February Results / March Goals

So, thank jeebus February is over. For a birthday month, it's kinda sucky. I blame it on the whole living in America thing, because February is Summer at home and we all know Summer is the best.

I definitely did not do the best on my goals, just putting it out there. Regarding my 2015 goals, I did my thankful post, finally posted the positivity post but overall wasn't the nicest to myself, I donated stuff to goodwill but at the last minute... Yeah, kinda fell off all the wagons in February.

February's theme was 'create'. Here's how I did:

- Create the base for a capsule wardrobe - nope

- DIY something small, like 'artwork' - nope

- I want to sew something - nope

- Make 5 new to me recipes again - nope

- Pay off that dang credit card - you guys. This goal first popped up in my 'rest of year goals' aka November, but I had been trying to pay it off for some time. But not really trying, otherwise I would have paid it off. Continuing shopping and getting starbucks was not trying very hard. November, December, January..... February. Boom. Finally.

But it's not over. 2015 is the year I pay them all off - unfortunately I have more than one. Ain't no big deal, one at a time. My ultimate goal is to pay them off and keep just one open to use and pay the balance monthly (for airline miles). Baby steps!

Life According to Steph

For my 2015 goals I need to:

- do something with my time or money besides Rosa's or goodwill.
- make a large dent in another credit card, like at least 25%.
- spring clean my house and closet aka purge a lot of shit.
- make two new to me recipes.
- alter the things in the 'to alter' pile (at least 2 pairs of pants and 1 skirt).

March's theme is relationships. My goals are simple this month:

 - Do something with KC at least once a week.
We do stuff all the time, but more often than not we sit at our own computers and relax in our own worlds. I want to make it a point to do something - whether it's go for a walk, make a meal and eat it together, watch a documentary.. whatever. I just want to do something.

- Call mum and nana at least once each.
For someone who says she misses her family, she sure doesn't call them enough. It's cheap and easy - I have no excuse. I know once doesn't seem like a lot but I email my mum literally (literally) every day. Right now I probably talk to my mum or nana on birthdays and that's it.. pretty bad. So once a month is a step up.

- Work on my relationship with myself.
I think we all know I have issues, and I'm over it. As of right now, I don't have issues anymore. March is going to be the month of doing more of what I actually want to do and loving myself. I have specific goals, but I don't particularly want to share because they aren't goals I want to meet just to meet, if that makes sense. Baby steps is my new motto. That, and don't break the chain.

What are you working towards this month / year?

  1. love your honesty on what did/didn't happen goal-wise. you're human. it's happens!

i only talked on the phone with my dad on my birthday, so now that he's dying, that's one thing i regret. call your loved ones. i think once a month is plenty.

  2. In my mind Feb was a short month so it made it harder to achieve those goals! But at least its the beginning of the year, the weather should start getting better and all of the rest of the months are longer so it should be easier to get those goals accomplished! I think all of your March goals are attainable and youre going to kill it this month!!

  4. Yay for paying off that card and I love your goals for this month. I understand the phone thing, I'm the worst at picking up the phone too - ugh!

  5. Awesome job on the credit card! I think that completely overshadows all the other ones that might not have gone as well. And oh! I finally wrote a letter to my grandma last month, and I felt pretty good about that until last night when I was rummaging through my purse and the letter was still in there! I don't know why I didn't make it to the mailbox, but I fixed that this morning. :-/

I love relationship with yourself as a goal! That didn't even occur to me or I might have added "do less stuff" to my list. I am close to the burn out point. I also kind of want to take the Self Love course by Gala Darling, but I keep putting it off because it's one more thing to do and one more thing to pay for.

  6. Congrats on getting one credit card paid down! I only have one but it has waaay to high of a balance for my liking!

I need to work on relationships too - I always tell friends that we need to get together soon but never make any concrete plans to actually make it happen. I think I'll have to add that to my April goals!

  7. Paying off debt isn't easy and not something everyone wants to tackle, so good for you for making it a priority!

  8. SUPPORT when it comes to baby steps. i think most of us quit when we take on the whole list at once, get overwhelmed and then ditch it.

credit card debt sucks big hairy ones. congrats to getting rid of one.... continue to do that for the others and you'll be debt free in no time!

  9. Paying off a card is huge. Congratulations!

Great goals for March. I'm glad to see yourself on there - I think we should all always be working on our relationship with ourselves!

  10. Congrats on the credit card! It's such an amazing feeling! I just did that with my smaller one after I got my tax refund. I'm "trying" with my big one but like you said, not trying real hard... Good luck on your March goals. I totally feel ya on the saying you miss home but not calling nearly enough.

  11. Whoohoo on the credit card payoff! When I was a financial advisor, the best thing I ever heard (and told all my clients) was this:

"Credit cards: Your personal plastic passport to poverty"

Which is so true if you don't pay them off every month and rack up those 27% interest rates! We pay our bills with an airline card and pay it off every month. And you know what? We never pay for flights anywhere! It's awesome. Love the goal with your hubs! We need to work on that ourselves...

