Well.. since then I haven't done any yoga, have only done strength training once and a couple of workout videos. Last week was the first time I ran more than twice, so clearly I don't have any great progress to share. But that's okay, I'm not mad. I'm focusing on just enjoying running right now, with no pressure.
Last week I ran 4 times, nothing crazy just a couple miles each day. I didn't want to get up yesterday morning, thankfully KC
So with zero pressure, not getting too ahead of myself... I want to run the triple crown (hopefully work will pay for it, what what) which is 3 races (5k, 10k and 10 miles). They are in March, every other weekend, and then a couple weeks after is the Derby 'mini' marathon. I thought it would be fun to do a race every month but KC quickly dismissed that idea, way too expensive. But, normally with all my races at the start of the year, I fizzle out towards the middle and end so I want to try and find at least one race each season. Anyway, I'm getting ahead of myself.
For now, I would like to just throw out what I think are very reasonable goals for next year. They aren't anything crazy, those PRs are all from 2012, almost 3 years ago (jeepers) and I'm not in the same shape. So we'll see. They are just my goals right now.
5km
PR: 27:16
Goal: under 30 minutes.
10km
PR: 55:13
Goal: under 60 minutes.
10 miles
PR: 1:42:58
Goal: less than an hour and 30 minutes.
Half marathon
PR: 2:04:48
Goal: Less than 2 hours.
To work towards these goals, I am focusing on running 3-5 times per week (heard that before). So far so good. This week will be a true test, with having Thursday and Friday off and Thursday being the holiday of all the food. After that, I'll follow a proper plan with speed work and all that jazz.
On top of that, I know strength training is where it's at, both to lose weight and to help with my running. Twice a week for that right now, one lower body and one upper body.
On top of that, I need to get back into yoga - it feels so good and I really enjoy it, just need to make myself do it. I am going to start Erin Motz's original 30 day challenge again. I did it before, but all over the place, so this time I want to concentrate on doing it every day, or at least not taking too many days off.
Anyway, as I'm sure you've noticed, I often talk about what I want to do and all these goals and how I am going to achieve them, but I never actually do. All talk, I am. I feel like I say the same thing eah time, and it never changes because I never do it. But not this time, I promise you, and myself. I will reach these goals. I'll check in next time to let you know cause I'm sure you're all dying to know, but it helps me to stay accountable. So I appreciate you letting me babble.
Right? The time will pass anyway, may as well make the most of it.
What are you working towards?
I'm debating signing up for the Triple Crown myself. I always need a goal. Good for you for getting back at it and for doing that early morning workout. You are awesome
ReplyDeleteCongrats on getting back on track with your goals - very inspiring!
ReplyDeleteI hope your job will pay for those races - that would be amazing!! I think you're doing a great job and you're not putting pressure on yourself which is making running fun for you!
ReplyDeleteGood work, getting back into everything! It so hard to get up in the morning but when you do, it's so worth it! This is something I'm working on for the next couple of months. Need to pick up the habit again!
ReplyDeleteGirl you motivate me to get my booty in shape!

Ugh, I totally get the struggle of getting up in the mornings to run. I have gotten out of the habit of it, and now it is so hard to get back in.
ReplyDeleteoh man sign my up for the 30 days of yoga. i need it in my life! BUT i totally think you should do the derby race thing
ReplyDelete!
That last quote image you used? I love it and I've used it and it totally helps.
ReplyDeleteYour race goals are great, and I really think if you stick with your training you'll hit them. As far as adding in the strength training and yoga, it can only help. Just make sure you're leaving time for rest, because I think the lack of designated rest days make people abandon training plans. You know your body, your schedule, etc. and you know what's realistic. Listen to yourself and don't try to be the kind of person you aren't.
That said, of course I'm stoked you're giving the challenge another try. If there's anything I can do to help you stay on track with any of these goals, you know where to find me. Daily motivational texts? Yoga pose of the day? I'm your girl.
Thanks for linking up. Now go be awesome.
At this precise moment I am trying to man myself up for a run with my jogging group. I did core balance yesterday for the second time ever and my limbs are in paaaaain. Someone told me running would actually help on this. Not sure I believe them

These are great goals! I'm trying to work out 3-4 times a week. Since I feel like my knee is finally starting to heal, I'm going to try to run 2 times a week and do the elliptical the other times. I need to do more strength training, too. It's something I overlook a lot, but I know it would be good for me:) Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteThe triple crown race sounds really fun! I think just taking your goals day by day and focusing on that day's workout will help. I included strength training and yoga during the training cycle and I'm glad I did! For some reason I don't get as excited about yoga but I'm always glad when I force myself to do it :)
ReplyDeleteUmmm all I can say is, I would be eating something better than 600 M&Ms after that kind of a run haha. Keep up the great motivation! :)
ReplyDeleteThat ecard!!! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSomeone (I think Alyssa) recommended the yoga challenge to me last month and I signed up and saved all the emails...but haven't done it. LOL. Maybe I should get on that!!!
That would be awesome if your work paid for it. They can get really expensive. I need to run more but I like weights more. ;) Glad you are getting back into it and at a pace you enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI love yoga! I need to get back into that too, as well as back into working out in general. I've had pretty much zero motivation lately and I don't know what to do to get out of this rut! Way to go on setting some awesome goals!
ReplyDeletegirl, I can't run more than a 5k. I just never get to a happy place, so I am good with that. I also have some pretty lofty goals, we'll see if they get met :)
ReplyDeleteYou are such an inspiration. I just quit the gym and I am trying to lay around and eat chocolate. #thestruggleisreal
ReplyDeleteI have been really trying to get into yoga since that's something a really enjoy!! I just need to get back into my routine! I've been so lazy now that it's starting to get cold! Time to hibernate haha

