We started bright and early - last year we were up ridiculously early but we weren't out the door as early as we wanted, and this year because we wanted to bring chairs and whatnot (only one gate allows you to enter with chairs), we wanted to get there early to avoid the insane line. I can't remember what time we got there- before 10am maybe? There was no line. It was amazing. We went straight to the infield (stopping to get my first bud light, of course) to set up camp and then wandered around, checking out the grounds, the outfits, the hats etc. It didn't get crazy busy until after noon, and when it did, you could barely move. It was record breaking attendance!
We took lots of photos, watched a lot of people, talked to a few random people, helped a few drunk people that apparently had no friends to look after them, drank a few bud lights and a couple of Oaks Lilys, danced at the Vineyard Vines tent, placed a few bets (Megan, not me), walked around a bunch.. I mean, that's all there is to Derby, really. It's not a bad thing - like I said, it's one of my favourite parts of living in Kentucky.
It was an absolutely beautiful day, couldn't have asked for nicer weather. So, picture overload, shall we? I'll warn you - it's lots of me and Megan, and lots of selfies. Would you expect anything less?
FYI Megan made both of our fascinators - we got complimented and asked a zillion times, and several people said she needed to sell them. My dress (and necklace) are from Rent The Runway. My sunnies were $5 and they are the bomb (price changes all the time). Megan's romper is adorable but it's sold out, but here is the exact one in a different print. Hair and makeup done by Megan (duh!). You don't really want the boys outfit details do you? Just kidding.
There
you have it, another Derby in the books. Probably the best one yet.
Have you ever been to the races? Is Derby on your bucket list?
I'm not going to lie, my jealousy that you ladies get to go to the Derby is pretty up there! You both look amazing! Those facinators... perfection! And the weather really was amazing. While watching it all day I think I said "I can't believe how pretty the weather is there today" like 10 times! Glad you had an amazing time and maybe I'll join you one day!

You guys are ridiculously adorable! Those fascinators are amazing, and you both look like you had a good time! The Derby is on my bucket list for sure!!
ReplyDeleteLove your outfit and all of the pictures that you took! The Derby is definitely one of the things on my bucket list so I'm pretty jealous that you get to go all of the time. Glad you had an awesome day!
ReplyDeleteYou girls look fabulous! How fun that you get to go to such an amazing event every year (bucket list item for me for sure!) And she did an incredible job on your fascinators, I agree she needs to sell them :)
ReplyDeleteWow you guys definitely took a ton of pics! You both look amazing!! Love your dress and necklace!!! So cute!
ReplyDeleteYou gals look gorgeous! The outfits, the hair and most certainly the fascinators are completely on point!! She does need to sell them! The Derby seems like such a fun experience - I hope I can go one day! xoxo
ReplyDeleteI've never really wanted to do this until seeing your pictures, haha! Both of you looked gorgeous and perfectly color-coordinated :) Megan definitely needs to sell those fascinators! I want one just because haha.
ReplyDeleteOne of my very best friends helped with the photography for the derby and she said the same thing - that this was the best year yet. Glad you had a great time! You gals looked great!
ReplyDeleteHave you ever been to Keeneland in (around?) Lexington? My friends who went to UK rave about it :)
ReplyDeleteAMAZING!! Love the outfits, the fascinators!! (Of course I was going to ask where you got them - wow, go Megan!!), and your hot pink mani is perfection too!! And um....I'm jealous of Megan's tan. If she has a favorite sunless tanner please have her share the deets. You have to keep this tradition alive until you have a good excuse NOT to go (like...babies or something that gets in the way). It's just too fun and the pictures are priceless.
ReplyDeleteWOW she MADE those herself? That is amazing, they are perfect! Looks like you had an absolute blast!
ReplyDeleteThat is SO awesome that you got to go to the Derby! Hubs and I were in Austin, but went to a bar to watch it live. I've only been to one legit horse race, Foxfields in Virginia. It was an absolute preppy sh*t show! Is the Derby like that, too? I see you wore flip flops. I was one of the few women in flats - I remember all of them in heels or wedges and I was like, "What?! We're walking on grass and drinking, ladies! Think ahead. Think ahead!"
ReplyDeleteLove this!!! Such PERFECT weather! I'm officially coming down for The Derby next year - Nick and I have been saying this for like 3 years but next year I'm making it happen!
ReplyDeleteSo fun. I love all of the cute pictures, so great to have a bestie tradition. I haven't been but would love to go someday. Even if just for the novelty of dressing up. :) That's so amazing that she made them!! I agree, she should totally sell them on Etsy! She could pass out business cards at the derby when people ask. :) XO -Alexandra

