friend - that IG pic where you found that Jane Austen cover book, I was thinking, Just get it!!! so proud of you!!!
ReplyDeleteholy crap good for you! I wish that's what my april looked like. I think I need to lock away my credit card for a month, it'd do me some good.
ReplyDeleteGOOD JOB!! so proud of you!
ReplyDeleteWooohoooo! Major success I'd say! Wow, so awesome! :)

That is amazing! I need a month like that. Badly...this month was so bad for me. Great job lady!!
ReplyDeleteWow, very impressive! I don't know if I can go one entire month without buying anything at all, but I try to keep more balanced and not overdo it... I mostly succeed. Sometimes not so much ;-)
ReplyDeleteYou rocked it my friend! I'm impressed.
ReplyDeleteI AM SO, SO, SO, SO PROUD OF YOU!! I know you wanted to do this and challenge yourself and you did so good. I'm so happy for you and stupid proud. (Maybe especially because I blew my budget by, like, a LOT this month, oops...) Can I get a CC update??
ReplyDeleteThat's super impressive!
ReplyDeleteWoohoooo!! You are so amazing and I am so proud of you! :)
ReplyDeleteKristen!!!!! This is huge!!! This is something I want (need?) to do for a month but I'm the worst and don't see how I could ever do it. I've completely blown my budget the last couple months (things really started to go downhill when we got our tax return, then we decided to go on vacation, plus I needed spring clothes....). If/when I decide to, I will probably need to text you every day for tips and moral support.
ReplyDeleteWoohoo!! That is awesome. Congrats to you!
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome lady! Way to go!!! I can't believe you even included eating out in that too - you're my role model ;) I need to work on the spending this month - all the cute summer clothes coming out and the warm weather has me itching to shop! xx Em
ReplyDeletebeauty blether
Um, HUGE virtual high five coming at you! Seriously inspired, this is my goal for May, I CAN do this :) That is so awesome!
ReplyDeletewow! That is pretty amazing! Hopefully you got to add to your savings account - especially since you were starving. LOL - I laughed when I got to that part... unless you were *really* starving.
ReplyDeleteI got my spending under control a while ago but last month I spent much more than I usually do or would even care to so I am going to have to jump on this for May!
Umm super high five girl! You have some super human restraint I swear! Now it's May, get yourself something to celebrate making it through April without buying anything! ;)

Ahhhhhh!!! Go you! Go you! Go you!!! That is some serious restraint girl!!! Across the south highest of high fives!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat is so incredibly impressive :) Good job!

HOLY SHIT. I was just thinking I should do that. It is May 1st. I can start tomorrow. Then I remembered I have the Glow Run and we are about to order shirts and glow stuff. So I am already over it. You are in INSPIRATION though, my friend.
ReplyDeleteI am incredibly impressed! I'm trying to learn to tell myself NO!, no matter how cheap it is or whether or not its on sale or whatever. We get wrapped up in this lie that if only we were to buy this one thing our closet would be complete and we would be happy but the next day even we want to go shopping again. (I could change all those we's to I's btw.) Truth is we probably have way more than we really need! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteHOLY COW! Way to go! I'm so impressed. You must teach me your ways!
ReplyDeleteWooHoo!! You totally rock!!! That should equal at least $200/$500/$1000....something to spend on your Europe trip!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat progress! Congrats!
ReplyDeleteUmmm SO impressed! I think the just no online shopping alone is a huge accomplishment without even thinking of the other stuff! Were you really wanting to buy things or were you not as tempted as you thought you'd be?
ReplyDeleteWooohoo!! That's amazing!!! Kudos to you :)
ReplyDeleteYou totally, succeeded, lady!!! High five from me, as well!
ReplyDeleteI wish I had willpower like that! Go on with your bad self!
ReplyDeleteWAY TO GO. That's seriously am impressive feat not excusing something on your spending freeze. It will be much better spent in Europe!
ReplyDeleteI am SERIOUSLY impressed!! I've definitely gone without spending money on unnecessary things some months but more out of necessity than anything else. I don't know if I could do it out of self infliction!! Good for you friend!
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome!!! And think of all that $$$ you'll have for Europe!!!
ReplyDeleteThat is amazing!! You totally kicked ass!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your successful no shopping month!!! That is a huge accomplishment and going out to eat once does not count.
ReplyDeleteHoly crap! I would say yes, that's a whopping success!! You definitely need to eat so that's justified, and swag bucks...I don't know what those are but 1) it sounds like it's not real money so how could that count? and 2) you returned it anyway and got your fake money back so it's the same as if you didn't shop in the first place. WAY TO GO!!!!
ReplyDeleteWow! That is really amazing. I should keep track of how much I spend in one month. I'm sure it's pretty scary!
ReplyDeleteWoo-hoo!! That is amazing! See the husband just needs to have a good trip for you on the books, and it brings shopping into perspective ;) Congrats on the great month and crossing off a goal!
ReplyDeleteThis is impressive! That is not an easy task. You rock!
ReplyDeleteyou rock! that is awesome! i'm on a ban of sorts, minus clothes for my beach trip.
ReplyDeleteThat's wonderful! I don't buy clothes often (books are my weakness, hence the book-buying ban), but I'm trying to be better about buying good quality pieces that will last, that I like, and that I know I'll wear. It feels like such a waste to look in the closet six months later and realize you never wear something.
ReplyDeleteUmmm I am late to the game but that is awesome!!! Congrats love!