  12. I had to watch that Baby gif about ten times!!!! Okay, way to go on paying off one of your CCs! That's exciting! I also love the goal about doing something together with your husband. I think that's an important one for building a strong marriage!

  13. haha I've definitely had months when I completely dropped the ball. It's okay, I just try harder the next month....or I do it again. haha! I watched that baby video like 5 times and laughed harder each time. haha poor lil guy

I am on an enforced purging/cleaning spree since we're moving soon.

  15. Those gifs are all so much yes. I am so proud of you for paying off that card, doing something that feels that good, and having that motivate you forward. I love your goals for March and I'm positive you're going to do an awesome job with them. Especially the self-love one. I know you're going to be a rockstar. Because you deserve it so, so much. Forgive yourself for a tough February (we all have those months!) and look ahead to an awesome month. Woo!

  16. CONGRATS on paying off a credit card, that is HUGE! We were able to pay one off at the beginning of this year, isn't it such an amazing feeling?? But we definitely have more than one so we've got a long way to go. As you say, baby steps! Love your relationship goals, those are awesome!!

  17. So so so happy that you paid off one of your credit cards - it's the best feeling!! Spring cleaning is the best - seriously I feel like a new person when I've cleaned the house and got rid of stuff lol! xo, Biana - BlovedBoston

  18. Random, but I love how honest you always are no matter what. Congrats on the pay off, that is awesome! Honestly, I don't have a lot of goals this year besides doing things that make me happy and truly trying to enjoy my friends & family and all the little things in life.

  19. YESSSS! I had a credit card that I got myself in trouble with when I was in college (why do they give credit cards to 18 year olds? Stupid stupid stupid). I took nearly every penny from my first real job and PAID THAT SUCKER OFF and it FELT SO DAMN GOOD! I haven't had a credit card since. My husband has a few, and I'm looking forward to saying FAREWELL to those too!

  20. I am so happy for you about the credit card! Doesn't it feel like such a huge relief?

I think working on relationships is awesome, that's a great goal for a month! :)! That picture made my heart smile, is that bad? The kid is so cute!

  23. One thing at a time. You can check that card off the list and keep on moving down the list. I failed on a few this winter already too and it's almost Spring!

    ReplyDelete
  24. so proud of you for paying off that first credit card! doesn't it feel SOOO good?! can't wait to see where that momentum takes you!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Congrats on paying off that first card!!!

I have call my parents and grandma on my list, too. I'm terrible about it and since I have no time to visit, this is the least I can do.

  26. Congrats on paying off the card! The baby meme is too cute! Relationships with ourselves is so important! Great goals!

  27. Congrats on paying off the card, that is a huge check mark to be proud of!! March is a new month, onward and upward, right :) Your March goals are awesome and hopefully they will make March a less sucky month :)

  29. There is nothing better than the feeling of knocking out a chunk of debt! Cannot wait to do the same with some of the proceeds from our house. That is HUGE and cheers to you, lady! :)

  30. Congrats on the credit card!
I have to say I love how honest you are with everything and what you set as goals. I can't wait to see you accomplish them this month!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I would say paying off that credit card makes up for anything else that you didn't accomplish! And February is a hard month here in America at least, its the end of winter but usually the cokdest , snowiesr month and we're all just over it, but its not quite ready to end! I think with Spring right around the corner we will all be reinvigorated with energy and ready to tackle all of our goals! Good luck girl! And nice job!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Paying off the credit card totally trumps anything else! Good job! I hate talking on the phone and even though my family doesn't live around the world, I rarely call them. I do get to see them a lot though. Good luck with March! Baby steps is a great motto!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Congrats on paying off the card! I was so relieved when I got all of mine taken care of...but now apparently I have to open one to have some sort of credit...ugh credit is so confusing!! I love your goals for March!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Paying off those major bills hanging over your head like that is such a huge accomplishment!!!!! I am so happy to hear about you being nicer to yourself. You are so beautiful inside and out!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Your relationship with yourself is the MOST important one. Loving yourself allows you to authentically love others :)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Congrats on paying off that card!!! Ugh being an adult sucks sometimes!!!

Your February goals look like mine, oops! I mean, there were a few days missing from that month anyways right? Good luck with your March goals! I am working on my relationship with myself too!

  37. blame the lack of completely the goals on the snow. I've been blaming everything on snow lately Congrats on paying off the card. That's a big deal.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Woohoo for paying off that credit card. That is huge and must feel so good. February is a short month so it's hard to get everything done! That's my excuse anyway. I still have to clean out my closet, but I think it actually will happen now that it's spring cleaning season. I always get in the zone this time of year.
And OMG that baby steps gif hahaha This isn't really all that related but it reminds me of a time I was a nanny and the girl was just learning how to ride her bike. She got a little over confident and I told her she was going too fast but she didn't listen and sure enough, BOOM! Poor thing. Should have listened to me ;-)

