January Results / February Goals

Ok, so here it is. How did I do goal wise in the first month of the self proclaimed best year yet?

The theme for January was 'complete'. My goal was to simply complete one of my freaking goals, a lot of which had been on the goal list for too long.

1. Organise my documents like I was supposed to do in November.
Done. This was something I just kept putting off and off and off and off (you get the idea) so I finally just sat my butt down and did it. Now it's done I basically never have to look at it again.

2. Purge and sell clothes. Purge random stuff around the house.
I purged the shit out of my closet - so much that KC exclaimed 'wow, your closet looks better than mine!' hashtag winning. I listed a few things on eBay. I have a ridiculous amount left to list, but I find a little at a time works better than all at once. I also cleaned out our tupperware - we didn't have a lot, but enough that it was a mess.

3. (I be up in the gym just) Working on my fitness. Yoga, running and strength training.
I did good. Not great, not bad. Good. I had some things that couldn't be helped stop me from working out, but it wasn't laziness which is normally my issue.

4. Eat well - specific goals in mind.

I started the month with the lofty goal of no junk - no fast food, no ice cream, no chips. I lasted till the 2nd. Something I need to work on. I did, however, stay strong on my no gluten (you know, that fun disease I have), and I didn't eat any meat at all (holla 30 before 30 check you off my list).

5. Attempt to meal plan the month away.

I definitely didn't do the first week but I started on the 12th and meal prepped and planned for that week... and then I got my tooth taken out and couldn't eat anything. I had meal ideas for most of the month but it definitely wasn't planned or prepped so I need to work on that.

6. Pay off credit card with highest interest rate.

Close, but no cigar.

7. No shopping.
Funnily enough, I forgot to edit this one because the day before I posted my goals, I shopped. So yeah, fail.

8. Donate something & be thankful for something.

I did my thankful post - and I am truly thankful for those girls - and I donated a bunch of clothes to goodwill. I also bought some pizza from Rosa's thanks to Steph giving me the heads up. And you can too! It's just $1!

9. Make 5 new to me recipes.

Done! I made:
1) quick curried chickpeas with spinach - this was such a hit, I couldn't believe it.
2) black bean burgers - these were such a hit. KC and my brother in law both loved them, my mother in law said they were the best black bean burgers she'd ever had. Definitely making again.
3) crustless quiche - I have made frittatas before, but I always burn them in the cast iron skillet, so this is the first time I cooked it in the oven all the way and it turned out ahhhmazing.
4) Lentil spaghetti - this didn't work so good. It was ok, but not amazing. I want amazing.
5) I made a gluten free cake. From a box. It counts because I have never made anything like that before, box or no.

10. Finish that positivity post I am having so much trouble with.
I finished it. Not sure if or when I will post it, but I finished it.

Life According to Steph

February's theme is 'create'. I am the least creative person in the world, no really - the least - so this is intimidating. But Steph assured me I didn't have to do anything fancy so my goals are pretty simple, especially because February is a short month:

- Create the base for a capsule wardrobe.
I know I want to do a capsule-ish wardrobe but I need to actually sit down and do it and figure out what I need.

- I want to DIY something small, like 'artwork' - I use that term loosely because, hello it's me.

- I want to sew something. Last week I made some pockets for KC's gym shorts and it got me in a sewing mood again.

- Pay off that dang credit card (not create related but whatevs).

- Finally, I want to make 5 new to me recipes again.

What are you working towards this month / year?

  2. I have tried to make the black bean burgers and it seriously ended in a disaster. I should probably try again.

  3. That's great that you made 5 new recipes! I tried some new recipes this month too and I hated all of them. Worst cook ever! The only thing I can make that I actually like is beef stew... yummmm. Good luck with your new goals :)

  5. You did really well this month! You know, besides shopping which shouldn't have been on the list anyway ;) Bummer about the lentil spaghetti! It sounds good in theory... I'm cleaning out my closet too, before we move. But my problem is purging too much stuff, then being mad I donated it a few months later. Oops.

  6. you did great overall! i'm currently doing a no-grain thing and so far, so good. when i told my friend that i'm not eating any grains, he says: well then what else is there to eat? LOL

  7. I think you did really great. Life throws us curveballs and some things can't be helped. Overall really fabulous though.

Super proud of the closet clean out. Now you've made me want to take another go at mine. I think I'll do that soon.

Trying new recipes almost always makes my list because you have to eat and you might as well try something new!

  8. You did great! I did the same thing with the "no junk" only I gave myself 1 cheat item each day. Even with the cheat item, I broke down completely on the very first weekend. And then I decided, "Why not?" If I eat like shit every weekend, but only on the weekend, that's still 5 healthier days each week than I had before. So that's my new plan, with the intent to gradually reduce the weekend excess.

I started meal planning at the beginning of January. I don't do anything too crazy, but I have had some baller breakfasts this month, and it helps to make sure there's always healthy leftovers of some variety for lunches, and something quick to throw together for dinner. I'm relying pretty heavily on the crock pot since I don't have the discipline or desire to spend 1 hour+ cooking a meal each night. (Sorry, I'm still really enthused about meal planning in general so I get excited whenever someone else mentions it. :P)

  9. I have been trying to make one new recipe every week, some have been delicious, others have been major fails :) This month I really want to get out and explore some new places and keep up with my reading.

