Here's what the 'guest' room looked like when we first saw it.
And this is what it looks like now. We did have friends stay with us back in May, and I swear I took a photo with the bed that we borrowed from my mother in law, but I guess not. This is where I do my workouts & yoga, and obviously we hope to buy a bed one day but there always seems to be something more important to buy. We don't have a lot of people stay over, anyway. The idea is that we are going to buy ourselves a new, adult, big people size Queen bed, and put the full bed in the 'guest room'. It's a really good size room, too bad about the puke coloured walls.
This is what the 'office' looked like when we first saw it.
And this is what it looked like from when we moved in (December) till about August.
Ok, slight exaggeration. That photo was taken when we were re-doing the floors, hence the tv and whatnot. However, even after that this was our 'junk' room for so long, filled with crap we never should have even packed. This is why you should declutter when you move, not just throw everything in boxes because you are really over packing. We eventually cleaned it out and got rid of the dresser turned tv stand we hadn't used since the apartment. And here's what it looks like now:
Yeah we have a faux 'window seat' for the kitties. They love it.
This is our old bookcase, and it holds most of KC's other books that aren't special enough for the living room.
This is our old kitchen table and it's where I do all my million crafts, you know.
Here's what the hall bath looked like when we first saw it:
And here's what it looks like now; very basic but works for now.
I can definitely see that these rooms will get the least attention in the months / years to come. I have big plans, but there is always something else, like travel, or bills to pay.
But clearly I need some help, so hit me with your recommendations!

I love home improvement projects! There are so many ideas and so many things that I want to do at our house too, but I have to remind myself to be patient. Like you said, things always come up. The house will always be there, and no one ever said it needed to be perfect. There are better ways to spend the weekends other than painting, sanding, and cleaning. Like you said...traveling!!!
ReplyDeleteLove your place!!!
That "window seat" is TOO funny. I actually laughed out loud. Especially because your cat looks like it's saying, "Yo...you're ruining my 'me time' here. Get lost." Love it. I hope you're able to get a new bed soon!

haha, I saw the first picture with the chairs and was like "hmm, that looks a bit odd" but then it all made sense when I saw the kitties! how clever
ReplyDeleteMy flat is in desperate need of a declutter. We just have too much stuff! In my head I am all pepped to get started but when I actually get home after work I just don't seem to have the energy! Must. do. Better!

I think you should paint the walls in the guest-room and that will breathe some new life into it. Also, we definitely have a shelf for books that aren't special enough for the living room!
ReplyDeleteI had that exact same table!!! I really miss mine. I wish I could find another :(
ReplyDeleteHow cute is that window seat?! I say paint the walls in the guest room and maybe get a futon in there in the mean time. You can find them super cheap at IKEA or Wal-Mart... that way there is something in there in case guests need to sleep over!
ReplyDeleteLove that cute little kitty window seat! :) We have a junk room too and it is horrible. Definitely get yourself a grown up bed! We have a King and it is glorious.
ReplyDeleteI think it looks pretty good. I've lived in my house for 3.5 years and I have not changed a thing. I am actually trying to sell it. The layout is terrible for me and I didn't think about it at the time.
ReplyDeleteI definitely know what it means to decorate on a budget and do things a little at a time. For the guest room, would a futon work for y'all? I know you can find ones that are inexpensive (even from WalMart) and while they are not the most comfortable things to sleep on, for a weekend it's not that bad and better than an air mattress. And for the office, I think you could paint your old table and recover the seat cushions. You could even paint the bookshelf a fun color too.
ReplyDeleteWhat great spaces! I love that you made that little window seat for the cats! We keep saying the same thing about eventually moving our bedroom furniture into the guest room and getting new things for us... maybe one day! haha
ReplyDeleteGood idea to buy yourself a new bed and put your current one in the guest bedroom. I'd find it tough to justify buying a new bed for a guest room too lol Unless I could afford it but you're right, there are other things that always seem to come up and require money, etc. :) Aww love the faux window seat for the kitties :) The cluttered pic of the office looks like our second room right now! I triiiieed to tell Joey not to bring some stuff to his parents place that we don't need or throw things out and somehow he didn't do that at all. Our garage is also a disaster haha. We definitely need to go through these areas and organize (get rid of) some things. ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm loving the faux window seat for the kitties - that's so cute!! I'm so jealous of all the space you guys have!! I think it's a great thing to move what was once your bedroom furniture into the spare room!! Such a smart move!!
ReplyDeleteI love the window seat for the kitties!
ReplyDeleteThat window seat for the kitties seriously made me giggle!

Aw a sunbathing window seat for the kitties :)
ReplyDeleteGreat improvisation with the window seat;) Thank you for sharing photos of your home with us!
ReplyDeleteAfter four years, our junk room is still a junk room. Oops! Your guest room is huge, by the way!
ReplyDeleteCheapest and easiest upgrade is always paint!
ReplyDeletea fresh coat of paint works wonders. unfortunately, i'm no help since i have zero creativity - my husband did all the decorating in this house! if it were up to me, i'd have screaming white walls and builder lights still in the walls !!!
ReplyDeleteLove the virtual tour! At least you've painted the rooms. Mine are still the same blah neutral from when we moved in 4 years ago.
ReplyDeleteAwww I love your little window seat for the kitties. That's adorable! My kitty would have loved that
ReplyDeleteI am sitting here drooling over all your space. The room where you can do yoga? I have to push all of Marks crap out of the way to clear some space at his house to work out. You have such a great blank canvas to work with!
ReplyDeleteYour kitties are happy! :)
ReplyDeleteI spy Belle on your shelf!!! This is another reason why I think you are awesome :)
love the colors!!
ReplyDeletePaint makes such a difference. I think taking your time is the best thing to do, i know I decorated everything at once and now 4-5 years later I want to change everything.
ReplyDeleteIt just makes sense that you spend the money where you need it most, so don't beat yourself up over the less-lived-in rooms! It's all a process. Best that you spend your time, energy, and hard-earned money on the spaces that matter most to your daily lives and that you need to be most functional!
ReplyDeleteSo smart about the kitty seat! Love the cabinet over your toilet; did you buy/install?
ReplyDeleteThe faux window seat is amazing :)
ReplyDeleteLove that color in the spare room! Ya out office still looks like a junk room and we have been there for two years haha but there's no where else to put junk! I have way to many holiday decorations hahaa! One day we will finish that room!
