A few weeks ago, I saw people posting maps of the US with the states that they had been to. So I posted my own, and I knew I had been to 22 states (plus DC) but actually putting it on the map made me feel like I'd not accomplished that much. I mean, I know I have done more than most Americans and certainly more than most Australians, but I feel like I've travelled quite a bit and don't have the stamps on the map to prove it.
I kinda want to get this notebook to document my travelling through the States, but I honestly don't know if I'll ever go to all of them or if I want to.. or rather if my travelling partner will want to or if we can afford it. Lots of ors. I think maybe I want to at least get to where I have been to more than half. Also, technically, I have been to more than 22. Most of my travelling was done in 2009 on my first trip to the US and it was such a whirlwind that I have trouble remembering it all.
Alabama - technically I have been here. When I came to America in 2009 I did this big 3 week tour and we arrived at a campsite somewhere in Alabama, had dinner and hung out, went to sleep and left the next morning. I don't count it because I literally didn't see or do anything outside of the campsite.
Alaska
Arizona - I went to Arizona in 2009 including the Grand Canyon. Tons o Fun and I would love to go back.
Arkansas
California - I went here in 2011 with my Mum and we met up with KC and his Mom at Disney. We also drove around LA to see the sites, Hollywood and such. I'd love to go back, specifically to San Fran & San Diego.
Colorado
Connecticut
Delaware
Florida - I have been to Disney World twice. I really want to go back to do the Princess Half Marathon (probably Feb 2016). Of course there is so much more to Florida than Disney, and I'd love to see it.
Georgia
Hawaii - I went to Hawaii with my mum and it was great except KC happened to break up with me and it kinda killed the vibe. I still managed to do lots and have a good time, though I'd love to go back to make some better memories. It is so expensive though.
Idaho
Illinois - The very first city I went to in America was Chicago (not including LAX of course). I saw Rascal Flatts and did some shopping. Other than that, we go to a small town in Illinois at least twice a year because KC has family there.

Indiana - Indy is right across the river so I have been here a couple times. Hubers Winery & Football games mainly.
Iowa
Kansas
Kentucky - I've been here a couple times...
Louisiana - In 2009 we went to New Orleans and a smaller town that I don't remember the name of. A few people went on a swamp tour and we went to a local coffee shop where they were playing the weirdest instruments I've ever seen and made us dance with them. They were the friendliest people I've ever met and wish I could remember the name or had taken photos. We walked from one end of the town to the other in 15 minutes. Small. New Orleans was SOFUN but I would love to go back and be less drunk and remember more.
Maine - Went here recently with the girls. Kind of. In the boat. I count it. Ok, I'm counting it for all the states that I've kinda gone to.
Maryland - We stayed in Maryland the first time I went to DC in 2009. We did stuff, I just barely remember it.
Massachusetts - Boston and Salem, yay!
Michigan
Minnesota
Mississippi - I think we drove through here. Not sure.
Missouri
Montana

Nebraska
Nevada - Vegas! Been to Vegas 3 times, I love it. So much more than gambling and drinking.
New Hampshire - This is where our friend lives that we went to visit recently, so we spent most of our time here.
New Jersey - Technically I have been here. When we went to NYC in 2009, our tour ended here and most people stayed here. We hung out for a few hours, ate at a Burger King then caught the bus to NYC. We spent like 2 hours in NYC then I went to my hotel and crashed.
New Mexico - I don't remember much, except it was really hot and had lots of pretty shops. We went to Santa Fe.
New York - I spent like 14 hours in the city in 2009, 10 of those in my hotel room so.... yeah. We went back in December and it was amazing.
North Carolina
North Dakota
Ohio - At the end of my trip in 2009 I went to Columbus on my own to see Rascal Flatts again (don't judge) and do some more shopping. I was so worn out I spent most of my time in the hotel, eating. I have since been back to Cincy (KC's and my 'first date') and just outside Cincy to see Bill Burr with KC.