  10. You sew? Me too! How fun.

I totally need to work on #4. Yikes.

You will learn to love your capsule wardrobe. The hardest part is putting it together!

  11. Sounds like you did pretty well with your goals!! Way to go on making 5 new recipes. That black bean burger sounds good!

  12. You did awesome on your goals! I did way better with junk food - and no fast food! But definitely need to step up the exercise and gym department ;) Doesn't it feel great to purge clothes?? I do it every so often - and it's always nice to make some $$ back on eBay! I keep a PayPal account for eBay sales and (try not to) touch it all year to use for Xmas gift money in Nov/Dec :) The home made recipes look lovely too! Great job lady! xx

  13. Look at you and all that cooking! So jealous -- I really wish I liked it and was good at it. I try, but blah. I suck. Good job on your goals!! Let me know how that capsule thing goes --- I'd like to try it, but it scares me.

  21. You did so good! And girl, what do you mean not creative!? Remember that ottoman? If you finish that in Feb I think it could count toward the create goal :)

  23. Good job girl! You set a lot of goals for yourself and you did a great job! Good luck in Feb!

  24. Congrats on the no meat!! Chickpea dishes and black bean burgers are staples in our kitchen. Going to bookmark both of those recipes and give them a go. My black bean burger recipe is pretty similar, but I'm always looking for ways to tweak it. I still have to list a bunch of items on eBay. I'm not sure why I've been putting that off since I actual find eBay fun and I usually get a decent amount of money. I'm blaming it on the fact that we spend all our free time shovelling lately!

    ReplyDelete
  25. I need to start setting monthly goals! I haven't been great at it and that bothers me. I definitely need to improve!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I used to love black bean burgers. Then there was...an incident and I got to taste them twice (I'll let you use your imagination on that one) and I haven't been able to eat them since. And I want to because they really are delicious.

I think you had a great month with your goals! I'm looking forward to seeing what recipes you come up with this month, too.

  27. Looks like a great January! Great job on getting all of those new recipes made!

  30. Nice job!!! Not sure I could go without shopping lol

    ReplyDelete
  31. You did great! Paying off credit cards is the pits but always better now than later (still in the same boat as you!). I am SO excited you guys have an upcoming trip planned though. HUGE vacation to look forward to!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Wow - you did a lot!!! About the only creative thing I do is to try new recipes. I'm working on a 2000 piece puzzle - does that count??

  36. Budget Bytes is my absolute fave, everything is delicious. #2 makes me so happy! I love a clean closet, it makes such a difference in my life, I swear. Good luck this month! I have capsule wardrobe things pinned to my Wear board, if you need help.

  38. Sounds like you are doing like any human other human being, only better! Because you actually know what you did, good or band, and know where you are going. So keep at it, girl! My goals are to keep doing yoga regularly and continue being consistent, with the blog and school! It's sometimes good to reset and recharge, though. Best!

  39. Did you have any luck with your listings on eBay? I've been meaning to do the same but always wonder if my stuff would sell! Interested to hear your experience :) I recently did the easiest "artwork" DIY - it was so easy it barely counted as a DIY but that was part the reason I loved it so much haha.

  40. Love how you said the clean eating lasted till the 2nd. haha it happens. But hey look how much you cooked girl!!! Those freaking peas look so yummy but then again I love curry! I wish I could join next month (I failed at joining this month) but I cant create a thing! haha

  41. You did awesome on your goals this month!! I think by paying off your credit card you will be "Creating" financial freedom, and that is an amazing thing to create! Kudos on all of your progress this month, especially the tedious tasks like organizing documents and cleaning out your closet!

  42. Oooh awesome progress! I just now made my yearly goals. But January had lots of travel, family time, getting a new kitten, and cooking quite a lot for being so busy. I'm hoping to post them soon. This month I want to visit my old coworkers and school, doing a fashion IG challenge (you've been seeing I'm sure!), and hopefully picking up some books! Good luck in Feb! XO -Alexandra

  54. I think you were on a roll for January! What a way to start off the New Year! The hardest for me is probably the meal prep and new recipes but you killed the new recipes. Good luck with your February goals!

  55. he's my witness (whoo-wee!) – sorry, got a little carried away on the Fergalicious reference there.
Wow, girl, you are on a roll! You got a whole lot of stuff done!

I have been bit by the decluttering bug too as well, though it started last year but lately I've just been ruthless! I had already decluttered my closet in the fall but this time I emptied it all out and went through each item and asked myself if I was excited to wear it or not. Result: two GIANt bags to goodwill (bonus) and a fairly empty closet which I am loving. Never thought I would be happy to have LESS clothes.

Good luck with your February goals!

  56. You had such a successful month! I've had a few dresses I've wanted to list on ebay for like four months now but I never get around to take pictures so I should make that a goal for this month! Those curried chickpeas sound delicious and I've never had a black bean burger and I'm not sure why- going to give that a try soon!

  57. I would love to see the items you listed on eBay. I'm looking to update my wardrobe and create a work appropriate closet. I'm glad your linking up with us and hope you accomplish a lot!

  58. You did great on your goals girl! I pinned the black bean burgers recipe, they sound so good! I used to sell clothing on ebay, but they raised all their fees, and then with Paypal fees too, I couldn't make a profit anymore. Although if you have something name brand that you wouldn't just want to give to GW, at least you can make a little bit from ebay.