ReplyDeleteShe made those?! That's fantastic, they look amazing. I miss the Derby, it's been awhile since I've gone. Well, two years. Seems longer.

ReplyDeleteI love your dress!! That fascinator is fantastic!!! Such great pictures!! One day I hope to go to the derby. So fun.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful ladies! Saw some of these on your IG. So glad you had a great time!
ReplyDeleteLove those glasses your wearing! I can't believe they are only $5. They wouldn't fit my face but look great on you! I also can't believe she made those fascinators and did your HMU. Talented.
ReplyDeleteI think it's awesome you guys go every year and you adorable and like you're having so much fun. My husband wants to go so badly. I'm not sure how I feel. I am terrified of horses and I'd stress too much being in the same place as them. On purpose.
ReplyDeleteOdds are at the Kentucky Derby - in the infield, you wont ever even SEE a horse :)
DeleteI was going to ask where you got those fascinators - they are AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Like crazy beautiful. I bet she could sell those around Derby time for HUNDREDS!
ReplyDeleteGlad you didn't get sunburned in that weather!!!
HOW did you 2 get a picture of doing into the tunnel with no one around & no one in the stands? I'm impressed.
You guys look great. Did you make those hats yourself or you bought them?
ReplyDeleteSo jealous!!! Looks like an amazing day and you all look adorable!! Love love love the fascinators!

ReplyDeleteThis looks like a blast! What a fun tradition with your bestie. Y'all both look absolutely gorgeous! Love both of your outfits. I can't believe she made the fascinators. So pretty! I've never been to a horse race but looks like I should add that to my bucket list!
ReplyDeleteOh how fun!!! You both look gorgeous in your outfits!!!! Love the little hats and your hair!!! I have never been to the derby but it would be fun to go once! I wonder if I could pull off a hat...I doubt it.

ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, so much fun! I love your dress and I'm obsessed with her romper! Probably the stupidest question, but do you set up your chairs and leave them while you walk around and no one takes your spot?? Or does someone have to stay with the chairs? I would love to go one day!
ReplyDeleteLooks like so much fun!! And you both look fabulous! I've never been to any horse races before. There was a big one by me in QLD, but of course I was too young back then.
ReplyDeleteThe flowers are giving me life right now! So gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteI love the picture overload. I love that you were so well coordinated. I love the fascinators (yes, she should sell them). I question why you started drinking full strength budweiser - blech! Looks like a great time. You know what? I've never been to the races here. Guess I need to change that, huh?
ReplyDeleteOmg so much fun!!! I would love to go to the Kentucky Derby one time! You both look so gorgeous too! Loving the hats and outfits!

ReplyDeleteYou both look gorgeous! Those fascinators were the first thing I noticed. I'll definitely buy one from her next year! Looks like y'all had so much fun!
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize you could buy tickets to the derby until this year. I always thought you had to be some big wig. Definitely on the bucket list. It looks like you guys had such a fun time with this tradition and I love your outfits - they were perfect for the derby! She should definitely sell the fascinators!

ReplyDeleteYou guys look awesome!!!!! You ladies are gorgeous and how cool to be living so close to this. I wish I could put on a fascinator and a pretty dress and go to the Derby!
