TFITLFOF

aka thank fudge it's the last Friday of February. I know I was all like 'hurry up Spring' last year but for reals, this winter is just killing my buzz and ruining my life. Too strong? Don't care.

So over it and ready for warmer weather. I never thought I would be excited for a 40 degree forecast - seriously, I am running in shorts and a tshirt on the weekend, rain you better stay the buggery away.

Meanwhile, my heart skipped a beat when I saw the forecast said 61 for Tuesday. It's coming, I can feel it.. Spring. But until then... favourites!

Sling.

Y'all I am so obsessed with this I literally can't even. If I'm saying y'all you know it's real. I might have mentioned that KC and I don't have cable - never have, not worth the money. He had it when he lived with his mom, I never had it growing up and we survive just fine. That being said, if you invite me over to your house for a HGTV marathon, I would say yes in a heartbeat. KC has to watch soccer and football games on his computer or go to a friends house. So, we don't want to pay for cable but we wouldn't say no if it were free.

Well. It's not free, but it's damn near. $20 a month and you get like 20 channels, I can't tell you what they are because I only care about 1 - HGTV (KC only cares about ESPN - this should be interesting come football season). Yep. aka the reason I have done nothing the last few days because all I have been doing is watching alllll them shows.

Ok, first off - we signed up for a free trial to see if it was our jam. Bummed to find out we need a roku or amazon fire whatsit. I don't like watching live TV on my computer, and while we can hook the 'puter up to the telly, then what am I supposed to blog on? Then I discovered they were running a deal where you get $50 off the fancy amazon thing, or a free amazon stick thing (real technical terms here y'all). So, I cancelled our free trial that I had set up with one email address, and signed up using this link with a different email address- now you do have to sign up and pay for 3 months up front with either of these deals, so I recommend doing a normal 7 day trial with another email address to figure out if it's right for you. It might not be, but I thought I would share for my other HGTV lovahs out there.

Oh, and you can access netflix and all the other doodads with the fire stick thingy.

You can add extras, like sports or news or kids but we didn't.

Biggest awesome thing I have discovered: I CAN REWIND. Ok, so I get home and some lameo show is on. I can rewind hours or days back and watch whatever I want. Boom. The stick isn't the best to rewind and fast forward through commercials and the like, so I just let it play through and instagram for like a minute till the show comes back on. It is without a doubt my favourite feature.

Biggest flaw I have found so far: doesn't have the option for subtitles like Netflix. Have a feeling this would not annoy most people, but y'all I love my subtitles. Oh, and you also can't have it running on multiple devices at once, which is not a big deal for us, but it might be for you.

We love it so much we are most likely going to get rid of netflix because we really don't use it that much. It's ok, it's handy, but eh. We kept it cause it's like $10 a month, but this is $20, and both makes - you guessed it, $30, and I like $20 better than $30 so Bye Felicia-Netflix.

I hope I don't have to say this, but totes not sponsered. I wish. I would shout it from the rooftops even more so than I am doing right now. It's not even an affiliate link, nada, zilch, noperaino. Just my love for HGTV, or as I like to call it, hug TV.

Favourite book.

I started Joey's book Yeah, maybe last night and I seriously couldn't put it down. I didn't even watch HGTV which is a big deal because see above. It's still on sale for $1.99 so go get you some good bookage.

Serial.

About a year late, but I'm listening to Serial whilst running. I don't like podcasts, I don't like murder (you know what I mean), I didn't think this would be my jam. But I'm addicted, I want to run more just so I can keep listening.

You guys.

Yep, all y'all. For your sweet words and comments on Tuesday's post, I just feel super loved and normal and like a new person. Baby steps, being nicer to myself, being honest with what I actually want.. come at me March life.

This weekend is hopefully gonna be low key - running, reading, hgtv-ing and sleeping. Sounds fine to me. Any plans?