Oklahoma
Oregon
Pennsylvania - When I came to America in 2011 with my mum, her requirements were Vegas, Disney and Toby Keith. He was going to have 2 shows in PA that fit in our dates, so there we went. York and .. somewhere else I don't remember except I wore thongs (flip flops) and it was freaking freezing, something about a mountain. Mum had fun and we had great tickets for Toby both times, but our hotel was the worst I've ever stayed in and we had massive issues with rental cars.

Rhode
Island
South Carolina
South Dakota
Tennessee - I have been to Tennessee 4 times, technically. Knoxville (we stopped to eat), Nashville (2010), Nashville (2012), Gatlinburg (2013).
Texas - I loved Texas. The people were so friendly here. I did get ridiculous, embarrassingly, alcohol poisoningly drunk and it was pretty sucky but other than that, a great time. We went to San Antonio.
Utah - I don't remember much except we went horse riding here and I almost got thrown off the horse because a rattlesnake scared the horse and the guy shot the snake. Scary.
Vermont
Virginia
Washington
West Virginia - I remember the campsite and going white water rafting (SO FUN) and the super hot guy who was our guide. So fun.
Wisconsin - KC and I drove up here for a Green Bay game and it was the coldest I've ever been. It was fun, but I still can't pronounce the state.
Wyoming
South Carolina

Phew! Why do you all have so many states?! When we got back from NYC, KC suggested San Fran for our trip next Christmas.. I about lost my mind. 1) he never suggests travel ever and 2) SAN FRAN!! Not sure if we will actually go, but we'll see. I think I'd rather go to that side of the country in the summer, because it would be nicer weather and we'd have more time.
Where should I go that I haven't been?
This is so fun! Yay for Cincy and Florida! Next time you're in FL you definitely have to let me know! :) And I'll do the same when I go back to Cincy! And I agree, love Hawaii but OMG is it expensive!!

Sequins & Sea Breezes
You have seen way more of the states than I have! And San Fran, yes go I love it there!
ReplyDeleteHow fun! I've also traveled quite a bit in the States and have all but a handful at this point. Of course I have an entire life of traveling in America so I've got a leg up on you for now lol
ReplyDeleteyou;ve definitely been to more states than most americans! i've been to all of them, with the bulk of that from road trips to see states!
ReplyDelete... you've definitely been to more states than I have, and I've lived here my entire life. I'm impressed! But seriously, you need to get a Carolina (or two!) checked off on your list!
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed it here in NY. You have to go to Alaska...It is incredible!
ReplyDeleteWow! You certainly have seen and done a lot in the US! After our huge 3 month road trip I feel like I have too - now I want to make myself one of these maps too so I can see it before me! X
ReplyDeleteHaha, few of us get to go through a break up in Hawaii let me tell you! So at least there is that. Cool pictures! Which is your favorite place in US so far?
ReplyDeletethis is awesome. i've always wanted to go to portland, oregon...heard it's so amazing there. how about visiting your friends up north? :D we canucks are a friendly bunch.
ReplyDeleteOf course, I am biased, but you have to visit Georgia. In my opinion, you should skip Atlanta (not really GA) and come straight to Savannah. I would happily act as your tour guide. ;)
ReplyDeleteYou're putting my US travel to shame! So awesome that you've made it to so many states already, and you must make that San Fran trip happen...it's one of my very favorite cities!
ReplyDeleteHell yes you love Texas! You need to get yourself to the rest of the Southeast, they're also the friendliest, greatest people to meet. Go ahead and skip Minnesota, unless it's June, July or August. Seriously.
ReplyDeleteI've lived in the US my entire life and you're doing WAY BETTER than me!! I've basically never been anywhere! This inspires me though!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun idea for a post! you've done an amazing job only living in the US for part of your life. Mad props, lady!
ReplyDeleteNo love for Delaware? :'( Just kidding. I can't think of anything spectacular enough to make it worth a visit if you didn't have another reason to come here. That's too bad that the breakup had to happen during your Hawaii trip. I was in a couple of unstable relationships and I swear, every time I was on vacation with my family was the time my boyfriends decided it was time to have ALL THE ISSUES RIGHT NOW. And there was one time that my job put me on probation and I quit, so I was all upset and stressed in Disney World, trying to hide it so I didn't have to argue with my dad about whether or not I did the right thing. No bueno.