wow this is so inspirational!! I used to play softball all the way through college and now that it's been a couple years I've really been trying to find something else to do and it's just so hard to stay motivated without a structured setting like a team!! I'd really like to get into running, i wish it wasn't so cold!! But oh well. Maybe i'll just do it anyway.
ReplyDeleteSo with you on people who think they "should" run. What for?! Yeah it sucks sometimes for me but I wouldn't do it if I didn't love it deep down (despite the sucky days). There are so many forms of exercise out there, I just don't get forcing yourself do something you don't enjoy (actually, that's pretty much how I feel about most things in life).
ReplyDeleteI think those goals are totally attainable, especially considering your history. I think you might even surprise yourself! I'm rooting for you and can't wait to follow your progress! I'm SO bummed you aren't doing RnR (of course the door is always open...) but at least it will be fun to all be on the same timeline :)
I so need to get back into running because i like it once i get used to it but I really struggle this time of year. I had great plans of being super fit when I go to Australia...well there is two weeks until then so I think that plan is out the window haha!
ReplyDeleteRoutines are the key to it all! I keep saying I am going to try yoga and then I don't do it. However, with the neck situation getting in the way of my regular workout routine I am being forced to start. I think I'll start after my vaca
ReplyDeleteYou rock those goals, lady!
ReplyDeleteI'm doing the 30 day yoga challenge in December, let's keep each other accountable!
That quote is everything!!! You rock!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with those goals! I have a love/hate relationship with working out, I love reaching my goals and having a routine, but the actual act of it kills me physically hahaha.
ReplyDeleteThe Triple Crown sounds intense (to someone like me who only runs after buses or trains), but I know you can do it. I love that you post your goals here and hold yourself to them. I'll be cheering you on from England :D
ReplyDeletehahah thats one of my favourite gifs, hilarious. and yeah i'm finding it harder to run lately due to the snow, but this is a nice reminder for me, thanks!
ReplyDeleteLove your goals for next year! Hmmm...thinking I need to find a job that pays for my races! I totally agree about running because you love it!
ReplyDeleteI love that lady in the first photo/clip! I laugh every time I watch it!
ReplyDeleteGod bless,

Yeah!!!! I love setting goals like this! I totally need to write some down and join you! Hope you have a wonderful holiday girl xoxoxo
ReplyDeleteYayyyy, your last quote is one of my favorites! Very applicable and motivating for so many things in life! Congrats on getting focused on your fitness goals and I agree...no one should truly hate their workouts. If you do, find something else!!
ReplyDeleteGina - On the Daily Express
Yes, yes YES on the time passing anyway, absolutely!
ReplyDeleteThose are some lofty goals, girl! Wow.
I don't run, I just truly despise running, but I love yoga so my goal is to use my MyYogaPro subscription at least 4 times a week in December. I really enjoy kickboxing, but I am recovering from systemic stress and adrenal burnout, so I have to pace myself. Might make it out for a few walks though, especially when my family comes to visit at Christmas! I find walking in the countryside boring, but I plan on exploring Zurich like a tourist at least once a week, starting next week!
Oh, and playing Just Dance with my teen once a week. That all counts, right?
Looks like a great workout!
ReplyDeleteMelanie @ meandmr.com
oh that yoga 30 day challenge sounds interesting! i love yoga and really find it helps me manage stress in every day life. i need to get back into it, so maybe i'll take up that yoga challenge with you
ReplyDeletei hope you had a magnificent, magical thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteWow! Good luck with running the triple crown! I've only just started running, I wasn't a massive fan in the beginning but who likes hard work?! However after pushing thru, there are now days I look forward to getting out for a gamble around. I never thought I would think like that at the start! x
ReplyDeleteLoving this inspirational post! I'm actually really into yoga, and need more motivation to get into running. Good luck on Tues! :)

Ahhhh I thought this linkup was next week for some reason-- clearly I'm all messed up on my blogging days! I love that you're working towards something that works for your schedule without too much pressure. I think sometimes I set my goals too high and then when they become (literally) unattainable I give up. I'm trying to incorporate yoga/pilates into my routine while I figure out what I'm doing as far as running goes & I totally know what you mean about blogging about things to help you stay accountable.
ReplyDeleteLove your running goals!!!
ReplyDeleteI so agree with you in that you shouldn't hate your workouts - that just makes it so much harder!!!
Good luck on the weekly runs, strength training and yoga - I have 100% confidence in you!!!
I do the same thing! Make plans to achieve goals and then life changes that. I am forcing myself into doing a lot more lately so that I will 'want' to do it or at least it will become a habit.