  3. Sling sounds super interesting! Right now I use a combo of Netflix, Hulu and my antenna haha I get all the local channels free which is great (the antenna was only $10!) but honestly with Hulu I don't even use the antenna that much except for the morning news. I just watch the new episodes the next day in the morning... except for Once Upon A Time... that one I watch live as it's airing :P

  4. 61 sounds amazing right now. It is still super cold here. Dying for Spring. I feel like I've been wearing the same sweater and legging combo on repeat lol. I am going to look into that Amazon thing. bc our cable bill is outrageous. xo

  5. I started Joey's book last night, too! Reading twins. <3

I also don't like murder/crime stuff and I've never listened to a podcast, but I've seen Serial recommended by so many different people at this point. Usually I ignore recommendations if it's outside the genre that I like, but even my sister said good things about it, so I might have to bite the bullet and figure out how podcasts work.

  6. Its -8 here right now, -25 with the wind chill, I am so ready for spring! So jealous you've got 60s in your forecast! Happy Friday!

  7. I've never heard of Sling before, now I"m intrigued. Girl, I've been ready for spring since January it's just too cold this year. I feel badly for my northeast friends. COme one SUMMER!!!!

  8. serial is so good. i still find myself thinking about it. i had to get cable so i could have high speed internet (boo, hiss sneaky cable ppl) but i don't watch it that often. but netflix, i am all about that!

  9. First - I love that you said "all y'all"!!! I say that all the time and take a lot of flack for it since I live in Kansas but I'm from Texas and it is a natural part of me.
Glad you have a way to watch HGTV - my favorite channel!!!

  10. I feel the same wayyyyy. Last year it took until late March for me to be like "OK winter you need to F off" and this year I've just been over it from the start. I'm so so so sick of cold days and snow. I want warm weather. Is that too much to ask?! Haha sorry ;) that's a pretty good deal for TV! I feel like down the road Joey and I could scrap cable as well. We do watch TV (mainly sports) but I watch most of my shows online and we have netflix... so when no Joey's not home I usually just throw that on and watch Full House or Friends haha. :) right now we get free cable though until September so why not :)

have an amazing weekend girly xo

  11. although i work for a huge telco (in the TV dept too, ha!) the rates just for base packages is ridiculous....then if you really want the good stuff (ie. speciality channels like HBO or whatever), you gots to pay even MORE...figure in the tax etc and your monthly bill is eleventy billion dollars and/or your first born child. so hell yes to a $20/month service with the channels that you want.

and don't even talk to me about warm temps. i have given up on the weather and will just wait for canadia to thaw out.

  12. I loved Serial! I'm so glad you started listening to it!

  13. I am so so so over this weather. I am so ready for spring and to thaw out. I heard we are supposed to get more snow here this weekend and I really hope it's not true.

  14. I've never heard of Sling TV before, but you have me really excited over here. Every time we get to stay in a hotel, we just sit around and watch HGTV, Food Network and the news. We are wild! I'm still trying to figure out if it's available in Canada yet, but I will get to the bottom of this. Fingers crossed! Cable is just too expensive for us, but $20 I could handle!

  15. Sling TV sounds interesting! Yay for 61 - enjoy it and have a great weekend!!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Your "I don't like murder" practically made me cry laughing <3
Also, I don't even know what do do about this Sling thing. I'm going to have to check it out... because I might become obsessed.

  17. ohh i need to check out Sling! my husband watches soccer on the computer too...but that's because his favorite team is in italy! it's hilarious to hear russian announcers :) we dont have cable either and i miss HGTV and food network. oh well.. i watch a LOT less crap tv now that we have fewer options! im glad you're listening to Serial! it's so interesting!

  18. Ok, I am definitely checking out that Sling TV thing!! We don't have cable either because it is SO ridiculous and we don't watch even 1/4 of the channels but I think we could handle $20/month to get the channels we want like ESPN and HGTV! Thank you so much for sharing!