  39. I'm dying for summer too!! Only a few more month! Good luck with your March goals!

    ReplyDelete
  40. WooHoo - you paid off the credit card!! I was in the same boat you are when I was about your age - I had so many cards it was awful!!! It took awhile but now other than our mortgage and, of course, my new truck we are debt free.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Congrats on paying off the credit card that is awesome! I am the same! Even though I miss my family like crazy I don't talk to them on the phone near enough, just lots of messages.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Hallelujah no more February! It's the pits. Also I'm the same with phones - I just really don't like talking to people on the phone. I have no idea why. I can do the hi, how are you thing but anything deeper is just such a struggle. I mean, sometimes that's just the way it has to be but I much, much prefer in person chats. I miss my sister massively but with the time difference/busy weekends/fitting in around my niece and nephew it's rare that we can properly talk. Which makes me sad. Looks like I'm adopting that goal of yours, too!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Congrats on paying off that credit card! Once a month sounds like a balanced amount to speak to your family with your actual voice -- esp. since you already email your mom daily. How's your nana with computers? My main goal this month is to land a job that pays enough to ensure survival.

  44. Paying off that credit card is huge! You definitely deserve a huge pat on the back for that one. We are totally guilty of not *really* spending time together too, and more often than not just sitting in the same room doing our own thing. I'm fine with that since honestly the way we are, we both need a lot of that kind of time, but we do need to be more intentional sometimes about actually spending time together. I hope March has gotten off to a great start for you!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Paying off credit cards is a big deal. It's a great accomplishment and you should be proud of yourself regardless of how long it takes. The most important relationship you have is the one you have with yourself. You gotta love yourself first.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I love your posts. They are so real and relatable! Congrats on paying on that credit card!! That's amazing... it's so hard. You're definitely right though: baby steps!! And the gif is hilarious. I watched it over and over and I'm laughing in my cubicle. Oops!

I love the goal of doing something with KC once a week. It's the same over here - I spend lots of time with Joey but for the most part we're usually just watching TV together or eating together or in the same room doing different things... it's nice to do different things together now and then; even if it's going out for dinner, a movie, a walk, running errands together... :) good luck this month with everything!!!

  47. Congrats on one card down!! On to the next, you rock!

  48. I have had debt on my list for two years and we finally paid off our small debt of over $2,000 in February. It felt great. We now only have student loans and car loans. We will not be paying them off this year or next because of my schooling situation for next...I won't be able to work as much..so instead we are saving...:) We are keeping our cards too for the bonuses and building our credit even higher.

I love that you are going to spend time with KC not on the computers. technology always seems to be in the way at some point in life. I know I can lock myself away and work on blogging or person stuff for hours and loose time.

Good luck and have fun accomplishing these goals!

  51. Some of those goals are so lofty (which is good!). You're right that it will take a long time. I like the idea of a capsule wardrobe, but I am in such a transitional part of life. So, things are just packed away. It does help keep me from buying things that I don't need - I do end up searching for the best deals (like the clearance Gap t shirts with a coupon) instead of just buying and buying work clothes, plus weekend clothes, but comfy clothes. Plus things I don't need. Why is buying so satisfying until you look at the bill later?
I've been using the library SO much more, which has helped my bad book habit. I was thinking about writing a post about how I use library cd books to put on my phone/ipad, so it's more portable. I don't know if people would be interested or not.
I really like your goal of working on your relationship with yourself. I'm working on that. I have some workbooks/go to a counselor. I can't wait to get to the baby steps to maintain it, like you said, but it's very smart that you do have to keep working on it like any relationship--I don't think I'd thought that far ahead.

  52. Hey, one card paid off is freaking fantastic, congratulations.
I love your goal for your relationship with yourself. Always have to be your own #1 supporter.
As for dates with KC, try the dating divas. Their website is cute. Some super cheesy stuff but also a lot of good free/cheap ideas for weekly date nights!

  53. Girl, you definitely deserve a pat on the back for paying off even one credit card! I know it isn't easy! And hopefully that will help you get the momentum going on paying off the others. I love the idea of monthly goals. I should do this... I am just afraid I wouldn't be able to accomplish anything since life is so crazy right now :( Also summer birthdays are the best! I would definitely be said if I moved countries and changed seasons!

    ReplyDelete
  54. I think you deserve more than a pat on the back for paying off the credit card. That is a great accomplishment. One at a time they will go. I didnt do this months promp because ... create what? I couldnt figure it out. Relationships .. now that is one I can get on. And like you relationship with self is on the list. Lawd knows I neeeeed to work on it!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Working on relationships is a fantastic goal! I need to do that as well. I get so wrapped up in doing stuff at my house and hanging out with my son that I put others at the very bottom when I do have time.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Dang. I should have considered laptop-free couples time for this month. Good luck with your goals! Especially your relationship with yourself. <3

  57. I love it! Hope March has gone a little better than April. I find that by the time I nail down mini goals for the month its pretty much gone... not that I don't get stuff done.... but still. March has been pretty good so far. :) KC and I have been doing a pretty good job of spending lots of time together, but also at spending time together doing separate things, which I am not always so good at.