ReplyDeleteI'm collecting pictures of license plates! Much easier than visiting every single state. I actually got both Hawaii and Alaska right here in my home state (although I've visited them both, also). Only 3 to go!
P.S. Omg, that rattlesnake story! That is insane!!!
DeleteFun post girly!! Love going to Cincy for Reds games. You should definitely add Colorado to your short list - preferably in the summer. I lived there for 3 years and I LOVED it!
ReplyDeleteLove this post! You've been to a lot of the states, I think you have me beat by a few! I also count the ones I've driven through or whatever, because hey, you were technically there even if you didn't stay! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat no Virginia? Girl, put that on your short list!!! I am super impressed with all the photo skills along the way!!
ReplyDeleteThis is a neat idea. I think I've been to about as many as you have been. I would like to go to all of them!
ReplyDeleteIt's on my 'Bucket List' to do Disney's Princess Half! I've never been to Disney so it would be perfect. I seriously can't believe how much of the US you've seen! If you ever make it to North Dakota (not sure why you would though... haha) I'm just a stones throw away! Well, 20 minutes anyway! lol
ReplyDeleteWhat an absolutely fantastic post idea!!! I loved this especially since you had pictures that went along with each state! I think you should add to your FL picture collection....just saying ;-)
ReplyDeleteWell you definitely have been to the good ones! haha although Alaska looks amazing and as someone who lives in the north, I'd say it's a must. I should do the same thing with a map of Canada, although 10 provinces and 3 territories is a heck of a lot easier :)
ReplyDeleteLOL @ why do we have so many states. I think you'll find unless you live there, most of us have not been to a lot of states in the middle of the country.
ReplyDeleteWere you at Pocono Mountain/Penn's Peak in PA?
That is such a fun map!! My parents did a good job when I was growing up to take lots of family summer trips, so we got around to a lot of the states. I think you should come to Kansas City, Missouri! You could hit two states pretty easily. I promise it's not like what you've heard. Maybe western Kansas is all open prairie, but as long as you stay around Kansas City, it's pretty happening:) San Francisco would be a great trip to take!
ReplyDeleteI will go everywhere with you. You know my 50 states mission... and I've got 12 down. I have a few being crossed off this year (like Kentucky! :)) but still plenty to go. Seriously, pick a place and a date. I'm there with you. (Bonus if it's on the Atlantic coast because then it's a road trip and road trips are the best.) Also come visit me and cross New Jersey off your list for real real.
ReplyDeleteI feel like that's actually quite a few states, especially considering you've only been here for a while! :) Oh my goodness, that Utah story. Welcome to the US! Ha, what are gun laws like in Australia? I haven't been to a fair lot of the ones that you have. For the most part, my map would be a diagonal strip from AZ up to Massachusetts. Slowly expanding outward. I've been to 22 so far, I'm not counting the airport in GA, or anyplace we've driven through but not stopped to do something. This summer we go to Florida. And I hope this fall we can go out to San Francisco as well, we have friends there and they have been dying for us to come visit! I would love to go back to Boston and visit more friends also in the fall (not happening haha) and go to Salem. I just feel like fall would be so great there. I really love the great lakes states, Minnesota and Michigan (& wisconsin) are really really pretty. And everyone is really friendly up there. We went to Macinac Island which was fun. I would love to go back up there to the lakes. We've been to MNPLS a bunch of times and love it there too. If you ever want to road trip through the middle of the country let me know! KC (Kansas City that is... ;) ) is a blast, St. Louis is also pretty fun. We also like Omaha, NE for weekend trip type stuff. Colorado is really lovely. I would love to go back. :) And of course go back to NOLA! I'm so glad we did (obviously). I'm also trying to check off more Canadian Provinces... but I just want to go back to the same ones again... hehe slowing my progress! Your post makes me want to go to Vegas and DC for sure. & I really want to go to Maine. :) XO -Alexandra
ReplyDeleteSimply Alexandra: My Favorite Things
considering you've only been in the states a handful of years, you are doing pretty great! now I want to go count to see how many I've been too, it may not be many more than you haha
ReplyDeleteYou have been to so many places!!! I love this map and looking at all of your pictures!