Hope you have a fabulous weekend!

  19. OOOOH this sounds AMAZING!! We have been struggling with the cable vs. no cable debate!! Our company now doesn't really have an internet-only option. The only other option is to do ATT Uverse. Which is schmancy. DVR and all that jazz. Which is fine...but more $$. This is something I am going to look into like now. Thank you for posting this!! :) This weekend we will be having some sort of blizzard weekend. 10 ish inches between Saturday and Tuesday. We'll see KS. I dunno. So we might just stay in most of the weekend. If it's nice we might see Birdman this weekend. Possibly meet some bloggers in KC, again if it's not a blizzard. So ready for spring too. So so ready. Have a good one! XO - Alexandra

  20. Thanks for the FYI on Sling. Def going to have to check it out. Happy Friday!

  21. I grew up without cable too and then I worked for DISH network out of college and totally got spoiled with a DVR and don't know how I could ever switch! Although if it wasn't for sports for my hubs, I'd consider cutting the cord to save some major moolah! It's ridic how much TV costs us. Have a great weekend, lovely!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I really like the concept of Sling, but there are some key channels I'd need to make the move, which currently aren't there. I wish you could create custom channels with your cable provider!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I'm so over this winter. It's been so cold and snowy that doing anything is challenge. Not to mention that the traffic is terrible 24/7. I so need to check Sling out, sound great.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I love your posts. I dont have Sling - we Bannons are your TOTAL opposite. We have ALLLLLLL the channels and as if that is not enough we also have Netflix, Amazon Prime, blah blah blah. I dont know why we have to have all these things since we work and go to school all day and are never home but we do. My television budget is like a car payment. FML. BTW you are not the last one to get on board with Serial. I still have yet to pull the trigger on that. Running while listening sounds like a great idea though!

  25. I finished her book yesterday and thought it was amazing too!! I need to look into Sling - sounds like Gary would love it!! Have a great weekend! xo, Biana - BlovedBoston

  26. You are not alone in wishing for Spring - I've been counting down since October! haha

If I had to choose to only get one channel it would be a tie between HGTV and TLC - I wouldn't be able to pick!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I just downloaded the Serial podcasts & am anxious to listen since everyone is talking about it.
I am counting down to Tuesday with the 60's... even if it is only one day.

    ReplyDelete
  28. i'll have to look more into Sling... we currently use netflix. also i died laughing at the first sentence!

    ReplyDelete
  29. That's so awesome that you get HGTV now. I know there are some shows I would just show up at a friends house for but being able to watch it at home is sooo nice! I have the stick thing that was half price for Prime members last year but haven't even hooked it up. I live in FL and can't wait for Spring. This back and forth is crazy. I don't know what to keep out and what to pack away. Have a great weekend!

    ReplyDelete
  30. I have been thinking about getting Sling, but wasn't sure if it was worth it or not. I may have to try it now!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Everyone keeps telling me to do Serial and I'm the same - have never latched to podcasts and don't particularly like murder / crime things. TFITLFOF!

    ReplyDelete
  32. We just canceled our DirecTV this week and I found out about Sling. We haven't signed up for it but will probably look into it for football season. Right now we are just using Netflix and Hulu and maybe getting Apple TV but haven't decided yet. It was a big step for me to let go of it! I love watching tv...I'm so lazy. Ha!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Wow - I've never heard of Sling, what a great deal! My only question would be, do they offer Bravo?! lol I think now that I'm embarking on a longer commute, I may need to finally check out Serial. Hope you have a great weekend! xoxo

    ReplyDelete
  34. I'm 100% getting rid of cable once I move. The only cable show I watch is The Walking Dead. I'll be just fine with Hulu & Netflix. I am throwing away so much money right now considering how much I watch TV.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I couldn't find my dang Podcasts app on my 5 hour drive the other weekend so am literally the last person to not hear Serial still haha. Love your new TV gadget! It looks like it is very similar to the Roku that I have. Bring on cheap tv and slash those cable bills please and thank you! Happy weekend, lady :)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Our warmest day ahead is next Tuesday too but only 40 degrees for us - I'll totally take it though!! I'm so over this never ending winter!

