Moving on.
I have worn glasses for over 6 years now, mainly for reading and when I'm on the computer for long periods of time. Trouble is, my eyes are almost perfect except when I'm reading or on the computer, so it's really hard for me to get glasses that actually help when I read but don't hinder my normal vision.
I bought my original pair based purely on looks and they are quite annoying - because they are so small, the frame makes it hard to see anything that's not right in front of me. Kind of like how you can't see everything in a car when you're reversing or whatever - because the car is in the way. Does that make sense? Anyway. So if I am wearing glasses and someone in front of me talks to me, I have to move the glasses in order to see properly.
It gets super annoying during the day, every time I look away from the computer or I get up to get some water or anything, I have to move my glasses or take them off.
And because the computer is further away than a book, my glasses don't help as much as they should. I don't know how to explain to an eye doctor that although I can see perfectly, the words get blurry after a short time. I'm not sure if I am making any sense.
So I started searching for some new glasses. I was a bit embarrassed but I kinda wanted the bigger ones - you know, the ones that scream hipster? They just seemed so smart, the frame was above my eyes so it wouldn't hinder my vision - kind of like sunglasses, you wouldn't wear thin silly sunglasses would you? Anywho, I stumbled across Firmoo after seeing them on Camp Patton & Frikken Duckie. They also make sunglasses, but because I was in the market for some actual glasses, that's what I decided to get. But then I forgot about them, as you do.
The other day I was going through my junk folder and saw an email from Firmoo - um, what are the odds? They wanted to send me a pair. Don't mind if I do, thank you very much. You can even get free glasses - just need to pay for the lenses and shipping.
The glasses arrived quick smart with a cute little map themed case that just happens to have Australia on it (!!). I was super excited and tried them on immediately. Unfortunately, they are perfect for reading but not perfect for all day at work where the computer is an arms length away, so I am still searching.
I'm certain the reason they aren't perfect is because I used my old prescription details, and that was from many moons ago, so I need to get a new prescription to match my new old lady eyes. I can't go back to my original eye doctor because he's, well, in Sydney. I don't particularly like going to new doctors but I don't think I have much of a choice. My head starts hurting after squinting to read blurry words all day.
So.. be honest.. do I look like a hipster? Or like I'm trying too hard?
WHAT how did that copy of P&P get in this post? |
Do you wear glasses? How do I get my eyes checked in this country? Help.
glasses - check, tartan scarf - check, well-read copy of pride and prejudice - check. Yes I think you have the hipster blogger look pretty down! Nothing wrong with that though, they suit you :) Glasses are cool!
ReplyDeleteYour glasses look so great on you! So awesome they were sent to you too! I went to an optometrist when I was in America and it worked out well, even if I did feel strange not going to my optom in Brisbane!
ReplyDeleteI don't wear glasses but I've always wanted to. Is that weird? When I was little I got a pair prescribed and my dad kept insisting I didn't need them. I feel like they make me feel smarter or something. I'm not sure if they make you look hipster but they def look great on you!
ReplyDeleteI really like those! I'm a fan of glasses but then again I'm blind without them ha!
ReplyDeletewearing some from them right now!
ReplyDeleteI'm digging the hipster look! We're actually posting a Firmoo review tomorrow, so we can all be blogger hipsters together :)
ReplyDeleteYou look so cute as a hipster! :) And to get your eyes checked, just make an appointment with an eye doctor (ophthalmologist). I need to get my prescription updated too!
ReplyDeleteLove these specs on you! You are rocking them!
ReplyDeleteI think they make you look very hip! I should be using my reading glasses but I always forget. My eyes tend to get strained from all the reading. Oops.
ReplyDelete1) you look adorbs.
ReplyDelete2) just make an appt with an eye doctor. not sure how it works in 'murica, but in canada, we're covered for eye exams every 2yrs. your work insurance may cover you for that eye exam.
3) i'm supposed to wear glasses (i['m near-sighted) but i don't and guess what? my eye sight actually improved!! magic.
CUTE! i love those glasses on you! xo jillian - cornflake dreams
ReplyDeleteYou look so freaking adorable in those glasses! I love them!

You look cute! Love that you're posing with your lovey book.
ReplyDeleteFirst things first - the teacher from Matilda was my favorite!! I love the glasses you picked - I think they suit you perfectly!
ReplyDeleteMatilda!! Yes!!! haha but no you look fabulous! I love them actually! (and of course the book prop helps- none other than P&P I see) :) :) xoxo
ReplyDeleteYou look super cute in those glasses and not like you are trying too hard to be hipster. Which, in my opinion, is how most people with "hipster" glasses look.
ReplyDeleteI do wear glasses. I have tried contacts and I just cannot handle touching my eyeball. It literally takes me 30+ minutes to put in contacts. So, until I can afford Lasik, glasses it is.
I HATE going to new doctors as well. I, honestly, just go to my WalMart's eye center. It's easy, convenient, and cheaper than most eye places. When I lived in Chicago I went to an America's Best Eyecenter. I think those are all over the country and they were super helpful as well.
I think they look great! I am thankful that I do not need glasses because I look really stupid even with just sunglasses on.
ReplyDeleteI just got my glasses from these guys!! :) I love them so much, and such a great price :)