ReplyDeleteMelanie @ meandmr.com
When you're at Hubers, you're about 15 minutes away from me :)
ReplyDeleteDon't feel bad - I'm FROM here & I haven't been to that many states :)
I think you've done way more traveling than I have not even living in the US your entire life! haha I'm obsessed with your dresses, especially the one you wore when you were in NH! Tell me about Vegas! I've never been and my husband doesn't know if I would care for it, but there's something that makes me really want to visit.
ReplyDeleteYou've been to a ton of states and definitely put me to shame! I've been slowly trying to do small trips throughout the states to cross some more off my list.
ReplyDeleteOmg- your first date was in Cincy?!?! COME BACK! Relive it! Visit me!!! ;) Loved this post and the breakdown of what you've done/seen in each state. I think I've been to around 22 as well, but hoping to conquer the Northwest and Northeast eventually!
ReplyDeleteYou have been to quite a few places. I have driven through a lot of states but didn't stop in a lot of them. I would say o to North Carolina, i had a blast there!
ReplyDeleteWow! I've only been to 5 states but do plan to see more! Although I am Canadian and should probably see more of my own country first haha.
ReplyDeleteThis is a fun idea...I might have to steal it. I did one of those maps and it definitely didn't look like I felt it should!
ReplyDeleteSorry your PA experience was terrible...I'm from central PA..if it's not June, July, or August, there is usually the potential for it to be freezing :/
You have been to quite a few states for not being from here!!! I love it! And I loved seeing your visit to eat!! Let's get Alabama back on the radar and make it count for you!!! And I can take you to Atlanta (2 hour drive from my house) while you are here and cross Georgia off that list too, ok?!
ReplyDelete22 is definitely an impressive number of states seen! You are almost halfway there! It is absolutely one of my life goals to visit every state. Also, love your dress from the NH picture..its so cute!
ReplyDeleteOREGON!!! :):) This is a ton of states. I'll have to play!
ReplyDeleteSuch a fun post! Loving the hand grenades in your NOLA pic, I definitely need to go back there! I may be stealing this post idea from you ;-)
ReplyDeleteThis is a seriously impressive list, especially for never even having been to the US 6 years ago! I have no idea how many states I've been to, but I know it isn't 22. And there are some I went to when I was younger that I don't feel like count because I haven't been as an adult. I hope you do go to San Fran for your next trip because that sounds amazing! And btw you know Virginia is like...RIGHT there, right? ;)
ReplyDeletewell this is the coolest post! so awesome you've been to so many! I think you need to come back to Texas :)
ReplyDeleteI've been to 31 +DC. Some were way better than others:)
ReplyDeleteFun to read your list of when and where you have traveled in the states!!
In my humble opinion, you are completely missing out by never having been to the northwest! The clean air, mountains, & national parks are spectacular!
ReplyDeleteWOW!! You have been to a lot of states! Maybe even more than me!! I might need to go try to see how I stack up! And if you have only been to LA, you definitely need to go back to California. I'm probably a lot biased because I have lived in SF and SD, but they are superior to LA. :) I also think you would really enjoy Seattle (in the summer only!) so definitely keep Washington on your list!
ReplyDeleteThat book is an awesome idea, I wish they'd do a similar one for the UK as I'd have more chance of filling something in! I still have yet to make it over the pond to the US, which I'm dying to do. Just need a good excuse... And I vote YES San Fran!
ReplyDeleteLove this!! Now I want to see how many states I have been to! I went to most of them when I was younger, like the Grand Canyon and stuff! I want to experience it again as an adult! You definitely have done a lot for a born Aussie!

Upbeat Soles
1- I'm totally doing this blog post I love it!!!
ReplyDelete2- Wasn't Hawaii just beautiful?!
