Here's what it looked like when we first saw it.
Super cute, right? Here's what it looked like when we moved our stuff in. Please excuse all the crap, I did say it wasn't pinteresty.
Ok. Then we ripped the carpet up, painted, KC put in laminate flooring and new baseboard thingys, I ripped the 'mantel' off the wall and almost decapitated my husband, you know, all in a day's work.
Ta-da!
Before and after, because why not.
I know, it's not crazy different and awesome but we love it.
But that was several months ago, so here's what it looks like today:
The 'gallery wall' is definitely not finished, I'm just waiting for the right pieces.
I have a Gallifrey poster that I am going to put above these frames, once I find a frame.
So, yeah, no mantel and there is a chair in front of the fireplace. Not the best solution, but it'll do until we can get a sectional. And yes, that TV stand. I can't. We used to have a dresser turned tv stand and I loved the height and that it was white, but didn't love it completely, and mum got this one for us for christmas last year, and I thought I would be ok with it, but yeah no. I have big dreams for the replacement.
My best friend painted this as a wedding gift for us.
And here is the fancy hallway as well:
I'm not a huge fan of the layout of these frames, but I put them up in a rush and haven't touched them since, but I'm sure I'll change them because they just don't look right.
I
So, this is a 'during'. We aren't in the after stage yet, not by a long shot. But are you ever really done?
Clearly I need some help in getting to the 'after stage' for the whole house, so while I am posting these room tours, I'd love for you to throw some recommendations at me, help me out! I'm looking at you Nadine nudge nudge wink wink.

Hey! :) I have nominated you for the Liebster Award! Go check it out!

If you do partake, make sure to post the link to your entry in my comment section. I would love to read your post! xx
I don't think we are ever fully done. Once I am happy I start on another room and then end up coming back to a room 3-4 years later. Love the flooring! Doing a custom mantle is a great idea!
ReplyDeleteDamn people that stage houses! They get us all excited for the possibilities and then we bring our own stuff in and it never looks the same! On another note, I love how your kitties are randomly in the pictures.
ReplyDeleteBest place to buy a sectional is at IKEA. Not expensive, plus everything is modular so you can make it the exact size/shape you need for your room! I'm so in love with ours, but if we move and need something different, we can make this one just what we need! :)
ReplyDeleteI love the floors and what y'all are doing..can't wait to see what else you do to it. I'm sure it'll be fabulous.
ReplyDeleteHouse tours are so fun! I love your floors. I think all houses are a work in progress when it comes to decorating.
ReplyDeleteFun! Love house tours. I'd say it's a big improvement from what it was! At least you don't have red couches. haha. I think Ana White usually has lots of simple building plans on her website. You might find a plan for building a mantle there. Can't wait to see the after!
ReplyDeleteLOVE those new floors! So much prettier than the carpet! And love the paint you guys chose too! Your living room is so cute! :)

Even though you didn't majorly renovate it, it's still a HUGE upgrade from the before! Seriously my eyes hurt from that yellow walls + bright red chairs combo. I think what you've done so far looks great! Love the paint color and the floors are amazing, so impressed that you did that yourselves!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it amazing what getting rid of carpet does?!?!? I'm not a fan of carpet in any room but a bedroom. Your hubs did a great job!
ReplyDeleteWOW! Everything looks amazing!! I love your gallery wall, it's so pretty and I love the unique pieces! Well done, lady!
ReplyDeleteGreat job! Loving your entryway!
ReplyDeleteLoooove your dark floors and grey paint! I had a wall like that in my old house (high ceiling, huge wall) and it was so hard to decorate. Have you considered mounting your TV and making a gallery wall around it? Then you can put whatever furniture you want underneath without having to put holes in it for wires to make it a TV stand. And your cats are so lucky to have that awesome tower!
ReplyDeleteI love the entryway and how you styled the table!!! The painting of the Sydney Opera House is gorgeous!! Thanks for letting us take a peek into your house!!
ReplyDeletea sectional would be perfect in there :)

ReplyDeleteI love the gallery wall! So pretty. The yellow accents are great too...especially that adorable yellow lamp! :)
ReplyDeleteI love your floors! Wood or laminate looks SO good in a living room, that's what we did to ours too! I love your entryway table and gallery wall, and especially the kitty sitting on the bottom! ;) Everything looks great, and no I don't think we are ever "done" with our homes, it's a constant work in progress!
ReplyDeleteOh, I love all of the changes you did- I liked the first wall color but then when I saw the one you painted, it really does brighten the space up a little bit more. And ahhh your bookshelves <3 Love all of your photos and that painting!
ReplyDeleteThe floors look so good! I can't wait to do the same in one of our rooms (i.e. the only one with carpet and it's BLACK!).
ReplyDeleteLove the addition of the floors- changed the entire space! The gallery wall and pictures are def my fav!!
ReplyDeleteHUGE transformation! I love the wall with the photos. Looks like your kitty has already found his preferred spot!

Your living room looks great with the laminate flooring! Also, I'm digging all the cat cameos in the photos, haha. Does it say "crazy cat lady" that my eye was automatically drawn to the furry face (or tail, as the case may be) in each photo?