CUTE!! I've been a glasses girl for ages! Every time I get a check up, the eye doctor asks if I would consider contacts, then chuckles and says, "Oh yeah. You're a glasses girl. I respect that." Welcome to the big o' frames club! ♥
ReplyDeleteSuper cute! I can't wait to get my pair too. A prescription update is so long overdue, I haven't even worn my reading glasses since I graduated college 3.5 years ago, so I'm going to get an exam next week and then it's four eyes for me
ReplyDeleteI think they look adorable on you! Firmoo contacted me too and I am anxiously awaiting my first pair. I'm super excited!
ReplyDeleteembrace your inner hipster! and bigger lenses are totally practical. I appreciate your eye struggle because I really only need my glasses when i'm driving or to see things that are far away, so when i have to take them off to look at the computer which is annoying because i have to reference charts that are posted on my office wall but then switch back to my comp screen. makes me feel old having to squint!
ReplyDeleteThey are so cute on you!! I have tried frames like these, and my face is so small that only a handful of glasses look anywhere near decent on me - so these were a no go...but they look great on you! :)
ReplyDeleteI love them! They are so cute on you! I wear my contacts everyday... I am actually legally blind without them. I should really give them a break and wear my glasses sometimes! xo
ReplyDeleteYou are the most adorable hipster out there!
ReplyDeleteThey look so cute!!! And I know I'm totally behind the game, but love the new blog layout! Xo
ReplyDeleteThose look great on you, so cute! I am supposed to be getting some from Firmoo too, although mine aren't prescription. I'm excited to try them, I hope I look as cute as you do! :)
ReplyDeleteYou are rocking them dear!
ReplyDeleteI have need glasses for the majority of my life. If you have a Costco membership I would recommend just going there for a checkup. It's so much cheaper than an eye doctor practicing elsewhere. Their frames are also really affordable.
ReplyDeleteYou definitely do NOT look like you are trying too hard. I actually love them on you! You look really cute and let's be honest... you look cool too.
ReplyDeleteYou look so adorable! I love the glasses you chose. I used to wear "magnifying" glasses in high school to try and be cool. I ended up with a horrible headache and only lasted as a glasses wearer for a day hah. Rock it, lady!
ReplyDeleteYou are totally rocking those glasses my friend! Love them!!! I need to be a big girl and go back to the eye doctor for contacts. Because I am an hold hag that needs something ALL of the time now :( And I get annoyed with my frames, or spots on my lenses, or switching between regular and sunglasses. Getting old sucks!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, they look SO cute on you!! Also love the case you got! :)
ReplyDeleteAhhhh oh my goodness!!! I absolutely adore your glasses and they look so good on you!!
ReplyDeleteI wear reading glasses, too. I had a moment a few weeks ago when I realized wearing them felt better than not wearing them. I'm an old lady. #noshame
ReplyDeleteI think the ones you chose look great on you. You absolutely can pull them off.
I love those glasses - they are totally suited to you!!
ReplyDeleteI need glasses for reading but haven't caved in yet - I'm trying to pretend that I'm not getting old!!!
ohhh hey hipster!!
ReplyDeleteI called my insurance company and said "I need glasses who can I see" and they gave me a list of doctors they would pay for!
Kristen! You look sooo cute! You can definitely pull these off. I have a pair of Firmoo sunglasses on the way to me and now I can't wait to get them!
ReplyDeleteI just told someone that same thing - I wear glasses at the end of my nose 90% of the day because I need them only to read & for computer work... but I can see to drive or anything else perfectly fine. I feel like a spinster wearing them on the end of my nose.
ReplyDeleteI think you look great in those glasses! I've been wearing my glasses more often because contacts can get annoying. I really do need a new pair though so I'll look into those! :)
ReplyDeleteI love your new glasses! I have a pair that I love on my face but hate to wear. They look great but whenever I look down they fall right off. I am a contacts girl.
ReplyDeleteThey look great on you!! I got some Firmoo glasses about a year ago to review but they weren't as nice.
ReplyDeleteOmg omg you're too cute in your new glasses! Definitely love them on you! I actually just got an email from them but don't wear glasses so, is it weird to get ones with no perscription haha Also I don't know how I feel about ordering some without ever trying them on because there would be a 99.99999% chance I will look like a huge dork in them! Boo! But you look so cute!!

Those look great on you!!
ReplyDeletelmao!!! I TOTALLY get the "car is in the way" reference. I've literally told my husband that and he just thinks I'm insane.
ReplyDeleteYes, I totally think you pull the hipster vibe off! I wear eye glasses and in lieu of going to the dr have been wearing my husband's Rx for over 3 years. I recently went to the eye doctor and whaddya know, no more headaches AND I can see the street signs when I drive. Just call a random place and get penciled in girlfriend!
You look adorable!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOVE you in glasses!
ReplyDeleteCute! I love the glasses!!!
ReplyDeleteMelanie @ meandmr.com
I beyond-adore this look on you - well done my friend!! :)
ReplyDeleteThese are absolutely adorable on you! Not super hipster, just super cute!
ReplyDeleteOk, I didn't read the other comments but yes, those are hipster glasses but WEAR THEM ANYWAY because they look soooo cute on you. And you need to get your RX checked every year, no matter the country. You can do this. :) I do wear glasses and have like 5 pairs from Firmoo. (2 regular, 3 sunglasses....I wear the sunglasses way more). They are my fave online glasses retailer, and they didn't even give me free glasses to say that!
ReplyDeleteI love them, they look super cute on you! Good luck on your prescription/glasses hunt. I get anxiety going to new doctors etc. but it'll be worth it :)
ReplyDeleteI think they look so great on you! I don't look good in big glasses but I like them on everyone else! :)
ReplyDeletethese look so cute on you! i don't think you look like a hipster at all ;)