3- I had not visited nearly as many states as you, I am jealous!
I love that you're wearing MN Vikings gear despite never having been to MN. May I suggest you go this summer in June or July while I'm there? LOL. I love this post idea.
ReplyDeleteI love the part where you say "I LOVED Texas"! Come to Dallas and visit!
ReplyDeleteThis is SO awesome! I want to go to more places around the States, but at the moment, we're working our way through Far East Asia, haha. I had a one night layover in Hawaii and I fell in love with it. Now I just need to go back and stay there for longer so I can experience it all!
ReplyDeleteAh I love this. Ive been to a few states, NYC, Mass, California, Florida, Virginia, Connecticut, and Penn but I want to visit soon many more!!
ReplyDeleteI don't know where to suggest you go but Cali is gorg and I myself want to go to San Fran or San Diego some day.
You've done very, very well! I've traveled a bit, but I was on a roll there for about 10 years where I'd go to Europe instead of traveling in the US. I think I've done 26-28 states. Out of the states you haven't been to, I'd say DEFINITELY Colorado. Even if you don't ski. Sitting in the midst of the Rockies with a hot toddy in hand is one of my favorite places I've ever been.
ReplyDeleteI think it's awesome that you've seen so much of the US...honestly probably more than I have!! Now I want to see what I need to go and see! xo, Biana - BlovedBoston
ReplyDeleteOh, I love this! I might just have to steal this idea, girly…if you don't mind, of course lol I've been to SO many states, but I barely ever reflect on my time there.
ReplyDeleteYou've definitely been to more states than most Americans I know (including me!). I've been to a lot of those states but some of them, I'm still itching to visit (New Orleans, Oregon, and Alaska mainly). San Francisco is AMAZING! I hope you do end up going. You'll love it :D
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great idea for a post! I think I'm right around 22 states too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun post! Mine would be pretty sad, I haven't been to many haha. If you ever plan to add Oklahoma to your list, make sure and let me know ;)
ReplyDeleteWow! Not bad. I'm at 18, although a couple were just states I've driven through and one where I've only been to the airport
ReplyDeleteI love this list. Are you both wearing MN Vikings shirts in one of those pictures? That makes me so curious :)
ReplyDeleteYou are definitely an accomplished traveler! A thousand times better than me within Canada (or the US.... combined!) I've only been to two provinces out of 13 (including the one I live in, shhhhh)?! And I drove to Florida once as a kid so I count all of the states that we drove through... totally. But "visited" would only be like 4-5? There are a bunch of places I'd love to see: New Orleans, Vegas/Grand Canyon, San Fran, Colorado.... many more!! :)
ReplyDeleteNot gonna lie, I immediately stopped after Florida and scrolled to comment becausssseeeeeee I am totally planning on doing the Glass Slipper Challenge in Feb 2016 at DW! If you run it, you should let me know and we could meet up, because there's nothing like meeting strangers from the internet who both blog in real life!
ReplyDeleteI love this! I always think I've been to a lot of States but you beat me (18). I didn't count the ones I drove through but don't remember doing anything significant in them. Now I know where I need to go.
ReplyDeleteYOu've been so many places! I need to really get out and explore.
ReplyDeleteWhat small town in Illinois do you go to? You are very well traveled so far especially for not living in this country your entire life! Keep it up!
ReplyDeleteIf I did that it would be so lame because I've only been to a handful of states. I hope I get to check out more, though.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun recap!! You've been to a lot of states!! You should come to San Diego during the winter because we have really nice weather still (for the most part)! I have not been to San Francisco, it is most likely our next "bigger" trip. I want to go when it is a bit warmer. P wants to do Hawaii but I think San Francisco first.
ReplyDeleteYou've definitely been to more places than me and I've lived here my whole life. And now I have to take that quiz!
ReplyDeleteI loved this! You've been to lots of fun places! What state (that you haven't been to before) is the one you want to go to next? :)
ReplyDeleteWow! That's actually a lot compared to mine! I grew up in Hawaii and never really realized how expensive it really is until I moved away! Yikes!
ReplyDelete