Ahh! The ceramic owls. That gold lampshade! Those square picture collages! Want to come decorate my place?? Also, just fully noticed and appreciated your favicon. LOVE IT. ♥

ReplyDeleteI love house tours! You hardwood floor is absolutely beautiful! I would love to start redoing some things in our house but we have to save a little bit first.
ReplyDeleteI loooove the floor, that looks amazing!!! I can't wait until we do that too. I really wanted hard wood right off the bat but the builders were going to charge us like $8000 for the main room and hallway. So we had to say no way and eventually will do it ourselves for half the price. Also loving that yellow & white lamp! :)
ReplyDeleteIt LOOKS amazing! LOVE LOVE the Gallery Wall! Great idea!
ReplyDeleteI love the floors and the wall color!!! So fabulous! I love the gallery wall as well. I have been trying to collect things for mine forever and I just need to get that finished!!! Also, does the cat come included? Haha!
ReplyDeleteI love the progress! Those white bookshelves are gorgeous. Where are they from? If you saw my living room you may just gasp for dear life.. My son has overtaken the entire thing! lol
ReplyDeleteThat new flooring is beautiful! amazing what new floors do for a house. Love those cute little white owls on your table!
ReplyDeleteWow - the flooring looks amazing! I'm so sick of our carpet upstairs in our house; want to come help us lay something new? I'll pay in wine and cheese :) Oh, and I'll find GOOD GF crackers!
ReplyDeleteI think it looks amazing girl! I love the hardwood floors and wall colors. I'd say it's very Pinterest-y with that gallery wall. (I didn't even know that had a word for it lol)
ReplyDeleteThe new floors are amazing and I really like that wall color! No definitely not ever done... maybe you can knock a few things off your "to buy" list on Black Friday?! That's when we are going to try and get a new couch!
ReplyDeleteI love the dark wood floors... I want to rip up all carpet in my house & get floors like that!!!!
ReplyDeleteMy house is constantly a work in progress.
What a cozy home you have!!!
Beautiful floors, lady!
ReplyDeleteI love it, it looks fantastic! I am a big fan of dark floors so that is my fave :)
ReplyDeleteI think you made some great adjustments! Definitely a bookcase improvement and the flooring looks so fancy. I think you're right though, for some people there's really no "done." I can never leave my furniture/accents in one position for too long without getting bored :)
ReplyDeleteHaha, okay so I didn't read the post correctly and at first I thought the first few pictures (red couches) were of "today" and I was going to try to figure out how to nicely comment on it :) But, luckily for me, you have great taste and the living room looks awesome! It's crazy what new floors will do! And you have done a really good job at arranging things on the wall too!
ReplyDeleteI love the flooring you put down and your entry table area - so cute!!!
ReplyDeletei love your floors!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteLove the transition! Looks great! You could really do something awesome with that fireplace! Like stone up the whole wall or something and then put up a mantel to break it up?! That would look neat! I love the gallery wall too! And the kitty on the table! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great improvement! I just love the flooring.
ReplyDeleteI always do a double take when I see that cat, looks so much like mine. He likes to lie on the shelf of our console table too.
Wow! You guys made a HUGE difference... I looove the after! Especially the floors and gallery wall!
ReplyDeleteWow---that looks AMAZING! Those floors--great choice!!!
ReplyDeletewow that looks SO good!! crazy what a few changes can do!!
ReplyDeleteLove your new floors, they look great, it really updates it! You have made great progress!! I'm not great help in the interior design department, sorry :) Best of luck in your next projects!

I loooove the floor and wall color-it turned out amazing!
ReplyDeleteThe floors look great and the wall color is waaaay better than that yellow. The yellow looked nice with the red couches but I'm still not a huge fan of that shade of yellow. What great changes you have made! You are inspiring me to go change my dang house!
ReplyDeleteI change my house all the time. I just changed all the wall art around. So I think we're all always in a during!
ReplyDeleteI love your wood floors! I can't wait to get rid of the ugly carpet in my living room and hallway. It sure changes the look of the whole area!!
ReplyDeletejust got caught up on this week's posts! can't wait to see how it all comes together!
ReplyDeleteI'm playing catch up so I'm going in reverse on these posts, but I'm loving this little house tour and I just love your house! Love the paint color on the gallery wall and I love that it looks like a "normal people live here" house. I would be comfortable there, so make room if I'm in town. LOL.
ReplyDeleteGirl, that is a huge difference! I love the color of the walls with the dark floor and so glad you pulled that mantel off! It did not look right! You could do a really big clock above the fireplace or you could mount your TV there and then you wouldn't have to worry about a new stand.
ReplyDeleteWe were about to drag the old recliner to a new location in the house when we noticed it actually still fit. And this new-old me said, "Wow, we could all sit on a recliner if we keep this beat-up old best recliners in the room!". Yes, that actually came out of my mouth. Again, the horror!
ReplyDeleteNice Blog for re finishing of furniture. If you favor to have both functional and pretty Teak outdoor furniture, then go for wrought iron furniture. Teak furniture can make your patio area look fashionable and lively. best recliner for back pain