    ReplyDelete
  37. You sound like a true Southerner now!! Glad you found a TV solution that works for you, even if it means you're getting a little less done in other areas. Everyone needs a break now and then! I will go download your book rec while it's on sale. Hopefully I will get to it in March!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Y'all? Where is the Aussie and who is the southerner? LOL

You've intrigued me with your Sling pitch. I have a roku so I might have to check it out.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I am all about HGTV, it's on most of the weekend when i am home. Serial is so good, can't wait for the second season to come out. Hope you have a great weekend!

  40. Sling sounds awesome! I had never heard of it before, but a friend just got it yesterday!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I've heard amazing things about Serial from like 10 billion people and have yet to listen. I really need to get on that. Also, something that lets you rewind through days -- DAYS -- of television? What the what?!

    ReplyDelete
  43. I am so glad to hear you like Sling! Chris and I have been talking about getting rid of cable, but it's hard because we love sports. I love HGTV-especially Fixer Upper because Chip and Joanna went to my university and live in Waco, so it makes me happy to see Waco homes made pretty. :) Haha

    ReplyDelete
  44. lol I debated getting rid of cable for a while and Kev can't take the plunge. He needs his sports

    ReplyDelete
  45. I can't think of a single thing I have watched on HGTV or if I've ever even voluntarily watched it.

We pay for cable. Husband's doing. I like it since we have it but it's not a need for me.

Serial is one of the only podcasts I listen to. It's kick ass.

    ReplyDelete
  46. UMMM THIS SOUNDS LIKE THE BEST EVER. Thank you so so much for bringing it into my life. I'm going to look into it ASAP. Also, Hug TV? The cutest.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Serial was so freaking awesome!!! I am looking for a new podcast now! That swing tv sounds pretty cool. I just downloaded Joey's book last night and will probably start it this weekend!

    ReplyDelete
  48. We're sort of television/movies heavy in this house (and my husband is soccer obsessed. He would watch that 24/7 if it were an option. And it almost is.) But I don't actually WATCH much television. I have something running while I exercise (which makes the closed captioning important while running), I have stuff playing while I paint, cook dinner, etc... but very few things will I actually sit down for. So, we have Netflix, and Dish, and it's going a LOT. a LOTLOT.

    ReplyDelete
  49. And I forgot to mention how jealous I am that it's 61 there!!! That seems like it will never get here. We've been in the 20's and 30's for weeks/months/yearswhoknows???

    ReplyDelete
  50. I think it ate my other comment? Here it is. This sounds great - I'm definitely looking into it. I have cable, because my husband watches it - I never watch it. I'm pretty much Netflix only. I don't even like TV on while I'm on the computer, because it's too distracting for me. I'm going to contact my cable company to find out how much just internet is. I know it's still a lot, if it's the same price it was when we moved here, but it's worth a try.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I have been hearing a lot about Serial lately....am totally going to check that out!!

    ReplyDelete
  52. I just finished Serial. 1. Dying to know what really happened. Since I worked in law enforcement, I had a ton of questions. I listened with my husband, so I would say things about the interviews or a process, then the journalist would say the same thing. So, that was funny.
    2. Have you heard of any other podcast to listen to like Serial? I loved it, but can't find that there is anything else similar!

  55. hahah I am listening to Serial over as well. I thought I was weird! It also keeps my concentration when working out which my scatter brain needs! Sling tele sounds interesting but Im sure it aint available by me but Ill look out for it!

    ReplyDelete
  56. I think this post just saved my life! ESPN is the only reason that we have kept cable for so long. This is the first thing that I am hearing about that has sports channels without requiring cable! Does it have the shows live on it?
